GOONJ is an NGO based in Delhi that collects discarded clothing and other materials from urban areas and redistributes them to rural communities across 22 Indian states. It was founded in 1999 by Anshu Gupta after he witnessed a child sleeping with a dead body to stay warm. GOONJ repurposes discarded items through various programs that provide clothing, school supplies, sanitary products, disaster relief, and materials for rural development projects. Anshu Gupta has received several awards for his social entrepreneurship and GOONJ's innovative and impactful work addressing basic needs in rural India through optimal use of underutilized discarded materials.
