This document summarizes a student's reflections on managing impressions in university. In the first semester, the student consciously controlled interactions during orientation to appear confident, friendly, and cheerful in order to change their shy image from high school. The student continued managing impressions in group projects, appearing interested to motivate groupmates. The student also used ingratiation like compliments sincerely to appear likable. However, impression management caused the student to believe they were more noticed than reality due to the spotlight effect.
