Foundations of the Turkish Republic were laid down in this historic building. The first Parliament House witnessed many debates and national resolutions as the conducting centre of the National Liberation War. This house exhibits now memories of the early years as the Museum of the Liberation War.

Ancyra's importance rested on the fact was that it was the junction point where the roads in northern Anatolia running north-south and east-west intersected. The great imperial road running east passed through Ankara and a succession of emperors and their armies came this way. The city was conquered by Augustus in 25 BC and passed under the control of the Roman Empire. There are many attractions related to Roman period in Ankara.
