This document summarizes SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) improvements made by MD Engineers, a sheet metal company in Vadodara, India. They developed a lever idling system that reduces die change time from 20 seconds to 5 seconds per stroke. This increases production from 1305 to 5220 components in an 8 hour shift, a major increase in efficiency and output.

• Step 1-Take the lever out .

• Step 2 - Take the Key and insert inside the bolt
of the punch which we want to make the idle.

• Step 3 - Loose the bolt that punch with the
key.

• Step 4 - Lift the punch and now the tight the
bolt and put the lever back.

7. Analysis of old die
• On old die
• 1 stroke = 1.2 sec
• 16 stroke = 20 sec (approx)
• So for calculation for 1 min = 3 component
• 60 min = 180 component
We start with 8 hours:
• 8 hours x 60 minutes = 480 total minutes
• 480 – 45 = 435
• Total minutes = 435 min
• Production for 435 min = 1305 components

8. Analysis of new die
• 1 stroke = 1.2 sec
• 4 stroke = 5 sec (approx)
• So for Calculation of 1 min = 12 components
• 60 min = 720 components
• For 8 hours,
• 435 min = 5220 components
