Maruja Mallo was born on the 5th of January of 1902 in Vivero (Lugo).
She had a romance with a poet called
Rafael Alberti.
They met for the first time at Retiro Park
(Madrid) in 1925.

met the day that Federico García
Lorca offered a poetry recital,
due to the first exhibition of
Iberian Artists, which took place
in 1931.

His first exhibition in Paris took place in the Pierre Loeb
Gallery
1933
He returned to Madrid in 1933. In that year he
devoted himself to teaching drawing and ceramics at
the Arévalo High School, in Avila.

In 1936, with the
beginning of the Civil
War, Mallo goes to
Argentina.
Studies :
Maruja Mallo studied until 1926 at the Royal Academy of Fine
Arts while also attending from 1923 the Free Academy of
Julio Moisés along with her brother Cristino.

In the decade of the 60´s she returned
to Spain
1965
On her return to Spain in 1965, nobody remembered her any
longer. She started then a new artistic stage.

In 1982, two decades after her return to Madrid from her long American exile, she
attended the opening of Andy Warhol´s exhibition at the Fernando Vijande
Gallery in Madrid, where she met the famous American artist.
