The Treatment Of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
The family will typically sacrifice their own needs to take care of the veteran who has returned.
When a family member begins to place the veteran s health, welfare and needs before their own,
they can lose contact with their own needs, desires, and sense of self: becoming co dependent
(Mental Health America). The family has good intentions by taking care of the veteran who is
experiencing difficulty, but the caretaking becomes compulsive and defeating. Co dependents often
take on a martyr s role. The problem is that these repeated rescue attempts allow the needy
individual to continue on a destructive course and to become even more dependent on the
unhealthy caretaking of the family. As this reliance increases, the co dependent... Show more

Group interventions for trauma related psychoeducation and social support may also provide a
benefit (Defense Centers of Excellence, 2015). The first line of treatment for PTSD should include
an evidence based psychotherapy (i.e., talk therapy) and/or psychopharmacology (the study of drug
induced changes in mood, thinking, and behavior). The psychotherapies with the most evidence
typically include one or more of several productive therapeutic approaches including exposure to
traumatic memories, stimuli or situations; cognitive restructuring of trauma related beliefs; and
stress reduction techniques. The table below summarizes effective PTSD psychotherapy
approaches detailed in Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense (VA/DoD)
clinical practice guidelines. These treatments should be considered the first line of treatment for
patients with PTSD (Defense Centers of Excellence, 2015)

The Hot Hand Theory Of Basketball Is A Fallacy Essay
Evidence presented throughout the last forty years has suggested that the Hot Hand theory in
basketball is a fallacy. Evidence suggested that there is no scientific reasoning for being able to
improve one s odds of making a jump shot, if the previous three shots were made. New evidence
presented by, Andrew Bocskocsky, John Ezekowitz, and Carolyn Stein, suggested that there is a
better chance of making a shot if the previous three shots have been made. The authors have used
equations that take into account different aspects of the game, which could influence hotness.
Previously, these variables have not been taken into account, which could have possibly skewed the
data. The evidence in the peer reviewed journal article, has taken into account all aspects of the
game that could influence the probability that a shot will, or will not go in. In the article
Bocskocsky, Ezekowitz, and Stein, used a data set from 83,000 shot attempts throughout the 2012
2013 NBA season. From each shot taken, stats were recorded regarding the different aspects of the
shot. First off, shot difficulty needs to be taken into account. Who is taking the shot will influence
the probability of the shot going in, depending if it is a high percentage three point shooter taking
the shot, or a center taking the three point shot. Another factor that has been taken into account is
the amount of time left, and score differential. These two factors will heavily influence the mindset

Analysis and Historical Context from Second Treatise of...
COMMENTARY OF SECOND TREATISE OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT : The previous
fragment we ve read belongs to the work of John Locke, Second Treatise of Civil Government ,
who published it anonymously in 1689. It is a work of political philosophy, in which Locke talks
about civil society, natural rights and separation of powers. Locke was one of the first empirical
philosophers and he believed that the human being was born with no knowledge, and that
experience and observation were the base of all human wisdom. In the text, Locke talks about how
powers should be separated and not concentrated in the same person (the King) because he would
be tempted, and in fact it was happening, to use them just to satisfy his desires. Locke also says that

The Restoration of 1660, by restoring crown, church and lords, put Englishmen back once more
under a system of government proven unworkable. With a king on the throne who still wanted
to govern, and a group of dissatisfied men in parliament who wanted his government to be
controlled by them, conflict was hard to avoid. But the civilian revolution did not happen until
after Charles II s death in 1685. King Charles was succeeded by his brother James, who became
James II of England and VII of Scotland. James is best known for his belief in absolute
monarchy and his attempts to create religious liberty for his subjects against the wishes of the
English Parliament. Increasingly members of Britain s political and religious elite opposed
him as too pro French, too pro Catholic, and too much of an absolute monarch. When he
produced a Catholic heir, the tension exploded and leading nobles called on William III of
Orange (his son in law and nephew) to land an invasion army from the Netherlands. James fled
England (and thus abdicated) in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. He was replaced by William of
Orange who became king as William III, ruling jointly with his wife (James s daughter) Mary II.
Thus William and Mary, both Protestants, became joint rulers in 1689. Parliament issued the Bill of
Rights, which stipulated the rights and obligations of the monarch. William and Mary reigned
jointly till 1694 when Mary died. Then, William continued to reign alone. He died

Non Traditional Tribe Essay
Tribe is a word used to describe a form of human social organization based on a set of bands,
political integration, and are defined by their traditions. These common descent, language, and
culture. It is usually used to describe traditional tribes like the Eno or the San, but it can be used to
describe non traditional tribes like a neighborhood or a soccer team. These can be called tribe
because ,like the traditional tribes, they too have the same language and they too have a political
party. For example, a soccer team would be considered a non traditional tribe because it follows
the definitions of a tribe. A soccer team includes the same language and had a political party which
is two main parts of a tribe. Non traditional tribes are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tribes work to become the best to differentiate themselves as a tribe , but they are
overlooked because it is not how they become the best it is how they become their best selves.
The way soccer teams do this is by using their skills. Maybe they are faster so they will show it
through that or maybe they are stronger and taller so they will use that to become the best. This
is how they see the world becoming the best selves so they can succeed in life. These people
treat each other with kindness. The older you are on the soccer team the more respect you get.
This is how they significant dominance. This gives you the power to recognize each other on
who can do what. Without these people acting differently toward each other. Some people could
act out of line. Like if a younger member of a soccer team messes with an older player he would
get in more trouble so they usually don t. This gives them their place so they can be kind to one
another. This is like a traditional tribe because tribes usually have someone or some force to say no
and give the intimidation to keep people in their place. Without this in a traditional tribe crime and
murders can be much more complicated, which

The Civil Service Reform ( Csr )
1.0Introduction/ Background
Improvement, change and innovation are almost constant, as the service environment remains
dynamic in tune to the trend of the society. Civil service reform (CSR) is one of the most
intractable yet important challenges for governments and their supporters today. However, CSR
might have failed in some states; this is not to say the process is not pertinent as governments and
their supporters today seize opportunities availed by the reformation. To buttress this fact, Sarah
(2012) posited reformation as a tool touches not only on government s very purpose of existence,
but also on some of its most sensitive, protected areas.
Authors like Sarah (2012), Antwi, Analoui and Nana Agyekum (2008) subscribed to the assertion
that civil service is the backbone of the state, supporting or undermining the entire system of
governance. This system of governance is however open to notable modifications termed reforms,
since administrative heads change, and every administrator has his/her style. In this context,
Evans, (2008) cited in Sarah (2012), traced the account of CSR and broke it into three phases.
The first phase took place in the 1980s. This period was characterized largely by donors supporting
various aspects of institutional development realizing the civil service s crucial role in changing
policy. After the collapse of Communism and the failure of many of the aid programmes of the
aforementioned phase, the 1990s saw a growing consensus that the

Why Some Go Into St. John s Woods
Some go into the woods and never come out. Some come out that never went in. It was one of
the best Saturday practices during the cross country season: The run to the chapel in the St. John
s woods. It was the end of September, and fall was beginning. The St. John s woods were cool,
colorful, and mysterious. Four girls, all best friends; Brooke, Gina, Abbie, and Kristine were all
running together. Kristine was a state runner the past year and was ahead of the rest as always, but
not far enough that they couldn t laugh and tell terrible puns together. Now all runners know that
running on paths is boring. So when the girls find an off road path naturally someone s going to
want to go on it. Hey, there s another path that s not really a path. Abbie said, Can... Show more

They have no time to tell each other the plan. They just run in pure terror. Across the branches,
leaves, and twigs, the girls stumble over themselves and each other to try to find a way to
escape their terrible fate. The relaxing woods cross country practice all the sudden is not fun
and games anymore. Sprinting as fast as she can, Gina runs to find the tallest tree. The one her
racing brain finally decides on is a tamarack. Climbing with all her might in her upper body, for
cross country has made her strong, Gina focused on getting to the top. She climbed and climbed.
Her body scratched against the bark and her clothes tore. She climbed on. Nothing could stop
her determination to live. As she came to rest at the top her muscles were sore and she had cuts
all over. Made it, was all that Gina could muster before the birds flew to knock her off balance
and fall of the tree to plummet to her death. Kristine and Abbie heard a scream behind them to see
Gina falling from a tree. They stood shocked for a few seconds, but the sight of hundreds of birds
following them quickly brought them back to their

Ethics, Ethical, And Unethical Behavior
Trident University Kaipo Kim Module 1 Case Assignment Eth501 Professor: Gary Shelton, Ph.
D. 6 November 2016 Introduction Organizations that behave ethically are more apt to earn the
trust of their customers, employees, and stockholders. To become successful and hold a great
reputation within any company, one must know right from wrong, but more importantly make
those hard decisions to do what is right. Once a member within a corporation starts to cheat,
steal, and coerce the system, it becomes a domino effect that leaves devastating ramifications. We
will discuss issues like falsifying financial statements, improper use of company funds, ethical
behaviors and unethical behaviors. Fairness The first virtue that I choose to discuss within this
paper is the word fairness. Fair is defined as agreeing with what is thought to be right or
acceptable; treating people in a way that does not favor some over others; not too harsh or critical
(Merriam Webster Dictionary, n.d.). With this simple definition, Mattel founded Global
Manufacturing Principles (GMP), whose intent was to identify and fix issues within their
companies like wages an hours, child labor, forced labor, discrimination, freedom of association,
legal and ethical business practices, product safety and product quality, just to name a few ( XX).
Mattel set the standards of becoming a socially responsible corporation by putting into place GMP
that ensured their corporation not only made money, but also treated

Persuasive Essay On Vaccines
Vaccinating children Immunization is very important to the safety and health of everyone,
especially children. Whether on not to vaccinate is the big question here. The only reasonable
choice to make is to vaccinate. Immunization is not bad; moreover, the choice to not receive shots
is dangerous. The choice to vaccinate your child could be a choice of either life or death. Vaccines
are safer and easier than many people think. Immunization can protect from loss of time and money
due to hospitalization, and can save future generations. Becoming educated on vaccinations and
how they work will save lives one day. Vaccinationcan save your child. The medical world is more
advance then it has ever been before. The advancements in medicine have been able to save many
children s lives again harmful diseases that once killed thousands. Vaccines have killed off many
diseases and a lot are on the brink of extinction. Vaccination protects your child from more diseases
than ever before. Polio was once an epidemic in the united states that killed millions. Thankfully to
vaccination polio is very rare and has not been reported in the states recently. Vaccinations help your
child s immune systeminteract with the substance that is in the shot and kill it off so that they are
immune. The vaccinewill not harm your child. Yes, there can be allergic reactions but that is better
than death from your body not being prepared to attack the viruses. Immunization is very quick

Revelation 14 Research Paper
Revelation 14:12 which states, Here is the patience of the saints: here are they who keep the
commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Shows two characteristics of a group of people:
they keep the commandments of God and they have the faith of Jesus. If we look at the context of
the chapter in the preceding verses, we see that this group of people is at the end of time.
Therefore, this group at the end of time will have to be patient, keep the commandments of God,
and have the faith of Jesus. Many people believe that this verse is talking about a group of people
at the end of time that stay true to God, but they don t believe that it is a specific group of people
or denomination. I believe this group of people are the Seventh day Adventists and we will see
why using the characteristics that are found in Revelation 14:12, as well as when they arose, and

began to preach about it, soon there was a movement all across the United State, as well as the
world, preaching this gospel. At this time a girl named Ellen G. White began having dreams and

rifle from the sights, stock, magazine, and a threaded barrel. The Ruger Scout rifle was developed
from their Model 77 platform. This weapon is known for it s firing pin assembly being restricted.

Castesism In My Teacher
During my teaching days, I was quite fond of visiting the community my students belonged to.
One home visit that I distinctly remember was at a student s house, who was sharp in Math and
kind of my favorite in Math class, knowing that favoritism should not happen with teachers! Since

In the United States there are approximately 1,075,000 psychopathic males in prison or on parole

empathy but with the right treatment they can begin to understand right from wrong. Both
psychopathyand sociopathy are defined as antisocial personality disorders that produce a lack of

Psychotherapy has been shown to be the most effective treatment option for psychopathy and
sociopathy. In a study from 2013, psychotherapy was 35% more effective than other known
treatment methods (Salekin et al. 7). This suggests that psychotherapy is the best option for
treatment. Psychotherapy helps to minimize the symptoms of psychopathy and sociopathy. After 2
months of psychotherapy a man started to have less violent outbursts (Porter). This example
suggests that psychotherapy can enable the victim to push back against their symptoms. The victim
will have to continue getting treatment until age 40. The treatment method of psychotherapy is to
talk through situations and feelings with a psychiatrist, this treatment should continue until around
the age of 40 as this is about the age the expression of the illness stops (Salekin et al. 6). The
victims will have to seek help in order to control their symptoms, if they do it will be a long journey
for both the victim and the family. Psychopathy and sociopathy cannot be cured with our current
knowledge of them but those impacted can seek out treatment to lessen the

The original court was modest and supported a master and two fellows. They would have studied

White Privilege And Black Privilege
The term privilege is when a person has the right or confused with having the right to do
something. For example, for someone to advance their education is not a privilege perhaps it is a
right. In some cases during certain situation person can be granted the privilege. White privilege is
a word greatly used in social rights that advantage individuals to be acknowledged as white in
Western countries, afar what is frequently proficient by non white individuals in the same social,
political, or economic conditions (Rothenberg, 2016). However, when a certain racecolor is treated
more superior than another race is giving the advantage or benefit to have the opportunity to do
anything they want without anyone trying to stop them.
According to the authors, what practice(s) create white privilege is viewed in their own unique
perspective but, it all fits up under one category of a specific race having the advantage to have
their freedom to do what they like. Based on McIntosh view that whites in Western societies adore
recompenses that non whites do not practice, as an undistinguishable package of unjustified assets
(Rothenberg, 2016). White freedom represents together evident and not as much of evident
submissive rewards that white people may possibly not identify they require, which differentiates it
from explicit favoritism or preconception. In fact, they have been accepted as the better social
status in addition to freedom to move, buy, work, play, and speak freely. It

William Coverdale (1488 1569), The Great Bible
The atmosphere changed in England as Rome and Henry the VIII came into conflict. Henry the VII
wanted to divorce his Catholic wife, Katherine of Aragon, the Catholic Church refused. When the
Pope refused, Henry VII renounced the Catholic Church and appointed himself head of the Church
of England. To spite the Catholic Church and unify his kingdom, he ordered the Bible printed and
translated into English, and placed in all the churches, the translation they placed in the churches
was the Great Bible. Miles Coverdale was the editor behind the Great Bible, which used the
Matthew s Bible as its basis. The size of the Bible, 16 ВЅ inches by 11 inches was the reason it was
called the Great Bible.

where another translation of the English Bible was prepared, the Geneva Bible. The Geneva

Analysis Of Joseph J. Ellis s The Long Run
Intro: Joseph J. Ellis starts out by stating in his preface that the American Revolution was both
necessary and inevitable. The Revolution has been described as something that was already
preordained, that, with the direction things had been headed in, the Revolution was bound to
occur. With the size and power of the British army and navy, the rebellious disrupters in America
should have been knocked down almost immediately, by logic s rules. Adjacent to this lies Ellis
statement that, in the long run, the evolution of an independent American nation, gradually
developing its political and economic strength over the nineteenth century...was probably
inevitable (5). While the inevitability of America s evolution was to happen under British
constraints, Ellis argument is that this was not the way history happened. His thesis argues that
America s success was not a result that could be clearly predicted, that the advancement of
America as its own entity was not like how it is seen as today. Ellis then splits off into talking
about how we need to be both farsighted and nearsighted in order to truly see America s growth
for what it is and has been. On the farsighted side, Ellis talks about how the isolation of North
America and its large reserves of natural resources would have given America much potential to
develop on its own. According to Ellis, if America could survive together for the first few stages of
its development and then push through the British desire for control,

Crimes Of The Heart By Beth Henley
Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley (1979) is a fictional, comical play about the individual
hardships three sisters have faced in their lives, and the process of fixing the mess they all got
themselves into. The characters in this playwright have all committed social crimes, with only
two of the characters who actually commit legal crimes. This is where the title of the play is
derived from. Some of the themes found in this play include death, imperfection, resentment,
image, and hope. Henley s play takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride with the three sisters in
the southern town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi in the mid 20th century. The three main characters
in Crimes of the Heart are Lenny McGrath, Meg McGrath, and Babe Botrelle. Lenny is the oldest
of the sisters and the play takes place during her 30th birthday. She is not married, and spends
her time taking care of her sick grandfather who raised her and her sisters. Meg is the middle
child who lives in California pursuing a singing career. Her career failed, she ended up being so
depressed she ended up in a mental hospital, and she came home to hopefully get back with her
ex fiancГ©, Doc Porter, which little does she know is married with two children. The youngest of
the sisters is Babe Botrelle, who is married to Zachary Botrelle, the most successful man in town,

Gender and Life Expectancy
Gender and Life Expectancy It s a phenomena seen in every population and every country:
women live longer than men by 4 to 5 years everywhere. At first people tried to explain this fact
by saying that men did more dangerous things and therefore died younger. Men ride
motorcycles, don t go see the doctor and just take more risks. When the statisticians got done
with the data, though, these explanations didn t really explain much. It seems women just live
longer. In fact, men are around five times more likely to die from cardiovascular problems than
women. Why could this be happening? Life expectancy in the human race has risen
dramatically in the past century (Harris, 2009) reaching its highest level for both males and
females on record (Office for National Statistics (ONS), 2006). Japan currently has the longest
surviving individual with a life span averaging 84 years for both men and women (World Health
Organization (WHO), 2006). According to Rooney et al (2004) the term life expectancy is
defined as the number of years that somebody can expect to live, according to statistics (p.
1084).Over the last 100 years, the expectancy of life has increased and the overall goal is to live
a long and healthy life. Some social scientists have predicted that the western population has a
possible life span within the range of 85 100years. Others have suggested that with medical
advances humans can be expected to live beyond these ages. The longest lived human on record
was 122 years

was inside of a textbook. (Grolier Education). Without Julius Meyer, there would be no periodic
table as there is today. He was the human who realized that the properties of an element a part of
the periodic table all depended on the atomic weight, (Chem Heritage). He had some of the very
first ideas that led to the first copies of our periodic table in the 1870 s (Chem Heritage). Julius
Lothar Meyer had figured out and organized 28 of the elements back in the 1800 s into six
families. He did this by figuring out the physical and chemical characteristics that were similar to
each other in each element. He organized them depending on the valence of each element. Valence
is the number that represents combining power of an atomof a particular element. Meyer saw that
there were some elements missing as he organized them according to the atomic weight, and left
some spots... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used in classrooms all over and it is used in chemistry labs all over and just in science in
general. Without Julius Meyer we would not have the same periodic table that we have now. He
was the one that realized that valence is the connection between some elements. He learned that
the atomic weight was the way that the periodic table had to be organized. The periodic table is
the reason many things in science are the way the are now. Now we can find out what is in certain
mixtures with just a few minutes starting at the periodic table. The periodic table is known by
everyone and used by everyone and is definitely one of the most useful way of transportation.

Aims and Development of the Penal System Within the Uk...
Discuss the aims and development of the penal system within the UK over the last 200 years. In
this essay I will be looking at the key developments of the British penal system since the early
nineteenth century. I will also discuss how the main objectives of the prison system have changed
over this period of time. The earliest origins of imprisonment was the use of holding defendants
prior to trial and dates back to the 9th century. This early form of incarceration was not designed
as a form of punishment, rather it was reserved for individuals unable to provide surety for loans
or behaviour. The majority of these individuals were held within country gaols, although there were
some purpose built gaols such as Tower and Fleet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the terms of the Act were often ignored and they only covered the main prisons and not
the smaller gaols or debtor s prisons (Todd, 2002, p.118). By now the number of prisoners was
increasing partly due to the decline in other forms of punishment, such as the stocks and branding,
which were now viewed as outdated. Nevertheless many people still believed that prison should be
concerned with punishment and deterrence, rather than the rehabilitation of criminals which was
viewed as costly (Todd, 2002, p.119). In 1842 Pentonville prison was built using the panopticon
design. This meant that each prisoner was now held in their own individual cell. Pentonville
operated on the В‘separate system which involved almost total solitary confinement and elements
such as education and work were largely ignored (www.howardleague.org/studycentre
/historyofprison.htm). Support for the separate system declined in the second half of the 19th
century and was gradually replaced by the В‘silent system . The silent system was introduced in
1865 and was originally used in America. Prisoners were still kept in solitary confinement for the
first nine months and in addition were also forced to do В‘hard labour . Hard labour consisted of
pointless unproductive work designed to deter prisoners from re offending. One of the main

The Problem Of Defective Yoga Pants
Background: This case study analysis will define the problem of defective yoga pants products,
corporate corruption, and the growing media conflict of weigh shaming in the sizes 2 12 limits
on Lululemon yoga pants. Lululemon has seen a fall in the price of stock market shares due to
these major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes.
The Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to
sheerness and see through ), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail
markets. More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to
effectively address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases,
women s yoga pants were sheer enough to be see through when the material was stretched.
Customers were then asked to bend over in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that
the pants had, in fact, were see through due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This
caused embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low
quality customer service. Lululemon also responsible limiting their yoga pants in the 2 12 size
range, which expressed a specific bias towards women that were perceived to be overweight. In
response to complaints on Facebook involving weight shaming by the company, a digital

Overview of the Material Properties and RE Application for Cu(In,Ga)Se2
Introduction and Historical Notes
I have chosen to review the material properties and applications for the compound semiconductor
copper indium gallium selenide as it is used in photovoltaic cells. A chalcopyrite based material,
the chemical formula is often written as CuIn1 xGaxSe2 (CIGS) to represent the alloy system
where the stoichiometric ratio of the compound can vary from pure CuInSe2 (CIS) to CuGaSe2
(CGS). For the purposes of this document, however, the entire range of combinations will simply
be referred to as CIGS. I selected this material for a few reasons. I am fascinated with ... Show more

This document, however, will provide a much more general and top level view of the material
properties.
The first chalcopyrite solar cells were reported by Wagner et al. in 1974 when a 12% efficient cell
was created based on single crystal CuInSe2 absorber. [1] Later, Kazmerski et al. demonstrated that
a thin film solar cell could be created by an evaporation process. [2] Commercial CIGS modules
were not produced, however, for another 20 years. Since that time the material has been
continuously studied and improved. Ga was added to stabilize the p type conductivity and
increase the band gap. It was also discovered that the addition of Na, either through the use of
soda lime glass substrate or added during the growth process, helps to boost the conductivity of
the material and control the film growth and free carrier concentration. [2] As of 2014, the
record for CIGS efficiency demonstrated in a laboratory setting was held by researchers at
Stuttgart s Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW), for their achievement of a
21.7% efficient cell. [3] As of May 2015, the Taiwanese company TSMC Solar has reported the
highest efficiency module that is commercially available with a rating of 16.5%. [4]

* Debt Equity shows Ceres financial leverage and its aggressive posture in financing its growth
with debt. The company could potentially generate more earnings than it would have without this
outside financing. This indicates that even with Ceres expansion of distribution channels,
extension of payment terms, and the creation of a direct sales force, Ceres was able to manage
to stay below 1 with a mean average of .74. * Inventory Turnover shows an efficient turnover of
inventory. Ceres does not hold inventory for long periods of time, which can incur additional costs
by having assets sit without revenue generation. It shows Ceres ability to manage inventory in a
seasonal cycle and further indicates their ability to forecast demands on product movement. *
Accounts Receivable shows Ceres effectiveness in extending credit as well as collecting debts. The
extended payment terms appear to be working. The prompt collection of debts enables Ceres to use
the monies to reinvest into the business. Table 1 Ratios Used Ratios| 2002| 2003| 2004| 2005|

All it takes is one bad day. Batman: The Killing Joke, 2016.
Batman and the Joker are not usually seen as comparable characters. However, there are
similarities that are often overlooked. Firstly, one needs to know what their origins are. Joker s

Batman s origin is very well known and typically stays the same throughout movies and comics. To
illustrate, while walking home from a cinema, Bruce Wayne s mother and father, Martha and
Thomas, walked into the infamous crime alley. There, an unknown robber shot and killed both of
them. Bruce swore to avenge his parent s death. Soon after, a friend of Martha and Thomas Wayne,
Dr. Leslie Thompkins, along with the Wayne family s butler, Alfred Pennyworth

for Bruce where he would not have to be taken by Gotham s Social Services. Instead, the two
helped young Bruce realize his destiny in becoming one of Gotham s finest heroes. One of the
most commonly known origins of the Joker is the one that is featured in Batman: Killing Joke, The

The Reid Technique Of Interrogation
This particular study is captivating because it narrows down the causes of wrongful convictions of
innocent people, whether it s the interrogators applying inappropriate methods of the Reid
Technique, such as misclassification, coercion, psychological manipulation, and contamination.
(Orlando) The Reid Technique of interrogationconsists of essentially three steps. Custody and
isolation (i.e., the suspect is detained and isolated, anxiety and uncertainty are generated in order to
weaken resistance). Confrontation (i.e., the suspect s guilt is assumed and he or she is confronted
with alleged incriminating evidence that may or may not be genuine; denials are rejected, even if
they happen to be true, and the consequence of continued denial is emphasized), and minimization
(i.e., the interrogator tries to gain the suspect s trust and provides face saving excuses for the crime,
including suggesting that it was an accident or that the victim deserved it) (...) During the
interrogation the investigators use tactics of imbedding trust to lure detainees to comply and
achieve a legal outcome which could lead to reducing longer sentencing if the detainee confesses.
Also if there are multiple co perpetrators investigators look to probe the detainee that someone has
cast blame on the individual, so therefore they must engage with the policeand own up to their part
in the crime (Douglas Rita). The Reid Technique not only is it used illegitimately but it placing

We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge,

The Black Cat Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the many poets known for using dark imagery to further the visual
content of his text. In doing so, Poe uses his narrator in The Black Cat to communicate to his
readers a series of household events in which he uses details that horrify and haunt the readers.
Opening with mystery, the readers are able to quickly infer that Poe s narrator lacks common
sense and rationality and that is what causes him become impulsive in his actions towards his
loved ones. In this story, Poe writes through the eyes of an unnamed deceptive narrator who
maltreats his wife and cat and relates how alcoholism and his oblivious views led him to their
murder. By writing through the eyes of his narrator, Poe breaks the fictional barrier and creates a
realism in the story which arouses his readers with the details about the murder of his wife and
beloved cat. Poe s use of dark imagery contributes to the overall mood of the story by utilizing
characterization, diction, and anxiety through his narrator.
Poe develops the dark personality of his narrator throughout the story and allows the story to be
told from a first person point of view which makes the story seem realistic. The narrator includes
detailed descriptions of the torturous and murderous acts that were committed in this story and by
doing this, the narrator holds the reader s attention. Poe characterizes the black cat in the story by
naming the cat Pluto which, according to Moreland and Rodriguez, is ...an obvious reference to
the ruler of Hades (Moreland, Rodriguez 209). The name of the cat is significant for this reason;
Pluto the black cat, is named after a dark Greek ruler, which shows Poe wanted to characterize
the black cat as an evil being. Poe illustrates the black cat as evil by describing it as entirely black
and by saying that when the cat bit him the fury of a demon instantly possessed (Poe 5) him.
Early in the story, when Poe first introduces the black cat he mentions an ancient popular notion,
which regarded all black cats as witches in disguise (Poe 4), by adding this to the description of
the cat it creates a dark image which foreshadows how the narrator feels later in the story towards
the feline. By choosing to

As stated by USA Today, strong factors include: gourmet offerings, coffeehouses with hip appeal,
and health benefits. Coffee has become important to us on so many levels and there s no signs its
cachet is going away anytime soon, it s part beverage, another part pop culture (DeRupo). Another
factor is the production of baristas for use at home. There has been an escalating popularity in
homebrewing gadgets and custom blends for use in the simplest ways. People today are more
educated on their coffee and want it every time the way they like it. While there s constantly
growth in the consumption of coffee, the demographics of the drinkers steadily change. Recent
studies show that over the last two years, 74 percent of Hispanic Americans drink coffee daily, that

When someone slips the puppy a scrap under the table or the puppy is fed leftovers afterwards, the
puppy will quickly learn to come back next time and wait/ beg for more.
The number one way to stop the begging problem is to never let it start. This may seem obvious
but it only takes one instance of you feeding your puppy from the table to start a begging
problem. A good rule of thumb I use is to only feed your puppy from his food bowl This means that
you can still feed your puppy scraps if you really want to. As long as you are sure to put them in
your puppy s food bowl first.
If you have been feeding your puppy scraps from the dinner table for a while now, than the
begging can be difficult to stop. Luckily, there are a few different methods you can use to help.
Never feed your puppy anything from the table. If possible, always have your puppy eat from his
bowl.
As always with attention seeking behaviors, when your puppy is begging you need to completely
ignore him. Just pretend he is not there. After a certain period of time any puppy will stop
begging. Keep in mind that this method will probably not work over night. If your puppy has been
fed from the table for eight months than it could take a month for your puppy to cease the

Universal Ethical Egoism
Ethical Egoism is one of the most controversial theories in all of Moral Philosophy having
received both bitter criticism and high praise from philosophers of all stripes. While it was a
prevalent topic in the mid to late 19th century, Ethical Egoism is rarely discussed today. This lack
of contemporary relevance stems from a series of formidable criticisms which gave opponents of
Ethical Egoisman apparent victory over its proponents. For the most part, however, these opponents
have failed to account for egoisms complexities; whereas there are multiple versions of Ethical
Egoism, opponents usually argue against a very narrow, general conception. Thus, in the
following essay, I claim that the argument is all but won by demonstrating that these criticisms are
not as strong as they appear. I will make my case by analyzing the multiple forms of Ethical Egoism

Information Processing And The Human Mind
Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events,
translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the
short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need
be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such
efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the
human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory,
cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model
was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single
theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and
execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information
processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in
a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and
interference in perceptionand memory. The researchers are still trying to apply educational settings
that involve the basics; math, reading, and science.
Theorists believe that learning starts to form with relations between the stimuli and responses,
which is one of the characteristics in behaviorism. The only reason theorists don t

which he had fought for so strongly in the past. However, amid all the claims of his betrayal of
his political principles by buying the territory without consulting congress, it is clear that he didn t

This was for several reasons, primarily being the hypocrisy of using the necessary and proper
clause after having attacked Hamilton relentlessly for having used the same clause to set up a

comments regarding the National Bank, in which he said, To take a single step beyond the
boundaries specially drawn around powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless
field of power, no longer susceptible of any decision. By using the necessary and proper clause,
Jefferson managed to avoid having to go through Congress to get approval, and also managed to
avoid the state governments, just as Hamilton did. This was the exact opposite of what a typical
Republican would do, as they believed that the states should have much more power than the
federal government. Given that he appears to go against many of the Republican main ideals, he
was considered by several as a neo Federalist. However, even amongst all of this, it is still clear that

The theoretical framework I develop rests on the assumption that individuals are rational actors
insofar as they calculate and act to maximize their expected utilities. An illustration of this
assumption is found when the expected utility of continuing a war is outweighed by the expected
utility of wartermination. When the expected costs of continuing a war exceed the expected
benefits, the relevant actors will begin to press for peace. I further assume that leaders act to
maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are accountable to a domestic audience.

The volume and intensity of conflict drive the rate at which these costs accrue. They may vary
intermittently in a smoldering dispute or accumulate more quickly in open conflict. Regardless of
this rate, I assume the longer a war continues, the more costs will mount, and the more likely that
one side will begin to press for a settlement. While some will oppose or support a conflict
regardless of the human or economic cost, most determine their support by paying particular
attention to these wartime losses. Both a leader and their domestic audience will calculate their
expected utilities and update their expectations by observing these outcomes. More important to
consider is the point at which the anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the
anticipated costs of terminating conflict for a leader s domestic audience.
Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are
ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied
with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars. This
cost sensitivity argument has typically underpinned empirical observations on the tendency of
democracies to fight uniformly shorter wars. Autocratic leaders, it was argued, do not labor under
such restraints

The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s
clear to see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We
Have Faces. All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every
relationship, there is a lovefactor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish
different types of the love being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members,
but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves,
Lewis dissects the different forms of love. There are many connections to be made between
characters throughout Till We Have Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros,
and Agape. Each of the four loves plays a part in the plot of the story.
The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical
features do not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close
friend (Four Loves 31 32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel
receives love from her younger sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also
loves Orual even though she frightens people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche
have a special bond. Psyche and Orual look at the Fox as a father figure because he acts as a true
grandfather towards them (21). Storge is found between the three

Rachel E. Tackett
Southeastern University
Abstract
The following paper explores environmentally friendly strategies utilized in the UK based multi

corporation, with headquarters in London, England. The following paper will analyze the
effectiveness of utilizing environmentally friendly strategies in a large corporation, such as M S,
and how those strategies could be implemented in a US based startup food and retail business,
specifically located in central Florida.
Environmentalism in the UK: A Look into the Environmental Strategies Incorporated at Marks and
Spencer
Author and environmentalist Richard Welford asserts: There is a recognition that the
environmental crisis exists but a great deal of helplessness about what to do about it (1997, p. x).
Marks and Spencer (M S), founded in 1884, is a thriving, sustainable, environmentally friendly
retail and food company located in the United Kingdom. Marks and Spencer adheres to a strategy

Compare And Contrast Africa And American Civilizations
The civilizations of America, Africa, and Europe each had their own political, economic, and
religious systems that changed drastically when people from each continent encountered one
another. In the Americas, the Native Americans had developed large and massive empires that
would come to marvel the world. In Africa, there were are also large empires, home to millions of
people. Western Europeon the other hand did not have any large empires or well organized
societies. However, this would all change when the Europeans came in contact with the people
in the Americas and Africa. It would be the Europeans that rose up while the other races fell.
Before the Europeans arrived in the New World, it was filled with wealth and resources. When
the Spanish first explored the New World they returned to Spain with strings of pearls and gold.
The land was also full of Native Americans. The native people in the Americas had created some
of the greatest empires in the world. These empires spread all across the New World especially
in Mexico and Guatemala. These empires were home to over 60 million people. Most of these
people lived in the great empires of the Aztecs and Incas, the two largest empires at the time. Both
of these empires housed more people than most European cities at the time. The Aztecs had a
diverse trade system that included tributes from the people to the leaders of the empire. They
required tribute to be payed to them, typically consisting of gold, textiles, and cacao.

Catalase Activity Lab Report
Effects Temperature and Substrate Concentration have on Enzyme Catalase Activity
Abstract
Enzymes are protein catalysts, which is a substance that speeds up the rate of a chemical reaction.
The need of breaking down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen is growing because of the harmful
toxins present. In the first experiment we hypothesized that as the substrate concentration
increased, so did the reaction rate, therefore allowing more oxygen to be produced is less time. The
first experiment mixed each substrate concentration, 0.8%, 0.4%, 0.2%, and 0.1% with a constant
catalase buffer. The reaction time to fill a 10ml graduated cylinder with oxygen bubbles was
documented in seconds and was then converted to milliliters of oxygen gathered per minute. ...

First, the buffer solution was placed with room temperature enzymes. This was around 25 degrees
Celsius and was mixed with the 0.8% hydrogen peroxide in the flask. The 0.8% hydrogen peroxide
stays the constant substrate concentration in this experiment as the enzyme temperature changed.
Then the thoroughly mixed substances were watched and timed, waiting for 10ml to fill with
oxygen, like in the previous experiment. The substrate concentration was then mixed with warm
enzyme and tested. This was around 40 degrees Celsius. Next the substrate was mixed with ice
cold enzymes which was 0 degrees Celsius. Lastly, the substrate was tested with the boiled
catalase. Time was recorded for each. The results were recorded for both experiments and displayed

It is also illegal to discriminate against a person because the person complained about
discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination
investigation or lawsuit.
The EEOC s role in this lawsuit.
EEOC s role in this case was to file lawsuit against the employer (Exel) on behalf of the employee
Contrice Travis and to protect the rights of this employee and the interests of the public.
Whether or not this lawsuit promotes social change; justify your reasoning.
This verdict is a blow against sex discrimination and reaffirms that women should be allowed the
full opportunity to advance in an organization based on merit, EEOC General Counsel David
Lopez said after the jury rendered its verdict. If all discrimination cases gets the headline and
attention, it will promote social changes but not all cases are heard (reported) or brought to surface
(lawsuit filed). We have to do our best to educate and promote equal rights to all people and
understand that discrimination of any kind is not healthy to society.
A comparison of the EEOC press release to the news item. What accounts for the differences?
Actually, the press release by EEOC and the news blog was pretty much in tune with each other and
the accounts were similar with no indication of differences.

Venice Economy Benefits
To benefit my business and also yours, it would be in everyone s best interest to visit one of the
five major city states to better the wealth of both of us as merchants so that you can trade more
and so that I have more to trade with, and specifically of what. Venice is a city with no roads.
The houses are built along the canals. This means that it is of easy access to those trading by sea
to the Mediterranean because they will not have to travel inland to trade. Although Venice itself
does not have a natural resources, nearby cities have been conquered for farmland, so there are
little natural resources. Venice is the center of trade because of its location. The currency here
by gold coins, called the ducat, has a reliable worth and is valued everywhere. There is a strong
economy because of the amount of trade occurring here. The population is obviously a well
enough amount because of all of the trade occurring here. A labor skill needed here are
mercenaries because Venice does not have an army of its own. People from all over the world
come here to trade, so it is to be assumed that many different languages are spoken because of the
trading by so many different areas. This city itself is a cultural point of interest... Show more content

It is the most inland of all of the major city states meaning that this major city state will be
lacking what is normally traded by sea because it can be assumed that merchants of those goods
feel it is easier to trade somewhere more accessible. Because of their strong military forces,
joining their army is a possible labor skill. The Piazza del Duomo is a large beautiful building,
which is an attraction I would recommend merchants and those visiting to go see. It is one of the
most famous buildings in all of Milan, a great place to set up trade where many people will

  • 2. The Treatment Of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder The family will typically sacrifice their own needs to take care of the veteran who has returned. When a family member begins to place the veteran s health, welfare and needs before their own, they can lose contact with their own needs, desires, and sense of self: becoming co dependent (Mental Health America). The family has good intentions by taking care of the veteran who is experiencing difficulty, but the caretaking becomes compulsive and defeating. Co dependents often take on a martyr s role. The problem is that these repeated rescue attempts allow the needy individual to continue on a destructive course and to become even more dependent on the unhealthy caretaking of the family. As this reliance increases, the co dependent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Hot Hand Theory Of Basketball Is A Fallacy Essay Evidence presented throughout the last forty years has suggested that the Hot Hand theory in basketball is a fallacy. Evidence suggested that there is no scientific reasoning for being able to improve one s odds of making a jump shot, if the previous three shots were made. New evidence presented by, Andrew Bocskocsky, John Ezekowitz, and Carolyn Stein, suggested that there is a better chance of making a shot if the previous three shots have been made. The authors have used equations that take into account different aspects of the game, which could influence hotness. Previously, these variables have not been taken into account, which could have possibly skewed the data. The evidence in the peer reviewed journal article, has taken into account all aspects of the game that could influence the probability that a shot will, or will not go in. In the article Bocskocsky, Ezekowitz, and Stein, used a data set from 83,000 shot attempts throughout the 2012 2013 NBA season. From each shot taken, stats were recorded regarding the different aspects of the shot. First off, shot difficulty needs to be taken into account. Who is taking the shot will influence the probability of the shot going in, depending if it is a high percentage three point shooter taking the shot, or a center taking the three point shot. Another factor that has been taken into account is the amount of time left, and score differential. These two factors will heavily influence the mindset of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis and Historical Context from Second Treatise of... COMMENTARY OF SECOND TREATISE OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT : The previous fragment we ve read belongs to the work of John Locke, Second Treatise of Civil Government , who published it anonymously in 1689. It is a work of political philosophy, in which Locke talks about civil society, natural rights and separation of powers. Locke was one of the first empirical philosophers and he believed that the human being was born with no knowledge, and that experience and observation were the base of all human wisdom. In the text, Locke talks about how powers should be separated and not concentrated in the same person (the King) because he would be tempted, and in fact it was happening, to use them just to satisfy his desires. Locke also says that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Restoration of 1660, by restoring crown, church and lords, put Englishmen back once more under a system of government proven unworkable. With a king on the throne who still wanted to govern, and a group of dissatisfied men in parliament who wanted his government to be controlled by them, conflict was hard to avoid. But the civilian revolution did not happen until after Charles II s death in 1685. King Charles was succeeded by his brother James, who became James II of England and VII of Scotland. James is best known for his belief in absolute monarchy and his attempts to create religious liberty for his subjects against the wishes of the English Parliament. Increasingly members of Britain s political and religious elite opposed him as too pro French, too pro Catholic, and too much of an absolute monarch. When he produced a Catholic heir, the tension exploded and leading nobles called on William III of Orange (his son in law and nephew) to land an invasion army from the Netherlands. James fled England (and thus abdicated) in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. He was replaced by William of Orange who became king as William III, ruling jointly with his wife (James s daughter) Mary II. Thus William and Mary, both Protestants, became joint rulers in 1689. Parliament issued the Bill of Rights, which stipulated the rights and obligations of the monarch. William and Mary reigned jointly till 1694 when Mary died. Then, William continued to reign alone. These common descent, language, and culture. It is usually used to describe traditional tribes like the Eno or the San, but it can be used to describe non traditional tribes like a neighborhood or a soccer team. These can be called tribe because ,like the traditional tribes, they too have the same language and they too have a political party. • 6. The Civil Service Reform ( Csr ) 1.0Introduction/ Background Improvement, change and innovation are almost constant, as the service environment remains dynamic in tune to the trend of the society. Civil service reform (CSR) is one of the most intractable yet important challenges for governments and their supporters today. However, CSR might have failed in some states; this is not to say the process is not pertinent as governments and their supporters today seize opportunities availed by the reformation. To buttress this fact, Sarah (2012) posited reformation as a tool touches not only on government s very purpose of existence, but also on some of its most sensitive, protected areas. Authors like Sarah (2012), Antwi, Analoui and Nana Agyekum (2008) subscribed to the assertion that civil service is the backbone of the state, supporting or undermining the entire system of governance. This system of governance is however open to notable modifications termed reforms, since administrative heads change, and every administrator has his/her style. In this context, Evans, (2008) cited in Sarah (2012), traced the account of CSR and broke it into three phases. The first phase took place in the 1980s. This period was characterized largely by donors supporting various aspects of institutional development realizing the civil service s crucial role in changing policy. After the collapse of Communism and the failure of many of the aid programmes of the aforementioned phase, the 1990s saw a growing consensus that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

D. 6 November 2016 Introduction Organizations that behave ethically are more apt to earn the trust of their customers, employees, and stockholders. To become successful and hold a great reputation within any company, one must know right from wrong, but more importantly make those hard decisions to do what is right. Once a member within a corporation starts to cheat, steal, and coerce the system, it becomes a domino effect that leaves devastating ramifications. We will discuss issues like falsifying financial statements, improper use of company funds, ethical behaviors and unethical behaviors. Fairness The first virtue that I choose to discuss within this paper is the word fairness. Fair is defined as agreeing with what is thought to be right or acceptable; treating people in a way that does not favor some over others; not too harsh or critical (Merriam Webster Dictionary, n.d.). With this simple definition, Mattel founded Global Manufacturing Principles (GMP), whose intent was to identify and fix issues within their companies like wages an hours, child labor, forced labor, discrimination, freedom of association, legal and ethical business practices, product safety and product quality, just to name a few ( XX). Mattel set the standards of becoming a socially responsible corporation by putting into place GMP that ensured their corporation not only made money, but also treated ... White privilege is a word greatly used in social rights that advantage individuals to be acknowledged as white in Western countries, afar what is frequently proficient by non white individuals in the same social, political, or economic conditions (Rothenberg, 2016). • 19. Analysis Of Joseph J. Ellis s The Long Run Intro: Joseph J. Ellis starts out by stating in his preface that the American Revolution was both necessary and inevitable. The Revolution has been described as something that was already preordained, that, with the direction things had been headed in, the Revolution was bound to occur. With the size and power of the British army and navy, the rebellious disrupters in America should have been knocked down almost immediately, by logic s rules. Adjacent to this lies Ellis statement that, in the long run, the evolution of an independent American nation, gradually developing its political and economic strength over the nineteenth century...was probably inevitable (5). While the inevitability of America s evolution was to happen under British constraints, Ellis argument is that this was not the way history happened. His thesis argues that America s success was not a result that could be clearly predicted, that the advancement of America as its own entity was not like how it is seen as today. Ellis then splits off into talking about how we need to be both farsighted and nearsighted in order to truly see America s growth for what it is and has been. On the farsighted side, Ellis talks about how the isolation of North America and its large reserves of natural resources would have given America much potential to develop on its own. According to Ellis, if America could survive together for the first few stages of its development and then push through the British desire for control, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The characters in this playwright have all committed social crimes, with only two of the characters who actually commit legal crimes. This is where the title of the play is derived from. Some of the themes found in this play include death, imperfection, resentment, image, and hope. Henley s play takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride with the three sisters in the southern town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi in the mid 20th century. The three main characters in Crimes of the Heart are Lenny McGrath, Meg McGrath, and Babe Botrelle. Lenny is the oldest of the sisters and the play takes place during her 30th birthday. She is not married, and spends her time taking care of her sick grandfather who raised her and her sisters. Meg is the middle child who lives in California pursuing a singing career. Her career failed, she ended up being so depressed she ended up in a mental hospital, and she came home to hopefully get back with her ex fiancГ©, Doc Porter, which little does she know is married with two children. The youngest of the sisters is Babe Botrelle, who is married to Zachary Botrelle, the most successful man in town, but very unhappy. • 21. Gender and Life Expectancy Gender and Life Expectancy It s a phenomena seen in every population and every country: women live longer than men by 4 to 5 years everywhere. At first people tried to explain this fact by saying that men did more dangerous things and therefore died younger. Men ride motorcycles, don t go see the doctor and just take more risks. When the statisticians got done with the data, though, these explanations didn t really explain much. It seems women just live longer. In fact, men are around five times more likely to die from cardiovascular problems than women. Why could this be happening? Life expectancy in the human race has risen dramatically in the past century (Harris, 2009) reaching its highest level for both males and females on record (Office for National Statistics (ONS), 2006). Japan currently has the longest surviving individual with a life span averaging 84 years for both men and women (World Health Organization (WHO), 2006). According to Rooney et al (2004) the term life expectancy is defined as the number of years that somebody can expect to live, according to statistics (p. 1084).Over the last 100 years, the expectancy of life has increased and the overall goal is to live a long and healthy life. Some social scientists have predicted that the western population has a possible life span within the range of 85 100years. Others have suggested that with medical advances humans can be expected to live beyond these ages. The longest lived human on record was 122 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Julius Meyer Research Paper Julius Meyer was a German Chemist, born on August 19, 1830. At first he was interested in the physiological side of science, but then had a change in his mindset and decided to take up Chemistry. He was one of the first people to work on the Periodic Table, and if it weren t for him, the table would look nothing like it does today. He published his periodic table in 1870, it was inside of a textbook. (Grolier Education). Without Julius Meyer, there would be no periodic table as there is today. He was the human who realized that the properties of an element a part of the periodic table all depended on the atomic weight, (Chem Heritage). He had some of the very first ideas that led to the first copies of our periodic table in the 1870 s (Chem Heritage). Julius Lothar Meyer had figured out and organized 28 of the elements back in the 1800 s into six families. He did this by figuring out the physical and chemical characteristics that were similar to each other in each element. He organized them depending on the valence of each element. Valence is the number that represents combining power of an atomof a particular element. Meyer saw that there were some elements missing as he organized them according to the atomic weight, and left some spots... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 23. Aims and Development of the Penal System Within the Uk... Discuss the aims and development of the penal system within the UK over the last 200 years. In this essay I will be looking at the key developments of the British penal system since the early nineteenth century. I will also discuss how the main objectives of the prison system have changed over this period of time. The earliest origins of imprisonment was the use of holding defendants prior to trial and dates back to the 9th century. This early form of incarceration was not designed as a form of punishment, rather it was reserved for individuals unable to provide surety for loans or behaviour. The majority of these individuals were held within country gaols, although there were some purpose built gaols such as Tower and Fleet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the terms of the Act were often ignored and they only covered the main prisons and not the smaller gaols or debtor s prisons (Todd, 2002, p.118). By now the number of prisoners was increasing partly due to the decline in other forms of punishment, such as the stocks and branding, which were now viewed as outdated. Nevertheless many people still believed that prison should be concerned with punishment and deterrence, rather than the rehabilitation of criminals which was viewed as costly (Todd, 2002, p.119). In 1842 Pentonville prison was built using the panopticon design. This meant that each prisoner was now held in their own individual cell. Pentonville operated on the В‘separate system which involved almost total solitary confinement and elements such as education and work were largely ignored (www.howardleague.org/studycentre /historyofprison.htm). Support for the separate system declined in the second half of the 19th century and was gradually replaced by the В‘silent system . The silent system was introduced in 1865 and was originally used in America. Prisoners were still kept in solitary confinement for the first nine months and in addition were also forced to do В‘hard labour . Hard labour consisted of pointless unproductive work designed to deter prisoners from re offending. One of the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lululemon has seen a fall in the price of stock market shares due to these major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes. The Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to sheerness and see through ), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail markets. More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to effectively address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases, women s yoga pants were sheer enough to be see through when the material was stretched. Customers were then asked to bend over in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that the pants had, in fact, were see through due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This caused embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low quality customer service. Since that time the material has been continuously studied and improved. Ga was added to stabilize the p type conductivity and increase the band gap. It was also discovered that the addition of Na, either through the use of soda lime glass substrate or added during the growth process, helps to boost the conductivity of the material and control the film growth and free carrier concentration. (Orlando) The Reid Technique of interrogationconsists of essentially three steps. Custody and isolation (i.e., the suspect is detained and isolated, anxiety and uncertainty are generated in order to weaken resistance). Confrontation (i.e., the suspect s guilt is assumed and he or she is confronted with alleged incriminating evidence that may or may not be genuine; denials are rejected, even if they happen to be true, and the consequence of continued denial is emphasized), and minimization (i.e., the interrogator tries to gain the suspect s trust and provides face saving excuses for the crime, including suggesting that it was an accident or that the victim deserved it) (...) During the interrogation the investigators use tactics of imbedding trust to lure detainees to comply and achieve a legal outcome which could lead to reducing longer sentencing if the detainee confesses. Also if there are multiple co perpetrators investigators look to probe the detainee that someone has cast blame on the individual, so therefore they must engage with the policeand own up to their part in the crime (Douglas Rita). • 31. The Black Cat Analysis Edgar Allan Poe is one of the many poets known for using dark imagery to further the visual content of his text. In doing so, Poe uses his narrator in The Black Cat to communicate to his readers a series of household events in which he uses details that horrify and haunt the readers. Opening with mystery, the readers are able to quickly infer that Poe s narrator lacks common sense and rationality and that is what causes him become impulsive in his actions towards his loved ones. In this story, Poe writes through the eyes of an unnamed deceptive narrator who maltreats his wife and cat and relates how alcoholism and his oblivious views led him to their murder. By writing through the eyes of his narrator, Poe breaks the fictional barrier and creates a realism in the story which arouses his readers with the details about the murder of his wife and beloved cat. Poe s use of dark imagery contributes to the overall mood of the story by utilizing characterization, diction, and anxiety through his narrator. Poe develops the dark personality of his narrator throughout the story and allows the story to be told from a first person point of view which makes the story seem realistic. The narrator includes detailed descriptions of the torturous and murderous acts that were committed in this story and by doing this, the narrator holds the reader s attention. Poe characterizes the black cat in the story by naming the cat Pluto which, according to Moreland and Rodriguez, is ...an obvious reference to the ruler of Hades (Moreland, Rodriguez 209). The name of the cat is significant for this reason; Pluto the black cat, is named after a dark Greek ruler, which shows Poe wanted to characterize the black cat as an evil being. Poe illustrates the black cat as evil by describing it as entirely black and by saying that when the cat bit him the fury of a demon instantly possessed (Poe 5) him. Early in the story, when Poe first introduces the black cat he mentions an ancient popular notion, which regarded all black cats as witches in disguise (Poe 4), by adding this to the description of the cat it creates a dark image which foreshadows how the narrator feels later in the story towards the feline. Information Processing And The Human Mind Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events, translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory, cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and interference in perceptionand memory. More important to consider is the point at which the anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the anticipated costs of terminating conflict for a leader s domestic audience. Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars. This cost sensitivity argument has typically underpinned empirical observations on the tendency of democracies to fight uniformly shorter wars. Autocratic leaders, it was argued, do not labor under such restraints ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Creation Of Sputnik On October 4, 1957 the Soviet Union launched a satellite called Sputnik 1 into space. This marked the start of the space race. Americans were terrified of the chance of the Soviet s sending missiles from space. However Dwight. D. Eisenhower was not scared and did not do much. About a month later on November 3, 1957 the Soviets launched a new spacecraft called Sputnik 2. Sputnik 2 sent the first animal into space, it was named Laika. Lakia did not survive, but the Russians were in the lead. America decided to do something so they attempted to send Vanguard, ( satellite, nobody was in it) on December 6th 1957 into earth s orbit. • 42. The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s clear to see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a lovefactor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves plays a part in the plot of the story. The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31 32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. Psyche and Orual look at the Fox as a father figure because he acts as a true grandfather towards them (21). Storge is found between the three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Africa And American Civilizations The civilizations of America, Africa, and Europe each had their own political, economic, and religious systems that changed drastically when people from each continent encountered one another. In the Americas, the Native Americans had developed large and massive empires that would come to marvel the world. In Africa, there were are also large empires, home to millions of people. Western Europeon the other hand did not have any large empires or well organized societies. However, this would all change when the Europeans came in contact with the people in the Americas and Africa. It would be the Europeans that rose up while the other races fell. Before the Europeans arrived in the New World, it was filled with wealth and resources. When the Spanish first explored the New World they returned to Spain with strings of pearls and gold. The land was also full of Native Americans. The native people in the Americas had created some of the greatest empires in the world. These empires spread all across the New World especially in Mexico and Guatemala. These empires were home to over 60 million people. Most of these people lived in the great empires of the Aztecs and Incas, the two largest empires at the time. Both of these empires housed more people than most European cities at the time. The Aztecs had a diverse trade system that included tributes from the people to the leaders of the empire. They required tribute to be payed to them, typically consisting of gold, textiles, and cacao. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Catalase Activity Lab Report Effects Temperature and Substrate Concentration have on Enzyme Catalase Activity Abstract Enzymes are protein catalysts, which is a substance that speeds up the rate of a chemical reaction. The need of breaking down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen is growing because of the harmful toxins present. In the first experiment we hypothesized that as the substrate concentration increased, so did the reaction rate, therefore allowing more oxygen to be produced is less time. The first experiment mixed each substrate concentration, 0.8%, 0.4%, 0.2%, and 0.1% with a constant catalase buffer. The reaction time to fill a 10ml graduated cylinder with oxygen bubbles was documented in seconds and was then converted to milliliters of oxygen gathered per minute. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the buffer solution was placed with room temperature enzymes. This was around 25 degrees Celsius and was mixed with the 0.8% hydrogen peroxide in the flask. The 0.8% hydrogen peroxide stays the constant substrate concentration in this experiment as the enzyme temperature changed. Then the thoroughly mixed substances were watched and timed, waiting for 10ml to fill with oxygen, like in the previous experiment. The substrate concentration was then mixed with warm enzyme and tested. This was around 40 degrees Celsius. Next the substrate was mixed with ice cold enzymes which was 0 degrees Celsius. Lastly, the substrate was tested with the boiled catalase. Time was recorded for each. The results were recorded for both experiments and displayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Venice is a city with no roads. The houses are built along the canals. This means that it is of easy access to those trading by sea to the Mediterranean because they will not have to travel inland to trade. Although Venice itself does not have a natural resources, nearby cities have been conquered for farmland, so there are little natural resources. Venice is the center of trade because of its location. The currency here by gold coins, called the ducat, has a reliable worth and is valued everywhere. There is a strong economy because of the amount of trade occurring here.
