The fourth grade class will learn about eight American holidays including Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Independence Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. The teacher will explain why and how each holiday is celebrated and have the students make crafts and keep journals about their celebrations. By the end of the year, the students will be able to accurately describe the traditions and origins of each holiday.

ASSURE Method Assignment
The class of fourth graders will explain how and why holidays are spent the way they are
in America among most families. These holidays include: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day,
Easter, Independence Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. I will
teach them why we celebrate these holidays, how they got started, and what makes them
significant. Using calendars to show them when these holidays occur, and making crafts
representing the upcoming holiday, and having them keep journals telling how they celebrated
their holiday to keep all of the kids interested and involved. By the end of the year the children
will tell a little bit about each holiday tradition, how it got started, and why we celebrate that
certain day with 100% accuracy.
