This document provides an overview of the goals and design process for the Computer/Design Technology department at St Dominic's. It outlines the department's aims to develop students' practical, analytical, organizational, and social skills through problem-solving design challenges. The design cycle is described in five stages: investigate, design, plan, create, and evaluate. It also discusses the community of learning at St Dominic's, emphasizing respect, rights and responsibilities of students, and organizational skills needed to be effective learners.
The document discusses learning ecosystems and their components. It describes how a learning ecosystem consists of various actors, learning services, and niches that afford teaching and learning purposes. Learning flows occur as users participate in networks of trophic chains that transform information to knowledge through the services provided. Communities in learning ecosystems are temporary and can successively change. Both planned and natural communities that emerge from learner-created services can support learning. Maintaining a balance through semi-natural communities that incorporate both teacher and learner contributions can help regulate learning ecosystems.
This document provides instructions for Lab 6 of the ELEC 101 course. It describes how to draw circuit diagrams in the software, including how to enter components, modify their properties, and connect them with wires. It then explains series, parallel and series-parallel circuits and provides examples. Finally, it gives guidance on drawing more complex circuits using different components and wire crossovers.
This document discusses developing digital literacies through interactive content creation. It proposes using the open-source Xerte tool to have students create interactive content as assessed work. Potential benefits include enhancing student and staff digital skills, establishing digital champions, and innovative teaching. Risks include staff inability to learn Xerte and infrastructure issues. Example projects are described to develop digital literacies for employability or create open educational resources. The document promotes sharing methods and experiences within discipline communities.
The document discusses how the Apple iPhone and Amazon Kindle have transformed the mobile web and e-books. It provides details on the technical specifications and features of the Kindle, including its e-ink display, storage, battery life, and WiFi connectivity. It describes how the Kindle allows wireless delivery of books, notes, highlights, and supports file formats like PDF and text. It also discusses the iPhone SDK and how developers can create apps for the iPhone.
The document discusses the benefits of using blogs for enhancing teaching and learning both in and outside of the classroom. It outlines how blogs allow teachers to communicate with students, encourage research, and create interactive learning experiences. Some key benefits mentioned include blogs shifting the focus from teacher to student, engaging students in active learning and collaboration, and linking learning to real-world experiences. The document also provides examples of popular blogging platforms and tools teachers can use to add multimedia content and widgets to make their blogs more engaging.
The document discusses making research publications open access through the University of Liverpool's Research Archive. It outlines that researchers need to enter publication metadata into TULIP and may need to deposit full text in a repository to comply with funder open access policies. The Research Archive Project aims to link publication metadata between TULIP and the repository to improve data quality and link outputs to research themes, grants, and other data sources. The document provides instructions for researchers to submit publications to journals, deposit final versions and metadata in the Research Archive, and have bibliographic metadata and full text (if permitted) made openly accessible according to any publisher restrictions.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
