Learning Environment With Art BY: COURTNEY EVANS
How should art be accommodated for infants,
toddlers, and children with special needs?
No glitter for infants and toddlers
For younger children between
12-24 months of age: some
materials that should be
available for them are large non-
toxic crayons, large paper with
varies of colors, non-toxic finger
paint and large non-toxic chalk
on a chalk board.
Because no work of art is ever
wrong, children with special
needs don’t have to worry their
art isn’t as good as others! For
example, a child with hearing
impaired can learn from
observing their teacher or other
children using the material. Also
communicate with the child
about their art using sign
language or lip reading.
What materials
should be available to
children to support
their learning and
development?
• You need 3-5 choices of materials from
each category
*some materials that should be available
for them are watercolor markers, tempera
paint(two kinds), paint tools, paper that
varies in size and color, easy to use blunt
scissors, play dough, self stamps, stickers
or tape and scrap paper.
