This document describes an artificial immune system (AIS) used to detect abnormal network activity and provide computer security. The AIS monitors network traffic and classifies patterns from data packets as "self" (normal) or "non-self" (abnormal). Detectors in the form of interval constraints are used to detect non-self patterns. The AIS was tested on simulated TCP/IP traffic, and results showed the detection rate was highest when the number of normal activity patterns (self-clusters) was below 40 and the detector matching threshold was set to 2-3.
