The Theme Of Friendship In Chaim Potok s The Chosen
Without friends, life is dull and tiresome, dragging slowly on until it feels too heavy to reverse the
effect. In The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, at first, Danny is lonely and sad without anyone who he
can openly talk to because of his distant relationship with his father. When Reuven, the protagonist,
coincidentally meets him in a baseball game, they start as enemies but quickly become great
friends. With a friend to help him, Danny suddenly brightens up and can open up about his
difficulties. Also, Danny and Reuven learn to overlook their differences, and only discover all the
similarities between them. Later, they start to complete everything together and bond tightly
together. The friendshipbetween Reuven and Danny helps them overcome their distinctive struggles.
At the beginning of The Chosen, Reuven despises Danny and thinks of him as an evil boy, but
later realizes Danny s great qualities. One day, Reuven is playing a baseball game against Danny
s team, and before the game starts, Reuven s team talks about Danny s team as murderers . During
the game, Danny throws the ball and accidentally hits Reuven in the glasses, resulting in Reuven
furthering his hate for Danny. Afterwards, when Danny visits Reuven in the hospital to apologize,
he is driven away by Reuven s cruel comments. For example, Reuven angrily replies to Danny s
apology by shouting, You can go to hell, and take your whole snooty bunch of Hasidism along with
you! (67). Later on, as Reuven learns more

The Federal Reserve System Essay
The Federal Reserve System
Even before the creation of the Federal Reserve, banks were used by the public just as we use
them today. Deposits were made into savings accounts. Loans were taken out to mortgage a home
or finance a new business. Banknotes were issued and spent when the public borrowed from the
banks. Borrowers spent these banknotes just as paper money is spent today. These bank notes
were valued as money since they were backed by the promise that they would be exchanged on
demand for either gold or silver.
There was the occasionally belief on behalf of the public that banks would not be able to, or
outright refuse to honor their banknotes. This fear, if held by enough of a community, could lead to
a run on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These actions led to the fall in prices of securities. Loans were liquidated and borrowing from
banks and other lenders became difficult. Interest rates would rise rapidly and sharply. This type of
financial hardship led to the liquidation of bank credit. Over a long enough span, this liquidation
would lead to money crises (Federal Reserve System 5th ed pp. 10 11). These periods of financial
panics along with the inelastic money supply had long beleaguered the country. Bank failures,
business bankruptcies, and unstable economic development were results of the lack of a central
banking system (Federal Reserve System 8th ed. pp. 6 7). The Panic of 1907 was a bank run of
epic proportions that exacerbated the problem. Depositors withdrew their savings from the second
and third largest banks in the country. These banks were not able to generate enough funds to
cover the demand and subsequently closed their doors. Their closings rapidly spread fear across
the country leading to one of the largest runs on the banks the nation had ever witnessed
(Schlesinger pp. 41).
Fortunately, J.P. Morgan, the exorbitantly rich New York businessman came to the aid of the
financial system. He organized a group of bankers who shifted their funds to the failing banks.
Depositors were assured their savings were protected and could be withdrawn whenever they
wanted. The demand subsided and

A Civil Action Film
In the movie A Civil Action we see many different concepts, terminology, and an over all realistic
view into the litigation process. This movie shows us what really life lawyers have to deal with
while their case is going though the legal system. A Civil Action gives the view great insight on
how the litigants and judges play a roll in this complex legal system we have that is not just black
in white.
Here we get a glimpse of what it is like to be a personal injury lawyer taking on a civil trail case
in a U.S. court. He we see that Jan Schlichtmann, the lead attorney in this case, is like many of
todays real life personal injury lawyers that work on contingency, where they only gets paid if they

Facher gets his way in not letting the families testify because the judge agrees with him that it
would be too much for the families. When repeat players and relationships between lawyers and
judges come into play this can change the course of a case as it has severely hurt Mr.
Schilichtmann s plan. This led to no closing augments in the trial in Beatrice Foods being found
not liable and the trial against W.R. Grace continues. The reason W.R. Grace is able to continue
is because they have deep pockets and can afford to continue in a trail. However, Schilichtmann
and his firm did not have deep pockets and after a long trail finally took a settlement and this was
the end of their fight. Schilichtmann later went on and had the case sent to the EPA where they
were able to appeal it because they had the money and the resources to unlike Schilichtmann. So
from this we can see that money plays a huge roll in the litigation

Legal Liberalism Calls For Equality
Legal liberalism calls for equality before the law; it was a manner to ensure that there shall be
equality before all citizens, protecting them from unjust statutes or acts the state may incorporate.
However, despite the protections in our constitution, there are instances in American history where
the Supreme Court has endorsed other branches to violate or limit its citizens economic freedom. In
this essay I will cite court cases and documents that incited conflict, most notably substantive due
process and liberty of contract. In light of these cases it prompted a massive transformation in
constitutional jurisprudence such as Equal protections clause, right to privacy, and criminal
defendants rights that moved the nation towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reaction, the butchers filed a lawsuit claiming that this Louisiana law violated their fundamental
rights to pursue happiness and to pursue their calling as butchers. They argued that the right was
protected under the privileges or immunities clause of the 14th amendment, which had been ratified
in 1848. In a 5 4 decision, the supreme Court conflicted with the butchers reasoning. The Supreme
Court ruled that the monopoly inflicted by the state did not violate the 13th and 14th amendments
(privilege and immunities clause); in other words, the claim did not forbid limits on the rights to
use one s property (Lecture). Essentially, the Supreme Court rendered the privileges and immunities
clause of the 14th amendment insignificant. In the Field and Bradley dissent, they argue that the
purpose of the immunities clause was to limit state action, Bradley went so far as to incorporating
the Bill of Rights into the dissent. The Slaughter house case is one of the Supreme Court s worst
decisions plus an example of the U.S. violating its Constitution. The 14th amendment, privileges
and immunities clause states: No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the
privileges or immunities of citizens of the

Human Organ Market Essay
Economic Analysis of a Human Organ Market Human organs have been transplanted for many
years. There are currently 123,940 people waiting for an organ in order to get their transplant. Of
that vast number, around 18 people die each day waiting for an organ ( Why Organ, Eye, and
Tissue Donation? n.d.). There has been some issues with human organ transplants whether it is
ethical or not. Another view on transplantation is to create a market for organs. With the increasing
number of people in search for an organ in order to save their life, the demand for human organs is
on the rise. As with any economic and ethical debate there are two viewpoints on this issue.
Proponents believe that it will eliminate the black market of human organ... Show more content on

When it is unknown whether the person was a donor, the next of kin could make the decision to
donate the deceased organs (Hansmann, n.d.). This act did not specify if the organs were subject to
sales however. The chairman of the committee involved in drafting the UAGA stated,
... it is possible, of course, that abuses may occur if payment could customarily be demanded, but
every payment is not necessarily unethical... Until the matter of payment becomes a problem of
some dimensions, the matter should be left to the decency of intelligent human beings (Hansmann,
n.d.).
The sales of organs remained uncertain until in 1984 when the National Organ Transplant Act
(NOTA) was established. The act established federal monetary support for nonprofit organ
attaining organizations and national organ and transplantation network to assist in matching
recipients with donors. NOTA also made commercial markets for organ transplants a federal
crime, and states also made different statues of their own outlawing sales of organs. As a result,
an effort to create a human organ market would require a repeal of amendment of legislation at
both the state and federal levels (Hansmann, n.d.). The ban of sale from this act was to encourage
altruism to benefit others by becoming a donor instead of being forced to become a donor.
As stated above, it has been a difficult process to make the provisions of transplantation clear and

The Manipulation Of The Narrator In Wallace s Northanger...
To further paint Henry as an oppressive and antagonistic force, Wallace likens his reductive
generalizations to the narrator s reductive generalizations of readers. For example, Wallace
claims that at the beginning of Northanger Abbey, the narrator quickly posits two kinds of
readers, one the naive reader of romance who would expect a heroine to be an orphan and to
engage in the more heroic enjoyments of infancy, nursing a dormouse, feeding a canary bird, or
watering a rosebush, and the second a more sophisticated reader who rejects romance and who
knows a parody when he sees one (Wallace 262). According to Wallace, the narrator holds a black
and white view of readers, where there are only two categories: naive and sophisticated. Therefore,

According to Wallace, throughout the text the narrator has been trying to manipulate the reader s
expectations (Wallace 266). The idea of the narrator manipulating the reader s expectations
closely mirrors the idea of Henry manipulating Catherine s responses. Additionally, Wallace
claims that following these aggressive manipulations, both Catherine and the reader experience
doubts, instability, and lack of confidence (Wallace 266). Wallace even provides violent imagery
of both Henry and narrator as antagonistic oppressors, alleging that the language of struggle and
capitulation used in passages involving Henry and Catherine also demonstrates what the
authoritative narrator can do to an insecure reader, who may contend and resist but is eventually
made captive to the narrator s will (Wallace 268). Moreover, Wallace uses this language of
oppressor and oppressed engaged in a violent physical battle again when she describes the
relationship between narrator and reader as one in which the reader becomes an opponent who
struggles with the narrator for control over the text (Wallace 262). Through her diction, Wallace
illustrates images of both Henry and the narrator as violent and oppressive antagonists who force
Catherine and the reader into a position where they lose the ability to think for

Case Study On GBL
1. As David Ganong, what is your analysis of the situation?

The confectionery industry was divided into four major product lines such as sugar confectionery,
chocolates, cocoa based products, and chewing gums. Most Canadian confectionary goods were

Reflecting On The Residential School System
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL SYSTEM
3. In reflecting on the Residential School System in Canada, discuss why Elders teachings and
courses in Indigenous studies are important today. Between 1875 and 1996, First Nations children
were forced to attended residential schools to be systematically assimilated into an English
Christian society through abuse, segregation, and racism. Residential schools were created by the
Canadian government to transition First Nations children into a newly colonized Canada, but
somewhere something went wrong and the policy of teaching was corrupted into assimilation
through abuse. The priority of residential schools was to kill the Indian in the child. As a result
many languages and cultures were lost as children were not taught the traditions of their heritages
and could not pass on this knowledge to their children. Residential schools directly contributed to
the loss of the First Nations traditional cultures and created a cycle of abuse for generations to come.
Dickason, Olive Patricia and Long, David. (2011). Visions of the Heart. Oxford University Press.
First Nations Elders maintain traditional lifestyles and beliefs. They continue to spread the oral
traditions that once were very well known. After residential schools were created a lot of
knowledge was lost from the First Peoples, and the Elders have become a primary source for this
knowledge perseverance.
Elders continue to accrue, especially both to their role and function and to the

History Of Dental Pulp Stem Cells
Introduction
Regeneration of tissues to replace diseased, missing and traumatized dentin/pulp emerges from
recent progress in stem cell and tissue engineering research. Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are
considered a promising population of cells in regenerative dentistry and have been shown to
produce dentin/pulp like tissues following implantation in vivo (Gronthos et al., 2000; Gronthos et
al., 2002; Shi et al., 2001). Importantly, DPSCs reside in the microvasculature region of the dental
pulp and interact with perivascular cells (Shi and Gronthos, 2003). Therefore, endothelial cells
could be a major source of modulators of pulp dentin development and angiogenesis. We recently
showed that co culture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with DPSCs enhances
osteo/odontogenic differentiation and angiogenesis in monolayer cultures (Dissanayaka et al.,
2012). However, the interactions of these two cells in angiogenesis and pulp like tissue regeneration
in vivo remain unknown.
Shaping functional dentin/pulp complex from monodispersed expanded cell cultures is an ongoing
challenge. Tissue engineers have thus mostly relied on biomaterials/scaffolds in which cells can
grow and differentiate. Several reports have shown that dental stem cells being seeded onto a
matrix scaffold and transplanted in vivo form a new tissue similar to that of the native pulp
(Cordeiro et al., 2008; Rosa et al., 2013). However, none of the scaffolds described so far has all the

Essay On Human Genome Sequencing
1.Current challenges in human genome sequencing
Technologies in sequencing are highly accurate but have limitations in read depth and read length.
Read depth refers to sequencing the highly repetitive regions of DNA with few to no errors.
Illumina HiSeq and PacBio have allowed geneticists to fill in the gaps of the human genome saving
time and money. In the scope of the read depth issue, researchers are still having issues with
undetectable structural variants (SV) including copy number variants (CNV) and small nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNP). (Bickhart, et al. 2017).
Illumina HiSeq is one of the more accurate forms of DNA sequencing technology, about 99%
accurate. The newest version of HiSeq is TruSeq nano and NEBNext Ultra. Sequencing ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New approaches to sequencing include Illumina, PacBio SMRT Chip technology and the nanopore
minION. Illumina is accurate about 99.9% of the time. PacBio is by far the most accurate of the
three sequencing technologies. Although the nanopore minION is not as accurate as PacBio SMRT
and Illumina, this technology is able to detect anomalies in the genome. All of these sequencing
technologies have a cost associated with them, but the Oxford Nanopore minION is the most
expensive.
Illumina is a less expensive way to sequence. At 99.9% accuracy, Illumina is able to provide short
read lengths to be analyzed using Phred. Phred is a base calling algorithm that calculates the
location of a fluorescent peak and records the base for that particular fluorescent label. This
technology is not ideal due to portability and sequencing prep. The DNA still has to be amplified to
create a cDNA library using bridge amplification. Illumina requires a polymerase and fluorescently
labeled dideoxynucleotide triphosphates (ddNTPs) followed by Sequencing by synthesis (SBS).
This is the final step in generating the wavelength reading of nucleotide bases. (White, et al. 2016)
The Oxford Nanopore minION sequencer is able to produce reads up to 300kb. Unlike Illumina and
PacBio, Nanopore technology can detect structural variants and cytosine modifications including
hydroxymethylcytosine, formylcytosine and methylcytosine. The purpose of this

Family means nobody gets left behind (or forgotten). I came to McGill University from a high
school environment that was not particularly inclusive, but frosh taught me how to further involve
my peers to have an even better experience. Whenever one is in a group setting, it is important to
make sure everyone feels welcomed without damaging the social structure of the current group
context. In other words, it isn t right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but
it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer.
Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively
incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the
participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in
that particular event. Inclusivity during science events is easy (especially in regards to alcohol) if
everyone recognizes the opt in environment, i.e. alcohol is an opt in activity, not one you have to

Trump has not demonstrated an understanding of national and international concepts, such as the
Geneva Convention. He has claimed that, should he be elected, the military will begin targeting
the families of terrorists. In addition, the use of torture to interrogate criminals will be
supported, including the return of waterboarding. Both proposals are violations of the Geneva
Convention, which has been explained to him with no effect. Not only should these severe
lapses of judgement be alarming, but Trump s lack of diplomacy has insulted at least 217
different people, objects, and places, including foreign nations, as shown in the list compiled by
Jasmine Lee and Kevin Quealy of the New York Times. His degradations are sometimes attempts
to limit the speech of the targeted party as revenge, such as spreading rumors that Forbes, the

really bad people who knowingly print lies, and even, in the case of the Wall Street Journal, bad

In the health sector, Ralph Yarbrough co sponsored the Medicare Bill that brought about ease of
access to health services by old people. It made available insurance on the wellbeing of the
financially challenged and the senior citizens (Cox Patrick). Kay, on the other hand, enacted a
policy that mainly touched on women s health. Senator Hutchison, together with the senator of
Maryland wrote a policy that enabled women at home to have collateral for their old age just as
those that were in the white collar jobs. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Kay also secured money
amounting to more than seventy million dollars that could help finance the treatment of Texan
Veterans who suffered from the Gulf War Syndrome.
Whereas Senator Ralph Yarborough was an opponent of the Veteran War of the Texans, Kay
Hutchison was a protagonist of the rights of the veterans in the state. Senator Ralph is considered
to have been one of the best policymakers in the history of Texas. Having been a senator from the
South and a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War, Ralph is famously known as the only senator who
voted for the Civil Rights Act, (Silbey Joel). On the contrary, Kay championed for the upgrading of
education for the Texan Veterans. Senator Hutchison further advocated the healthcare policies for

The Mystery of the Lost Colony
For centuries the disappearance of the Roanoke colonists has been one of the great mysteries in
the historical community. Within the span of three years, 120 colonists disappeared from an
English colony on Roanoke Island, a small piece of land off the coast of North Carolina. The
evidence left behind barely gives us a clue as to what could have happened to the entire colony.
With the testimony of John White, the leader of the colony that left the settlement to get more
supplies, and what little evidence there is, there have been many theories as to what actually caused
the disappearance. When trying to make a logical conclusion about the disappearance of the 120
inhabitants of the colony at Roanoke, there are many factors to consider.... Show more content on

The purpose of this overtly hostile action was to obtain information from the chief about the
defensive capabilities of the surrounding Indian nations. This action only served to alienate the tribe
and force the settlers to depend on the fruits of their own labors... within months the first Roanoke
colony was in disarray and the settlers were near starving (Croatoan).
The colony barely lasted until Sir Francis Drake s fleet sailed by in 1586 when Drake offered
supplies or a trip back to their homeland. The settlers, starving and homesick, quickly accept the
offer and return to England. Not even a week later a relief ship arrives with supplies to discover
the settlement abandoned. The supply ship left fifteen men with a reasonable amount of food
before departing (The Settlement). Raleigh s first colony was an instructive test run for a second,
more planned effort. He determined that if the colony was relocated 80 miles north in the
Chesapeake Bay shipping would be essentially easier. He also decided to reconfigure the core of
the colony by allowing seventeen women, nine children, and two ex convicts under their new
leader. John White was the expeditionary artist during Lane s colony and

Naturalistic Observations Of Naturalistic Observation
What is naturalistic observation? How does a researcher collect data when conducting naturalistic
observation research?
Naturalistic observation gathers data to provide a complete and accurate picture of what occurs
in a setting, (Cozby Bates, 2014, P. 119). The observation describes qualitatively events such as
how people make decisions and how they solve problems using the skills individually and
sometimes as a group think (Cozby Bates, 2014). Naturalistic observations take place in a
normative setting such as sports event, work cycle, and observes behaviors in general or in a
particular setting. The observation supports information on previously acquired skill such as natural

2016, P.59). Observational study in a naturalistic setting allows the participants to feel comfortable
expressing how they think and feel about difficult topics and discussions. Those observations
become the story of that which is studied. Grounded theory, according to Trochim et al. (2006)
creates a setting where the researcher develops theories and questions and then uses the qualitative
data to expand the theory and questions with links of understanding (P. 62). Those links of
understanding help provide a better how and why of research.
Distinguish between participant and nonparticipant observation; between concealed and
unconcealed observation.
Cresswell (2009) elaborates on the different roles of the researcher in observation (P. 182). The
roles of an observer include conducting observation as a participant or just an observer, or
unconcealed. The roles of observer can also include spending time as a participant and then
becoming an observer or spending more time as an observer or participant and then filling the
opposing role (observer or participant). Another role option for the observer is to observe from the
outside and move into the setting, not as a participant but rather situated in the setting. Depending
on the frame of the information gathered any of these situations are acceptable as the data
gathering or researcher doesn t become intrusive or exclusive in whom they observe to prove a
point.

the way out for every character of the play. Moreover, the story s name The Glass Menagerie,

comparison a short distance and a long distance trip will be used. Both trips will be a business trip

TX (long trip). The analysis can then be used by the business to compare and contrast the best
solution.
Commercial Air Travel
The commercial airline selected for the business trip is Alaska Airlines. The airline is the ideal
carrier because Seattle is Alaska Airline s hub, making it the best choice for both trips. It s
important to point put today that commercial airlines face an overwhelming high volume of
travelers. With more and more passengers traveling via commercial airlines, one of challenges
business travelers face today is the longer wait times through the TSA security check point, delayed
flights, overbooked flights, and even flight cancellations. This in return can cost a business a deal,
increase business travel time, and add to the travel cost. For many business travelers time is money.

Mongol Terror, Mongol Peace Dbq Essay
Nigel Lewis November 17, 2010 2nd Period DBQ: The Mongol Terror, Mongol Peace Although
many Mongols conquered peoples of Eurasia viewed the invasion as negative during the 13th and
14th centuries, many viewed this intrusion as positive According to Carpini and William of
Rubrick, they both have positive things to say about the Mongols. I say this because document 1
states that the Mongols pay their lords more respect than any other people, and would hardly dare
lie to them (Doc #1). I think this document is mainly positive because of the fact that the writer
states that the Mongols are people that show good respect to their gods and lord. On the other hand

Even though there were 18 of them and 1 Tater, they wouldn t try to kill the one Tater and flee
because they were to scared (Doc #6). So basically every village or quarter the Taters entered,
everyone would become scared because they know that the Taters are all filled with evil. Ibn al
atir had a negative point of view because they both have to do with killing people that are one of
their kinds. An alternative of Mongol expansion can be seen through travelers of that time who
were Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta. Document 2 reports on Marco Polo travels through Paris.
Marco discovered that Paris is so favorably situated that it is a market for merchants from India
and Baghdad (Doc #2). Throughout his travels, he learned that the Tater leadership would do
great mischief to traveling merchants. So that is just another example for why people really
dislike the Tater (Mongols). Document 5 talked about the North African Muslim traveler named
Ibn Battuta. During his travels he discovered that the Chinese are infidels and they worship idols
and burn their dead as the Indians do (Doc #5). The Chinese king was a Tater so that explains it
all. Taters were not good people back then. So it is clear that the Mongols had different affects on
people during their expansion westward. As the Mongols expanded throughout the territories, many
people viewed this as a negative impact. On the other hand, the Mongols let the people they

Wu Cheng s The Journey To The West
Chapter one of Wu Cheng en s classical story, The Journey to the West, introduces the main

lived equally along with gibbons and baboons who he considered his kin until he was appointed to
king of the Blessed Land of Flower Fruit Mountain. This transition from an unstructured, free will
society to an orderly kingdom portrays the social changes humans experienced when dynasties
arose in civilization. After Monkey gained the title of king, certain changes occurred. Immediately
after he claimed the position, his peers lined up according to rank and age , praising Monkey by

Prior to Monkey becoming king, a poem in the beginning of the chapter claims they played two
games or three with pebbles and with pellets; they circled sandy pits, they built rare pagodas, they
chased dragonflies.... which are activities that allowed the population to live in a carefree, playful
environment (Cheng en, 174). After Monkey became king, their activities depended on the
season, which another poem portrays; In the spring they gathered flowers for food and drink. In
the summer they went in quest of fruits for sustenance. In the autumn they amassed taros and
chestnuts to ward off time. In the winter they searched for yellow sperms to live out the year
(Cheng en, 178). The newly civilized, ruled monkeys no longer roamed aimlessly playing with one
another, but had jobs that would ensure their survival. This societal change is also reflected in the
late Ming dynasties idea of radical individualism. In this time, the text argues that personal freedom
had been celebrated at the expense of social responsibility (World Literature, 169). The monkeys
now had responsibilities to attend to, likely with the king s instruction, when before they were

The Intrinsic Value Of Facebook
What is the intrinsic value of a Facebook share? How does this valuation compare to the price
talk from underwriters? The intrinsic value of Facebook stock was very difficult to find, since the
company is relatively new and has been growing at an extreme rate. Based on the most recent sale
of Facebook stockvia a private transaction the per share price was $44 in March. However, based
on the DCF analysis by professor Aswath Damodaran the intrinsic value of a single Facebook
share would be $32.44. The problem is whenever using DCF analysis; the analysis is very
sensitive to all assumptions uses, which were plenty in the case of Facebook. The price talk
from underwriters varied immensely within the time from of February when the Red Herring
was filed, all the way to May. At the very beginning, price talks were anywhere from $20 mid $30
s. They were set to offer 337,415,352 shares. As the broader market continued in bullish trend
and momentum for the Facebook IPO became greater. Price talks now shifted to $28 $35 range.
Knowing that demand for the stock was said to be growing it was noted that many IPO are
priced conservative to leave room for a pop on the first day of trading. On May 11 CNBC made
a statement along the lines that demand was much greater than supply for the stock. Shortly after

Communication processes are sign mediated interactions between at least two agents which share a
repertoire of signs and semiotic rules. Communication is commonly defined as the imparting or
interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs . Communication can
be perceived as a two way process in which there is an exchange and progression of thoughts,
feelings or ideas towards a mutually accepted goal or direction.
Communication includes six components: Context, Sender encoder, messages, medium, receiver
decoder and feedback.
1. Context Every message, whether oral or written, begins with context. Context is a broad field
that includes country, culture, organization and external and internal stimuli.
2. Sender Encoder As a sender encoder, you use symbols that express your message and create the
desired response.
3. Message You must first decide what the main point of your message is and what other
information to include.
4. Medium Your Medium can be the printed words, electronic mail or sound, image, voice, bill
boards etc
5. Receiver Decoder The receiver decoder is influenced by context and by his or her mental filter

My Visit to Centennial Village Historical Site in Greeley
I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed visiting the Centennial Village historical site
in Greeley. I happened to visit this museum on the perfect day because there were children from
different schools dressed up and living how the people in Northern Colorado lived more than
100 years ago. With the children all dressed up like people used to dress, and doing the chores
that they used to take on really made it the feel like I was back in time. I got to experience dozens
of historical sites, live animals, schools, and businesses that really helped me understand part of
Northern Colorado s history.
One of my favorite parts about this museum was how we got to see all the different immigrants
homes that made this region so culturally diverse. If I were living in Colorado around these times I
most likely would be living in a Stone House because teachers typically lived in these types of
houses. These houses where located on Eagle s Nest Ranch right out of Greeley and were made
up of stones. These houses where primarily made up for ranchers and teachers. Another type of
house is called the Swedish American House, (STUGA) these homes tend to be a little nicer than
the Stone houses and reflect a blend of Old and New World Culture. These one room framed
dwellings with a boxer roof were typically houses for the Swedish immigrants. Another group that

Benefits Of Staying Single In Japan
Staying Single is Popular in Japan When people talk about what family is, the first image in my
mind is that a father and his son are sitting on the deep green grass beside a jewelry blue lake,
and colorful birds are singing while the sun is shining on their smiling faces, which is a good
example from Once More to the Lake (White). What is a family? In my opinion, a family is that
the people have the close relationship and share the responsibility for each other. In a family,
people love each other and follow the same value, and they share the same sorrow and happiness,
and they support each other, such as the father s helping his son to do carpentry from The
Inheritance of Tools (Sanders). Considering for these, a family seems like at least two persons in
people s traditional opinions. If more and more people want to stay single instead of getting
married, what and how will affect our society? I have some Japanese friends in International
Education Center, which is an ESL school for international students. They tell me that living
single has been popular in Japan, and they have some relatives who prefer to a single life.
Staying single in Japan is increasing because of the pressure of finances for supporting a family,
and this kind of trend results in the growth rate of population is declining, which gives a great
challenge to Japanese society. There are more people who want to stay single, which is a
significant trend in Japan. The reason might be that it is more

H. G. Wells was a Famous English Author of Science-fiction...
Wells, H. G. (1866 1946), was a famous English novelist, historian, science writer, and author of
science fiction stories. Wells s novel Tono Bungay (1909) best reveals his varied talents. The novel,
a story of the dishonest promotion of a patent medicine, contains social criticism tinged with satire.
In it, Wells described trips in airplanes and submarines at a time when such journeys seemed like
science fiction.
Herbert George Wells was born on Sept. 21, 1866, in Bromley, Kent (now part of London). He
drew on his lower middle class background in some of his finest novels, including Kipps (1905)
and The History of Mr. Polly (1909). His training as a scientist is reflected in his imaginative
science fiction stories. The Time Machine (1895) describes the adventures of a man who can
transport himself into the future. Wells wrote about an invasion from Mars in The War of the
Worlds (1898) and described a fictional utopia in The Shape of Things to Come (1933).
Wells supported social reform in the novel The New Machiavelli (1911), in the nonfiction study
The Work, Wealth and Happiness of Mankind (1932), and in other books. He wrote The Outline
of History (1920), a story of the development of the human race. The book shows Wells s
knowledge of biology and his liberal attitude in politics. With his son Geoffrey and Sir Julian
Huxley, Wells wrote The Science of Life (1929 1930), a four volume discussion of the principles of
biology. Wells told his life story in Experiment in

Era Of Good Feelings Essay
The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James Monroe s
presidency, following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the Louisiana Purchase, which
nearly doubled the size of American land and proved the Federalist party didn t have much as they
opposed the purchase, and fighting against the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy
respect made people in America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was
mostly characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become the
single party in the United Statesafter Monroe won against Rufus King, his Federalist opponent in
the 1816 election. Nationalism would have a large influence on many features of American culture
and economics; however, there were also many tensions growing during this time as well. There
was much discourse over issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The
Republican party was the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what
was once Federalist policies. Sectional differences over slaveryand states rights would also have a
major impact on politics and economics, with greater importance than the results of nationalistic
influences.
Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert Stuart, Charles
Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes. Parson Mason Weems wrote a
fictitious biography of George Washington.

In reimagining Chekhov s story through her own eyes, Oates has allowed her Anna room for a
development that Chekhov s Anna does not have, therefore making her the more psychologically
complex of the two women. Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are
sometimes vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify
with them as they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to
recognise how the carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution,
together with the development of their affair throughout the story. At Yalta, a vacation spot of
alleged immorality, Gurov and Anna are allowed the freedom to act without the supervision of
their controlling spouses. Moreover, the resort is densely packed with romantic elements the

Statement Of Purpose For Journalism

Fate vs Free Will- Romeo and Juliet West Side Story Essay
The Walls Go Crashing Down When two people are meant to be together, no time is too long
(Anonymous). Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and West Side Story by Arthur
Laurents show the pure evils of acting extremely hastily and how it can change the outlook on
the future. Romeo and Juliet are two young lovers who were taught to hate one another and who
suffer deeply because of the consequences of fate. Romeo and Juliet s deaths were sure to be
tragic as was hinted at early on throughout the play. Both families suffer with the loss of their
children as well as other family members. Maria and Tony are split from one another because of
extreme violence, hatred, and the differences between their New York City gangs. Each of them...

Forswear it, sight!/ For ne er saw true beauty till this night (I.v.52 53). Had the servant be literate,
Romeo would not have known about the party, which happens to be quite a coincidence of fate
because he meets Juliet there. Consequently, after Romeo gets the news from Balthasar that Juliet
is dead, he goes to visit an apothecary to get a vial of poison because he plans to kill himself. It is
fate that he found an apothecary that was poor. Had Romeo visited an apothecary that was not
poor, he would not have gotten the poison. On the contrary, Romeo made the conscious decision to
drink the poison he bought, next to Juliet. Therefore, if Romeo would have waited another five
minutes until Juliet woke up from the dead and saw she was still alive, they could have been
together, happy and in love. This definitely shows that they were not meant to be together. It was
fate that brought these two children of enemies together, although they made a few choices along
the way, too. West Side Story is based on free will, the choices the characters make throughout the
musical. There was so much tension and hate that built up between the gangs that they turned to an
altercation to settle the situation fairly. After the death of the three teenagers, two at the fight under
the bridge and Tony getting shot by Chino, Maria tells the other members of the gangs, All of you
killed him! And my brother, and Riff. Not with bullets, or guns, with hate

Life Of Pi Close Reading Analysis

Yann Martel manipulates the narrative style and structural devices within this passage to support
the will to survive theme that is present in Life of Pi. Before the shipwreck, Pi was a spiritual
individual with a strong appreciation for the joy and peace in life. Pi commonly experienced
cruelty and doubt from his family and friends; however, he remained calm by following the
guidance from his three religions. After the shipwreck, the spirituality within Pi s life was tampered
with because the chaotic and brute actions of the animals threatened to separate Pi from his
peaceful demeanour. At first, Pi maintained his interaction with God, but as the days passed and the
conditions worsened, Pi s animal instincts began to develop. ... Show more content on

Richard Parker is a manifestation of the qualities that Pi needs; however, an abundance of these
qualities will contribute to Pi s downfall. This concept is also represented later in the book when
the blind French cook tries to trick Pi. The cook s primitive side overpowered him, causing him
to die in the jaws of Richard Parker. If Pi did not tame his savagery, he would have been
consumed by it, which would be represented by a fatal attack from Richard Parker. While
contemplating the confrontation of his survival instincts, Pi says, to know that and to apply it
are two very different things (Martel 246). This quotation describes the concept of survival in a
lifeboat and in the real world. In both settings, it is difficult to deny yourself access to something
that is lurking inside of you and pushing with so much force. Whether this quality is easily
spotted or difficult to uncover, it is important to study it and decide if it is changing your
character. Fortunately, Pi discovered early in his journey that the primitive qualities he was
developing for survival were threatening to dominate him. After taming his savagery, Pi is pleased
with his decisions and says Isn t that what all survivors say? (Martel 247). This quotation depicts
the satisfaction in taming your inner self, while still allowing your fierce qualities to live in small

  • 2. The Theme Of Friendship In Chaim Potok s The Chosen Without friends, life is dull and tiresome, dragging slowly on until it feels too heavy to reverse the effect. In The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, at first, Danny is lonely and sad without anyone who he can openly talk to because of his distant relationship with his father. When Reuven, the protagonist, coincidentally meets him in a baseball game, they start as enemies but quickly become great friends. With a friend to help him, Danny suddenly brightens up and can open up about his difficulties. Also, Danny and Reuven learn to overlook their differences, and only discover all the similarities between them. Later, they start to complete everything together and bond tightly together. The friendshipbetween Reuven and Danny helps them overcome their distinctive struggles. At the beginning of The Chosen, Reuven despises Danny and thinks of him as an evil boy, but later realizes Danny s great qualities. One day, Reuven is playing a baseball game against Danny s team, and before the game starts, Reuven s team talks about Danny s team as murderers . During the game, Danny throws the ball and accidentally hits Reuven in the glasses, resulting in Reuven furthering his hate for Danny. Afterwards, when Danny visits Reuven in the hospital to apologize, he is driven away by Reuven s cruel comments. For example, Reuven angrily replies to Danny s apology by shouting, You can go to hell, and take your whole snooty bunch of Hasidism along with you! (67). Later on, as Reuven learns more ... • 3. The Federal Reserve System Essay The Federal Reserve System Even before the creation of the Federal Reserve, banks were used by the public just as we use them today. Deposits were made into savings accounts. Loans were taken out to mortgage a home or finance a new business. Banknotes were issued and spent when the public borrowed from the banks. Borrowers spent these banknotes just as paper money is spent today. These bank notes were valued as money since they were backed by the promise that they would be exchanged on demand for either gold or silver. There was the occasionally belief on behalf of the public that banks would not be able to, or outright refuse to honor their banknotes. This fear, if held by enough of a community, could lead to a run on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These actions led to the fall in prices of securities. Loans were liquidated and borrowing from banks and other lenders became difficult. Interest rates would rise rapidly and sharply. This type of financial hardship led to the liquidation of bank credit. Over a long enough span, this liquidation would lead to money crises (Federal Reserve System 5th ed pp. 10 11). These periods of financial panics along with the inelastic money supply had long beleaguered the country. Bank failures, business bankruptcies, and unstable economic development were results of the lack of a central banking system (Federal Reserve System 8th ed. pp. 6 7). The Panic of 1907 was a bank run of epic proportions that exacerbated the problem. Depositors withdrew their savings from the second and third largest banks in the country. These banks were not able to generate enough funds to cover the demand and subsequently closed their doors. Their closings rapidly spread fear across the country leading to one of the largest runs on the banks the nation had ever witnessed (Schlesinger pp. 41). Fortunately, J.P. Morgan, the exorbitantly rich New York businessman came to the aid of the financial system. He organized a group of bankers who shifted their funds to the failing banks. Depositors were assured their savings were protected and could be withdrawn whenever they wanted. The demand subsided and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movie shows us what really life lawyers have to deal with while their case is going though the legal system. A Civil Action gives the view great insight on how the litigants and judges play a roll in this complex legal system we have that is not just black in white. Here we get a glimpse of what it is like to be a personal injury lawyer taking on a civil trail case in a U.S. court. Facher gets his way in not letting the families testify because the judge agrees with him that it would be too much for the families. When repeat players and relationships between lawyers and judges come into play this can change the course of a case as it has severely hurt Mr. Schilichtmann s plan. This led to no closing augments in the trial in Beatrice Foods being found not liable and the trial against W.R. Grace continues. The reason W.R. Grace is able to continue is because they have deep pockets and can afford to continue in a trail. However, Schilichtmann and his firm did not have deep pockets and after a long trail finally took a settlement and this was the end of their fight. Schilichtmann later went on and had the case sent to the EPA where they were able to appeal it because they had the money and the resources to unlike Schilichtmann. Legal Liberalism Calls For Equality Legal liberalism calls for equality before the law; it was a manner to ensure that there shall be equality before all citizens, protecting them from unjust statutes or acts the state may incorporate. However, despite the protections in our constitution, there are instances in American history where the Supreme Court has endorsed other branches to violate or limit its citizens economic freedom. In this essay I will cite court cases and documents that incited conflict, most notably substantive due process and liberty of contract. In light of these cases it prompted a massive transformation in constitutional jurisprudence such as Equal protections clause, right to privacy, and criminal defendants rights that moved the nation towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reaction, the butchers filed a lawsuit claiming that this Louisiana law violated their fundamental rights to pursue happiness and to pursue their calling as butchers. They argued that the right was protected under the privileges or immunities clause of the 14th amendment, which had been ratified in 1848. In a 5 4 decision, the supreme Court conflicted with the butchers reasoning. The Supreme Court ruled that the monopoly inflicted by the state did not violate the 13th and 14th amendments (privilege and immunities clause); in other words, the claim did not forbid limits on the rights to use one s property (Lecture). Essentially, the Supreme Court rendered the privileges and immunities clause of the 14th amendment insignificant. In the Field and Bradley dissent, they argue that the purpose of the immunities clause was to limit state action, Bradley went so far as to incorporating the Bill of Rights into the dissent. The Slaughter house case is one of the Supreme Court s worst decisions plus an example of the U.S. violating its Constitution. The 14th amendment, privileges and immunities clause states: No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the ... • 7. Human Organ Market Essay Economic Analysis of a Human Organ Market Human organs have been transplanted for many years. There are currently 123,940 people waiting for an organ in order to get their transplant. Of that vast number, around 18 people die each day waiting for an organ ( Why Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation? n.d.). There has been some issues with human organ transplants whether it is ethical or not. Another view on transplantation is to create a market for organs. With the increasing number of people in search for an organ in order to save their life, the demand for human organs is on the rise. As with any economic and ethical debate there are two viewpoints on this issue. Proponents believe that it will eliminate the black market of human organ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it is unknown whether the person was a donor, the next of kin could make the decision to donate the deceased organs (Hansmann, n.d.). This act did not specify if the organs were subject to sales however. The chairman of the committee involved in drafting the UAGA stated, ... it is possible, of course, that abuses may occur if payment could customarily be demanded, but every payment is not necessarily unethical... Until the matter of payment becomes a problem of some dimensions, the matter should be left to the decency of intelligent human beings (Hansmann, n.d.). The sales of organs remained uncertain until in 1984 when the National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) was established. The act established federal monetary support for nonprofit organ attaining organizations and national organ and transplantation network to assist in matching recipients with donors. NOTA also made commercial markets for organ transplants a federal crime, and states also made different statues of their own outlawing sales of organs. As a result, an effort to create a human organ market would require a repeal of amendment of legislation at both the state and federal levels (Hansmann, n.d.). The ban of sale from this act was to encourage altruism to benefit others by becoming a donor instead of being forced to become a donor. As stated above, it has been a difficult process to make the provisions of transplantation clear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Manipulation Of The Narrator In Wallace s Northanger... To further paint Henry as an oppressive and antagonistic force, Wallace likens his reductive generalizations to the narrator s reductive generalizations of readers. For example, Wallace claims that at the beginning of Northanger Abbey, the narrator quickly posits two kinds of readers, one the naive reader of romance who would expect a heroine to be an orphan and to engage in the more heroic enjoyments of infancy, nursing a dormouse, feeding a canary bird, or watering a rosebush, and the second a more sophisticated reader who rejects romance and who knows a parody when he sees one (Wallace 262). According to Wallace, the narrator holds a black and white view of readers, where there are only two categories: naive and sophisticated. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Wallace, throughout the text the narrator has been trying to manipulate the reader s expectations (Wallace 266). The idea of the narrator manipulating the reader s expectations closely mirrors the idea of Henry manipulating Catherine s responses. Additionally, Wallace claims that following these aggressive manipulations, both Catherine and the reader experience doubts, instability, and lack of confidence (Wallace 266). Wallace even provides violent imagery of both Henry and narrator as antagonistic oppressors, alleging that the language of struggle and capitulation used in passages involving Henry and Catherine also demonstrates what the authoritative narrator can do to an insecure reader, who may contend and resist but is eventually made captive to the narrator s will (Wallace 268). Moreover, Wallace uses this language of oppressor and oppressed engaged in a violent physical battle again when she describes the relationship between narrator and reader as one in which the reader becomes an opponent who struggles with the narrator for control over the text (Wallace 262). Through her diction, Wallace illustrates images of both Henry and the narrator as violent and oppressive antagonists who force Catherine and the reader into a position where they lose the ability to think for ... • 10. Reflecting On The Residential School System RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL SYSTEM 3. In reflecting on the Residential School System in Canada, discuss why Elders teachings and courses in Indigenous studies are important today. Between 1875 and 1996, First Nations children were forced to attended residential schools to be systematically assimilated into an English Christian society through abuse, segregation, and racism. Residential schools were created by the Canadian government to transition First Nations children into a newly colonized Canada, but somewhere something went wrong and the policy of teaching was corrupted into assimilation through abuse. The priority of residential schools was to kill the Indian in the child. As a result many languages and cultures were lost as children were not taught the traditions of their heritages and could not pass on this knowledge to their children. Residential schools directly contributed to the loss of the First Nations traditional cultures and created a cycle of abuse for generations to come. Dickason, Olive Patricia and Long, David. (2011). Visions of the Heart. Oxford University Press. First Nations Elders maintain traditional lifestyles and beliefs. They continue to spread the oral traditions that once were very well known. • 11. History Of Dental Pulp Stem Cells Introduction Regeneration of tissues to replace diseased, missing and traumatized dentin/pulp emerges from recent progress in stem cell and tissue engineering research. Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are considered a promising population of cells in regenerative dentistry and have been shown to produce dentin/pulp like tissues following implantation in vivo (Gronthos et al., 2000; Gronthos et al., 2002; Shi et al., 2001). Importantly, DPSCs reside in the microvasculature region of the dental pulp and interact with perivascular cells (Shi and Gronthos, 2003). Therefore, endothelial cells could be a major source of modulators of pulp dentin development and angiogenesis. We recently showed that co culture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with DPSCs enhances osteo/odontogenic differentiation and angiogenesis in monolayer cultures (Dissanayaka et al., 2012). However, the interactions of these two cells in angiogenesis and pulp like tissue regeneration in vivo remain unknown. Shaping functional dentin/pulp complex from monodispersed expanded cell cultures is an ongoing challenge. Tissue engineers have thus mostly relied on biomaterials/scaffolds in which cells can grow and differentiate. Several reports have shown that dental stem cells being seeded onto a matrix scaffold and transplanted in vivo form a new tissue similar to that of the native pulp (Cordeiro et al., 2008; Rosa et al., 2013). However, none of the scaffolds described so far has all the structure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay On Human Genome Sequencing 1.Current challenges in human genome sequencing Technologies in sequencing are highly accurate but have limitations in read depth and read length. Read depth refers to sequencing the highly repetitive regions of DNA with few to no errors. Illumina HiSeq and PacBio have allowed geneticists to fill in the gaps of the human genome saving time and money. In the scope of the read depth issue, researchers are still having issues with undetectable structural variants (SV) including copy number variants (CNV) and small nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). Sequencing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New approaches to sequencing include Illumina, PacBio SMRT Chip technology and the nanopore minION. Illumina is accurate about 99.9% of the time. PacBio is by far the most accurate of the three sequencing technologies. Although the nanopore minION is not as accurate as PacBio SMRT and Illumina, this technology is able to detect anomalies in the genome. All of these sequencing technologies have a cost associated with them, but the Oxford Nanopore minION is the most expensive. Illumina is a less expensive way to sequence. At 99.9% accuracy, Illumina is able to provide short read lengths to be analyzed using Phred. Phred is a base calling algorithm that calculates the location of a fluorescent peak and records the base for that particular fluorescent label. This technology is not ideal due to portability and sequencing prep. The DNA still has to be amplified to create a cDNA library using bridge amplification. Illumina requires a polymerase and fluorescently labeled dideoxynucleotide triphosphates (ddNTPs) followed by Sequencing by synthesis (SBS). This is the final step in generating the wavelength reading of nucleotide bases. (White, et al. 2016) The Oxford Nanopore minION sequencer is able to produce reads up to 300kb. Unlike Illumina and PacBio, Nanopore technology can detect structural variants and cytosine modifications including hydroxymethylcytosine, formylcytosine and methylcytosine. The purpose of this ... The roles of observer can also include spending time as a participant and then becoming an observer or spending more time as an observer or participant and then filling the opposing role (observer or participant). To help with this comparison a short distance and a long distance trip will be used. Both trips will be a business trip in nature and each include myself and three additional colleagues. The business trip is set for July 12th. The departure location is Seattle, WA to Boise, ID (short trip) and Seattle, WA to Houston, TX (long trip). The analysis can then be used by the business to compare and contrast the best solution. Commercial Air Travel The commercial airline selected for the business trip is Alaska Airlines. The airline is the ideal carrier because Seattle is Alaska Airline s hub, making it the best choice for both trips. It s important to point put today that commercial airlines face an overwhelming high volume of travelers. With more and more passengers traveling via commercial airlines, one of challenges business travelers face today is the longer wait times through the TSA security check point, delayed flights, overbooked flights, and even flight cancellations. This in return can cost a business a deal, increase business travel time, and add to the travel cost. For many business travelers time is money. Short Trip from Seattle to Boise п‚· Departing July, 11 at 4:15 / Returning July 12 departing at 7:30 pm $264.70 per person x 4 = $1,058.80 п‚· For travel times not including time in airplane o Check in, ... Mongol Terror, Mongol Peace Dbq Essay Nigel Lewis November 17, 2010 2nd Period DBQ: The Mongol Terror, Mongol Peace Although many Mongols conquered peoples of Eurasia viewed the invasion as negative during the 13th and 14th centuries, many viewed this intrusion as positive According to Carpini and William of Rubrick, they both have positive things to say about the Mongols. I say this because document 1 states that the Mongols pay their lords more respect than any other people, and would hardly dare lie to them (Doc #1). I think this document is mainly positive because of the fact that the writer states that the Mongols are people that show good respect to their gods and lord. Ibn al atir had a negative point of view because they both have to do with killing people that are one of their kinds. An alternative of Mongol expansion can be seen through travelers of that time who were Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta. Document 2 reports on Marco Polo travels through Paris. Marco discovered that Paris is so favorably situated that it is a market for merchants from India and Baghdad (Doc #2). Throughout his travels, he learned that the Tater leadership would do great mischief to traveling merchants. So that is just another example for why people really dislike the Tater (Mongols). Document 5 talked about the North African Muslim traveler named Ibn Battuta. During his travels he discovered that the Chinese are infidels and they worship idols and burn their dead as the Indians do (Doc #5). The Chinese king was a Tater so that explains it all. Taters were not good people back then. So it is clear that the Mongols had different affects on people during their expansion westward. As the Mongols expanded throughout the territories, many people viewed this as a negative impact. On the other hand, the Mongols let the people they conquered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wu Cheng s The Journey To The West Chapter one of Wu Cheng en s classical story, The Journey to the West, introduces the main character, Monkey, by providing background information about his origin and early life. Monkey lived equally along with gibbons and baboons who he considered his kin until he was appointed to king of the Blessed Land of Flower Fruit Mountain. This transition from an unstructured, free will society to an orderly kingdom portrays the social changes humans experienced when dynasties arose in civilization. After Monkey gained the title of king, certain changes occurred. Immediately after he claimed the position, his peers lined up according to rank and age , praising Monkey by chanting, long live our great king (Cheng en, 177). The recently equal group... Prior to Monkey becoming king, a poem in the beginning of the chapter claims they played two games or three with pebbles and with pellets; they circled sandy pits, they built rare pagodas, they chased dragonflies.... which are activities that allowed the population to live in a carefree, playful environment (Cheng en, 174). After Monkey became king, their activities depended on the season, which another poem portrays; In the spring they gathered flowers for food and drink. In the summer they went in quest of fruits for sustenance. In the autumn they amassed taros and chestnuts to ward off time. In the winter they searched for yellow sperms to live out the year (Cheng en, 178). The newly civilized, ruled monkeys no longer roamed aimlessly playing with one another, but had jobs that would ensure their survival. This societal change is also reflected in the late Ming dynasties idea of radical individualism. In this time, the text argues that personal freedom had been celebrated at the expense of social responsibility (World Literature, 169). The monkeys now had responsibilities to attend to, likely with the king s instruction, when before they were liable for little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Intrinsic Value Of Facebook What is the intrinsic value of a Facebook share? How does this valuation compare to the price talk from underwriters? The intrinsic value of Facebook stock was very difficult to find, since the company is relatively new and has been growing at an extreme rate. Based on the most recent sale of Facebook stockvia a private transaction the per share price was $44 in March. However, based on the DCF analysis by professor Aswath Damodaran the intrinsic value of a single Facebook share would be $32.44. The problem is whenever using DCF analysis; the analysis is very sensitive to all assumptions uses, which were plenty in the case of Facebook. The price talk from underwriters varied immensely within the time from of February when the Red Herring was filed, all the way to May. At the very beginning, price talks were anywhere from $20 mid $30 s. They were set to offer 337,415,352 shares. As the broader market continued in bullish trend and momentum for the Facebook IPO became greater. Price talks now shifted to $28 $35 range. Knowing that demand for the stock was said to be growing it was noted that many IPO are priced conservative to leave room for a pop on the first day of trading. On May 11 CNBC made a statement along the lines that demand was much greater than supply for the stock. I happened to visit this museum on the perfect day because there were children from different schools dressed up and living how the people in Northern Colorado lived more than 100 years ago. With the children all dressed up like people used to dress, and doing the chores that they used to take on really made it the feel like I was back in time. What is a family? In my opinion, a family is that the people have the close relationship and share the responsibility for each other. In a family, people love each other and follow the same value, and they share the same sorrow and happiness, and they support each other, such as the father s helping his son to do carpentry from The Inheritance of Tools (Sanders). • 36. H. G. Wells was a Famous English Author of Science-fiction... Wells, H. G. (1866 1946), was a famous English novelist, historian, science writer, and author of science fiction stories. Wells s novel Tono Bungay (1909) best reveals his varied talents. The novel, a story of the dishonest promotion of a patent medicine, contains social criticism tinged with satire. In it, Wells described trips in airplanes and submarines at a time when such journeys seemed like science fiction. Herbert George Wells was born on Sept. 21, 1866, in Bromley, Kent (now part of London). He drew on his lower middle class background in some of his finest novels, including Kipps (1905) and The History of Mr. Polly (1909). His training as a scientist is reflected in his imaginative science fiction stories. The Time Machine (1895) describes the adventures of a man who can transport himself into the future. Wells wrote about an invasion from Mars in The War of the Worlds (1898) and described a fictional utopia in The Shape of Things to Come (1933). Wells supported social reform in the novel The New Machiavelli (1911), in the nonfiction study The Work, Wealth and Happiness of Mankind (1932), and in other books. He wrote The Outline of History (1920), a story of the development of the human race. The book shows Wells s knowledge of biology and his liberal attitude in politics. With his son Geoffrey and Sir Julian Huxley, Wells wrote The Science of Life (1929 1930), a four volume discussion of the principles of biology. Wells told his life story in Experiment in ... Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are sometimes vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify with them as they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to recognise how the carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution, together with the development of their affair throughout the story.
