Movie Co Written And Directed By South Korean Director,...
Snowpiercer is a 2013 science fiction thriller movie co written and directed by South Korean director, Bong Joon ho. With
all the battles and intense scenes, the movie is a thriller marvel in itself. However, the movie also has a lot of hidden
political messages which are surreptitiously inscribed in the movie.
The movie is about class conflict and economic inequality, using the train as an analogy. It has different cabins and each one
represents a social class in the real world. The people at the very back are the poorest and live in inhumane conditions. As
you move up the train, the quality of life gets better and better; until you reach the very front of the train, the engine, where
the leader resides. The real life representation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is not reflected in the prices of their products, which are very expensive.
Between the front and the back cabins exist different classes. As we move through different carts, we see the working class,
for example, there is a school with students and a teacher, a chef who makes food for the upper class people. Then, there is a
violinist who serves as an entertainer to different sections of the train. Another section grows plants and vegetation.
Everyone has a function and a job on the train and the society. This is a representation of the working class in the real world.
They live better lives than the poorest people but they still work for the capitalists. The working class is as essential to the
capitalist class as any other class.
Then there is the wealthy class which only parties and does not add to anything in the society. They just happen to waste the
resources of the train. This wealthy class live lavish lives and don t have to worry about the basic necessities live food,
clothes or shelter. Then at the absolute front is the leader who lives lavishly and controls all other people in the train. He is a
capitalist and has invested on this train and in return, gets to rule the train. In the real world, Wilford represents the top 1%
of the population that we hear about. Those are the people who control half of the world s wealth and are the ones who

Printing Is A Process For Reproducing Text And Images
Abstract Printing is a process for reproducing text and images, typically with ink on paper using a print press.3D printing is
method of converting a virtual 3D model into a physical object from a digital file. It is achieved using Additive Process,
where an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created.3D printing could
revolutionize and reshape the world. Advances in 3D printing technology can significantly change and improve the
manufacturing world with effects on energy use, waste reduction ,customization, product availability, medicine, art,
construction and science. By using this technology it becomes easier to transmit designs for new objects around the world.

Introduction The focus of this report would be to assess the marketing activities of SONY Corporation, focusing on one of
its particular product which is the Playstation Portable, which is also known as PSP for short. Although SONY had released
various versions of the PSP, however, our main focus would be on the original version of the PSP and also some emphasis
would be given to PSP Go, to elaborate on the current product that SONY is promoting. Through this analysis, we hope to
discover whether SONY has adopted the appropriate strategies and analytical thinking in their marketing techniques to

There was a total of 236 participants in this survey, 173 of them being female (as shown in Table 1). The survey was
distributed through various social media outlets, including: Facebook, Group Me, Twitter, email, and other online sites. The
survey was intended for University of Pittsburgh undergraduate students, but due to being posted on social media, there is a
possibility our survey was taken by students at other universities. We originally had 313 participants, but 77 were excluded
due to their failure to complete the quality check question, or because they did not fully complete the survey by not giving
us their year in school information. Materials and Procedure
Our survey was created using the Qualtrics survey system. Participants needed access to a smart phone or computer with
internet access to complete the survey. We gave the participants paragraphs about either a sociology major named James or
Jane, or an engineering major named James or Jane. The conditions, which paragraph the student read, were randomly
assigned to them but the questions were identical and in the same order for every participant. After reading the paragraph
they were asked to rate how much they agreed with statements about the student. A 5 point Likert scale was used, where 1
was strongly disagree and 5 was strongly agree. The statements given to the participants were if the student had good work
ethic, was naturally smart, and was going to continue their education post graduation. There was

Project Planning For A Suitable Development Model Essay
2.1.1 PROJECT PLANNING: Project planning consists of the following important activities:  Effort, cost, resource and
project duration estimation.  Risk identification and analysis. An important task performed during the project planning
stage is the selection of a suitable development model. We are developing E à€Șà€°à„€à€•à„à€·à€Ÿ web site which is based on Spiral Model,
because it offers a means of making the development process more visible. Because of the cascade from one phase to
another, this model is known as Spiral Model. It is also known as System Life Cycle. 2.1.1.1 The Spiral Model: Spiral
model is a combination of iterative development process model and sequential linear development model i.e. waterfall
model with very high emphasis on risk analysis. It allows for incremental releases of the product, or incremental refinement
through each iteration around the spiral. The spiral model has four phases. A software project repeatedly passes through
these phases in iterations called Spirals . 1) IDENTIFICATION 2) DESIGN 3) CONSTRUCTOR BUILD 4) EVALUATION
AND RISK ANALYSIS 1) IDENTIFICATION : This phase starts with gathering the business requirements in the baseline
spiral. In the subsequent spirals as the product matures, identification of system requirements, subsystem requirements and
unit requirements are all done in this phase. This also includes understanding the system requirements by continuous
communication between the customer and the system

Deception In Twelfth Night
In the play twelfth night by william Shakespeare the three themes disguise, love, and deception play major roles. It is the
deceptive appearances and deceptive language that allow the characters in the play to make their way, obtain that which they

them to behave in ways they would not under usual circumstances. q q q q q q q q q q q q We find our first display of

The Relationship Between The Kongolese And The Portuguese...
Introduction The Portuguese first made contact with the Kongolese in the 1400s sparking a long and varied relationship
between the two kingdoms. In order to better understand how this relationship played a part in the trade, colonization, and
warfare of this region of Africa, the following paper will discuss the relationship between the Kongolese and the Portuguese
up until the Battle of Mbwila, what occurred at the Battle of Mbwila, and how this battle effectively destroyed the Kingdom
of Kongo in the latter part of the 17th century.
The Kongo Kingdom Portuguese Angola The predecessors of many Angolans moved from different parts of Africa much
sooner than the arrival of the first Portuguese in the late 1400s. By the time of the Portuguese s landing in Africa, the Kongo
Kingdom was already founded in the northwestern part of modern day Angola. The first Portuguese to explore the Congo
River had many intentions. They planned to bring religion, to promote European ideas of civilization, to find and use
resources, and eventually to build up the slave trade. By the mid 1400s, the Kongo Kingdom was the most influential of the
states located along Africa s Atlantic coastline. The kingdom had been founded in the late 1300s by a party of Bakongo,
which is the plural for Kongolese individuals. These Bakongo had ventured south of the Congo River into northwestern
Angola. The Bakongo then defeated the local population and built the capital city of Mbanza Kongo, which translates as

Tay Soon, By Catherine Lim Summary
Passion is defined in the Canadian Oxford High School Dictionary as a strong and barely controllable emotion. The author,
Catherine Lim, develops ideas and concepts about the immense influence of a ruling passion on an individual s life, within
the story she wrote, titled, Paper . The individual s life in which gets effected by a ruling passion is Tay Soon, who has a
dream of building a home of perfection, shaped and decorated consummately with utter flawlessness and superiority.
Fundamental ideas of vast influence that Catherine developed among this topic were evoking change, inspiration, and clout
it has in outcome, through the whole of another s life. Change is a concept of starting at one point, and ending up
somewhere else, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A ruling passion can inspire someone to put their thoughts and/or words into action. Quoted on page 76, Tay Soon secured a
loan from his bank and put twenty thousand in OHT. This situation represented putting thoughts into actions to put effort
towards achieving one s dream because Tay wanted to do it for quite some time, and then finally came about doing it.
Secondly, a different repercussion of inspiration would be for one to continue on dreaming even when things get rough. This
was shown when Tay was upset due to failing to buy a share at nine dollars which a few days later had hit seventeen dollars
(located on page 77), but he continued on trying to achieve his dream, and didn t let that one stock discourage him. Besides
this, a ruling passion can influence an individual s life through inspiring other s to become passionate or take action as well.
Delineated after Dr. Soo bought the Russian Banking shares for four dollars, and turned out to be worth seven the next day,
in which the time came when Tay and Yee became even more passionate towards this and their dream than they were before.
Being a powerful piece reacting from a ruling passion, inspiration can influence an individual`s life in a considerable

The Building Blocks Of Learning
Emily Whitmer Rose Glasser EDTP 201 10/28/16 Ethnography: The Building Blocks of Learning I remember my first day
going to a school to observe. It felt more inquiring, rather than being obligated to go to school just because I had to, like the
state required us to. Ever since I have been given two field placements, I have been increasingly interested in the teaching
profession. My first field placement has been an eye opener for all other rolls in a school. It has showed me just how
important other rolls are in a school, and how they can affect and tie into how a student does in a classroom. Having two
field placements has given me a new outlook on the classroom environment, curriculum, and what goes on behind the
scenes in the teaching profession. In my second field placement, which is what this ethnography will evolve around, I was
placed at Blue Lick Elementary School (right next to Knight Middle School). Blue Lick Elementary School collaborates
with Knight Middle School, to ease the transition to 6th grade. This school is located in Heritage Creek, which is also close
to my first placement, Fairdale High School. The population in this neighborhood is low income. There are 480 students and
the student teacher ratio is 16:1. Blue Lick Elementary School is a public co ed school and accepts grades pre kindergarten
to 5th grade. At Blue Lick Elementary School, 66% of the students are white. The next majority of the students are black,

Synapse Specificity Analysis
Memory formation occurs through LTP. This is due to the fact that LTP is synapse specific. Synapse specificity is the
process of when a synapse is stimulated, only that synapse is affected; neighboring synapses that lie close by remain
unaffected.1 Extending into this topic, CaMKII, an enzyme, was found to play a major role in synapse specificity. The
increase of intracellular calcium from the unblocking of the NMDA type glutamate receptors resulting in the activation of
CaMKII triggers LTP. The broad question that is then addressed in Lee et al s article, Activation of CaMKII in Single
Dendritic Spines during Long Term Potentiation is what makes up the foundation of synapse specificity of LTP and how
does CaMKII affect synapse specificity? To answer the questions previously asked, Lee et al conducted an experiment using
several methods, which include fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), two photon microscopy, photostimulation,
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effect of CaMKII on synapse specificity is controlled by two factors: the rate of CaMKII s inactivation and its mobility.
Starting with the rate of inactivation of CaMKII, the fluorescence lifetime of the GFP, in other words, the activation of
CaMKII, lasted only two minutes. This went along with the observation calcium levels fall back to initial concentrations
within milliseconds. This does not allow calcium to diffuse into neighboring spines and activate CaMKII due to the short
time limit. Because of the fast rate of inactivation of CaMKII, CaMKII is forced to stick to one dendritic spine. Hence why,
the activation of CaMKII follows synaptic specificity. The second factor is mobility of the activation of CaMKII. Using
fluorescence decay, it was concluded that CaMKII had really slow mobility of diffusion out of a dendritic spine. Because
CaMKII can t diffuse out of the spine fast enough, this also confines the activation of CaMKII to one

Advantages Of Traditional Public Administration
New Public Management is an alternative to the traditional public administration . Discuss.
ABSTRACT
The newly elected Government of Mauritius clearly laid down its ambitions regarding Public Administration in the
Government Programme 2015 2019. The public sector will be re organised and reformed to make it more productive,
transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly
crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it
sounded just as the usual rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after
finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad. Instead of staying
idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the government calls to go out for a cleansing
that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech,
2015). The Mauritian government can be said to be moving away from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

emerged in the most advanced countries, as well as in many developing ones, and is regarded by many authors as not a
reform of the traditional Public administration, but a transformation of the public sector and its relationship with

Analysis Of The Article How America Can Free Itself Of...
The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American experts and scientists. In
his article How America Can Free Itself of Oil Profitability, Amory Lovins addresses the many different issues associated
with excessive oil consumption and the risks versus the benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist,
writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute. He has written numerous research articles arguing for
the use of renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other environmentalists
discussing the pros and cons of oil consumption. It is clear that his target audience is the demographic of academics,
scientists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are at the center of our oil
habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1 enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms
this point with many more facts and statistics throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels
as a substitute for oil. He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like
Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy companies.
Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses logos in his arguments.
This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does not necessarily make it a good, well rounded
argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos
in his argument as well. Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the
environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without deviating from his logos
style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have provided statistics on how many

Stereotypes In The Chess Bedroom
This photo seems to me to resemble a chess match occurring in the background while the foreground is of a coach/teacher

man and boy in the foreground, a man in a white shirt who appears to be studying something (a manual, his watch, a
playbook, or notes) that cannot be seen due to the chess table blocking whatever he is looking at, and to his right a
gentleman taking pictures. The gentleman taking pictures appears to look like a journalist or photographer for a newspaper
venue or magazine or even for a chess club organization. He may also be a volunteer taking pictures of the event or
interactions. Additional activities occurring in the background displays more men playing chess (sitting down around the

stereotyping by either intentionally, through the use of Photoshop techniques or unintentionally staging the picture so that no
women are present (Lester, 2014). I think at the time of this picture the stereotypical idea of chess and events that promoted
chess tournaments or games were known to be a male dominated venue. In thinking back I consider how the media portrays

display the gender differentiated leagues. There is still a spotlight on men superiority inside the government within the
United States. It is very known that all the presidents that have served as the President of the United States roll have been a
male and not once has a woman got on the final ballot. In Congress for example, about 21% of congress is made up of
women even though a majority of Americans are women. Even though women are finding more opportunities to find jobs
inside the government, most heads and people with the highest power are usually males. The males dominate all the
branches of government even though the government preaches equality to the United States. In the book, Palmer says under
the Second Tenet the principle goal of ethics is the giving and receiving of care appropriate to specific persons and their
situations (pg. 322). I believe many people inside the United States follow this when it comes to politics with Nancy Pelosi
and Hilary Clinton with having such a wide scale of people who know who they are from past endeavors like Hilary
Clintons husband being Bill Clinton. Females in politics have to be in the right situations to receive care and

Louis Braille is the Man Who Revolutionized the Blind World
Louis Braille: The Man Who Revolutionized the Blind World
Braille is knowledge, and knowledge is power. Louis Braille Knowledge is what makes humans, well, human. We seek out
knowledge like a flower reaches for the sunlight, or like an animals searches for shelter from rain. It is in our nature to
constantly want more knowledge. We drink it up like water. For the entirety of human existence, however, there were those
whose thirsty brains were denied the drink of knowledge. These people were the poor, the enslaved, the unworthy , and the
handicapped. Louis Braille challenged this status quo when he invented Braille, a brilliant system of dots that enabled blind
people to read and write. Although he faced many challenges in his life, Louis Braille revolutionized the way blind people
learn and participate in society with his invention. Louis Braille was born to Simon Rene and Monique Braille on January 4,
1809 in a small French village 25 miles east of Paris called Coupvray. His father was a harness maker and when Louis was
three, he injured his eye while trying to cut a piece of leather with one of his father s tools. His right eye became infected
and it quickly spread to his other eye. By the time he was five Louis was completely blind.
Despite Louis disability, his father taught him the alphabet by guiding his son s hand over nails formed into the shapes of
letters. Once Louis mastered the alphabet, he learned to write. A religious leader of the village, Abbe

Joseph Ellis Founding Brothers
Founding Brothers Founding Brothers is an informative non fiction book written by Joseph J. Ellis. This book was based on
the events that took place after the American Revolution. It discussed about how the lives and relationship of the founding
fathers of this nation influenced and resolved their differences in opinions in shaping the course of this nation. There was
clear explanation in the preface, The Generation, on the author s part of his main intention in writing this book. His main
objective was to delve into the relationship of the most important historical people of the Revolutionary era like Jefferson,
Madison, Washington, Adams and Hamilton to name a few. Ellis instructed his readers to use both the tools of foresight and
hindsight in understanding the events as they unveil themselves as the story progresses. The first chapter ... Show more

This book was written by Ellis to inform the public of what took place after the American s Revolution to Independence.
Ellis wanted to share to the readers that these historical people were humans too who have had some difficulties with
regards to difference in opinions, values and character. They also got hurt and affected on how people were badly
disparaging their character. Take for example George Washington that was character assassinated by Benjamin Franklin
Bache. The press was so harsh and vile at him and used words that were so mean and cruel. These Founding Brothers fought
with each other but they have learned how to compromise and set aside whatever opposing ideas they have for the sake of
the common good of the nation. This book was well written by Ellis because it leads the imagination of the readers on what
was really going on during the debates, campaigns, and inner turmoil of these characters as if the reader was on that same

people pass by the home that once was will never be able to see its clarity, but instead will only be able to see the blur of

Consumer Education Curriculum Analysis
When starting out on this project, I was planning a module for District 95 s consumer education course. The goal was to
bring a blended learning or distance learning opportunity to the students within the District. While planning and designing
this module, many different aspects came up. Who will be implementing this module, how long will it take the learners to
get through the module, how does this module compare to the face to face classroom, how will this module be implemented,
and what will be in place for a backup plan in case the technology component fails. Throughout this paper we will be taking
an in depth look at each of these aspects, in order to give a clear picture of this module. Part A: The Who and How Based on

importantly keep FTE up. Thus, the beginning of planning the module. At this point I, myself am going to be the one who
will be doing them implementation, but if the program takes off, I could end up training others in the Business Education
Department on how to instruct the course. Twelve Days That is correct, 12 days. The traditional summer sessions are
Monday through Thursdays, from 7:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Fridays as a non attendance day. When breaks are removed
that is four hours of instructional time. The idea of distance learning brought up a few areas of discontentment. The first
came from the Business Education Department, how to keep the validity of the unit tests. Even in the face to face classroom,
I have seen students take screenshots of the materials located on Canvas (our learning management software). This reason
alone, is why this module went from being a full distance learning course, to a blended learning course. Blended learning
courses incorporate both online and face to face activities, often require more preparation time outside of the classroom for
students than traditional face to face courses (Margolis, Poter, Pitterle, 2017). Students will be expected to come into the
building for the unit tests after they have completed the online module with all the formative assessments. District 95 offers

Executive Summary The Company Boca Electronics
Executive Summary The company Boca Electronics, is a manufacturer of semiconductor components. Founded in 2002 this
company mains products of production are microprocessors, lighting emitting diodes (LEDs), rectifiers, suppressors. The
company has been doing relatively well financially for the past 4 years but, has recently started to face some issues due to an
economy slowdown and competition from other competitors within the industry. Also, the company has inherited mainframe
system from their parent company which has led to a breakdown in communication amongst departments, increased lead
times and failure to meet large orders in a short time span (Sanders, p. 87 88). When Boca Electronics forecasts sales and
production it is often changed by the time orders have been placed with the suppliers. Issues also emerge because of lack of
sync between the suppliers and the firm due to which product prices cannot be determined. Also, the accounting department
which is responsible for processing invoices usually has to email managers in other departments due to needed alterations
causing a lot of time wasting. Also, the system used by sales department and other departments within the company are not
the same, which leaves them with inaccurate data as one department data is updated and others are not. The main issue for
these problems is an inadequate information system used by the company which has resulted in many of the Boca

overachieving detective I was, I decided to cut through a dark, musty forest to see if I could find clues for a case my

The Struggle In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
False Faces
Writing about the 17th century, Nathaniel Hawthorne used the knowledge of his ancestors to depict influential stories of the
Puritan culture and their ideals. Often noting the hypocrisy of Puritanism, his characters embody the virtues and flaws of the
Puritan people. One of his characters, Young Goodman Brown, experiences a profound disillusionment when he attends the
devil s ceremony in the woods of Salem. During the procession, the devil preaches with a certain superiority, This night it
shall be granted you to know their secret deeds... where crime has been committed, and shall exult to behold the whole earth
one stain of guilt, one mighty blood spot (44). Goodman Brown learns that those whom he had considered as the models of
morality are actually sinners. The devil accentuates the point that not only these people are sinners, ... Show more content on

In Young Goodman Brown and The Minister s Black Veil, multiple characters are obsessed with the sins that others are
hiding. The theme of hiding one s faults and flaws remains prevalent in literature not only pertaining to the Puritans of
American history. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and her husband plot to murder King Duncan. After the crime,
Macbeth assumes power and must speak with Duncan s closest friends in such a way that he will not be accused of the King
s assassination. Conspiring with Lady Macbeth, he says, False face must hide what the false heart doth know (I.vii.92 96).
Macbeth must hide the sins of his heart by displaying a facade. Reverend Hooper presents a facade, however, it is the
opposite. Instead of showing a kind face to cover his sins like Macbeth, he wears a dark veil to cover his typically genial
disposition. The false faces of the world are what cause one to be suspicious and obsess over another s purity. Considering
the texts, the obsession with purity and sin can only result in one s

Advantages and Disadvantages of Arbitration
Arbitration or Litigation?
THE REASONS FOR CHOOSING ARBITRATION OVER LITIGATION
Over the last few decades, as the trade, commerce and investment has developed and evolved in an international aspect
throughout the world, the necessity of an alternative resolution for the disputes arising between the parties involved in
international business has occurred. From that necessity, international arbitration has emerged as a remedy, which is a
method for dispute resolution between states, individuals and corporations providing an effective way of obtaining a final
and binding decision on a dispute without reference to a court of law. With this, the controversial question regarding the
advantages and disadvantages of arbitration over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the privacy of arbitral proceedings, and the confidentiality that surrounds the process, is a powerful
attraction to companies and institutions that may become involved (often against their will) in legal proceedings. In this
respect, as another advantage of arbitration, confidentiality plays an important role in a party s decision to choose arbitration
over litigation, as parties usually desire to keep a dispute and its resolution confidential.
Another advantageous characteristic of arbitration is the continuity of role. In arbitration, the arbitral tribunal deals with
only that specific case subject to the arbitration and follows it from the beginning to the end. With this, the arbitral tribunal
gets the opportunity to know the parties, the case, the pleadings and the evidences.
When all the above mentioned characteristics of arbitration are taken in to consideration, it can be said that, arbitration as a
dispute resolution method is much more advantageous than litigation. With it s characteristics such as neutrality,
enforceability, flexibility, continuity of role and confidentiality, arbitration is a much more effective method as the current
national courts jurisdictions has not sufficient instruments to meet the needs of today s business world.

The Necessary Intellect of Ordinary People
The uneducated are often unaware of how people take advantage of them when under the power of a leader using
propaganda. Propaganda is an opinionated advertisement used to control and appeal to people s judgement and emotions,
and gets them to do what they want (Stults). Not all persuasion is propaganda, and not all propaganda is bad (Stults). George
Orwell writes Animal Farm as an allegorical fable associated with Lenin s lead over the revolution that established the

The pigs train the animals to repeat the phrase so much which makes it impossible for any animals on the farm to think
humans are not evil. The pigs are able to manipulate the animals on the farm using distortion and bad logic because the
animals are quick to believe anything and will trust whatever the pigs say. Propagandists often have to change information
that could disturb their opinions to make it appeal to an audience (Stults). Propaganda will often be illogical if the
propagandist thinks that their ideas are believable (PBS). Because few of the farm animals are highly knowledgeable, the
pigs take the milk from the cows and the windfall apples in Chapter 3 and the other animals barely question them. In fact,
the pigs say it is for the animals own good that they drink the milk and eat the apples because it helps them run the farm and
they actually dislike them (Orwell 36). The animals are foolish and do not argue with Squealer s explanation for drinking
the milk and eating the apples. They are so incredibly lacking in common sense that they do not notice the pigs control of

Firstly, the narrator does not directly reveal Tom s race or appearance in the first page of the text, thus distinguishing the
significance of perception in race relations. He infers it insteads through a brief observation from the colonel s perspective,
following an extensive description of Tom s barber shop and his fellow barbers: The barber was apparently about forty, with

The Suv Automobile Market From 2000-2016
This coursework is going to focus on Chinese SUV automobile market from 2000 2016 as the SUV segment has been one of
the most active consumer markets. In fact, passenger vehicle sales rose by 19% to 1.7 million units in China in 2016 and
sport utility vehicles and multipurpose vehicles climbed 9.5 percent to 10.8 million units in the January June period,
according to the China Passenger Car Association (Bloomberg News, 2016). More recently, the abolition of one child policy
has brought about increasing demand for more spacious vehicles, which provided a tailwind for sales of mid sized SUVs
(ibid). As Leggett (2016) reports, SUV sales in China surged by 40% as the segment gained a tremendous share of the
overall passenger vehicle market 38.8%. Its popularity can be attributed to SUV s unique features and characteristics which
include: high ground clearance, high centre of gravity, high H point, and boxy body design (marketsandmarkets.com, 2015);
also, SUVs provide a safer environment for occupants and drivers due to the higher vehicle mass, less absorbed energy and
resulting instructions in a crash, as officially tested (Margaritis et al, 2015). This coursework is divided into three main parts
including demand and supply sides of the Chinese SUV market respectively and Chinese central government s role in it.

Essay about Nationalism and Ethnic conflict
After Suharto ended his long dictatorial reign in 1998 there was a substantial increase in religious and ethnic conflict in
Indonesia. Author Jacques Bertrand claims religious and ethnic conflict defined Indonesia s national model. This resulted in
three critical junctures during Suharto s retirement of his sovereign rule. The three critical junctures defined Indonesia s
terms of citizenship, and give meaning to the structure and procedures of an institution (Bertrand, 20). When Suharto left as
dictator, major political and social changes consumed Indonesia, which threatened the Indonesian realm. The people of
Indonesia struggled to define their sense of nationalism. The national model of Indonesia was a set of standards on the

Ethnic violence in the late 1990s broke out due to the sudden emergence of a political space to contest this national model.
Bertrand argues that complete legitimacy was not achieved because of the emergence of a narrow ethnic conception of the
nation. Two factors of this were the strife in Kalimantan, and another in the role of Islam in Indonesia s political institutions.
This began to threaten Christian minorities in Indonesia. These conïŹ‚icts between Muslims and Christians situate the
violence in Maluku in relation to the evolving role of Islam in Indonesia s national model. Indonesia complained of their

The Benefits Of Going To A Community College
According to Jenkins and Fink, the writers for the Community College Research Center, an average of 38% of community
colleges students transfer to a 4 year college and 42% of the students complete a bachelor s degree within the next 6 years.
Going to a community college is very beneficial and affordable to children with high or low income. While I am taking
Economics my teacher broke down the concepts and benefits of going to a community college versus a university. For
example, going to Moraine Valley Community College is about $3,570 a year for their tuition, while the University of
Illinois is around $15,686 in tution. If you go to Moraine Valley Community College for 2 years you will only be paying
about $7,140 versus going to the University of Illinois for 2 years and paying $31,372 Your saving $24,232 dollars if you go
to a 2 year college versus going the whole 4 years. If people are struggling financially this can be a financial advantage.
Some junior colleges cost less than two thousand dollars each semester for students who attend full time and it gives
students some time to prepare for a 4 year university if they plan on taking their education further. Going to a community
college helps students to set goals and aspects for their future career they want to pursue to transfer to a university. So why
doesn t Joliet West counselors promote the idea of going to a community college?

The Role Of The Greek Gods In The Odyssey
Lindsey Knight
4/11/17
Before I read the Odyssey, my views on the Greek Gods was a bunch of powerful immortals who watched the world play
out in front of them like a game of parcheesi. But now I know that the people around the time of the Trojan War, the gods
were believed to cheat, move their pieces more than the dice said, take out an opponent s piece when they weren t supposed
to. Odysseus was a piece on the gameboard, and all he wanted to do was get home, but the odds were not always in his
favor. Or should I say, the gods.
In Greek times, gods were created to have a reason for why things happen on Earth, like rain, sun, and lightning. Of course,
we now have scientific evidence of why these things happen, but the gods are still important to our learning today. One
reason mythology is important is it debates between the good and evil in men (reference.com). Throughout the Odyssey, we
see the conflict between the kind, family man of Odysseus and the grueling, vicious, tough man, fighting for his way home.
Of course, it was not smooth sailing, but it could have been smoother with or without the help of the gods.

characters contrast and these contrasts clearly illustrate the difference the characters have in class.
Marriage, the central part of the lives of the main characters, is viewed in opposing ways through their actions. Susan s,

For example, he frequently tells women that he is part Aztec because: Strangely enough, there were aphrodisiacal benefits to
claiming to be descended from ritual cannibals. In any event, pretending to be an Aztec warrior was a lot more impressive
than revealing I was just some bright kid who d fought his way off the Spokane Indian Reservation (587). Even when he is
claiming his roots, he is secretly ashamed of them. Despite his mixed feelings about being Indian, Edgar tries to perpetuate a
positive image of the modern American Indian man. He wears his hair in long, black braids as a symbol of his heritage, and
tells people that his name is Edgar Eagle Runner, instead of Edgar Joseph like his license says. Edgar also refrains from
drinking massive amounts of alcohol because he does not want to maintain and confirm any of my ethnic stereotypes, let
alone the most prevalent one (591). However, after realizing that his wife has been faking her orgasms for at least a year,
Edgar abruptly leaves his marriage bed and goes to a local Indian bar to have a drink. It is at this bar that the contrast in
class is made, as the title of the story suggests.
Edgar chooses to go to an Indian owned bar Chuck s to have his drink. As he sits at the bar and orders his glass of water, the
bartender asks him What the fuck would you like to drink (591), and he says that was surprised

Issues In America Today Essay
When it comes to entrusting someone with fostering a discussion on the issues the nation is currently facing, Americans aren
t so sure who would be best for the task, according to a new study released by LifeWay Research. The study, conducted on
1,000 individuals randomly chosen between September 27 and October 1, asked participants, In America today, who is in
the best position to generate a healthy conversation on challenges facing our society? Out of a slew of choices including
pastors, the President, members of Congress, the media, and university professors, the choice with the highest number of
votes was none of these (33 percent). The second most popular choice was our elected President, which received 23 percent
of the votes. About 11 percent of survey respondents said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We know we have problems and that we should talk about them. But there s no one who can bring us all together. Out of the
various ethnic groups, black, non hispanic survey participants were most likely to select pastors of local churches (21
percent), while out of the religious groups, Christians were most likely to select the same (16 percent). Those between the
ages of 55 and 64 were most likely to select pastors of local churches (17 percent) among the age groups. Some 10 percent
of those 65 and older selected the same, while 7 percent of those 18 to 24 and 6 percent of those 25 to 34 said the same.
Younger survey participants were more likely to vote for members of the media (12 percent of those 18 to 24, 13 percent of
those 25 to 34) as opposed to those who were older (3 percent of those 65 and older, 5 percent of those 45 to 54). Younger
participants were also more likely to choose university professors (18 percent of those 18 to 24). However, only 7 percent of
those between 25 to 34 chose professors, while 14 percent of those between 35 to 44 did the

L euthanasie
Sujet divisé : Il y a plusieurs

Comprehensive Peer Evaluation Paper
2012 Comprehensive Peer Evaluation
The comprehensive peer evaluation of Dixie State was conducted in October 2012. The size and scope of this evaluation
required nine evaluators who worked on campus for a three day period (VanderStaay et al., 2012, pp. 1 4). Steven L.
VanderStaay, who then served as the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Western Washington University in
Bellingham, Washington, chaired the evaluation committee. Joining VanderStaay were eight academics from universities in
Idaho, Montana, and Washington (VanderStaay et al., p. 4; see Appendix C). Besides the evaluation, the committee listed 49
persons whom they interviewed in the course of the evaluation (Appendix D). They also conducted open meetings in which
150 persons were involved, although the names of these individuals were not recorded. Some of the major interviewees
included the college president, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subcommittee reports were then brought back to the full committee, which produced a final report. This final twenty four
page report was submitted to the SPC and NWCCU in September 2013.. An addendum was included with the report that
presented the Substantive Change Proposal for University Status (Bryant, table of contents).
Year One Peer Evaluation Report
The peer evaluation report was prepared and submitted in October 2013 (Divine McFarlane, cover). Peer evaluator
procedure required that any conflicts of interest (whether substantive or in appearance) be assiduously avoided
(Accreditation Handbook, p. 15). The evaluators assessed the same themes as the peer evaluation but does it from a position
off campus (Accreditation Handbook, p. 15). Chosen to serve as peer evaluators were Darren Divine of the College of
Southern Nevada, Las Vegas and Michael McFarlane of Elko, Nevada s Great Basic College (Divine McFarlane,

Henry Mosely Research Paper
Henry Mosely was born in November 23, 1887 in Weymouth, Dorset, England. His father, also Henry, was a professor of
anatomy and physiology. His mother was Amabel, a daughter of a barrister but then changed careers to become a mollusc
biologist. Moseley s first school was Summer Fields School, and elementary school. He won a scholarship for Eton College,
the most prestigious high school in Britain. He thought the college s physics lessons were too easy and so, worked on
subjects independently. He won Eton s physics and chemistry awards when he was 18, and was admitted in 1906 to the
University of Oxford s Trinity College to study physics. Due to a hayfever, he only got second class honor degree during the
final exam. He then moved to the University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He moved back to Oxford in 1913. Even when Rutherford offered him a new fellowship at Manchester on better terms,
Moseley declined. He decided the best path would be to get experience from different laboratories. He put together
experimental apparatus to shoot high energy electrons at different chemical elements and measure the wavelength and
frequencies of the resulting X rays. The X rays, he noticed, was different for each element. If he plotted the square root of X
ray frequency against elements atomic numbers, he would get a straight line, which had confirmed Broek s hypothesis. He
realized that the element s atomic number is the same as the number of protons that element has. He states that the
difference between elements are the number of protons that have, and the number of protons define what element the atom
is. Moseley arranged a periodic table of elements but had made too many scientists uncomfortable. As a result, the table was
forgotten. He had predicted the existence of four undiscovered elements that contained with 43, 61, 72, and 75 protons when
he had noticed the gaps in his table of elements. He also concluded that there were only 92 elements, including uranium and

Psychology Personal Statement Essay
Of all the A Levels I study, psychology is definitely the most relevant to day to day life; it raises questions related to various
aspects of our lives and demonstrates how open minded we must be in order to gain higher levels of understanding in terms
of behaviours and mental conditions. Having looked into various career options I have decided I would most enjoy a career
in the avenue of psychology. At the moment I am leaning towards clinical psychology however, I also have interest in
counselling psychologies and music therapy. These career options I believe utilise my skills in listening to others and
rationalising their views. I further developed these skills in high school when I earned a Level 1 certificate in Understanding
Young People as a Peer Mentor , this course encouraged me to develop such skills and motivated me to ... Show more

At the moment I am reading a book called The Man Who Couldn t Stop by David Adam, it s about how OCD affects a
person s life and explains how though we all have ego syntonic thoughts from time to time, constantly living with ego
dystonic thoughts and using rituals to temporarily remove them is so much harder as it affects even a task considered normal
. I have also watched various documentaries like Extreme OCD Camp , How Crazy am I? and Thin , as well as having read
fictional psychological books, through these I have been able to evaluate how people with mental illnesses become
stigmatised due to the label of their illness, however, without that label people can often seem normal . Particularly through
the documentaries I have seen how difficult overcoming a mental illness is especially without a high level of motivation. I
greatly see the value of not only helping people overcome related issues but allowing them to feel like the valued and
respected member of society that they are; I believe we all deserve the chance to

Drug Experiment
A.
Drug A: After the cells are exposed to drug A, an increase in the amount of cyclic AMP is seen on the diagram. Since A
increased the amount of cAMP above the basal level, A is an agonist. In this particular experiment, we do not see an agonist
that leads to a higher increase in activity; we can thus assume that A is a full agonist.
Drug B: When the cells were exposed to drug B at two different concentrations (10uM and 10 ”M), no change in activity
was noticed and it was equal to basal activity. This clearly signals that B is an antagonist. Then we examine the effect of
drug B when used in combination with drug A. The amount of cyclic AMP has decreased as the concentration of drug B
increased from 10 uM to 10 ”M while the concentration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, drug D in combination with drug A does produce a lower activity than drug A alone, but this change is not
concentration dependent (higher concentration of B does not lead to a decrease in activity). One way to explain this decrease
is that drug D is a partial agonist. Partial agonists act as competitive antagonists in the presence of a full agonist (drug A in
our case), depressing its ability to achieve the maximum possible effect.
Alternatively, drug D could indeed be a competitive antagonist; we know that the parallel shift depends only on the Ka, the
dissociation constant for an antagonist and [A], the concentration of the antagonist. The fact that the activity readings are
equal at two different concentrations of Drug D (and thus no shift in the effect curve) could thus be explained by a very
large dissociation constant. Mathematically, this scenario would lead to a ratio of [A] to Ka being close to zero for both drug
D concentrations, eliminating the shift in effect curve and showing the same activity for both concentrations.
Drug E: The data shows the decrease in basal signaling when the cells are exposed to drug E. Thus, we could assume that
drug E is a inverse agonist. However, there is an alternative scenario where drug E is interfering with an endogenous agonist
and leads to a decrease in background activity. (a)
From the analysis above, we concluded that drugs B and C are competitive antagonists. Although to compare

Selection of an Appropriate Investment Plan
Investments the company will engage will consist only of investments with high moral and ethical character. The
management, after a thorough investigation of their background and subsequent accolades should be of the highest standard
of integrity. Any form of misconduct or misdeeds in the recent past will disqualify the company from investment. Through
social investments, the company can increase resources dedicated to the overall socially conscious initiative and create ways
by which the same money can be reinvested over and over again. Below are three categories which should help in assisting
the selection of socially responsible investments. Program related investments: Investments that support charitable purposes
aligned with the company s mission statement. Program related investments form many companies are generally structured
as loans, loan guarantees, or equity investments. Mission related deposits: Deposits made to federally insured depository
institutions including traditional banks, community development financial institutions, and credit unions. This is similar in
concept to basic consumer banking of check and savings accounts. These deposits are used primarily for socially conscious
issues that require immediate funding. They are generally structured as insured certificates of deposit or share certificates.
Mission related investments: Investments that are intended to generate market rates of return but have a social benefit as
well. Every recession

The Debate Over the Morality of the Death Penalty Essay
Senator for Utah Orrin Hatch once said, Capital punishment is our society s recognition of the sanctity of human life,
(Brainy Quote). While the arguments for both sides of the debate over the morality of the death penalty are vast, the bottom
line is that the death penalty does not disregard human life, but rather it reveres it, as Hatch said. Morality is defined as, The
quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct, (The Free Dictionary). One who seeks to protect a person
who has committed a heinous crime such as murder is arguably not in accords with what is right and wrong. Therefore,
although killing is generally accepted as being wrong, the death penalty is sometimes the only solution to bring justice to a

Though electrocution, hanging, and being shot at by a firing squad would seem to have instant results, it is possible for the
person to suffer immensely if they are initially done wrong, for example, if the shocks are not strong enough the first time, if
the noose is not placed correctly, or if the heart is not struck in the first round of shooting. As a result, the person may have
to endure multiple jolts of shock, suffocate gradually, or slowly bleed to death (DPIC). As for the gas chamber,
unconsciousness does not occur immediately and, According to former San Quentin, California, Penitentiary warden,
Clifton Duffy, At first there is evidence of extreme horror, pain, and strangling, (DPIC). Another argument is that taking
another life will not avenge the victim s family, as it will not bring their loved one back, and Gandhi s famous saying, An
eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, applies as well. Finally, anti death penalty advocates may say that it is wrong to
kill a mentally ill person, as it is widely believed that anyone who would commit a crime worthy of the death penalty must
have some kind of disorder, because they are not fully in control of what they are doing and they are suffering too. At the
end of the day, adversaries of capital punishment believe that all life is sacred, including that of severe criminals, and it
should be preserved regardless of the circumstance.

  • 4. Movie Co Written And Directed By South Korean Director,... Snowpiercer is a 2013 science fiction thriller movie co written and directed by South Korean director, Bong Joon ho. With all the battles and intense scenes, the movie is a thriller marvel in itself. However, the movie also has a lot of hidden political messages which are surreptitiously inscribed in the movie. The movie is about class conflict and economic inequality, using the train as an analogy. It has different cabins and each one represents a social class in the real world. The people at the very back are the poorest and live in inhumane conditions. As you move up the train, the quality of life gets better and better; until you reach the very front of the train, the engine, where the leader resides. The real life representation of ... As we move through different carts, we see the working class, for example, there is a school with students and a teacher, a chef who makes food for the upper class people. Then, there is a violinist who serves as an entertainer to different sections of the train. Another section grows plants and vegetation. Everyone has a function and a job on the train and the society. This is a representation of the working class in the real world. They live better lives than the poorest people but they still work for the capitalists. The working class is as essential to the capitalist class as any other class. Then there is the wealthy class which only parties and does not add to anything in the society. They just happen to waste the resources of the train. This wealthy class live lavish lives and don t have to worry about the basic necessities live food, clothes or shelter. Then at the absolute front is the leader who lives lavishly and controls all other people in the train. He is a capitalist and has invested on this train and in return, gets to rule the train. In the real world, Wilford represents the top 1% of the population that we hear about. Those are the people who control half of the world s wealth and are the ones who basically decide how ... We gave the participants paragraphs about either a sociology major named James or Jane, or an engineering major named James or Jane. The conditions, which paragraph the student read, were randomly assigned to them but the questions were identical and in the same order for every participant. After reading the paragraph they were asked to rate how much they agreed with statements about the student. A 5 point Likert scale was used, where 1 was strongly disagree and 5 was strongly agree. It allows for incremental releases of the product, or incremental refinement through each iteration around the spiral. The spiral model has four phases. A software project repeatedly passes through these phases in iterations called Spirals . 1) IDENTIFICATION 2) DESIGN 3) CONSTRUCTOR BUILD 4) EVALUATION AND RISK ANALYSIS 1) IDENTIFICATION : This phase starts with gathering the business requirements in the baseline spiral. • 11. The Relationship Between The Kongolese And The Portuguese... Introduction The Portuguese first made contact with the Kongolese in the 1400s sparking a long and varied relationship between the two kingdoms. In order to better understand how this relationship played a part in the trade, colonization, and warfare of this region of Africa, the following paper will discuss the relationship between the Kongolese and the Portuguese up until the Battle of Mbwila, what occurred at the Battle of Mbwila, and how this battle effectively destroyed the Kingdom of Kongo in the latter part of the 17th century. The Kongo Kingdom Portuguese Angola The predecessors of many Angolans moved from different parts of Africa much sooner than the arrival of the first Portuguese in the late 1400s. By the time of the Portuguese s landing in Africa, the Kongo Kingdom was already founded in the northwestern part of modern day Angola. The first Portuguese to explore the Congo River had many intentions. They planned to bring religion, to promote European ideas of civilization, to find and use resources, and eventually to build up the slave trade. By the mid 1400s, the Kongo Kingdom was the most influential of the states located along Africa s Atlantic coastline. The kingdom had been founded in the late 1300s by a party of Bakongo, which is the plural for Kongolese individuals. These Bakongo had ventured south of the Congo River into northwestern Angola. • 12. Tay Soon, By Catherine Lim Summary Passion is defined in the Canadian Oxford High School Dictionary as a strong and barely controllable emotion. The author, Catherine Lim, develops ideas and concepts about the immense influence of a ruling passion on an individual s life, within the story she wrote, titled, Paper . The individual s life in which gets effected by a ruling passion is Tay Soon, who has a dream of building a home of perfection, shaped and decorated consummately with utter flawlessness and superiority. Fundamental ideas of vast influence that Catherine developed among this topic were evoking change, inspiration, and clout it has in outcome, through the whole of another s life. A ruling passion can inspire someone to put their thoughts and/or words into action. Quoted on page 76, Tay Soon secured a loan from his bank and put twenty thousand in OHT. This situation represented putting thoughts into actions to put effort towards achieving one s dream because Tay wanted to do it for quite some time, and then finally came about doing it. Secondly, a different repercussion of inspiration would be for one to continue on dreaming even when things get rough. This was shown when Tay was upset due to failing to buy a share at nine dollars which a few days later had hit seventeen dollars (located on page 77), but he continued on trying to achieve his dream, and didn t let that one stock discourage him. Besides this, a ruling passion can influence an individual s life through inspiring other s to become passionate or take action as well. Delineated after Dr. Soo bought the Russian Banking shares for four dollars, and turned out to be worth seven the next day, in which the time came when Tay and Yee became even more passionate towards this and their dream than they were before. • 13. The Building Blocks Of Learning Emily Whitmer Rose Glasser EDTP 201 10/28/16 Ethnography: The Building Blocks of Learning I remember my first day going to a school to observe. It felt more inquiring, rather than being obligated to go to school just because I had to, like the state required us to. Ever since I have been given two field placements, I have been increasingly interested in the teaching profession. My first field placement has been an eye opener for all other rolls in a school. It has showed me just how important other rolls are in a school, and how they can affect and tie into how a student does in a classroom. Having two field placements has given me a new outlook on the classroom environment, curriculum, and what goes on behind the scenes in the teaching profession. In my second field placement, which is what this ethnography will evolve around, I was placed at Blue Lick Elementary School (right next to Knight Middle School). Blue Lick Elementary School collaborates with Knight Middle School, to ease the transition to 6th grade. This school is located in Heritage Creek, which is also close to my first placement, Fairdale High School. The population in this neighborhood is low income. There are 480 students and the student teacher ratio is 16:1. Blue Lick Elementary School is a public co ed school and accepts grades pre kindergarten to 5th grade. • 17. Synapse Specificity Analysis Memory formation occurs through LTP. This is due to the fact that LTP is synapse specific. Synapse specificity is the process of when a synapse is stimulated, only that synapse is affected; neighboring synapses that lie close by remain unaffected.1 Extending into this topic, CaMKII, an enzyme, was found to play a major role in synapse specificity. The increase of intracellular calcium from the unblocking of the NMDA type glutamate receptors resulting in the activation of CaMKII triggers LTP. The broad question that is then addressed in Lee et al s article, Activation of CaMKII in Single Dendritic Spines during Long Term Potentiation is what makes up the foundation of synapse specificity of LTP and how does CaMKII affect synapse specificity? To answer the questions previously asked, Lee et al conducted an experiment using several methods, which include fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), two photon microscopy, photostimulation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effect of CaMKII on synapse specificity is controlled by two factors: the rate of CaMKII s inactivation and its mobility. Starting with the rate of inactivation of CaMKII, the fluorescence lifetime of the GFP, in other words, the activation of CaMKII, lasted only two minutes. This went along with the observation calcium levels fall back to initial concentrations within milliseconds. This does not allow calcium to diffuse into neighboring spines and activate CaMKII due to the short time limit. Because of the fast rate of inactivation of CaMKII, CaMKII is forced to stick to one dendritic spine. Hence why, the activation of CaMKII follows synaptic specificity. The second factor is mobility of the activation of CaMKII. Using fluorescence decay, it was concluded that CaMKII had really slow mobility of diffusion out of a dendritic spine. Because CaMKII can t diffuse out of the spine fast enough, this also confines the activation of CaMKII to one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The public sector will be re organised and reformed to make it more productive, transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it sounded just as the usual rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad. Instead of staying idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the government calls to go out for a cleansing that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech, 2015). Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute. In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1 enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil. He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy companies. Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well. Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without deviating from his logos style of writing. Louis Braille Knowledge is what makes humans, well, human. We seek out knowledge like a flower reaches for the sunlight, or like an animals searches for shelter from rain. It is in our nature to constantly want more knowledge. We drink it up like water. For the entirety of human existence, however, there were those whose thirsty brains were denied the drink of knowledge. These people were the poor, the enslaved, the unworthy , and the handicapped. Louis Braille challenged this status quo when he invented Braille, a brilliant system of dots that enabled blind people to read and write. Although he faced many challenges in his life, Louis Braille revolutionized the way blind people learn and participate in society with his invention. Louis Braille was born to Simon Rene and Monique Braille on January 4, 1809 in a small French village 25 miles east of Paris called Coupvray. His father was a harness maker and when Louis was three, he injured his eye while trying to cut a piece of leather with one of his father s tools. Another advantageous characteristic of arbitration is the continuity of role. In arbitration, the arbitral tribunal deals with only that specific case subject to the arbitration and follows it from the beginning to the end. With this, the arbitral tribunal gets the opportunity to know the parties, the case, the pleadings and the evidences. When Suharto left as dictator, major political and social changes consumed Indonesia, which threatened the Indonesian realm. The people of Indonesia struggled to define their sense of nationalism. Ethnic violence in the late 1990s broke out due to the sudden emergence of a political space to contest this national model. Bertrand argues that complete legitimacy was not achieved because of the emergence of a narrow ethnic conception of the nation. Two factors of this were the strife in Kalimantan, and another in the role of Islam in Indonesia s political institutions. This began to threaten Christian minorities in Indonesia. These conïŹ‚icts between Muslims and Christians situate the violence in Maluku in relation to the evolving role of Islam in Indonesia s national model. Indonesia complained of their lack of autonomy In regions such as Maluku or other areas of Eastern Indonesia, a low capacity for generating local revenue restricted the ability to adapt projects and development to local conditions (Bertrand, 198).). The scanty amounts of funds were unable to support the poor and other problems. Bertrand states, Faced with the New Order regime introduced mild reforms that were designed to address some technical issues while avoiding political decentralization (Bertrand, 198). In 1995 the Minister of Home Affairs selected 26 districts were used to evaluate the measures designed to increase autonomy. • 39. The Benefits Of Going To A Community College According to Jenkins and Fink, the writers for the Community College Research Center, an average of 38% of community colleges students transfer to a 4 year college and 42% of the students complete a bachelor s degree within the next 6 years. Going to a community college is very beneficial and affordable to children with high or low income. While I am taking Economics my teacher broke down the concepts and benefits of going to a community college versus a university. For example, going to Moraine Valley Community College is about $3,570 a year for their tuition, while the University of Illinois is around $15,686 in tution. If you go to Moraine Valley Community College for 2 years you will only be paying about $7,140 versus going to the University of Illinois for 2 years and paying $31,372 Your saving $24,232 dollars if you go to a 2 year college versus going the whole 4 years. If people are struggling financially this can be a financial advantage. Some junior colleges cost less than two thousand dollars each semester for students who attend full time and it gives students some time to prepare for a 4 year university if they plan on taking their education further. Going to a community college helps students to set goals and aspects for their future career they want to pursue to transfer to a university. So why doesn t Joliet West counselors promote the idea of going to a community college? Audience: Students who may not know much about going to a community college may think ... • 40. The Role Of The Greek Gods In The Odyssey Lindsey Knight 4/11/17 Before I read the Odyssey, my views on the Greek Gods was a bunch of powerful immortals who watched the world play out in front of them like a game of parcheesi. But now I know that the people around the time of the Trojan War, the gods were believed to cheat, move their pieces more than the dice said, take out an opponent s piece when they weren t supposed to. Odysseus was a piece on the gameboard, and all he wanted to do was get home, but the odds were not always in his favor. Or should I say, the gods. In Greek times, gods were created to have a reason for why things happen on Earth, like rain, sun, and lightning. Of course, we now have scientific evidence of why these things happen, but the gods are still important to our learning today. One reason mythology is important is it debates between the good and evil in men (reference.com). Throughout the Odyssey, we see the conflict between the kind, family man of Odysseus and the grueling, vicious, tough man, fighting for his way home. Of course, it was not smooth sailing, but it could have been smoother with or without the help of the gods. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, and she chose to help Odysseus get home to Ithaca. The short story Class by Sherman Alexie tells of the struggles of an American Indian man and tries to demonstrate how he reacts to his contrasted feelings and diverse world around him. The actions, emotions and even the language of the characters contrast and these contrasts clearly illustrate the difference the characters have in class. Even when he is claiming his roots, he is secretly ashamed of them. Despite his mixed feelings about being Indian, Edgar tries to perpetuate a positive image of the modern American Indian man. He wears his hair in long, black braids as a symbol of his heritage, and tells people that his name is Edgar Eagle Runner, instead of Edgar Joseph like his license says. Edgar also refrains from drinking massive amounts of alcohol because he does not want to maintain and confirm any of my ethnic stereotypes, let alone the most prevalent one (591). However, after realizing that his wife has been faking her orgasms for at least a year, Edgar abruptly leaves his marriage bed and goes to a local Indian bar to have a drink. It is at this bar that the contrast in class is made, as the title of the story suggests. Edgar chooses to go to an Indian owned bar Chuck s to have his drink. Even when Rutherford offered him a new fellowship at Manchester on better terms, Moseley declined. He decided the best path would be to get experience from different laboratories. He put together experimental apparatus to shoot high energy electrons at different chemical elements and measure the wavelength and frequencies of the resulting X rays. The X rays, he noticed, was different for each element. If he plotted the square root of X ray frequency against elements atomic numbers, he would get a straight line, which had confirmed Broek s hypothesis. He realized that the element s atomic number is the same as the number of protons that element has. He states that the difference between elements are the number of protons that have, and the number of protons define what element the atom is. Moseley arranged a periodic table of elements but had made too many scientists uncomfortable. As a result, the table was forgotten. He had predicted the existence of four undiscovered elements that contained with 43, 61, 72, and 75 protons when he had noticed the gaps in his table of elements. • 47. Drug Experiment A. Drug A: After the cells are exposed to drug A, an increase in the amount of cyclic AMP is seen on the diagram. Since A increased the amount of cAMP above the basal level, A is an agonist. In this particular experiment, we do not see an agonist that leads to a higher increase in activity; we can thus assume that A is a full agonist. Drug B: When the cells were exposed to drug B at two different concentrations (10uM and 10 ”M), no change in activity was noticed and it was equal to basal activity. This clearly signals that B is an antagonist. Then we examine the effect of drug B when used in combination with drug A. The amount of cyclic AMP has decreased as the concentration of drug B increased from 10 uM to 10 ”M while the concentration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, drug D in combination with drug A does produce a lower activity than drug A alone, but this change is not concentration dependent (higher concentration of B does not lead to a decrease in activity). One way to explain this decrease is that drug D is a partial agonist. Partial agonists act as competitive antagonists in the presence of a full agonist (drug A in our case), depressing its ability to achieve the maximum possible effect. Alternatively, drug D could indeed be a competitive antagonist; we know that the parallel shift depends only on the Ka, the dissociation constant for an antagonist and [A], the concentration of the antagonist. The fact that the activity readings are equal at two different concentrations of Drug D (and thus no shift in the effect curve) could thus be explained by a very large dissociation constant. Mathematically, this scenario would lead to a ratio of [A] to Ka being close to zero for both drug D concentrations, eliminating the shift in effect curve and showing the same activity for both concentrations. Drug E: The data shows the decrease in basal signaling when the cells are exposed to drug E. Thus, we could assume that drug E is a inverse agonist. However, there is an alternative scenario where drug E is interfering with an endogenous agonist and leads to a decrease in background activity. (a) From the analysis above, we concluded that drugs B and C are competitive antagonists. Although to compare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the arguments for both sides of the debate over the morality of the death penalty are vast, the bottom line is that the death penalty does not disregard human life, but rather it reveres it, as Hatch said. Morality is defined as, The quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct, (The Free Dictionary). One who seeks to protect a person who has committed a heinous crime such as murder is arguably not in accords with what is right and wrong. As a result, the person may have to endure multiple jolts of shock, suffocate gradually, or slowly bleed to death (DPIC).
