Before I read the Odyssey, my views on the Greek Gods was a bunch of powerful immortals who watched the world play
out in front of them like a game of parcheesi. But now I know that the people around the time of the Trojan War, the gods
were believed to cheat, move their pieces more than the dice said, take out an opponent s piece when they weren t supposed
to. Odysseus was a piece on the gameboard, and all he wanted to do was get home, but the odds were not always in his
favor. Or should I say, the gods.
In Greek times, gods were created to have a reason for why things happen on Earth, like rain, sun, and lightning. Of course,
we now have scientific evidence of why these things happen, but the gods are still important to our learning today. One
