African American gospel music aims to capture a pure and strong spirit of worship through live audience-oriented performances, some of whose melodies went on to influence R&B and soul music. Live gospel music recordings seek to recreate the authentic experience of communal worship in places like church by encouraging serious and heartfelt praise of God from musicians, as if always in His presence, important for conveying the unplanned and engaging nature of live audience interactions that are key to differentiating gospel recordings from other genres.

As the world of online music grows, the playlist is once again becoming a central tool to help listeners successfully experience music. Further, the playlist is increasingly a vehicle for recommendation and discovery of new or unknown music. More and more, commercial music services such as Pandora, Last.fm, iTunes and Spotify rely on the playlist to improve the listening experience. In this tutorial we look at the state of the art in playlisting. We present a brief history of the playlist, provide an overview of the different types of playlists and take an in-depth look at the state-of-the-art in automatic playlist generation including commercial and academic systems. We explore methods of evaluating playlists and ways that MIR techniques can be used to improve playlists. Our tutorial concludes with a discussion of what the future may hold for playlists and playlist generation/construction.

We have created a presentation for our audience research on the band Brand New. We have looked into the audience and why they listen to this music and what characteristics they have. Which can help us when we come to film our final piece.
This presentation, entitled "Oh What Songs of the Heart: Experiencing the Power of Music in our Everyday Lives" was presented by Dr. Brian Ebie and Laura Hoopes Ebie for the Singles Conference at in Kirtland, Ohio for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kirtland Stake. In the presentation, the authors discussed the power of music to influence emotions and even cognitive development. Interspersing the presentation with scriptural and scientific references, as well as quotes from famous philosophers and LDS church leaders, the presentation offers both scientific and anecdotal approaches to the use of music in our every-day lives.
The Negro spiritual, a uniquely American art form, is credited by some cultural commentators for the survival of African American people through slavery, Jim Crow, racism and the civil rights struggle. It speaks poignantly of a people’s belief in God’s ability to protect them and propel them into a better future. Often, against all odds, the musical idiom known as the African American spiritual, gave those who struggled against injustice the faith and strength to keep moving forward.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
