You Can Never Predict What Life Is Going At You
You can never predict what life is going to throw at you. Until I was about 9 years
old, I lived in Groves, Texas which was located by the Gulf of Mexico. Groves was
a small town, so small that I had to go to school in Port Arthur, the city right next
to Groves. I had a small house and a big backyard with lots of trees. My dad also
kept a small ship and a boat in our yard, and I always thought about what it might
be like to board the ship. My days would be spent playing with my little sister and
hanging out in the yard, exploring every inch of our lawn. One hot September day,
I was in my fourth grade class when kids were being checked out. My teacher
explained to those of us still in class that a hurricane seemed to be heading our way....
Traffic was terrible. It was more than terrible, we would only move what felt like an
inch at a time. People were running out of gas and there were no gas stations open for
miles. My dad kept the air conditioning off to preserve the battery or gas, and it was
blazing hot out. I remember being drenched in sweat, wondering where we were
going to end up. When it came time for me to sleep, the car was so packed I had to
move in awkward positions to get comfortable and use cardboard boxes as pillows.
We could not afford to pull over for potty breaks so my parents had my sister and I

Year round schooling is not recommended, in my eyes. I think this because all year
you sit at a desk and do work for 365 days. It s not fun, parents could not plan for

changed the opening into an attention getter suggested by the instructor. I also chose
the perspective of the main character to add more depth to the poem. I took the
dramatic tension and gave more life to that so I could tie it into the character s
perspective. I changed the ending to make it more effective for this poem using the
thirteen ways of looking at revision. For the revision of The Bra, I used the
suggestions of my peers. Several suggestions came up about the title so I changed it

rhythm of this poem to make it flow easier. I used the guidelines from thirteen
ways of looking at revisions. Now the poem has a solid, rhythmic pattern. For the

poem to make my voice more expressive and relatable to my life. I removed a few
lines so the poem could have a specific tone and rhythm for the reader. I looked at
the poetry website we had to use for a quiz. I was able to read various poems to get

Procedures
First research question interview. The interview for the first research question occurs
after the pre screening call, at a time set by the researcher and the participant. It will
start with an overview explaining the purpose of the research, affirming the time
commitment, answering questions the participants have, assuring the participants
that their input will be kept confidential and confirming to them that they can leave at
any point without repercussions.
The researcher and the participant will review and discuss the list, with the researcher
recording and taking notes. The approach will be collaborative and fluid. The
intention is to have the participant suggest changes to the list that they think could
aid in the research, while the interviewer affirms that all suggestions will be given
due consideration but ultimately may or may not be included, at the discretion of the
research team. At the end of the interview, the researcher will summarize the
suggested changes, gain confirmation, affirm confidentiality, thank the participants

Over the past month, we have been studying the concept of reading and writing in
different communities. To assess this, we have read two different texts. Richard
Rodriguez s the achievement of desire , from his autobiography Hunger of Memory ;
and Lucille McCarthy s A Stranger in Strange Lands: A College Student Writing
across the Curriculum from Research in the Teaching of English . Both answer key
questions regarding what it takes to become a great reader and writer, however,
from the reading that I have done, each one only answers one part of the question.
Rodriguez s main focus is in the aspect of reading, whereas McCarthy mainly
focuses on the writing portion. Both do a decent job of analyzing and putting forth
a view of how they believe a person can best perform in these environments. This
then allows us to use their concepts and create our own version, based on their
points of view. But why should we care? Most people at this level of academia will
have developed a system of writing that works for them, and will have a difficult
time breaking from it if they re process doesn t meet the criteria that Rodriguez, and

When we think about the most known spiritualities within the Christian tradition, it
is common to hear the Company of Jesus, or Jesuits, as one of relevance, and which

The term mysticism is a term that has had different connotations throughout history.
According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the term Mysticism comes
from the Greek word that means to conceal , therefore in early Christianity it was
used to refer to hidden allegorical interpretations of Scripture, for example to refer to
the mystery of Jesus in the Eucharist. Later, the term began to denote, mystical
theology, including direct experiences of the divine. This led philosophers to focus
then, on the aspect of mystical experiences .
But what is a mystical experience? Once again, the Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy, defines mystical experience as: A (purportedly) super sense perceptual
or sub sense perceptual experience granting acquaintance of realities or states of
affairs that are of a kind not accessible by way of sense perception, somatosensory
modalities, or standard introspection. Others define it simply as an experience of the
divine. On the other hand, St. John of the Cross describes the mystical experience,
when the soul is brought into a mystical state. He says, . . . when once the soul is
brought into this other state, it acts not at all with its faculties, . . . Then God
