Fernando Botero is a Colombian figurative artist known for his paintings, drawings, and sculptures featuring exaggerated proportions. Jaramillo
He was born in Peru in 1894 and moved to Lima as a teenager after his father died. He began his career as a journalist in 1909 and wrote for several newspapers over the next two decades on topics including politics, literature, and art. In the 1920s, he traveled to Italy where he met his wife and founded magazines to discuss political issues from a socialist perspective. He formed the first socialist party and labor union in Peru but his work was again suppressed by the government. He wrote over 3,000 articles in his career as a journalist and political activist before passing away in 1930.
Mary Cassatt
Mary Cassatt lived from 1844 to 1926 and spent much of her life in France where she became known for her Impressionist paintings. Though her parents did not want her to pursue art professionally, she studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later moved to Paris in the 1860s to study privately. After returning to the United States briefly in 1870, Cassatt found few buyers for her work and so decided to return to Europe, where she eventually had more success and became associated with other Impressionist artists.
