Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
1.4 modern child centered education - mahatma gandhi-2.pptx
Assignment 1 (eportfolio)
1. Pre-writing
Sketch is a hasty or undetailed drawing or painting often made as a preliminary
study. It also can define as a brief general account, presentation, or an outline.
Sketch is generally not a final drawing but rather an essential part in the design
process. It can help me to chronicle impression and help me become more creative.
This essay is about a process of sketch the kitchen utensil that used to make a
cereal butter prawn.
Without any kitchen utensil, even if you have all of the ingredients, you also cannot
accomplish the dish. The materials that I chosen to cook the cereal butter prawn was
the wok, spatula, big bowl and scissors. My wok looks like a smile. My wok is made
by low density material, so that it was very lighter and it made me more easier to
handle and adjust it when I am cooking. It will produce a loud and clear sound when I
knocked it. The spatula is just like a broom. It does not means that it can sweep the
floor, this is beause it has the same leverage principle with the broom. It is very light
and it helps me becomes more neater when I am cooking. It has a silvery sound
when it hits another things. Scissors are hand-operated shearing tools. The wok is a
versatile round-bottomed cooking vessel. It can use in a range of different Chinese
cooking techniques, including stir-fry, steam, deep-fry, make soup, smoke and roast.
Wok cooking is done with a long handle called spatula. Spatula is used to blend, mix
and scrape. The rubber or silicon spatula is used to blend or scrape the food from
the bowl while the silicon, metal or plastic spatula is used to turners or flippers. We
usually use the scissors to cut the paper or cloth, open a package or do some art
work. The big bowl is used to store the food or some ingredients. The main
advantage of wok beyond its constructed material is its curved concave shape.
Curved sides allows a person to cook without having to “chase the food around the
pan” since bite-sized or finely chopped stir-fry ingredients usually tumble back to the
centre of the wok when agitated. The ccurve provides a larger usable cooking
surface versus western-styled pots and pans, which typically have vertical edges.
This allows large pieces of food seared at the bottom of the wok to be pushed up the
gently sloped sides to continue cooking at a slower rate. The pointed bottom also
allows even small amount of oil to pool. The spatula allow cooks to wok with the food
without burning my hands because it is long and upper side of the spatula is made
by the low specific heat capacity material. Scissors can actually help me to cut some
food safer, faster and even neater than using a knife. The big bowl can help me to
toss the large amounts of ingredients.
The drawing tools that needed to complete a sketch are pencils, pens, white
coloured pencils and white charcoal pencils, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils,
pencil sharpener and erasers. I used soft lead pencil that was a 2B pencil to sketch,
it provided a bold look, but they smudge easy and dull quickly. So I drew the
guidelines with a H pencil. I was used the white coloured pencils and white charcoal
pencil to shade and produce a light effect.
2. Tone highlights a particular feature and expresses drama in a sketch. Tone
respond to a design problems thus it application renders a solution. Specifically, tone
is examined as a background layer, as a way to express hierarchy, and as a unifying
element. The tone application of a background layer focuses on shading the space
behind a subject, leaving the subject white or light shaded. Tone applied as a way to
express hierarchy focuses on shading a significant feature of a space, or a particular
object among other objects. Light direction refers to the location and angle of the
light source and light rays. The light source becomes a reference point that helps
illustrate light direction, light rays and gradient tones. The intensity of the sun, angle
of the sun’s rays and potential cloud covering determine the brightness and
sharpness of sunlight inside a structure. Besides that, light reflection refers to the
level of reflectivity of a surface. Reflectivity ranges from specular to diffuse. Metallic
surfaces, mirrors and even still water can provide a sharp specular reflection,
whereas non-reflective materials, such as drywall, concrete, or brick, reflect light
diffusely.
I used about two hours to finish the process of sketch. This is because I was not
good in sketching. I needed to refer the sketching book and tried again and again for
my sketch. I will do this process again in the future, so that my ability of sketch can
be improve.

4. Sketch of my selected kitchen tool
Sketch is a hasty or undetailed drawing or painting often made as a preliminary
study. It also can define as a brief general account, presentation, or an outline.
Sketch is generally not a final drawing but rather an essential part in the design
process. It can help me to chronicle impression and aid visual recollection or record
an emotion or a thought. This essay is about a process of sketch the kitchen utensil
that used to make a cereal butter prawn.
Without any kitchen utensil, even if you have all of the ingredients, you also cannot
accomplish the dish. The materials that I chosen to cook the cereal butter prawn was
the wok. My wok looks like a smile. It was 360mm in diameter and made by carbon
steel, so that it relatively light in weight and make me more easier to handle and
adjust it when I am cooking. It also provides quick heat conduction. It will produce a
loud and clear sound if I knocked it. The wok is a versatile round-bottomed cooking
vessel. It can use in a range of different Chinese cooking techniques, including stir-
fry, steam, deep-fry, make soup, smoke and roast. Wok cooking is done with a long
handle called spatula. The main advantage of wok beyond it constructed material is
it curved concave shape. The shape produces a small, hot area at the bottom which
allows some of the food to be seared by intense heat while using relatively little fuel.
The curve provides a larger usable cooking surface versus western-styled pots and
pans, which typically have vertical edges. The pointed bottom also allows even small
amounts of oil to pool. For instance, large food items can be shallow fried, while
5. finely chopped garlic, chili peppers, scallions, and ginger can be essentially deep-
fried in both cases with very small amount of cooking oil.
The drawing tools that needed to complete a sketch are pencils, pens, white
coloured pencils and white charcoal pencils, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils,
pencil sharpener and erasers. Pencils have the range from 9B to 9H. The colour
range goes from dark to light. The B pencils are dark and the H pencils are light.
Simply, the H means hard and B means black. H pencils, because they are hard,
leave less graphite on the paper, so are lighter. B pencils are softer, so leave more
graphite on the paper, and so are darker. HB is kind of in the middle, though for
drawing, its still reasonably hard. I used soft lead pencil that was a 2B pencil to
sketch, it provided a bold look, but they smudge easy and dull quickly, so I drew the
guidelines with a H pencil. I was used the white coloured pencils and white charcoal
pencil to shade and produce a light effect. I also used the eraser when I was did
some mistake on my sketch.
Light direction refers to the location and angle of the

surfaces, mirrors and even still water can provide a sharp specular reflection,
whereas non-reflective materials, such as drywall, concrete, or brick, reflect light

I used about two hours to finish the process of sketch. This is because sketching
and drawing are one of my weak point. I needed to refer the sketching book and do a
lot of research from the internet. After that, I tried again and again for my sketch. I
was tired but I had a sense of achievement when I was completed this process. I will
do this process again in the future, so that my ability of sketch can be improve.
