ARCTIC FOXES
ARCTIC FOXES CHARACTERISTICS
Arctic foxes have several adaptations that
allow them to survive. Arctic foxes change
the color of their fur with the seasons. They
are mammals. Lemmings are the usual food
for Arctic foxes. There round, compact bodies
minimize surface area that is exposed to the
cold air.
HABITAT

They live in the Arctic tundra, Alaska,
Canada, Greenland, Russia, Norway,
Scandinavian and even Iceland where it is
the only native land mammal. The tundra is
not an easy place to live in.
WHY IS IT ENDANGERED?

• People hunt them for their fur. The Arctic fox is
losing ground to the larger Red.
What People Are Doing To Help?
• People are using bikes in stead of cars so there
is less gas in the air and the earth will stay
colder. They are passing laws to protect Arctic
  foxes.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ARCTIC FOXES

Arctic foxes usually have between 5-9 pups. Arctic
foxes usually mate for life, and both mother and
father help raise the pups. Mating season for arctic
foxes usually lasts from early September to early
May. They have incredible hearing. When the
arctic fox hears it’s next meal under the snow-
pack, it leaps into the air and pounces, breaking
through the layer of snow right onto the pray
beneath.
