the system of communication.
It has liked up the district parts of the
world .
The present systematic and developed
communication mediums such as
telephone , fax , telegram , e-mail ,cellular
phone e.tc
They have decreased our time , distance
and made the world closer to us.
Communication is an act of transmitting
massages.
It is a process where by
information is exchanged between
individuals using symbols, signs or
verbal interactions.
Communication is important in
order to gain knowledge.
 The word Communication has been derived
from the Latin word ‘COMMUNIS’ which means
to make common.

Communication is important both for
an individual and also for the society.
A person’s need for communication is
an strong as the basic needs of human
beings a communication should always
clearly identify the subject scope of the
information.
The subject scope is a specification of the
information covered by the communication .
It has become a basic for the social existence
and the feeling of commonality and
togetherness.so the existence of human being
can be clearly elaborated in the development
of the communicative system.

TYPES – VERBAL AND
NON VERBAL
COMMUNICATIONS
VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
Verbal is the Latin adjective of ‘
word ’ so verbal communication means
communicating with words whether written
or spoken.
verbal communication consists of
speaking , listening , writing and reading.
MERIT OF VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
More personal and informal.
Makes immediate impact.
Provides opportunity for interaction and feed
back.
Help us correct our messages according to the
feed back and non-verbal cues from the
listener.
It is very fast and non-expensive.
DEMERITS OF VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
 A word once uttered can’t be taken back.
 Impact may be short lived.
It can be forgotten easily.
There is no legal evidence of oral
communication.
NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
Non-verbal communication is defined as
“the process of using wordless messages to
generate meaning.’’
The use of non-verbal communication can
create a whole new meaning to a massage
Non-verbal communication includes all
unwritten and unspoken massages ,both
intentional and unintentional .
FORMS OF NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
Facialexpression
Gestures.
Eye contact.
Body movement.
Voice.
Touch.
Time.
Paralanguage.
FEATURES OF NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
Non-verbal communication flows through
all acts ,of speaking or writing .
In fact ,they are wordless messages.
It is a creative activity which comes
through stimuli produced by mind.
IMPORTANCE OF NON-
VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:For being an
excellent communicator , a person
needs to augment his  her verbal
expressions with non-verbal ones.
ADVANTAGES OF NON-
VERBAL COMMUNICATION:
 The using of non-verbal communication
can clarify even the toughest messages to
understand.
 some times, non-verbal cues can be more
meaningful than the words themselves.
VERBAL Vs NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION:
Although verbal
communication is easier to understand, non-
verbal communication is essential to
understand not only a message, but more
importantly, the feeling behind the message.
Communication Style
•The Four Basic Styles Of
Communication:
1.passive communication.
2.aggressive communication.
3.passive-aggressive
communication.
4.Assertive communication.
1. Passive communication:
Passive
communication is style which
individual have developed pattern of
avoiding expressing their opinions or
feelings , protecting their rights, and
identifying and meeting their needs.
2.Aggressive communication:
Aggressive communication is a
style in which individual express their
feelings and opinions and advocate for
their needs in a way that violates the
rights of others. Thus, aggressive
communicators are verbally and /or
physically abusive.
3.Passive-Aggressive
Communication:
passive-aggressive
communication is a style in which
individuals appear passive on the
surface but are really acting out
anger in a subject ,indirect, or
behind-the-scenes way.
4.Assertive communication :
Assertive
communication is a style in which
individuals clearly state their
opinions and feelings , and firmly
advocate for their rights and needs
without violating the rights of
others.

  • 13. VERBAL COMMUNICATION: Verbal is the Latin adjective of ‘ word ’ so verbal communication means communicating with words whether written or spoken. verbal communication consists of speaking , listening , writing and reading.
  • 14. MERIT OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION: More personal and informal. Makes immediate impact. Provides opportunity for interaction and feed back. Help us correct our messages according to the feed back and non-verbal cues from the listener. It is very fast and non-expensive.
  • 15. DEMERITS OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION:  A word once uttered can’t be taken back.  Impact may be short lived. It can be forgotten easily. There is no legal evidence of oral communication.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION: Non-verbal communication is defined as “the process of using wordless messages to generate meaning.’’ The use of non-verbal communication can create a whole new meaning to a massage Non-verbal communication includes all unwritten and unspoken massages ,both intentional and unintentional .

  • 24. 2.Aggressive communication: Aggressive communication is a style in which individual express their feelings and opinions and advocate for their needs in a way that violates the rights of others. Thus, aggressive communicators are verbally and /or physically abusive.
  • 25. 3.Passive-Aggressive Communication: passive-aggressive communication is a style in which individuals appear passive on the surface but are really acting out anger in a subject ,indirect, or behind-the-scenes way.
  • 26. 4.Assertive communication : Assertive communication is a style in which individuals clearly state their opinions and feelings , and firmly advocate for their rights and needs without violating the rights of others.
