The purpose of this experiment was to prepare isoamyl acetate from isoamyl alcohol
and glacial acetic acid by Fischer esterification.
Introduction Esters are derivatives of carboxylic acids. Instead of having the COOH

My emotional response to this picture was negative and worried. It made me think
about all the funerals I attended and it also made me think about how lonely it
would be to be buried under ground. Unfortunately in my life I have had to
experience many funerals. During a funeral normally people can look down and

A school s climate either positively or negatively affects teaching and learning within
the school. School administrators have the responsibility to ensure the school climate
supports learning. This responsibility can be met only when school leaders have an
accurate understanding of climate in the schools they serve. This causal comparative
study examines administrators and teachers perceptions of school climate among the
academic, social, affective and physical domains of school climate, using the revised
School Level Environment Questionnaire (R SLEQ). Data are examined using
multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to determine whether statistically
significant differences in climate perceptions exist between administrators and

Land without ice is a very difficult environment for polar bears. This was proven by
Canadian photographer Paul Nicklen and Sea Legacy filmmakers when they arrived
on Baffin Island in late summer. They came face to face with a shocking sight a
polar bear, starved and slowly dying.
We stood there crying filming with tears rolling down our cheeks, said Nicklen.
In the video, the polar bear was limping and hanging by a thread of life. The animal
had a thin and bony frame, covered with white fur, while its back legs were likely
suffering from muscle atrophy due to wasting. It rummaged a nearby trashcan used
by Inuit fishers seasonally, however, nothing was edible. The polar bear dejectedly
collapsed on the ground, deprived of food.
Nicklen thought of helping the bear but without a tranquilizer gun or 400 pounds of
seal meat, he could do nothing. Also, feeding polar bears in Canada is illegal.
Nicklen also considered not to prolong the agony of the poor animal, instead, he
recorded the bear s slow death from starvation.
When scientists say bears are going extinct, I want people to realize what it looks
like. Bears are going to starve to death. This is what a starving bear looks like,
Nicklen stressed out.
The heartbreaking sight of the starving and dying polar beat was a sign on how
deadly climate change to mankind and animals. According to climate scientists, the

1860s and 1870s would not have sided with the native population. They would have
had their stereotypes and preconceived notions about Indians. Nevertheless, this film
did bring to light how Native Americans were a well organized and advance group of
people who would be tragically exterminated in the future by the United States

Contrary to the popular belief that the middle class is a general term describing a
cohesive group of people who are neither rich nor poor, the classes in the middle
consist of three separate groups: the upper middle class, the lower middle class, and
the working class (Marger 112). Although these groups share many similarities, they

First, those in the upper middle class are usually salaried workers, have significant
autonomy and prestige, have higher levels of education, work with ideas rather
than performing physical labor, and are very active in politics, contributing money

of salaries and wages, have less autonomy and prestige than the upper middle class,
lack significant wealth, have lower levels of education, are generally routine
production workers, and while they are politically involved, their participation does

have the least wealth and education of all three groups, have limited prestige and
autonomy, are involved in manual and physical labor, are less politically active, and
often do not take satisfaction from their work (Marger 116 119).

On September 9th I attended my first SWIC Music Faculty Preview Recital at the
Schmidt Art Center. The venue for the afternoon recital was held in the gallery
room, a room set up for an audience of about 50 music majors. In the front of the hall
sat a white grand piano on parquet floors; the walls of the room were adorned with
art of varying mediums. Having mucked around on the piano as a child, I sat
enthusiastically as a musical amateur in great awe of anyone with talent of the
keyboard or gift of music of any kind.
The first two pieces in the program were by Austrian composer Franz Schubert 1797
1828. In 1808, through a competitive examination, the eleven year old Schubert
was accepted into the choir of the Imperial Court Chapel as well as the Royal
Seminary. He was a shy youth, and spent most of his spare time practicing and
composing alone. When Shubert was fifteen his voice changed and he left the choir
but continued to study at the seminary. As discussed in lecture, each period of
music has a chain reaction between artists who are affected by the events of their
environment. Post war 1950 s America had the progression of Jazz with artists such
