He is known for his work developing the Bohr model of the atom, which depicted the atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that travel in fixed, circular orbits. Bohr won a Nobel Prize for his research using experiments with hydrogen atoms to discover that electrons can only occupy specific allowed orbits and jump between these orbits by absorbing or emitting packets of electromagnetic radiation. His work laid the foundation for later atomic shell models and was influential in the development of quantum mechanics.

2. Who is Niels Bohr?
Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen on October 7, 1885. His father
was a physiologist. He took his Master’s degree in Physics in 1909.
He got his Doctor’s degree in 1911. Bohr won a gold medal from his
surface tension by means of oscillating fluid jets. More research was
made on the constitution of the atomic nuclei. A liquid drop would be
a great picture of the nucleus of an atom. This is called the liquid
droplet theory.

He studied hydrogen atoms because they only have 1 electron. He
experimented with adding electric energy to hydrogen and studying
what happened. His experiments lead to a new atomic model.
