Compare The Gambling Environment
When considering the proliferation of gambling advertising it is important to compare the gambling
environment established before deregulation and the extent to which it has changed post
deregulation. The problems affiliated with gambling are not a new phenomenon, as such
considerable research has been done to mitigate and control the derived negatives (Eadington,
2012). Applying age restrictions, promoting easily accessible helplines for those with a problem,
self exclusion programs and limiting access to gamblinghave met with success and led credence to
the belief that gambling is no longer a focus for criminal activity or a form of glamorous
extravagance (Delfabbro, 2011). However since the sudden deregulation of gambling, advertising

The Heart-warming Tale of Girls and Boys Town
Girls Boys Town is different!
The story of Girls and Boys Town is one of the most heart warming tales of human effort of the 20th
Century. It is a tale of faith, courage and sympathy one that enchanted the imagination of the world
and changed the way South Africa cares for challenged youth.
Founded by the late Bishop Reginald Orsmond in 1958 and based on the principles of Father
Flanagan s famous Girls Boys Town in Nebraska, USA, Girls Boys Town has granted thousands of
children of all races, genders, faith and languages a new beginning.
Most of them arrive here with broken dreams, sick at heart and in body too. Some have been
physically or sexually abused, forgotten or abandoned. Some come from broken homes, do badly
at school, have discipline issues, and lack social skills.
What makes them different ?
Girls and Boys Town is under the guidance of adults, the kids actually govern themselves, electing
their Mayor, Councillors and Managers who make the rules and see that they are kept. This
capitalises on the teenage desire to be admired and respected by their peers.
Our eight registered Children s Homes four large Youth Development Centres and four community
family homes offer residential care to children whose own families cannot cope and who don t do
well in foster care.
What are their objectives?
Girls and Boys Town, South Africa delivers national services that:

Should Scotland Become Independent
Scottish Independence Today, changes in the political map of the world are not a big deal. It
changes very often. And one of the possible changes becomes the attempt of Scotland to be
independent. A national referendum was held in Scotland on 18 September 2014, which shook the
country to its core (Government UK). Voters had to answer only one question: Should Scotlandbe an
independent country? The majority of Scottish people voted NO. Only 44.7% of the Scottish voters
voted for Scotland becoming an independent nation. This referendum could break union with
Englandthat has lasted over 300 years (Government UK). And now the Scottish National Party does
everything for Scottish independence ( Why vote YES for Scottish Independence? ). I agree with
them; in my opinion, Scotland should be independent.

There are lots of examples of small countries with a high income and high quality of living like
Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, and so on. Even the Unionists agree that Scotland
has everything that is needed for independence and that it will make Scottish people richer (
Why vote YES for Scottish Independence? ). For instance, Scotland has enormous oil reserves.
Most of the income and taxes made from oil go to Westminster and don t serve any useful
purpose for Scotland. If Scotland becomes independent, all of the income from oil reserves will
go directly to the Scotland Treasury. Scotland has many natural resources that allow for
sustainable energy. In the same time, the energy and electricity demand in Europe is rising and
Scotland could become one of the leading global suppliers, which would provide more jobs.
Furthermore, all centralized services and offices, like the Tax office, will be relocated to Scotland,
thereby providing more jobs for people and increasing income, which is beneficial for the economy

Mise-En-ScпїЅne Challenges Linear Temporality
Mise En ScГЁne Challenges Linear Temporality Alfred Hitchcock s Rope (1948) creates suspense
through the dramatic irony of a dinner party where the missing guest s dead body is hidden in the
very chest off of which the guests dine. Brandon (John Dall) and Phillip s (Farley Granger)
Nietzschean ideals are not fully revealed to the audience until the introduction of critical supporting
character Rupert Cadell (James Stewart). An impeccably dressed, suave, intellectual man, Rupert
reveals critical information about the men which eventually spoils Brandon s plan. The expository
characterization of Rupert through performance and costume elements of mise en scГЁne adds
important background information about Brandon and Phillip and challenges them intellectually,
thus creating tension around the linear temporality of Brandon s plan and the plot. Through Stewart
s performance, Rupert acts in ways to indicate a familiarity with Brandon and Phillip which
contrasts the forward movement of the rest of the plot. The film closely follows linear temporality,
or a plot which follows chronological time, through a logical succession of calculated events
designed by Brandon to torment his guests. Rupert challenges, and ultimately foils, this neat
progression by interjecting information about the men s past. Rupert s regressive comments are
presented as the audience first meets him through calling out improvements in Phillip s piano
playing. Stewart s performance paints Rupert as an elite intellectual whom Brandon idolizes.
Brandon regresses in his presence, stumbling over his words and nervously repeating himself,
which Rupert likens to his past by saying, You always did stutter when you were excited. His
naming of Brandon and Phillip s faults emphasizes his familiarity with them as younger men, thus
further contrasting the linearity of the story with constant nostalgia. Hitchcock s manipulation of
linear temporality exaggerates a long term cause and effect relationship that would not be apparent
to viewers without Rupert s character spotlighting the past. Viewers learn that Rupert is the source
of Brandon s Nietzschean ideas, and Rupert is forced to come to terms with the terrible resulting
effects of exposing young people to

In the article, Caught in the Web: More People Say Heavy Internet Use is Disrupting Their Lives,

People, who used internet too much, tend to have migraines, and later on, affect the brain. When

Clothing During The Elizabethan Era
History has had many different Eras that helped shape the world today. The Elizabethan Era was
one of them. The Elizabethan Era was during the time of the Renaissance. It was a re birthed of
the old ways of ancient Rome and Greek culture. It was also a time for new fashion designs and
styles. The clothes during this time were different then what we wear today, a symbol of several
religious and economical ideas, and had an impact on how the people went about their lives.

What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable
Maddie Yamona
Western Civilization II
Mr. Horswell
29 September, 2017
What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable
Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the religion back in his
times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the relatability it shows in aspects of
depression, love, and finding your identity. Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life
and the decisions he has made and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use
Augustine s Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the way
he judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has done and why.
Augustine goes through trying to find himself through things of the world and then finally realizes
why he can not when he steps back and looks at the fact that he must first find himself in God.
Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and this includes the
struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close friends and begins to become
depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I could not rest, I could not think intelligent.
(Augustine. 64). When Augustine becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around
people and people can relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to
think not time around other people. Another example of when Augustine is depressed is when
Augustine realizes how

Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin Cancer
In recent years incidence of non melanoma skin cancer and actinic keratosis (AK) has increased.
The tumours are treated with the help of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, and topical therapies
to manage superficial carcinoma and actinic keratosis. This review briefs about skin physiology,
non melanoma skincancer, relationship between actinic keratosis(AK) and skin cancer, different
drugs used in dermal preparations for management of actinic keratosis and novel approaches for
targeting drugs to skin neoplasm and actinic keratosis are discussed.
Introduction :
Development of skin cancer is most commonly seen in Caucasian popoualtion(1) (Bradford PT.,
2009).Damage of DNA due to ultraviolet radiations lead to formation of such type of cancer.
Actinic keratosis (AK) is also called as Solar keratosis or Senail keratosis.
AK severs as a marker for an increase in nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), even in the absence
of any specific lesion progression. The risk for progression of AK to invasive SCC with the
potential for metastasis provides the rationale for treatment(2) (Ibrahim and Brown, 2009). Early
diagnosis should be done for treatment of patients with skin cancer. Anticancer drugs administered
orally or by the intravenous route are associated with serious side effects when given systemically.
Topical dosage forms deliver most of the drug locally with fewer side effects compared with other
routes of administration.
Limited number of molecules has been administered topically

The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story,
Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is
forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The
husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development
beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and
finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new
understanding of the blindman. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new
view of the world.
As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As
he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. (34) It
immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put
in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his
idea of blindness came from movies. (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable
and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should
be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression
that he feels that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to
be jealous of the

Gary Weston Character Analysis
The term of events of the movie August Osage County blew me away. Personally, I think Meryl
Streep is a brilliant actress and the way she takes on a character amazes me. Seeing this film for
the first time in class just reminded me of how great she is on the big screen. Not only was this
movie dark and twisted but so was her family. She played a sick mothersuffering from Oral Cancer
and a heavy drug addiction, Violet Weston.
During this movie you encounter love, hate, tragedy, great loss and a lot of anger. This family
goes through many different stages of grief and suffer a tremendous loss when they find out their
father, Beverly passed away. Before his passing you notice how disconnected the family is. Violet
and Beverly had three daughters, Ivy, Barbara and Karen, only one lived nearby and looked after
them. Barbara was married and had a daughter, she had her own problems. Her husband had
cheated on her and left her, although still loving her and telling her he just couldn t be with her
anymore. They share a teenage daughter that is shown in the film who is not having a fun time
growing up.
Karen Weston, as described by her family in the movie was never really around. She found
happiness in finding a different man all the time and being far away from home. She was pretty

What Was The Impact Of The Indian Removal Act

that all the Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River had to move west of the
Mississippi River. This affected the 5 tribes which were called; Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw,
Creeks, and the Choctaw tribes. The reason President Jackson signed this act was to make the

On May 28, 1830, Jackson signed the Removal Act, which authorized the president to grant
unsettled lands west of the Mississippi River in exchange for Indian lands within existing state
borders. (Legends, 1) As incentives to the Indians to sign the Removal treaties, the government
promised financial assistance for relocation and the protection of the United States government
forever. (Indian, 2) In 1831, the Choctaw were the first to leave under threat of United States
Army invasion. They were forced to leave on foot without any supplies or food with some in

which forced the Cherokee to be removed during the Fall and Winter of 1838 and 1839.
Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died. (Legends, 2) In 1836, the Creeks were also forced from

Essay On Is Canada A Just Society
Canada as a Just Society
Canada as a just society has changed a lot throughout the years, Canada has and still is a
discriminative place but I believe it has definitely improved but there are still changes that need
to be made. However,As said Canada has changed for the better andit has improved a lot since
her older days, and not everything will always be perfect, a conflict will always arise and maybe
we cannot always solve the problem. Canadian identity has been working towards a just society but
it has been negatively affected by how they have treated minorities in World War One, with
aboriginals in residential schools, the enactment of the War Measures Act in a time of peace and the
continued LGBTQ discrimination.
Canada before working towards becoming a just society was a very discriminative place. During
the events of World War One,WWI black and Chinese Canadians were prevented from joining
the war along with aboriginals. Women were treated the same at the time, it was common for
most women to stay at home wives and take care of the children. This was the stereotypical
family at the time and was believed to be the ideal family too. Canadians thought poorly of
minorities and even claimed it was to keep them safe, the aboriginals were an example, Canadians
claimed the enemies might believe that they are savages which was a reflection of how they truly
felt. Minorities were clearly being treated worse than the majority, they were seen as inferior and

Lamb To The Slaughter And The Open Window
Compare and Contrast Essay The short stories written by Saki called The Open Window and The
Lamb of the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl are two great and amazing stories. While some
differences between Mary Maloney from Lamb to the Slaughter and Vera Sappleton from The
Open Window, the similarities are salient. The similarities between the two plots of the stories
both involve a female who is the antagonist and who have both done something bad. The character
Mary Maloney and Vera Sappleton are similar because they both did something wrong and they are
both the one ones who know what they did. Also, they both know how to lie and manipulate other
people into believing whatever it is they want them to believe. The themes are similar in such...

Mary Maloney is pregnant and is married and lives with her husband while Vera is only fifteen
years old and is living with her aunt. In Lamb to the Slaughter, one of the themes is betrayal for

betrayal comes from Mary for killing her husband. In The Open Window another theme is
appearance as reality. The point of this theme is that what an individual perceives becomes his
reality. Framton Nuttel (a new neighbor) was expecting to see three ghosts come through the
window, so when he saw the three men coming towards the house, he could not get out of there
any faster. The conflict in The Open Window is Vera tricking Mr. Nuttel to believe he has seen

A Research On The Homeless Population
1. In your text on pages 208 209, the author discusses his research on the homeless population. He
refers to the many routes one can take to become homeless. Choose two populations from his list
that you think might work in your career as a human service professional. Describe two possible
interventions or tasks that you might be involved with in working with each population. What are
some of the general skills a human services professional might need to work with these populations?
There are many types of homelessness in our society and our community. They become homeless
for different reasons; it could be intentional or uncontrolled. The two that stick out the most for
my community are the push outs and the new poor. The push outs are people who are kicked out
by their parents, commonly teenagers; or families and adults who are evicted from landlords. The
new poor are when people become unemployed due to work skills are out of date because of
technological changes. Some skills that are needed to help each one of these groups is to meet their
current needs. As addressing the needs of the homeless it is important to focus on prevention, as
well as, remediation of their problem ( What is human service, 2011). As human service
professionals should listen to their clients. When a client is speaking the clinician should pay
attention, provide support, empathy, assessing, and goal setting.

Title: ?Why Personal Development Helps Business Development?
When entrepreneurs and business leaders think about how they can better improve their businesses
or develop their small, start up companies into successful corporate giants, personal development is
one strategy that often doesn?t come to mind. However, personal development is actually the most
important thing entrepreneurs and business leaders can do for their business development skills and
strategy. One?s personal development is highly critical to the success of their business
development, and here s why.
Previously, people went to work everyday just to work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether big or small, regardless of their type of field, industry, or desired market, businesses
everywhere are now beginning to realize that by empowering their staff, and instilling drive,
passion, motivation, and other essential personal values into them, oftentimes by being a shining
example of those values yourself as their business leader, you can guide your staff towards bringing
about better results for your business, making more progress for your business, and altogether
developing your business into a more successful model.
Now more than ever, personal development is key to helping business development in today?s
highly competitive and digitalized corporate landscape. Previously, around fifty or so years ago,
the corporate landscape was much less competitive?and much less empowering. When an
entrepreneur or a business leader wanted to see an increase in results for their company, they
simply hired more workers to a single shift to add more units and up productivity, which would
then hopefully get the number of results the entrepreneur or business leader was looking for.
When a worker was slowing down the whole team?s productivity or progress, or not doing
enough to meet the company?s goals set by the entrepreneur and business leader, then all the
entrepreneur or business leader would do typically would be to bring them into their office and
tell them to do a better job and work harder or find another way of paying the bills

Mesopotamian Empire And Cyrus Similarities
There were several differences and similarities within the Persian Empire that emerged under
Cyrus the great and earlier Mesopotamian Empires. Not all empires flourished as well as Cyrus
the great s did due to his moral virtues and way of ruling. One king by the name of Tiglath had
some similar values but his empire did not prosper in such ways as Cyrus s. Not only were there
differences and similarities between these different Empires but there were also different ways
that Cyrus and his successors coopt earlier religious, political, and social traditions and i ll give
several examples of them within this essay. To start off with The Persian Empires under Cyrus s
control did not flourish off of brutal murder and harsh ruling as with several other empires
operated. Cyrus is talked about as being a legendary King not only in the battlefield but how he

Billy Budd, And The Fiery Bucephalus
Melville describes Billy in a sexual manner within the first few pages, introducing the sexual
language almost immediately. He is the handsome sailor compared to the young Alexander and
the fiery Bucephalus (Melville 6). Further down the same page he is described as, always
attractive in masculine conjunction and goes under the nickname Baby Budd (Melville 6). There
is immediately a sense of sexual attraction attached to the title character. He is described in sexual
terms and presented as a prime physical example of a man. Inciting feelings of attraction and a
sense of tranquility within the men around him, the reader is shown right away that this is natural
when it comes to Billy Budd. Additionally, due to the fact that the feelings Billy Budd incites in
people are introduced within the first few pages of the novella, the reader feels that it is a natural
part of the story throughout it. The description of Budd s attraction continues from chapter one, into
chapter two. His physical attractivenessis exhaustedly described and it works to allow the reader
to see just how easy it is to fall for the handsome sailor. He is compared to the Hercules of Greek
mythology, a handsome and shapely figure, and to Biblical Adam. The novella reads, Budd, In
aspect looked even younger than he really was, owing to a lingering adolescent expression in the as
yet smooth face all but feminine in purity of natural complexion but where, thanks to seagoing, the

Trojan War
Was The Trojan War Just?
The Trojan War was a Greek mythological war waged on account of the beautiful Helen, wife of
the Spartan king Menelaus, being stolen from Greece by Paris, Prince of Troy. It is one of the
most important, if not the most important, event in Greek mythology. The dispute originated from
a quarrel between three goddesses, Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite. They were fighting to see who
was the fairest among them. They were sent by Zeus to Paris in order for him to judge them. Paris
chose Aphrodite after she offered to make Helen, the most beautiful of all women, fall in love with
him. She then proceeded to take Helen from Menelaus, with Paris s help and give her to him, thus
causing the Trojan War. Throughout this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For in the end, many innocent lives are taken, therefore a just war is waged only for the right
intentions. After all, the Bible does tell us that there is a time to love, and a time to hate; a time
for war, and a time for peace (Ecclesiastes 3:8). War is not wrong, but it is wrong if waged for the
wrong reasons. Was The Trojan War righteous? The Bible says, Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34). After all, what is righteousness? It is acting
in accord with moral or divine law. This is not the kind of divinity defined by the divine gods of
ancient Greece, but the divinity that comes from the true Lord. According to His laws, waging a
war on account of beautiful woman, is not righteous, or in alignment with moral law. And to
consider material gain over the preservation of innocent life is not war for the right intention
(righteousness). In a just war, the ultimate goal should be to re establish peace. Consequently, the
war must have begun in turmoil, without peace. In this case, however, the war caused strife and
turmoil. Before the war, the two countries got along reasonably. During and after the war, there
was hatred. Now that is not the result of a just war, or even the goal. In the first place, anyway,
there was no consideration of ultimate peace. No, only vanity and material gain were in the mind
of the king and the people of Greece. If the authorities of Greece and Troy were putting peace

Staying Mentally Fit is Just as Important as Exercise and...
When you think of living healthy the first thing you probably think of is eating healthy and
exercise. That is very true and is extremely important in healthy living, but there is also one factor
you probably didn t think about. That is mental health. Mental health is keeping your mind in shape.
I want to talk about some disorders that coincide with mental instability and how to stay mentally
fit.
The first example of mental instability is eating disorders. The main two eating disorders and
anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia is when the person literally starves themselves to death or causing
them to lose a life threatening amount of weight. Anorexia usually occurs in females and causes

Without treatment depression only gets worse and more frequent. Symptoms of depression involves
some combination of the following symptoms: depressed mood (sadness), poor concentration,

on earth because they felt incompetent. Like their lives didn t have a purpose. Like people, even
their closest family members wouldn t even care if they died.Thankfully you can help. Simple
things like compliments on how their skirt is one of a kind or how cool their new shoes are.
On a lighter note I want to talk about ways that you can keep your mind healthy. You can devise
a way to use new words that you learned. (ohh! Vocab word!)You can start playing puzzles like
sudoku and jumbles in the paper. They may sound boring and like a waste of time but they are

know, sounds boring too. I have a friend who would say Reading is dumb. Go make your own

Headgear Aggression
Correspondingly, the psychological effects of a protective headgear are also being examined in
relation to possible growth in aggression. There is already a correlation between competition and
increased aggressions. After analyzing data collected in the NCAA Injury Surveillance System,
Randall Dick recognized gameinjury rates, accumulated at 7.15 injuries per every 1000 athlete
exposure, to nearly double the practice rate, which stood at 3.30 injuries per every athletic
exposure (262). This evidence revealed a new fear of the increased competitive nature of game

Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea
The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is
the sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a
number of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and
some are problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If
man is lucky enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until
death to retain it; if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of
the sea (any one of life s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In
either case, it is the struggle that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles
the sea (life) with grace under pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and
encounters a giant marlin (treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks
(problems) to save it. The struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the
marlin) to the sharks (the problems), he has won the sea battle(life).
In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway
himself. He is capable in his profession, has proved his talent several times before, but that is not
sufficient. He has to prove it every day, for every day is a new day. Santiago s suffering is akin to
artistic creation, which is never

How growth hormone regulate various body functions in adults. The growth hormones mainly
regulate the body functions via feedback loops. The process is a two way mode of
communication whereby the target organ releases molecules that regulate the endocrine. The
feedback loops are mainly concerned with the maintenance of the hormonal concentration within
range. Endocrine disorder can be classified based on the underproduction or excess production of
the hormone (Medical Discoveries, 2011). The growth hormone is mainly produced from the
brain and it stimulates insulin like factor (IGF 1). It also mediates the actions of HGH which
regulates variety of biological activities including cellular division, development of the body,
overall growth and metabolism. It also plays an important role in body composition, bone and
muscle strength. The growth hormones play an important role in adults because growth factors
have an important role in longevity determination and aging. The growth hormone reverses some
of the first signs and symptoms seen in aging and affects the hair color, brain cells and cellulite.
The growth hormone decreases as age increases but HGH, HGH releasing hormone and IGF 1 are

Instead America is like a tossed salad. A person can see all the individual ingredients that make up
the salad. People will argue of what can go into a salad and what cannot go into just as people will
argue about the place of certain groups with America. Some find disgust in certain groups of people

with the tossed salad that is America. Antisemitism in United Statesis on a decline because other
groups are being used as scapegoats instead, Jews are not seen to pose a threat, a strong Holocaust

the American context.
The FBI website lays out the numbers. The site has hate crime statistics up to 2014. In 2014 there
were 609 anti Jewish biased hate incidents compared to 1,621 Anti Black or African American

The Birth Control Of Margaret Sanger
Growing up as a young woman today in a world where sex sells, would be unimaginable without
the creation and use of birth control. Birth control not only gives women rights as to whether or
not they want to bear children but it also helps women with menstrual cycles. Women at one point
had no contraception or information on birth control. Imagine the world today without knowledge
on contraception. Imagine how middle to lower class citizens would survive. Most of the children
would be lucky to be fed yet alone college educated. This is all because one woman, Margaret
Sanger, devoted her life to this cause. This research paper will address who Margaret Sanger was,
why birth control meant so much to her and how she devoted her life to its cause and creation.
According to Woman of Valor: Margaret Sanger and the Birth Control Movement in America, by
Ellen Chesler, Margaret Sanger was born in Corning, New York as a middle child with eleven
other siblings in a poor Victorian family. (Reed 4). Margaret s parents were Irish, her father was
known to be an alcoholic and her mother is described as over burdened but resourceful . Chesler
points out that one parent taught her to defy, the other to comport, these two traits are essential
in her future as a mother and social activist. (Reed 6). Sanger s mother, according to Margaret
Sanger: Her Life in Her Words, by Miriam Reed, was sick most of her life. She suffered from
tuberculosis that left her sick and killed her after a long

Clarisse s Living Conditions In Fahrenheit 451

Clarisse also shows the second example of the terrible conditions within Fahrenheit 451, through
the same conversation with Montag. She says to him I m afraid of children my age. They kill
each other ... Six of my friends have been shot in the last year alone. Ten of them died in car
wrecks (30). In this world, the children spend most of their free time killing each for sadistic
sport. There is no doubt of the repulsivity of such a world. The final example of the terrifying
conditions within Fahrenheit 451 presents itself when Captain Beatty explains to Montag how their
society functions. Beatty attempts to achieve this understanding by asking What do we want in
this country, above all? People want to be happy, isn t that right? ... Well aren t they? Don t we
keep them moving, don t we give them fun? That s all we live for, isn t it? For pleasure, for
titillation? And you must admit our culture provides plenty of these (59). What has become
apparent, through this speech, is that society within the novel has become entirely hedonistic. They
lack all depth and spiritualism, only caring for fun and immediate

Argument Against Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution Essay
Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution to explain the origin, diversity and complexity of
life. I will will disprove evolution by showing that natural selection only explains small evolutionary
changes, collectively known as microevolution. Natural selection cannot drive large evolutionary
changes, macroevolution. I will also show that the primordial soup, in which life supposedly
evolved, did not exist.
Neo Darwinism incorporates the discoveries of modern science into Darwin s original theory while
leaving the basic beliefs intact. Darwin proposed that individuals with favorable traits are more
likely to survive and reproduce. Darwin called this process natural selection. Darwin did not
understand how or why variation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural selection forces animals and plants to adapt. Microevolution happens, and it has been
observed in numerous scientific experiments.
The real question is not whether or not microevolution happens. It does, but can microevolution be
extended to explain large evolutionary changes? Such changes require new genes.
Natural selection only optimizes existing genes: If a gene does not exist, it cannot provide a
selective advantage. Natural selection only operates on existing genes.
When an existing gene tries to evolve into a new gene, the evolving gene must provide some
selective advantage, before natural selection can drive the transition. (The declaration of many
evolutionists that natural selection drives the transition every step of the way, implies that the
evolving gene must perform its new function before it evolves into the new gene. This is like
saying a bird with no wings can fly.)
Random chance not natural selection is responsible for the evolution of new genes. Until an
evolving gene offers some competitive advantage, natural selection is out of the picture.
If evolution is not a viable theory, then why is it generally accepted by modern science and why is
it often taught as a proven fact in high school and college?
To answer this question, let us take a trip back in time to the late
1800 s. Darwin observed birds on the Galapagos islands over 100 years ago, and the variation that

The French New Wave Cinema
French New Wave cinema is widely considered one of the most influential periods in cinematic
history. The filmmaking techniques and ideas utilized during the French New Wave period can still
be seen in modern cinema, with some films uses them more than others. Two films that more
obviously been influenced by the era are Quentin Tarantino s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs and
Christopher Nolan s 2000 film Memento. These films exude many traits and styles synonymous
with French New Wavecinema such as jump cuts and non continuity editing, a low budget, anti
heroic main characters, as well as others.
French New Wave was a cinematic movement that was active between the late 1950 s and the
late 1960 s though the origins go back to german occupied France from the early 1940 s.
Following the liberation of 1944, France saw the end of restrictions of media imposed by
german occupation and the cinema became more popular than ever, with a stockpile of banned
American films starting to flow in and France ramping up film production once again. Despite
this by the early 1950 s it became more popular opinion by both critics and audiences that had
become, for a lack of a better word, stale, getting bogged down in an endless cycle of generic
historical reconstructions and uninspired literary adaptations... French Cinema was said to be in

Effectiveness And The Overall Perception Of The Police Force
A diverse society is a society in which there are different kinds of people, different races such as
black, white, Asian, Mexican etc. The concept of diversity involves acceptance and respect. It
means understanding that each individual is unique and recognising individual differences. These
can be along the dimensions of race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socio economic
status, physical abilities and religious beliefs.
Diversity in the police force is one of the most important aspects that should be looked at. This is
due to the outcome that it is most likely to have on the effectiveness and the overall perception
of the police force. Policing is one of the most vital requirements of a non violent living of
society. Policing can be seen as overseeing others ensuring that they keep to law and order. As a
result the most significant work of the police is to implement public orders and ensure that they
abide by the law. The police force is given the order of enforcing law in the society. It ensures
people to practice their individual rights but in doing so they do not obstruct with the rights of
others to practice their rights too.
The police force is also given responsibilities to oversee the public relationship. In servicing the
public, the police therefore are involved in an arrangement of activities that are meant to ensure a
supportive atmosphere of life in the public. In this regard, they adapt important functions like
management and directing of traffic,

living record of [his] memory (Shakespeare line 8). In the third quatrain he reiterates the idea of
immortality and image of destruction and waste is continued. Shakespeare writes, gainst death and
all oblivious enmity/ shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room (Shakespeare lines 9 10).
The ending couplet sums up the main idea of the sonnet. It continues with the image of eternity and
the memory of the addressee. When
Shakespeare writes So, till the judgment that yourself arise / you live in this and dwell in lovers
eyes there is still an emphasis on the word of the poem itself. The real praise is towards the
words of the speaker, not the beauty of the addressee or the speakers love for him. The regularity
in the flow of the poem helps the main ideas flow well. There s more fluidity in the regulation; this
allows each quatrain to build on each other strengthening the main point of the sonnet. The lesson
to be learned in this specific sonnet is the idea of the immortality of literature. The entire poem is
masked by the idea of praise for the addressee.
The language of the poem, the destructiveness, suggests the survivability of the poem itself.
Shakespeare is using

Racially Offensive Speech
Recently in 2015 the topic on college campuses is racially offensive talk. When I first heard
about this I was shocked. I never thought of a college ever being a place where you d find
students talking in a racist way. To me school has always been a place where I didn t think anyone
had to worry about hateful or racially offensive speech. But to my surprise many campuses around
the United States have this problem and they need to find a way to solve it.
According to an article I read titled AMERICANS ARE SPLIT ALONG PARTY LINES OVER
WHETHER SCHOOLS SHOULD PUNISH RACIST SPEECH This article surprised me how many
college students think penalty should be given to people on campus using hateful or racially
offensive speech, to try and resolve this problem. In a poll done by Huffington Post/YouGov
reviled that 53 percent of college students feel this way. The same poll reviled that 45 percent of
students think that the College campuses should be responsible for teaching students about issues
relating to racism, but 41 percent thinks that the College should not be responsible. College
campuses in my opinion do have this responsibility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This survey called the Pew survey reviled the opposite, 43 percent of students think the higher
priority on a college campus is the absolute right the free speech, over having an environment
free from discrimination even if that means sacrificing some of your free speech on the college
campus. A New York magazine writer by the name of Jesse Singal said They ve shown over and
over again that they favor free speech in theory, when asked about it in the broadest terms, but
they also tend to be fairly enthusiastic about government bans on forms of speech they find
particularly offensive. So yes, millennials are very iffy on free speech if you ask

Complexities Of Communism
Society has developed political theories conducting the lifestyles of surrounding communities.
The foundation of communism constructed eruptions, division, and colossal affects penetrating the
lives
of many during the time of corruption. Society has ventured the different aspects of communism`

hardships that democracies has barely touched in. One cannot understand the complexities of a
communism state of government without first understanding the foundation.
The idea of communism is derived from political theorist Karl Marx, leading to a community in

Countries that have experienced communism in their economy obtain a high chance of
government collapse such as the Soviet Union due to insufficient supplies and lack of allies. Not
only
did it have a hard time finding economic partners, it was also pushed into an arms race it couldn t
possibly win. Changing your economic system into a political theory that is known to be destroying
can
cause tensions and lose the allies that were once formed. One of the main reasons for the economic
stagnation was the Soviet s failure to manufacture innovative products that could compete on the
market.
The manufacturing of goods is the government s main source of profits and having that industry
decline
in earnings can create debt and insufficient amount of goods leading to the collapse of a society.
Implementing communism into a countries federal system can cause a decline in profit creating a
chain

The American Epidemic of Obesity
As Americans we have made food not only a way to live but all help us with life events, whether
emotional times or celebratory events we turn to food. However our society has been consumed
with unhealthy food options readily available. This has in turn caused a huge medical epidemic in
America. Obesity has and will put people at risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some types of
cancer. More than one third of American adults are obese (Ogden et al., 2012). By looking in depth
at the obesity epidemic in America through the three major sociological perspectives (structural
functionalist, social conflict, and symbolic interactionist) we are able to better discern this medical
issue impacting the health of American people. Structural Functionalist Perspective The structural
functionalist perspective would argue obesity in America is a necessary epidemic to our society.
After all, structural functionalist believe that all mechanisms that exist a definite meaning and are
useful to society as a whole. Structural functionalist could say that having overweight and obese
people in the world causes us to put attention on the true problems of health care. Obesity for a
structural functionalist is crucial for the continuous learning of human health and also for our love
and hate relationship with food. Structural functional would also argue that having an obese
population might inspire others to avoid the path of unhealthy habits. It would help people to make

Archetypal Criticism In In The Time Of The Butterflies By...
The Deeper Meaning
An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the
utmost possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has an impactful underlying meaning
and can be interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a
theory based off common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of an
archetype can be defined as a very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With
that being said, readers can apply Archetypal Criticism to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia
Alvarez. Alvarez uses common character types, like the hero and the villain, and also uses the
symbol of butterflies in her novel.

M. Cutter Edwards, an Entomologist, states, Butterflies are deep and powerful representations

butterfly was a symbol for them, not only because that is what they were called, but also
because they symbolized what it meant to be a butterfly. The Mirabal sisters changed from
being little children following their parents, to individuals leading a revolution and having other

Comparison Of King Lear And Gloucester Essay
Shakespeare uses subplots to dramatize the action of the play and give spark on the contrast for the
themes in King Lear. Sub plots usually improve the effect of dramatic irony and suspense. The
latter, which is used in King Lear, gives us the understanding of the emotions of the characters in
the play. This follows the parallelism between Gloucesterand King Lear.
In King Lear, the subplot of Gloucester corresponds to the major plot of King Lear. Both fathers
have their own loyal legitimate child and their evil and disloyal child. They are both honourable
men, who have children that return to them in their time of need. Gloucester and Lear are both
tormented, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gloucester s death in the subplot is a parallel to that of King Lear s in the main plot. Though
Gloucester does not have the tragic catastrophic death of King Lear. King Lear s anguish led him
to insanity while Gloucester is led to despair and attempts suicide. Before Gloucester s attempt at
suicide, he realizes that he has wronged Edgar and condemns his blindness of Edmund s plans.
My father, poorly led? World, world, O world! But that thy strange mutations make us hate thee,
Life would not yield to age. (Act 4 Scene 1 Pg. 207 lines 10 12) This parallels Lear s death as he
also condemns his daughter Cordelia. I have seen the day, with my good biting falchion I would
have made em skip. I am old now, And these same crosses spoil me. Who are you? Mine eyes are
not o the best, I ll tell you straight. (Act 5 Scene 3 pg. 317 lines 276 279) Both deaths run on the
same train tracks, as King Lear and Gloucester die as better and wiser men than they showed
themselves at first.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare uses the contrast through other characters such as Cordelia and
Edgar, who hides in the beginning and then later reveal themselves to conquer and defeat evil
forces. Subplots do make the play better all around and make the audience want to know more and
enjoy it. Lear and Gloucester even are totally different people but live in a parallel world, they are

It is clear why the breach of security on the southern border is of concern to both governments as
well as to citizens of US and Mexico. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is working to
secure the border by ensuring that an effective combination of staffing, technology, and
infrastructure is utilized to protect the more than 8,000 miles of land and maritime areas along
both the northern and southern borders, however the current system in place needs urgent changes
in order to secure the borders and move forward to target all illicit activities that take place on the
border. The next step will be redirect the attention and work on the effects that it brings to citizens
of the countries involved. It is easy to think only on the effects that it brings to United States but
also for Mexico it has a negative impact. It is often assumed that illegal immigrants are all
Mexican citizens crossing the border however this statement is not a fact. Mexico is being used as
a bridge by illegal immigration immigrating to United States from neighbor countries such as
Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Peru. The federal government, the DHS and

Organization Design in FMC Green River Essay
Organization Design in FMC Green River
Organization design is a formal, guided process for integrating the people, information and

possible to the purpose of the organization. This design process seeks to improve and facilitate the
efforts of members within the organization. With respect to FMC Corporation s Green River,
Wyoming facility, under the guidance of this entity s site manager, Kenneth Dailey, the design

eliminate fear in his employees and instead increase productivity and potential beneficial risk

division with respective team leaders elected to help manage the family. Management made their
employees feel trusted and implemented an almost self directed system with just the appropriate

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Adoption
The social issue I have chosen is pet adoption and why people should choose this way of finding
an animal companion, as opposed to buying one. This is an issue because across the United
States, there is an overpopulation or mistreatment of dogs and cats every day. Animal shelters take
in these animals and care for them as much as they can. Animal shelter intakes are anything from
those picked up by an animal control, surrendered by owners, or rescued from reports of animal
cruelty. In the United States, approximately 5 12 million companion animals enter animal shelters
annually and approximately 1 4 million of these are euthanized. The Wood County Humane
Society, located in Bowling Green, OH, is one of the several shelters that care for animals in need
of help.
There are many reasons why so many animals are in need of adoption, the main concerns being:
breeding facilities, puppy mills, and strays. The breeders profit at an animal s expense because
for every animal bred, an animal in a shelter loses its chance of finding a home. Inbreeding can
also cause painful and even life threatening health effects to the animals and while some breeders
sell healthy, well treated animals, other breeders may be abusive. Another reason is puppy mills, or
commercial dog breeding facilities, in which the health and welfare of the animals are not the main
priority. There are an estimated 10,000 mills in the US, producing about 2 million puppies each
year. The last main reason is the

Creative Development of Robert Schumann
Concert program: The creative development of Robert Schumann Introduction One of the unique
features of the 19th century composer Robert Schumann s output is the degree to which the
verbal mediums of literature (such as poetry and drama) affected his musical output. While
many operas have been inspired by great literature, Schumann s expression even in his piano
compositions and non verbally oriented musical works show a literary flair. Many of his
compositions allude to characters or scenes from poems, novels, and plays; others are like
musical crossword puzzles with key signatures or musical themes that refer to people or places
important to him (Gifford 2012). Schumann worked as an editor and journalist for a popular
musical magazine, the Neue Zeitsfchrift fur Musik, and had a great deal of literary self
consciousness about how he constructed his art (Gifford 2012). Ironically, Schumann s operas
were not successful and it is his nonverbal piano works that have solidified his reputation for
musical greatness. A number of musical critics have noted that there is a distinct break in the tone,
style, and structure of Robert Schumann s earlier works with his later output. Characterizations
like subjective objective suggest that Schumann s instrumental works of the early 1840s broke
cleanly from the music of his past (Brown 2004). His earlier songs of the 1830s are considered to
be some of the finest expressions of short, Romantic musical forms. He virtually

  • 2. Compare The Gambling Environment When considering the proliferation of gambling advertising it is important to compare the gambling environment established before deregulation and the extent to which it has changed post deregulation. The problems affiliated with gambling are not a new phenomenon, as such considerable research has been done to mitigate and control the derived negatives (Eadington, 2012). Applying age restrictions, promoting easily accessible helplines for those with a problem, self exclusion programs and limiting access to gamblinghave met with success and led credence to the belief that gambling is no longer a focus for criminal activity or a form of glamorous extravagance (Delfabbro, 2011). However since the sudden deregulation of gambling, advertising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Heart-warming Tale of Girls and Boys Town Girls Boys Town is different! The story of Girls and Boys Town is one of the most heart warming tales of human effort of the 20th Century. It is a tale of faith, courage and sympathy one that enchanted the imagination of the world and changed the way South Africa cares for challenged youth. Founded by the late Bishop Reginald Orsmond in 1958 and based on the principles of Father Flanagan s famous Girls Boys Town in Nebraska, USA, Girls Boys Town has granted thousands of children of all races, genders, faith and languages a new beginning. Most of them arrive here with broken dreams, sick at heart and in body too. Some have been physically or sexually abused, forgotten or abandoned. Some come from broken homes, do badly at school, have discipline issues, and lack social skills. What makes them different ? Girls and Boys Town is under the guidance of adults, the kids actually govern themselves, electing their Mayor, Councillors and Managers who make the rules and see that they are kept. This capitalises on the teenage desire to be admired and respected by their peers. Our eight registered Children s Homes four large Youth Development Centres and four community family homes offer residential care to children whose own families cannot cope and who don t do well in foster care. What are their objectives? Girls and Boys Town, South Africa delivers national services that: Take into consideration the needs of adolescents and adolescents home environments ... • 4. Should Scotland Become Independent Scottish Independence Today, changes in the political map of the world are not a big deal. It changes very often. And one of the possible changes becomes the attempt of Scotland to be independent. A national referendum was held in Scotland on 18 September 2014, which shook the country to its core (Government UK). Voters had to answer only one question: Should Scotlandbe an independent country? The majority of Scottish people voted NO. Only 44.7% of the Scottish voters voted for Scotland becoming an independent nation. This referendum could break union with Englandthat has lasted over 300 years (Government UK). And now the Scottish National Party does everything for Scottish independence ( Why vote YES for Scottish Independence? ). I agree with them; in my opinion, Scotland should be independent. Scotland would get a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are lots of examples of small countries with a high income and high quality of living like Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, and so on. Even the Unionists agree that Scotland has everything that is needed for independence and that it will make Scottish people richer ( Why vote YES for Scottish Independence? ). For instance, Scotland has enormous oil reserves. Most of the income and taxes made from oil go to Westminster and don t serve any useful purpose for Scotland. If Scotland becomes independent, all of the income from oil reserves will go directly to the Scotland Treasury. Scotland has many natural resources that allow for sustainable energy. In the same time, the energy and electricity demand in Europe is rising and Scotland could become one of the leading global suppliers, which would provide more jobs. Furthermore, all centralized services and offices, like the Tax office, will be relocated to Scotland, thereby providing more jobs for people and increasing income, which is beneficial for the economy ( Why vote YES for Scottish ... • 5. Mise-En-ScпїЅne Challenges Linear Temporality Mise En ScГЁne Challenges Linear Temporality Alfred Hitchcock s Rope (1948) creates suspense through the dramatic irony of a dinner party where the missing guest s dead body is hidden in the very chest off of which the guests dine. Brandon (John Dall) and Phillip s (Farley Granger) Nietzschean ideals are not fully revealed to the audience until the introduction of critical supporting character Rupert Cadell (James Stewart). An impeccably dressed, suave, intellectual man, Rupert reveals critical information about the men which eventually spoils Brandon s plan. The expository characterization of Rupert through performance and costume elements of mise en scГЁne adds important background information about Brandon and Phillip and challenges them intellectually, thus creating tension around the linear temporality of Brandon s plan and the plot. Through Stewart s performance, Rupert acts in ways to indicate a familiarity with Brandon and Phillip which contrasts the forward movement of the rest of the plot. The film closely follows linear temporality, or a plot which follows chronological time, through a logical succession of calculated events designed by Brandon to torment his guests. Rupert challenges, and ultimately foils, this neat progression by interjecting information about the men s past. Rupert s regressive comments are presented as the audience first meets him through calling out improvements in Phillip s piano playing. Stewart s performance paints Rupert as an elite intellectual whom Brandon idolizes. Brandon regresses in his presence, stumbling over his words and nervously repeating himself, which Rupert likens to his past by saying, You always did stutter when you were excited. His naming of Brandon and Phillip s faults emphasizes his familiarity with them as younger men, thus further contrasting the linearity of the story with constant nostalgia. Hitchcock s manipulation of linear temporality exaggerates a long term cause and effect relationship that would not be apparent to viewers without Rupert s character spotlighting the past. Viewers learn that Rupert is the source of Brandon s Nietzschean ideas, and Rupert is forced to come to terms with the terrible resulting effects of exposing young people to ... • 9. What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable Maddie Yamona Western Civilization II Mr. Horswell 29 September, 2017 What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the religion back in his times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the relatability it shows in aspects of depression, love, and finding your identity. Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life and the decisions he has made and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use Augustine s Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the way he judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has done and why. Augustine goes through trying to find himself through things of the world and then finally realizes why he can not when he steps back and looks at the fact that he must first find himself in God. Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and this includes the struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close friends and begins to become depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I could not rest, I could not think intelligent. (Augustine. 64). When Augustine becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around people and people can relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to think not time around other people. This review briefs about skin physiology, non melanoma skincancer, relationship between actinic keratosis(AK) and skin cancer, different drugs used in dermal preparations for management of actinic keratosis and novel approaches for targeting drugs to skin neoplasm and actinic keratosis are discussed. Introduction : Development of skin cancer is most commonly seen in Caucasian popoualtion(1) (Bradford PT., 2009).Damage of DNA due to ultraviolet radiations lead to formation of such type of cancer. Actinic keratosis (AK) is also called as Solar keratosis or Senail keratosis. AK severs as a marker for an increase in nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), even in the absence of any specific lesion progression. The risk for progression of AK to invasive SCC with the potential for metastasis provides the rationale for treatment(2) (Ibrahim and Brown, 2009). Early diagnosis should be done for treatment of patients with skin cancer. • 11. The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the blindman. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world. As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. (34) It immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his idea of blindness came from movies. (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression that he feels that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to be jealous of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personally, I think Meryl Streep is a brilliant actress and the way she takes on a character amazes me. She played a sick mothersuffering from Oral Cancer and a heavy drug addiction, Violet Weston. During this movie you encounter love, hate, tragedy, great loss and a lot of anger. Essay On Is Canada A Just Society Canada as a Just Society Canada as a just society has changed a lot throughout the years, Canada has and still is a discriminative place but I believe it has definitely improved but there are still changes that need to be made. However,As said Canada has changed for the better andit has improved a lot since her older days, and not everything will always be perfect, a conflict will always arise and maybe we cannot always solve the problem. Canadian identity has been working towards a just society but it has been negatively affected by how they have treated minorities in World War One, with aboriginals in residential schools, the enactment of the War Measures Act in a time of peace and the continued LGBTQ discrimination. Canada before working towards becoming a just society was a very discriminative place. During the events of World War One,WWI black and Chinese Canadians were prevented from joining the war along with aboriginals. Women were treated the same at the time, it was common for most women to stay at home wives and take care of the children. This was the stereotypical family at the time and was believed to be the ideal family too. Canadians thought poorly of minorities and even claimed it was to keep them safe, the aboriginals were an example, Canadians claimed the enemies might believe that they are savages which was a reflection of how they truly felt. Now more than ever, personal development is key to helping business development in today?s highly competitive and digitalized corporate landscape. Previously, around fifty or so years ago, the corporate landscape was much less competitive?and much less empowering. When an entrepreneur or a business leader wanted to see an increase in results for their company, they simply hired more workers to a single shift to add more units and up productivity, which would then hopefully get the number of results the entrepreneur or business leader was looking for. When a worker was slowing down the whole team?s productivity or progress, or not doing enough to meet the company?s goals set by the entrepreneur and business leader, then all the entrepreneur or business leader would do typically would be to bring them into their office and tell them to do a better job and work harder or find another way of paying the bills ... The Trojan War was a Greek mythological war waged on account of the beautiful Helen, wife of the Spartan king Menelaus, being stolen from Greece by Paris, Prince of Troy. After all, the Bible does tell us that there is a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace (Ecclesiastes 3:8). War is not wrong, but it is wrong if waged for the wrong reasons. Was The Trojan War righteous? The Bible says, Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34). After all, what is righteousness? It is acting in accord with moral or divine law. This is not the kind of divinity defined by the divine gods of ancient Greece, but the divinity that comes from the true Lord. According to His laws, waging a war on account of beautiful woman, is not righteous, or in alignment with moral law. And to consider material gain over the preservation of innocent life is not war for the right intention (righteousness). In a just war, the ultimate goal should be to re establish peace. Consequently, the war must have begun in turmoil, without peace. In this case, however, the war caused strife and turmoil. Before the war, the two countries got along reasonably. During and after the war, there was hatred. Now that is not the result of a just war, or even the goal. In the first place, anyway, there was no consideration of ultimate peace. No, only vanity and material gain were in the mind of the king and the people of Greece. If the authorities of Greece and Troy were putting peace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is the sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a number of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and some are problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If man is lucky enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until death to retain it; if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of the sea (any one of life s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In either case, it is the struggle that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles the sea (life) with grace under pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and encounters a giant marlin (treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks (problems) to save it. The struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the marlin) to the sharks (the problems), he has won the sea battle(life). In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway himself. She describes how they have An hour of of TV class, an hour of basketball or baseball or running, another hour of transcription history or painting, and more sports, but do you know, we never ask questions, or at least most don t; they just run the answers at you, bing, bing, bing, and us sitting there for four more hours of film teacher (29). In this world, the children spend most of their free time killing each for sadistic sport. There is no doubt of the repulsivity of such a world. The final example of the terrifying conditions within Fahrenheit 451 presents itself when Captain Beatty explains to Montag how their society functions. Beatty attempts to achieve this understanding by asking What do we want in this country, above all? People want to be happy, isn t that right? ... Well aren t they? Don t we keep them moving, don t we give them fun? That s all we live for, isn t it? For pleasure, for titillation? And you must admit our culture provides plenty of these (59). • 35. Argument Against Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution Essay Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution to explain the origin, diversity and complexity of life. I will will disprove evolution by showing that natural selection only explains small evolutionary changes, collectively known as microevolution. Natural selection cannot drive large evolutionary changes, macroevolution. I will also show that the primordial soup, in which life supposedly evolved, did not exist. Neo Darwinism incorporates the discoveries of modern science into Darwin s original theory while leaving the basic beliefs intact. Darwin proposed that individuals with favorable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce. Darwin called this process natural selection. Darwin did not understand how or why variation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural selection forces animals and plants to adapt. Microevolution happens, and it has been observed in numerous scientific experiments. The real question is not whether or not microevolution happens. It does, but can microevolution be extended to explain large evolutionary changes? Such changes require new genes. Natural selection only optimizes existing genes: If a gene does not exist, it cannot provide a selective advantage. Natural selection only operates on existing genes. When an existing gene tries to evolve into a new gene, the evolving gene must provide some selective advantage, before natural selection can drive the transition. (The declaration of many evolutionists that natural selection drives the transition every step of the way, implies that the evolving gene must perform its new function before it evolves into the new gene. This is like saying a bird with no wings can fly.) Random chance not natural selection is responsible for the evolution of new genes. Until an evolving gene offers some competitive advantage, natural selection is out of the picture. If evolution is not a viable theory, then why is it generally accepted by modern science and why is it often taught as a proven fact in high school and college? To answer this question, let us take a trip back in time to the late 1800 s. Darwin observed birds on the Galapagos islands over 100 years ago, and the variation that he ... • 37. The French New Wave Cinema French New Wave cinema is widely considered one of the most influential periods in cinematic history. The filmmaking techniques and ideas utilized during the French New Wave period can still be seen in modern cinema, with some films uses them more than others. Two films that more obviously been influenced by the era are Quentin Tarantino s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs and Christopher Nolan s 2000 film Memento. These films exude many traits and styles synonymous with French New Wavecinema such as jump cuts and non continuity editing, a low budget, anti heroic main characters, as well as others. French New Wave was a cinematic movement that was active between the late 1950 s and the late 1960 s though the origins go back to german occupied France from the early 1940 s. Following the liberation of 1944, France saw the end of restrictions of media imposed by german occupation and the cinema became more popular than ever, with a stockpile of banned American films starting to flow in and France ramping up film production once again. Despite this by the early 1950 s it became more popular opinion by both critics and audiences that had become, for a lack of a better word, stale, getting bogged down in an endless cycle of generic historical reconstructions and uninspired literary adaptations... • 55. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Adoption The social issue I have chosen is pet adoption and why people should choose this way of finding an animal companion, as opposed to buying one. This is an issue because across the United States, there is an overpopulation or mistreatment of dogs and cats every day. Animal shelters take in these animals and care for them as much as they can. Animal shelter intakes are anything from those picked up by an animal control, surrendered by owners, or rescued from reports of animal cruelty. In the United States, approximately 5 12 million companion animals enter animal shelters annually and approximately 1 4 million of these are euthanized. The Wood County Humane Society, located in Bowling Green, OH, is one of the several shelters that care for animals in need of help. There are many reasons why so many animals are in need of adoption, the main concerns being: breeding facilities, puppy mills, and strays. The breeders profit at an animal s expense because for every animal bred, an animal in a shelter loses its chance of finding a home. Inbreeding can also cause painful and even life threatening health effects to the animals and while some breeders sell healthy, well treated animals, other breeders may be abusive. Another reason is puppy mills, or commercial dog breeding facilities, in which the health and welfare of the animals are not the main priority. There are an estimated 10,000 mills in the US, producing about 2 million puppies each year. The last main reason is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Creative Development of Robert Schumann Concert program: The creative development of Robert Schumann Introduction One of the unique features of the 19th century composer Robert Schumann s output is the degree to which the verbal mediums of literature (such as poetry and drama) affected his musical output. While many operas have been inspired by great literature, Schumann s expression even in his piano compositions and non verbally oriented musical works show a literary flair. Many of his compositions allude to characters or scenes from poems, novels, and plays; others are like musical crossword puzzles with key signatures or musical themes that refer to people or places important to him (Gifford 2012). Schumann worked as an editor and journalist for a popular musical magazine, the Neue Zeitsfchrift fur Musik, and had a great deal of literary self consciousness about how he constructed his art (Gifford 2012). Ironically, Schumann s operas were not successful and it is his nonverbal piano works that have solidified his reputation for musical greatness. A number of musical critics have noted that there is a distinct break in the tone, style, and structure of Robert Schumann s earlier works with his later output. Characterizations like subjective objective suggest that Schumann s instrumental works of the early 1840s broke cleanly from the music of his past (Brown 2004). His earlier songs of the 1830s are considered to be some of the finest expressions of short, Romantic musical forms. He virtually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Social Location Assignment It is typical of me to preface my reflective assignments with my social location so you, the reader, may better understand my perspective before I begin with the details of the assignment. I do not plan to reflect on aspects of my social location until I analyze my values, deriving from aspects of my upbringing. I was born, and raised, in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Treaty Six, in the early era of 1990 s. In my infancy there were Residential Schools still active and the Sixties Scoop was still in effect (Niessen, 2017, p. 42). I am from a Ukrainian ancestry, my status was middle class, and I was from a nuclear familywith very loving and supportive parents. The values instilled in me by my upbringing has influenced my current job as a Youth Care Worker (YCW) for a residential program for youth in Saskatoon. My responsibilities of this job are to support youth in their holistic health, and most importantly, maintain their safety. The individuals I work with have had traumatic upbringings and are vulnerable to be re traumatized with high risk behaviours. High risk behaviours will be defined in this piece as being drug use, gang affiliation, running, sexual abuse, suicide ideation, and suicidal behaviours. I work with six girls who I perceive as suffering from generational trauma. Like me, these girls are influenced by colonialism, and could be confused about their identity. They will often run from the safety of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe each person has the ability to obtain self actualization and be successful in a purpose for life. • 58. Similarities Between Rome And Carthaginia Rome Carthage were empires separated mainly by the mediterranean. Rome controlling the Italian Peninsula while Carthage controlling the west of the Mediterranean. (Morey, 1901). Depending on different periods; the two empires were similar or different in different ways. At the turn of the 3rd century BCE, Carthagehad a huge trading network compared to Rome, and it had colonies in Africa, Sicily, etc, while Rome just controlled the Italian peninsula. During this period, the Romans had ripped off the model for naval ships from the Carthaginians, so the Roman navy was just a joke to none, while the Carthaginians had a huge navy. (Morey, 1901). However, while the Carthaginians depended mostly on brilliant leaders, the Romans had a rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
