Description of WEMTA Battle of the Books

1. Battle of the Books!

2. Do you want to battle?
• Are you in 4th or 5th grade?
• Do you love to read?
• Do you enjoy working on a team?
• Are you willing to meet once a week, every
week?
If you answered yes, then you are a perfect
“Battle Participant”!

3. What do you need to do?
• Fill out the registration form.
• Have your parents sign the form.
• Get the reading list of the required books.
• Read. Read. Read.
• Come to weekly meetings.
• Do great on answering questions about the
books that you read.
• Have fun!

4. When will you meet?
• Day 5 at lunch time.
• 4th graders will meet in Mr. Podeweltz’s room
and 5th graders in the pit with Mrs. D.
• Listen to morning announcements to make
sure of any changes in the schedule.

5. What should you bring to the
meetings?
• Your lunch
• A question to ask your teammates about one
of the books you read
• Good manners and appropriate behavior.

6. Battle tips…
• Make sure you talk with your teammates about the
books you are reading.
• Check out the Teaching Books link! It will help you
really get to know your books.
• Check out summaries of books, discussion questions,
and information about authors.
• Don't forget to practice matching the TITLES and
AUTHORS. For the battle you will need to select the
title from one list, and the author from another.
• You can also listen to recordings of books being read!
• Watch for practice quizzes in January!
