2. Steps Involved in Producing An Attractive Sketch
Drawing is a general term,whereas sketching is one of the technique inside
the category of drawing. Sketch is defined as a rapidly freehand drawing of a
rough draft that usually does not acts as a final work. The beauty of things and
simplicity can be conveyed through a simple black and white sketch.Sketching
can be one’s hobby as it is relaxing and entertaining as well as a part of artistic
development. A sketch contains few purposes which is recording what you have
seen,as a communication,an idea or a warm up for your end product. Architects
or designers depend on sketches during the process of designing. Sketches
plays an important role in the part of our thinking process and usually does not
act as an final product which is used during presentation. For architects,sketching
is all about communication by expressing what is in their minds to other people
such as colleagues or among themselves. How does a sketch attract people?
What should we do to produce an attractive sketch?
If you wish to bring out an attractive sketch,firstly you will have to gather the
right tools and materials that might be used during the process of sketching.
There are many type of stationeries sold everywhere in every book store such as
2B pencils, HB pencils and many more. The reason of variety of pencils is the
boost of the sketching skill is because each pencil carries it own specific function.
Different grading of pencils will result in different tone of sketching and different
texture of sketching. Hence, one should identify the function for each grade of

3. pencils and utilize it wisely. For example,H pencils are the hardest pencil used for
thin sketching while B pencils are the softest pencils usually used for shading.
Choosing the type of paper to sketch on is also an important step of
sketching.Using a fine art paper with a little bit of texture holds the pencil well
compared to regular printer paper and makes the best appearance.
Moreover,sit in a good position and get comfortable with the paper to let you
work much more longer. The next thing you should do after gathering the
materials you need is to do some warm up. To warm up, you can simply draw
any shapes like circles,rectangles or draw many straight lines until the lines look
straight.This is all to get the correct hand coordination. When you feel your hand
is not that shaky you can proceed to sketching by choosing a subject. It is easier
to sketch from a live image rather than waiting your an image to appear using
imagination.Your sketch can be anything. It can be a bottle which is placed in
front of you, buildings and many more. Before starting your work,study the object
and understand its shape. Every objects are made up of basic shapes.Observe it
from all angles and start sketching.Sketch is just a draft of an image.When you
sketch,try not to draw so heavily by using quick strokes and this allows us to
erase our mistakes easily.
Besides,good lighting is another step that really helps in making our
sketching to be more attractive than the others. Find the source of light and it will
also affect the effectiveness of tone shading. Furthermore,according to Oxford

one must know when to shade with a higher force and when to shade with a
lighter force to create a 3-dimensional effect of sketching or casting some
shadows to make the sketching master piece to look real. Lastly,after editing and
erasing the mistakes,to make your sketch looks more attractive,one should touch
up by highlighting and enhancing the outlines to make your sketch looks more
attractive. You can try using tracing pen,dark marker or dark pencils to enhance
the lines to make your sketch more outstanding and neat.
In a nutshell, these are the ways to produce a sketch which is attractive. If
you wish to sketch well,one must make sure to have all the equipments needed
before start sketching and learn from the basics. You will also need to practice
well, be observant and study the subject you wish to sketch. Sketching is
definitely not easy and most of the students have given up on it as it is a skill
which needs a lot of exercise. You might be unhappy for what you have sketched
or drawn after one year but never give up. Try to compare your current sketch
with what you drew one year ago and you will see some improvements. It’s a
hard work but keep practicing because in the end it’s worth doing so.
