1. Anna Vasa School Complex no 1 includes a lower (gimnazjum) and higher (liceum)
secondary school and a vocational college. It was named after the Swedish princess in 2003.
At the moment it houses about 170 students in seven classes at the gimnazjum and about 330
students in fifteen classes at the liceum.
Our students gain knowledge and skills in classrooms with modern equipment, such as
multimedia overhead projectors, interactive whiteboards, and video and stereo equipment.
They have the chance to develop their interests in all kinds of subject clubs. Both schools
organize meetings with interesting people, co-operation with university science clubs,
workshops, domestic and foreign excursions, and enable the students to take part in
international projects, such as eTwinning, Comenius, and AIESEC.
The teenagers realize their passions in the school choir ‘Cantus’, in the ancient music band
‘Capella Antiqua’, at painting workshops, and numerous subject clubs devoted to the media,
the theatre, recitation, photography, the European Union, playing chess or discussing films.
The pupils of the liceum create their ‘School Newspaper’, which is part of Golub-Dobrzyń’s
local weekly the ‘CGD’.
Both students of the gimnazjum and of the liceum actively participate in the student
governments.
Our teachers constantly acquire new qualifications at different kinds of post-graduate studies,
courses, and workshops. We teach five foreign languages: English, German, Russian, French,
and Latin in an inter-class system at various levels of advancement.
The desired effects of our work are confirmed by the results of the external final school
exams, which are better than the country’s average both at gimnazjum and liceum level.
Our students get involved in the process of creating tradition. Each new class enters the
‘Wazówna’ school community through playful initiation rites followed by a ceremonial oath.
In the middle of the time spent at our schools students celebrate the so-called połowinki and
100 days before the end of the learning process the so-called studniówka, both of which are
festive balls organized either at the school gym or in a restaurant.
At ‘Wazówna’, we also cherish historical memory. Days like 3rd May (when Europe’s first
and the world’s second modern constitution was passed in Poland in 1791) and 11th November
(when Poland regained its independence in 1918) are of crucial importance to us. Every year
on 26th February we celebrate the School Holiday and commemorate princess Anna Vasa’s
day of death with putting flowers on her tomb in St. Mary’s church in Toruń and organizing
competitions about her life at our schools. All major celebrations at our school observe the
rules of ceremonial and are accompanied by the schools’ colour party (poczet sztandarowy).
