documents, etc.—that you will use for an essay, research paper, or project.
Although there are no strict formatting guidelines for the annotated bibliography itself, each
reference should be cited in APA format. After each citation, provide a summary of the source,
indicating how it will inform your essay, research paper, or project. Many pertinent ideas and
supporting details come from analyzing and summarizing your sources.
An annotated bibliography helps you get a head start on your assignment, and it encourages you
to focus your topic as you assess each source, choosing the key ideas and sources that are most
valuable for your assignment. Also, you can keep track of your sources as well as the correct
formatting for each reference.

What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, web pages, and other
documents. The reference citation is listed first and is followed by a brief description. The
annotation informs the reader of the relevance and quality of the sources cited.
What is the purpose of the annotated bibliography?
In certain classes, you will be asked to write an annotated bibliography, which sounds quite
intimidating, but is simply a brief summary of something you have read or consulted during the
course of your research on a given subject. The annotated bibliography has a structured format,
and the purpose for this is to provide the organizational tool you need to keep track of your
research and references. The bibliography may serve a number of purposes: illustrate the quality
of research, provide examples, review literature on a particular subject, or provide further
exploration of the subject.
Provided below is a sample annotated bibliography. Doctoral students should follow the
sample annotated bibliography provided in courses. This sample annotated bibliography may
differ in appearance from formatting required in the School of Advanced Studies.

What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, web pages, and other
documents. The reference citation is listed first and is followed by a brief description. The
annotation informs the reader of the relevance and quality of the sources cited.
What is the purpose of the annotated bibliography?
In certain classes, you will be asked to write an annotated bibliography, which sounds quite
intimidating, but is simply a brief summary of something you have read or consulted during the
course of your research on a given subject. The annotated bibliography has a structured format,
and the purpose for this is to provide the organizational tool you need to keep track of your
research and references. The bibliography may serve a number of purposes: illustrate the quality
of research, provide examples, review literature on a particular subject, or provide further
exploration of the subject.
Provided below is a sample annotated bibliography. Doctoral students should follow the
sample annotated bibliography provided in courses. This sample annotated bibliography may
differ in appearance from formatting required in the School of Advanced Studies.

Although my husband and I were both raised in African-American, Christian homes our parenting styles are quite different and it causes issues within our marriage. I am in the military and firmly believe that if you supply children with the necessary tools for success they should be able to take those tools and use them to their advantage. My husband is a parent that I consider an enabler. He does not push his daughter to do anything outside of her comfort zone. There is a link between understanding the purpose of one’s research and selecting the appropriate methods to investigate the questions that are derived from that purpose.

For this Discussion, you will evaluate the purpose statements in assigned journal articles in your discipline and consider the alignment of theory, problem, and purpose. You will also explain your position on the relationship between research and social change.
Alignment means that a research study possesses clear and logical connections among all of its various components. To achieve these connections, researchers must carefully craft the components of their study such that when they are viewed together, there is a coherent interrelationship.
As you read the authors’ purpose statements, consider how well the intent of the study, and its connection to the problem and theoretical framework, is presented. Also consider if the purpose statement reveals the study’s potential for engendering positive social change.
As you know, social change is a distinguishing feature of Walden University’s mission. Positive social change implies a transformation that results in positive outcomes. This can happen at many levels (e.g., individual, family systems, neighborhoods, organizations, nationally and globally); and positive social change can occur at different rates: slow and gradual or fast and radical.
With these thoughts in mind, refer to the Journal Articles document for your assigned articles for this Discussion. You will switch your journal article assignment from Week 3. Using multiple regression to control for demographic factors, results showed that candidates who received only instructional coaching scored significantly higher than those in traditional internships. There were no significant differences found between the other treatment groups and the control. The conclusions were that the innovations worked as well as traditional methods but may provide non-academic benefits, and they provide research-backed alternatives for programs unable to implement the models.

5 Years Later: Tracking Graduates into the Field
This presentation summarizes the results of tracking education graduates from East Carolina University over five years to evaluate the effectiveness of innovations in their teacher preparation program. They partnered with an external organization to access longitudinal data and track graduates teaching in North Carolina public schools. Their evaluations found no significant differences between ECU and comparison teachers in classroom observation scores, student achievement gains, graduates' self-confidence and job satisfaction. ECU graduates had higher retention rates, with over 90% staying in teaching after five years compared to around 85% of comparison teachers. The lessons learned were to use data to drive program improvements, develop systemic innovations across areas, and continue tracking graduates over time.
