Sharks are a type of fish with cartilaginous skeletons and streamlined bodies that use gill slits to breathe. They have skin covered in dermal denticles that protect them and improve fluid dynamics, and they have multiple sets of replaceable teeth. Sharks range greatly in size, from the small 17 cm dwarf lanternshark to the massive 12 m whale shark, the largest fish, which feeds by filter feeding on plankton and small fish.
