The state governor submits request for DSCA in writing to the office of the
Executive Secretary of the Department of Defense (DoD). (Department of Defense
Directive (DoDD) 3025.18, p. 3, 2010). After the request submission, it goes
through a screening and evaluating process. We must consider legality, potential
lethal force either by or against the DoD, and measure how much risk we are
assuming with accepting the mission. Estimating the cost on what it will take to
assist the state in need and whether accepting the mission is appropriate to the DoD
s interest to provide support or if it will take away from the DoD s abilities to
perform their mission are all factors in the evaluating process. Upon request
approval, the Secretary of Defense appoints a Federal Coordination Officer (FCO)
and establishes a Joint Field Office (JFO) to coordinate federal disaster response
and relief efforts. The JFO will work closely with the secretary of the State
Coordinating Officer. From there, DSCA activates and deploys within a matter of

On June 20, 2014, the Department obtained emergency custody through C P of
Ryan due to neglect by mother Heather Martin. Mother was arrested by Burlington
Police on 6/16/14 for larceny; shoplifting and three counts of receiving stolen
property. Heather was taken to at MCI Framingham. The family was placed in a
hotel through Department of Transitional Assistance. It was against the hotel policy
for children to be left in the hotel unsupervised, and Ryan and Bria were staying
alone in the room for five days. This was deemed concerning for the two children to

Exoskeletons and orthoses are defined as mechanical devices worn by an operator
and fitted closely to the body to work in concert with the operator s movements. The
term exoskeleton is used to describe a device that augments the wearers performance,
while the term orthosis is used to describe a device used to assist a person with limb
pathology. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to circumvent the limitations of
autonomous legged robots by adding a human operator to the system. The system is
designed in parallel with human limbs to augment human strength and endurance
during locomotion. The basic system design consists of two powered
anthropomorphic legs, a power unit, associated actuators, sensors, and a control unit.
When designing exoskeletons it is necessary to understand the biomechanics of
human walking. The human walking gait cycle is represented on a scale of 0% to
100% and includes several notable phases shown in Figure 1. The structure of a
human leg contains total of 7 Degrees of Freedom (DOF) with three rotational
DOFs located at the hip, one at the knee and three at the ankle. Degrees of Freedom

Many do not know that the IMA houses two different libraries. The Stout Reference
Library and the Horticultural Society Library provide numerous resources for their
visitors, which mainly consist of students, IMA Staff, docents, collectors, researchers
and even members of the community. The Stout Reference Library focuses on the
encyclopedia collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, while also providing
general information about art and art history of all periods. (Stout Reference
Library, 2017) The Horticultural Society Library houses more than 2,000 volumes,
including general reference books and books on landscaping, specific plant families
and horticulture. (Horticultural Society Library, 2017) I mention the libraries
because this semester, I am technically considered a library and archives intern at the
IMA. My mentor however is the archivist, Samantha Norling. She has done
impressive work at the IMA in such a short time. She jump started the Archives
online portal, which consists of thousands of digitized items from the archives. The
IMA received a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities
(NEH) (Documenting Modern Living, 2017), that allowed for 17,000 items from the

follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in
detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature
but when stripped down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have
something to share and have something in common amongst themselves despite
