Ankara is the capital city of Turkey located in the center of the country. It has a long history dating back to ancient civilizations like the Hittites and Galatians. In 1923, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk chose Ankara to be the capital of the newly founded Turkish Republic. Today, Ankara is an important cultural and historical center with notable museums such as the Ethnographical Museum and Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Ataturk.
