This document analyzes and summarizes the content page layout of a magazine. It notes that the page uses a grid layout with pictures and text. The content headings are written in bold and the descriptions in a less bold font below each heading. Page numbers are written beside relevant pictures to help readers find those articles. The background is white, allowing the pictures to stand out vibrantly while keeping the text visible.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
3. This magazine is an arts and
culture magazine based on
the South Asian countries
including paintings and
sculptures.
This magazine lies in he
categories of political and
social issues of Pakistan and
it’s neighboring countries.
This is a travel magazine, which
covers many aspects travel,
tourism and sustainability. It
also seems to touch social
factors too in the magazine.
4. The background color of the
content page is chosen as
white so that the colors in the
pictures could be seen as
more vibrant. In this way the
text is also visible. The white
background also reflects upon
the simplicity of the art and a
minimalist approach towards
national art.
This picture relates to’ the marvel
of ‘Shazia Sikandar’ as it shows
the installation view of her
selects in a museum.
This picture is not related to any
of the contents which makes it
completely useless to be
reviewed on this page.
Most of the pictures were not given in the
magazine itself under any topic, which seems
like it was just added to fill up the space on the
page and was pointless, not even relating to
any of the content .
5. Rather than writing ‘contents’, it is written ‘ in the
nigaah’, which breaks the typical code of
magazines using the word ‘contents’.Sarif, in
Bigger font has been used to
The content name has been written in a relatively bolder
font relating to its description under it so that the readers
can differentiate between the description and heading.
The description is written in a less bolder font than the
main heading. The placing of each description is under
the content heading , though there is not much space
between them
The number has the same font size as the as the text, it
has been written on the level of the content heading but
has space between,. I think leaving this much space is
pointless because even a little space could have made its
point.
write to make it more visible and rather than writing the
whole thing in black ‘the’ has been written in green to add
a little diversion from a typical code of wring the whole
thing in same color and in black. Other than that There is
no spacing in words, which is also an uncommon code
used to right a main heading.
6. The Placing of the content
page is in a form of a grid
with two square and two
rectangle formation in an
opposite way on both pages
in which three parts have
pictures and one with
contents in a form of a
column. The content main
heading ’in the nigaah’, is
placed in middle as a bold
header.
As a limitation of this
content page, I think that it
was too simple relating to
all the colorful and
interesting art and crafts in
the magazine as it could
have reflected the whole
content I a mere colorful
and attractive way.
7. Like most of the magazine’s content
pages, this magazine also has the
background color as white like most of
the magazines. Overall I do think that
the white background makes things
more pop up creating a sense of
importance of other things on. Other
than that it also has a minimalist touch
to it.
The picture, like all others on the content pages of
this magazine, has its page number written in
bold white font, which makes it easier for readers
to review it. Mostly the selective pictures on the
magazine’s content page have it’s most important
articles to be reviewed so if they have the page
numbers to, it increases it’s significance.
This is one of the halves of the whole picture on both
of the content pages, as it continues onto the next
page opposite. And altogether I think it is good way of
using on large wider picture on a content page as it
also fills most of the space.
The whole content page is divided into two columns, in
which one part has contents and one pictures.
8. The page number beside the pictures really help a lot as if
someone is interested in reviewing it, they can just flip to
that page. Secondly, all the pictures shown on the content
pages show their importance in the magazine. Lastly the
black and white contrast really caught my eye, especially the
way how the number 6 is written in black out of the picture.
The article headings are not written like
all other magazines, instead the article
name or description is written with
author’s name written below in
bold font in red color . Beside the description of the article
before it the page number is written with a good amount
of space in a relatively bold but same font as the
description. Black separators have also been used to make
it easier to distinguish between the articles.
Unlike all the of the other contents, the last 2 content
names are written first in bold red font and below it’ s
description is written in black beside which the page
number is written. In the same font as all others but just
with different placing. These two contents are different
because they are not relevant to the content of the
magazine. They just include some extras e.g. Ads
9. The ‘contents’ is written in a bold font and in a
bright orange color to be more visible over pale
blue. Every letter is capitalized. Rather than I the
middle It is placed in middle it is on the left
margin. Directly under it, the issue month is
written in same bold font in white to contrast with
bright orange. Under it in small font volume
number is written.
The description of the background picture is written in
black in a form of a column. It tells the information of
the location captured and it’s significance.
The contents of this magazine are written in a white
translucent strip, through which the background can
be seen.
The content heads are written in a bold font but in same size, other
than that they are written in a purple color contrasting with color of
the sea in the background. Separators have been used between the
description and head to make it easier more the reader to
differentiate. After every description page number is written which
is commonly written beside content section.
Contact information is written at the bottom through various
means, photography credits are also given under the strip.
