“The Angry Eye” Experiment
Jane Elliott’s experiment shows how the people of the world, who are not white, are
treated on a daily basis. The way that the experiment is conducted is the proper way to show how
racists act towards those who are different than themselves. Jane Elliott does a wonderful job
facilitating this experiment. She takes the situation to heart and is willing do or say anything to
get her point across that discrimination is wrong, but at the same time I cannot stand listening to
her while she is conducting the experiment. She is extremely rude to the participants of the
experiment, but I understand that she is acting that way for a reason. I think that the experiment
is very powerful. It shows what it is like to be discriminated against and how hurtful it can be.
The “wow” moment of the experiment for me was when Jane Elliott continuously would insult
the individuals with blue eyes and verbally degrade them. It showed me how people who are
discriminated against on a daily basis really feel. I personally do not think I would be a good
candidate to take participate in this experiment. I am naturally an angry person. It does not take
much to make me mad. It would not take me as long to get frustrated and angry as others.
Although if I were to be a participant in this experiment and if I were in the blue eyed group, I
would be a person to become angry and possibly walk out. Overall I think that being part of this
experiment would be a great learning opportunity. I would leave the experiment with a different
view of how to treat others.
