The experimenter conducted the "angry eyes" experiment to demonstrate the discrimination faced by black people in society. She belittled the participants with blue eyes who sat in the middle of the room while the brown-eyed participants sat on the outside. While the experiment effectively conveyed the experience of racism, one participant objected that the experimenter ignored other forms of discrimination. The document expresses that witnessing friends being mistreated would make anyone uncomfortable, but they would also feel relief at not being the target of discrimination themselves.

Angry eyes
In the experiment angry eyes, the conductor of the experiment was trying to teach how
blacks are treated in everyday society. To do this she belittled everything that those people with
blues eyes in the group did or said. They sat in the middle of the room with those with brown
eyes on the outside.
My opinion of the experiment is that it was very harsh to the participants with blue eyes. I
understand what the experimenter is trying to convey about our societies history of racism
towards blacks but I believe that there could have been a better way to get her point across.
The point that really stood out to me was when the girl with the short hair stood up to the
teacher and told her that she had problems too. I understand that racism is a real problem in this
country, but it isn’t the only problem. Other people suffer plights such as those blacks faced,
such as gays/lesbians, or immigrant workers.
If I was in this experiment I don’t think that I would react well to it. I have brown eyes so
I would not be in the group that is discriminated against, but I believe that it would still make me
feel uncomfortable to watch my friends be treated badly. At the same time though I believe that I
would be relieved that I was not the one on the hot seat. In the experiment though it seemed as if
the participants got something out of it.
