Individuality In Otzi The Iceman s Windguard Way
Individuality
Individuality is unique, characteristics that distinguish one person from another. Walt Disney is a
modern day entrepreneur who distributes individuality through his animations and determination. He
is one of the biggest entertainment moguls of all time, with an unrelenting spirit and commitment to
his vision; Disney is undoubtedly an entrepreneurial all star (http://www.inc.com/larry kim/11 most

of a kind theme park often referred to as the happiest place on earth, and his individuality truly shines
upon his success.
Resourcefulness
Resourcefulness is, having the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties. Otzi the
Iceman was identified as resourceful in the online novel Windguard Way. Otzi was resourceful in the
manner that he created a multipurpose tool known as the cooper axe. The axe was a tool known to be
used for felling trees, a cherished weapon, and a symbol of tribal leadership. Along with this creation

Day o! Day ay ay o! Daylight come and we wan go home, sung the King of Calypso. Someone may

Visual Object Agnosia And Prosopagnosia
Agnosia is defined as the inability to recognize objects through the processing of sensory information,
which means there is no deficit in semantic memory or problems with naming objects. An individual
suffering from agnosia still possesses all the relevant semantic information tied to a precept, but they
cannot recognize the precept when it is presented to them and therefore trigger the recall of said
information. There are many types of agnosia, but this essay will focus on visual object agnosia and
prosopagnosia. The former is the inability to recognise objects: patients suffering from visual object
agnosia do not have impaired vision, and in some cases can even copy the object they are seeing
(patient H.J.A., Humphreys Riddoch, 1987) or draw it from memory (patient D.F., Milner Goodale,
1992), but are unable to recognize it when they see it. In the latter, prosopagnosia, patients cannot
recognise faces of familiar individuals, and have to rely on other characteristics such as their voice or
clothing to recognize them. Patients suffering from prosopagnosia can either acquire it through a
lesion in relevant brain areas (acquired prosopagnosia) or for less understood reasons have it from
birth, in which case it is termed developmental prosopagnosia. The study of patients with agnosia is
integral to the field of visual recognition, as the specifics of their deficits can provide great insight into
the ways our brain processes information; for example, the location of

I have always been fascinated with the human brain and its ability to control all that we do. My
interest only grew after I saw my first human brain specimen on the anatomy dissection table and
closely examined the small but brilliant structures on that cadaver brain. It was then I knew I wanted
to pursue a career that allowed me to learn all I could about this powerful organ. Just prior to medical
school I had witnessed the devastating effects of Alzhiemer s disease on a family member and saw
first hand how the lack of information about the etiology of this disease and the limited amount of
breakthroughs about the treatment to stop or reverse its progression provided care difficult. A
neurology residency would help provide me with an excellent opportunity to learn the intricacies of
the brain and spinal cord. It would also provide me opportunities to participate in valuable research

wanted to know.

Persuasive Essay About Autism
Nobody exist on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere (Morty smith) I like this because it tells me that I
don t have to live as someone else wants me to. I wasn t born with Autism on purpose, I wasn t born
with such loving parents on purpose either I just came alive. I can do with my life as I see fit and be
happy with that because I m was not born to do anything ,but survive with the option of how to do so.
One question I am asked all the time by my family is who are you and what are you going to do with
your future... what are you going to do to earn a living? I ve given it quite a bit of thought and I think
the best response I can produce to satisfy the question is my personality, my interest, and my
education that are guiding me to a successful and independent future. My identity is structured around
adaptiveness to my autism because of how much it has impacted my life. For instance, during the
earlier periods of my life socialization was nearly impossible for me. When I was in the third grade
my attempt at making friends ended poorly as rather than socializing properly I simply butted into
conversations with topics that had nothing to do with what my peers were discussing. I eventuality
learned how to be empathetic with others which is how I developed social skills. During the eighth
grade my friend Oscar was stressed out by his sister, only having older brothers, I couldn t really relate
to him; however, empathising made the image of the issue much clearer and it

Price Competition In T-Mobile, AT T, Sprint, And Verizon
The industry I ve selected is the cellular phone service industry. This industry s market structure is an
oligopoly, meaning that a few large firms control the market. Four main firms, T Mobile, AT T, Sprint,
and Verizon dominate the cell phone service industry. Although the four firms compete against one
another, they typically avoid price competition in order to avoid price wars that decrease profits for
all. Instead, they use other tactics, such as advertising and improved customer service to gain a higher
demand in the market. Price wars occur due to the interdependence of firms involved in an
oligopolistic market structure. A decision made by one firm to increase or decrease prices will lead to
a fluctuation of the demand curve for the

You Must Do The Thing You Cannot Do Analysis
You Must Do The Thing You Think You Cannot Do. It s sad to see that people can t do what they want
because they re afraid of how others might judge them. Courageous people need to be brave, be
themselves, and be proud of who they are. Courage creates a more positive society. Melinda and
Heather are two fictional characters that have shown courage in one form or another. On the other
hand, my brother, Shpat, is a real life example of how courage can impact the society. Each act of
courage, either factual or fictional has created some type of impact on society. In the story, Speak,
Heather, was courageous in many ways. Her courage, in this case, had a negative impact on others.

This was a positive change because he was brave enough to take a risk in opening up a business. He

Now he brought a great pizzeria to the community. By displaying this courageous act, Shpat was able
to have a positive impact on society. Today, others are able to look up to him because he was brave
enough to do something that everyone told him not to. This newspaper publisher wrote a arctic about
our pizzeria and was talking about my dad s restaurant how we haved own other pizza place in other

Metaphors In The Ox Bow Incident
Metaphors
Lynch mob
After the news of the rustling of Drew s cattle and the murder of one of the rancher, Kinkaid, the mob
gets infuriated and decides to catch the culprit and hence, do justice. Though, aware of the
consequences of such posse, they agree to be a part of it because now they had someone to blame on if
something went wrong. There were people in the posse who opposed the lynching but any way went
ahead with due to the fear of rejection form the society or because they lacked the conscious to keep a
check on such an act.
Lynch mob as a literal concept is self evident. Clark uses the mob as a form of criticism against the
lynching that occurred in 1870 s to 1960 s in the southern United States against the African American
citizens. He also uses it to symbolise the corruption and the power play of the white in establishing the

He feels that law and justice are important to sustain a society and they must reflect the moral
conscience of the individuals. Conclusion The novel, The Ox Bow Incident, can be read at many
levels.
At one level, it deals with the inadequacies of the law in addressing to the question of justice and at
the same time highlights the importance of the law in a society as even in presence of inadequacies,
law is needed as it is better than a state of lawlessness.
Another interesting view put forth is that justice may not necessarily mean taking revenge and
punishing those who go against the society but it means that in doing so, the innocent must not suffer
and that every accused must be given an opportunity to fair trial and fair procedure in determination of
their guilt.
It also deals with the questions of morality and psychology of a person who assumes the position of
the judge while offering to judge the innocence or guilt of the accused and how the final holding is
affected by the subjective conscience of the

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph
Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences
as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men,
and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist
system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while
his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to
spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were
sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin
was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in
2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012
elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been
impossible without rigging the elections.
From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his
parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled

Philadelphia Art Museum Essay
The exhibit that I viewed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art was one about European Art between the
years 1100 1500. This was a series of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and tapestry of the Medieval
and Early Renaissance as well as objects from the Middle East. This exhibit was an important part of
the history of the Philadelphia Museum of Art because for the first time, Italian, Spanish, and Northern
European paintings from the John G. Johnson collection were shown. It gave me a good idea of what
the paintings were like in these four centuries and reflected ideas of both the east and the west.

The cloister stood in the heart of a medieval abbey or monetary. The example that I saw was based on
the elements of the cloister located at Abbey of Saint Genis des Fontaines in the Roussillon, a
mountainous region in Southwestern France that was fought over by Christians and Muslims for
centuries . The cloister was the center of the abbey; which connected the living quarters to the church.
I also observed many paintings in this gallery. One painting that caught my eye was titled, The
Mocking of Christ by Hieronymus Bosch. It was an early 16th century, oil on wood painting. Christ
was seen in the upper right next to Pilate and was surrounded by figured who looked more like friends
than enemies that would crucify him. These so called friends of Christ were holding weapons and
wearing bizarre headgear. In the painting, Jesus had a saddened look on his face while the others
looked jollier. Another painting that I observed was a painting by Defendate Ferrari which showed the
enthroned Virgin Mary breastfeeding the baby Jesus with Saint John the Evangelist, Catherine of
Alexandra, Anthony Abbot, and a saint reading a book. I was attracted to this painting because I would
never have thought to have seen a picture of Mary feeding Jesus in that way. This painting was
originally an oil and gold on wood and was transferred to canvas. There were so many

Social Inequality In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal
In Battle Royal before the large fight, the party is delighted with a stark nude dancer. Ellison presents
the woman in such a way that the reader feels sorry for her just as they do with the narrator. She along
with the narrator are both symbols of social inequality experienced before the civil rights movement,
where both are abused due to their social niche (the dancer as a woman, and the narrator as an African
American). This social inequality is brought forth in an exaggerative way to show that both these
things likely occurred in the period, and that they suffer through many other such injustices
throughout their normal lives. One of Battle Royal s main purposes was to provide an insight into the
pre Civil Rights era (which was the current time for Ellison) and exemplify the human atrocities that
occurred. The short story shows the ways in which the white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After all the men had made it into the room she began to dance, a slow sensuous movement; the

the story. Following her dancing she is quickly rushed upon and tossed her as college boys are tossed
at a hazing, causing terror and disgust in her eyes as her soft breasts seemed to flatten against the air
and her legs flung wildly as she spun (522). The narrator directly compares this terror felt by the
woman being manhandled with the terror he is experiencing in leu of the fight and speech. These two
extreme examples show how unfairly and disgracefully both woman and African Americans were seen
at the time. Only a few generations from the abolishment of slavery, popular culture, especially in the

Gods and Generals The American Civil War was a military conflict between the United States of
America (the Union), and 11 secessionist Southern states, organized as the Confederate States of

And Did Those Feet In Ancient Time
Language, Usage, and Style in And Did Those Feet in Ancient Time In And Did Those Feet in Ancient
Time, William Blake expertly combines language, usage, and style to create this short poem that
would later become the preface to his epic Milton: a Poem. Blake puts emphasis on the narrator s
diction, syntax, and tone to delineate the narrator s thoughts and feelings that complement his purpose
in this poem. The diction in this poem is largely neutral, if not informal. Blake uses common
vocabulary; however, he refrains from slang and colloquial diction. The narrator s language is strong,
yet it is also lyrical as it was fit to be adapted into an anthem called Jerusalem by Sir Hubert Parry in
1916 (Dibble). The poem is written in first person, and there is no alternate dialogue. The narrator s
diction is in a language that can be understood by the common Englishman. This is pertinent as the
major themes of the poem are of biblical allusions, and the Bible has been translated for the common
man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The first symbol I noticed that was important was the red balloon. I thought this was important
because, in the story it kinda came out of nowhere and it meant something. Nia was waiting for Bobby
at the end of the stairwell with the red balloon, no one knew what it symbolized at first, that s why it
was so important. She then handed Bobby the balloon and he knew that it meant something was about
to change. Later on he found out the balloon symbolized Nia s pregnancy.
The second symbol I noticed was the wall. This stood out to me because Bobby was going to do
something to the wall that was important. Another reason this was important was because, when he
started to spray paint the wall he was having flash backs to his childhood, and his old life. Everything
just started coming at him all at once, and he used the wall to make a visible picture of ... Show more

Diction In William Shakespeare s Redondo Night
Diction
Far below, Louie was still ensnared in the plane, writhing in the wires. He looked up and saw a body,
drifting passively. The plane coursed down, and the world fled away above. Louie felt his ears pop,
and vaguely recollected that at the swimming pool at Redondo Beach, his ears would pop at twenty
feet. Darkness enfolded him, and the water pressure bore in with greater and greater intensity. He
struggled uselessly. He thought: Hopeless. (Page 120)
I selected this passage because when I read it, it seemed to make the story stop for a second and
helped emotionally paint a picture of what louis was feeling based on the word choice used. This
particulate passage let me recognize Louie thoughts and feelings about the situation Louis was in. I
would characterize the words in this passage to thoroughly create a sudden desolate and gloomy mood
for example when the author used words like ensnared, writhing, uselessly, and hopeless I instantly
thought of Louie being alone and with nothing left to do but give up and let death come upon him. The
author effects the reader by trying to help set the tone and mood of the story to better understand what
s going on.
Imagery
Slowly, his thoughts quieted and his eyes settled. He was in a wooden cell, about the length of a man
and not much wider than his shoulders. Over his head was a thatched roof, about seven feet up. The
only window was a hole, about a foot square, in the door. The floor was strewn with gravel, dirt, and
wiggling maggots, and the room hummed with flies and mosquitos, already beginning to swarm onto
him. There was a hole in the floor with a latrine bucket below it the air hung hot and still, oppressive
with the stench of human waste. (page 174)
I chose this passage because it helped ignite the setting of the story by incorporating what Louie was
seeing, smelling, and physically feeling for example when describing the smell the author describes it
as the stench of human waste . Based on the descriptions in each sentence I was able to visualize the
small cell Louie was in. The author tries to make us feel as if we were experiencing the event
ourselves. The imagery used throughout the book is used to invoke the reader and create a deep and

Maus Act 1 Scene 1 Essay
Memorable Scenes
MAUS has many memorable scenes as Artie goes through his father s life through his comic. Through
guilt, lack of communication, as well as lack of relationship that Artie and Vladek had as a family.
Artie s mother, Anja, committed suicide shortly after an interaction that she had with her son. In
Chapter 5 of MAUS Artie wrote a comic about his mother titled, Prisoner on the Hell Planet, and in
this comic, he recalls the last interaction that he remembers having with his mother. She came into his
room late at night asking her son if he still loved her. His response was, sure, ma (103), as he turned
away from her. Shortly after, she committed suicide and Artie feels partly responsible for such event.
Throughout MAUS Artie s dad, Vladek, calls out to Anja as he misses her and the audience can t help
but feel for both Vladek and Artie as we know how at fault Artie feels for her death and Vladek s
broken heart.
Throughout MAUS, it is shown that Artie and Vladek do not have the greatest father, son relationship.
The first line of the comic proves this, I went out to see my father in Rego Park. I hadn t seen him in a
long time we weren t that close (11). When Vladek needs help from Artie, he either declines to do so
or feels burdened by what is being asked of him. There is a small lack of respect towards one another

It is quite a somber piece that has a serious tone throughout. MAUS concentrates on teaching its
audience about the emotional trauma people went through during the holocaust. To know the story
behind those closed doors creates a different approach to the events that took place. The lack of action
in the comic creates a greater understanding as to what the comic is trying to relay to its audience. It
does not want the focus to be on how entertaining action can make the comic but how powerful it can
be within its

Imagery In Sports
Sport or exercise psychologists use imagery as a method to train athlete s skills such as visual
perception skill, attention and regulating emotions (Smeeton, Hibbert, Stevenson, Cumming Williams,
2014; Williams Cummings, 2012). There are researches suggested that when imagining the
movements or performing the actual movement, similar brain activities was showed and with this
finding, sport psychologists can use imagery to train athletes as essentially there is no difference
between imagery training and physical training according to previous studies (Homles Calmels, 2008,

The Theory Of Human Motivation Essay
Pensions Transfers Summative Coursework Session B60854 Course Start Date: 22 august 16
Submission Deadline: Midday 1 November 16 Candidate C53500. Introduction The theory of human
motivation was introduced in 1943 by psychologist Abraham Maslow as the Hierarchy of needs. Basic
needs like food and shelter once met give rise to psychological needs, which motivate behaviour. To
feel good people, have a bias for instant gratification. The FCA are taking a keen interest in
behavioural economics: as professionals we need to be aware of these issues and not frame our
conversations in such a way that takes advantage of a client s biases. In April 2015 the 2014 taxation
of pensions act came into law labelled pension freedom legislation and allowed pension holders access
to monies held in a pension fund, the fear was people cashing in their pension savings for instant
gratification. This paper will look at a typical male client at retirement aged 65 who has benefits in
both a defined benefit (DB) and an occupational money purchase scheme and critically evaluate why
he may consider pension transfer. Let s assume our client is married and has health issues at
retirement, he is married to his second wife 48 years of age they own their own home with an interest
only mortgage. They have a young child aged 12 and a 25 year old from his first marriage who is
married and has her own family. In considering a transfer from a DB to DC scheme the following

Synopsis Of The Movie Newton Knight
During the intensity of the Civil War, Southern states in the Confederacy fought against the Union for
their traditions and beliefs. However, not all citizens of the Confederacy were willing to fight for the
South s right to maintain slavery. One man, Newton Knight of Mississippi, deserted the Confederate
army and even took up arms against the Confederacy. The movie covers Newton Knight s journey as
he and his allies gained control of Jones County in Mississippi and seceded from the South, effectively
rejecting the Confederacy in favor of the Union. The movie focuses on the events surrounding Knight
s rebellion against the Confederacy, but it begins with Newton Knight as a soldier of the Confederate
army. The movie portrays Knight in the gruesome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Knight captured Jones County, he amassed allies who consisted of deserters and slaves. In the
movie, Knights is shown having a deep companionship with the fictional fugitive slave, Moses
Washington. Although the character, Moses Washington, was made up, Knight was very close with
black people. Knight even married a slave named Rachel, which the movie correctly depicted. Even
after Rachel and Newton Knight were married, Knight s former wife, who was wife still lived with
them. Again, the movie diverts from the truth by showing Serena and Newton with only one child
when in reality they had nine; the movie does this in order to allow for a deeper romance between his
new wife, Rachel. Knight s closeness with black people was somewhat over exaggerated in the

Racial Minorities In Theatre
In my English 104 class, we are discussing the theme of exploring the margins. My group will study
the representation of racial minorities in the modern world. I decided to go to the theatre to look into
the lack of representation and the misrepresentation of race. Do people of other races feel like they
have a limited amount of roles to choose from? Do people of other races feel as though they have to
act and look more Caucasian to land classic roles? Does color blind casting change the experience for
the audience? How are many different racial minorities not stereotypically represented? What is being
done to solve this issue? I will also discuss who is affected by this issue and what that may mean for
them. I will argue the possible solutions to increase the representation in theatre. I will refer to the
research I have done on the subject. I will reference Theatre Topics, the Canadian Theatre Review,
Applied Theatre Research, and Theatre Research International. Stereotyping in theatre is a universal
issue for all marginalized actors. This is an important topic to research if you are a part of the theatre
community. To work toward a more equal and accurate representation of the world, the theatre
community needs everyone to work together.
Hi, I am Caroline Koby. I am a Sophomore undergraduate student at Ball State University and today I
ll be talking about the lack of representation of racial minorities in theatre. I will also discuss who is

Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios
Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings
Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative care
requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to promote
change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the varying
patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having high PNRs may
lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al., 2012; Karavasiliadou
Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in areas such as the
emergency room. To initiate this change, a task force would have to be established to use current data
and research as evidence to propose the change, implement the change and evaluate its effectiveness.
Change Model Overview
The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence Based Practice (JHNEBP) process can be used to facilitate
change. This process serves as a guideline to access, combine, and implement research into nursing
practice. According to Dearholt and Dang (2012), the JHNEBP is an 18 step process that occurs in
three phases. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be summarized as the
practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012). Phase two is the evidence
phase containing steps 6 through 10 and is where search for evidence pertaining to the issue

Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca
In 1930s Spain, the ritual of marriage became highly controversial as the 1931 Constitution allowed
for divorce to be legal. This caused debate between older and younger generations. The elders of
society still had their beliefs deeply rooted in the views of the Catholic Church , which did not allow
for divorce. Nonetheless, the younger generation was more prone to giving into desire and therefore
was more open to the idea. The play Blood Wedding by Federico Garcia Lorca insinuates the strong
importance of ritual in the 1930s. Due to this, in the play, ritual is revered and ironclad while desire is
shunned. When Leonardo comes to the wedding of Bride the clash between desire and ritual is made
evident. Nonetheless, ritual is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when Leonardo whisks Bride away, ritual is threatened. Lorca also shows how desire should
be kept hidden away in society by the running away of Bride and Leonardo being made off stage. He
shows that people would rather pretend that desire does not even exist making their running away
hidden signifying that. Additionally, the setting of Act 3 adds to the feeling of desire. Forests have
been known in plays to be a place of surrealism. Leonardo and Bride get married in the forest as their
ability to be together is like a dream come true for them and it would not be possible anywhere else. In
any other place, ritual would have had more precedence and strength because society endorses it due
to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. All in all, desire is not imperative to society in the play and in
that time period.
Blood Wedding portrays ritual excessively; even the title Wedding is a religious sacrament. Thus, it
should come as no surprise that Lorca encompasses ritual into the hunting down of Leonardo and
Bride. As soon as everyone learns that the two are gone, Mother dispatches people to go look for them
and says, It s come again: the hour of blood (p. 44). From this phrase, one can see that the hour of
blood has come before. It is an accepted ritual to hunt down and kill a runaway bride or anyone who
challenges ritual. No one is disturbed by the impending murder because it is a tradition a way of
living. Desire has

An Analysis of Dreams Deferred by Langston Hughes
Importance of Achieving Dreams It is true that people often dream widely and unrealistically. But
some people dream about basic human rights such as dignity, freedom, liberty, equal rights, and access
to education. Socio economic and political conditions sometimes put people in dire situations where
they do not have access to such fundamental human needs. For such people, achieving their dreams is
especially important, as the shattering of their dreams may lead to the shattering of their lives
altogether. One can think of numerous such people, but one glaring example is the case of
undocumented students in the United States who dream about equal rights and access to higher
education. These students struggle with a lot of problems in their lives and some of those problems are
beyond their control. It is important therefore that the government and the public build mechanisms
that would allow the dreams of these students come into realization. It is important to keep in mind
that the decision for undocumented children to be in the United States was not their own. They were
forced out of their home countries or grew up in America because their parents had immigrated to the
United States. Mario Escobar, for instance, lost his father, grandmother, and cousins in Salvadoran
civil war. As an undergraduate at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), he would go to
classes hungry and wore used clothes that he bought from Goodwill because he was poor and not

The Central Park Five Summary
The documentary we had to watch for this week s discussion called The Central Park Five directed by
Ken Burns was eye opening. The movie was about five black and Latino teenagers aged 14 to 16 of
being falsely convicted of attacking and raping a 28 year old white woman in the central park, New
York in 1989. There was lots of miscarriage of justice that occurred in this movie that caught me by
surprise and disappointment me. If this was a woman from Harlem or another poor city, this would not
have been such a big case. In the movie, they talk about the woman being raped and thrown off the
balcony and no one had any issue with that. It was not even public headlines in most newspapers, not

not used to being locked up for days and being interrogated by the police. In their head, they thought
the only way to get out was by saying something the prosecutor and detective wanted to hear, which
untimely ended up hurting them the most in the trial. I was disappointed in the fact that the teens were
convicted before the trail, I feel as once they walked into the police department the law enforcement
team knew they were going to pin this crime on the teens by any means. This would have been easy
for the public to believe because of the color of their skin and easy to see them as violent

Pierre Bourdieu Habitus
The habitus, a product of history, produces individual and collective practices more history in
accordance with the schemes generated by history. It ensures the active presence of past experiences,
which, deposited in each organism in the form of schemes of perception, thought and action, tend to
guarantee the correctness of practices and their constancy over time, more reliably than all formal
rules and explicit norms.

perceives his relationship with his boss as being far closer, than it really is. All Howard has to say to
Willy, however, is that business is business . This a good example of Willy s misunderstanding of the

Willy also has his own, distinct perception of success. For him it is all about money and being well

himself, could achieve becoming a salesman. He imagines that pursuing the same career in the same

Accounting Paper
Introduction
In recent decades, the global economy has undergone a rapid transformation, from an economy driven
by traditional hard assets plants, warehouses and the like , to an economy driven by patents, software,
intellectual property, and brands. These items fall into a category that has become hugely important in
the world of financial reporting, intangible assets . Increasingly, the value of a firm is derived not from
its tangible assets such as stock, property, plant and equipment but by its knowledge capital, its
employees, even by its business processes. As Baruch Lev notes in 2001:

They were able to conclude that the usefulness of reported earnings, cash flows, and book (equity)
values has been deteriorating over the years . The decline in the usefulness of accounting is a result of
the difficulties in measuring an internally developed intangible asset, firstly how does one assign a
value to knowledge capital, secondly, what is the fair value of this capital if no exchange has taken
place? In the interest of conservatism and reliability, regulators require all investments in R amp;D to
be immediately expensed. This creates a problem since the benefits of this research are not realized
until a later period, thus the concept of matching goes out the window. This increased expenditure
resulting from R amp;D expenditure distorts earnings on the income statement. In the event of a
merger or an acquisition (M amp;A), in accordance with APB Opinion 17, any excess amount paid
over the book value for a firm would be listed under the catch all term goodwill which was amortized
over 40 years. As a result of these regulation standards, the gap between the market value of
technology firms and their book value became ever larger.
Efforts to Improve Financial Reporting
The dangers of this ineffective accounting for intangibles were brought into a stark light in 2001
following the collapse of energy giant Enron, which once had been widely considered to be one of

  • 5. Visual Object Agnosia And Prosopagnosia Agnosia is defined as the inability to recognize objects through the processing of sensory information, which means there is no deficit in semantic memory or problems with naming objects. An individual suffering from agnosia still possesses all the relevant semantic information tied to a precept, but they cannot recognize the precept when it is presented to them and therefore trigger the recall of said information. There are many types of agnosia, but this essay will focus on visual object agnosia and prosopagnosia. The former is the inability to recognise objects: patients suffering from visual object agnosia do not have impaired vision, and in some cases can even copy the object they are seeing (patient H.J.A., Humphreys Riddoch, 1987) or draw it from memory (patient D.F., Milner Goodale, 1992), but are unable to recognize it when they see it. In the latter, prosopagnosia, patients cannot recognise faces of familiar individuals, and have to rely on other characteristics such as their voice or clothing to recognize them. Patients suffering from prosopagnosia can either acquire it through a lesion in relevant brain areas (acquired prosopagnosia) or for less understood reasons have it from birth, in which case it is termed developmental prosopagnosia. The study of patients with agnosia is integral to the field of visual recognition, as the specifics of their deficits can provide great insight into the ways our brain processes information; for example, the location of ... • 6. Neurology Personal Statement Examples I have always been fascinated with the human brain and its ability to control all that we do. My interest only grew after I saw my first human brain specimen on the anatomy dissection table and closely examined the small but brilliant structures on that cadaver brain. It was then I knew I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to learn all I could about this powerful organ. Just prior to medical school I had witnessed the devastating effects of Alzhiemer s disease on a family member and saw first hand how the lack of information about the etiology of this disease and the limited amount of breakthroughs about the treatment to stop or reverse its progression provided care difficult. A neurology residency would help provide me with an excellent opportunity to learn the intricacies of the brain and spinal cord. It would also provide me opportunities to participate in valuable research projects that may one day provide the level of insight about neurological diseases that my family wanted to know. I was born and raised in the United States with parental emphasis on education, family values and empathy for others. Although my family and I endured many hardships, including ... • 7. Persuasive Essay About Autism Nobody exist on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere (Morty smith) I like this because it tells me that I don t have to live as someone else wants me to. I wasn t born with Autism on purpose, I wasn t born with such loving parents on purpose either I just came alive. I can do with my life as I see fit and be happy with that because I m was not born to do anything ,but survive with the option of how to do so. One question I am asked all the time by my family is who are you and what are you going to do with your future... what are you going to do to earn a living? I ve given it quite a bit of thought and I think the best response I can produce to satisfy the question is my personality, my interest, and my education that are guiding me to a successful and independent future. My identity is structured around adaptiveness to my autism because of how much it has impacted my life. For instance, during the earlier periods of my life socialization was nearly impossible for me. When I was in the third grade my attempt at making friends ended poorly as rather than socializing properly I simply butted into conversations with topics that had nothing to do with what my peers were discussing. I eventuality learned how to be empathetic with others which is how I developed social skills. During the eighth grade my friend Oscar was stressed out by his sister, only having older brothers, I couldn t really relate to him; however, empathising made the image of the issue much clearer and it ... This industry s market structure is an oligopoly, meaning that a few large firms control the market. Four main firms, T Mobile, AT T, Sprint, and Verizon dominate the cell phone service industry. Although the four firms compete against one another, they typically avoid price competition in order to avoid price wars that decrease profits for all. Instead, they use other tactics, such as advertising and improved customer service to gain a higher demand in the market. Price wars occur due to the interdependence of firms involved in an oligopolistic market structure. It s sad to see that people can t do what they want because they re afraid of how others might judge them. Courageous people need to be brave, be themselves, and be proud of who they are. Courage creates a more positive society. Melinda and Heather are two fictional characters that have shown courage in one form or another. On the other hand, my brother, Shpat, is a real life example of how courage can impact the society. Each act of courage, either factual or fictional has created some type of impact on society. Metaphors In The Ox Bow Incident Metaphors Lynch mob After the news of the rustling of Drew s cattle and the murder of one of the rancher, Kinkaid, the mob gets infuriated and decides to catch the culprit and hence, do justice. Though, aware of the consequences of such posse, they agree to be a part of it because now they had someone to blame on if something went wrong. There were people in the posse who opposed the lynching but any way went ahead with due to the fear of rejection form the society or because they lacked the conscious to keep a check on such an act. Lynch mob as a literal concept is self evident. Clark uses the mob as a form of criticism against the lynching that occurred in 1870 s to 1960 s in the southern United States against the African American citizens. At one level, it deals with the inadequacies of the law in addressing to the question of justice and at the same time highlights the importance of the law in a society as even in presence of inadequacies, law is needed as it is better than a state of lawlessness. Another interesting view put forth is that justice may not necessarily mean taking revenge and punishing those who go against the society but it means that in doing so, the innocent must not suffer and that every accused must be given an opportunity to fair trial and fair procedure in determination of their guilt. It also deals with the questions of morality and psychology of a person who assumes the position of the judge while offering to judge the innocence or guilt of the accused and how the final holding is affected by the subjective conscience of the ... • 12. Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps . After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been impossible without rigging the elections. This was a series of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and tapestry of the Medieval and Early Renaissance as well as objects from the Middle East. This exhibit was an important part of the history of the Philadelphia Museum of Art because for the first time, Italian, Spanish, and Northern European paintings from the John G. The cloister was the center of the abbey; which connected the living quarters to the church. I also observed many paintings in this gallery. One painting that caught my eye was titled, The Mocking of Christ by Hieronymus Bosch. It was an early 16th century, oil on wood painting. Christ was seen in the upper right next to Pilate and was surrounded by figured who looked more like friends than enemies that would crucify him. These so called friends of Christ were holding weapons and wearing bizarre headgear. In the painting, Jesus had a saddened look on his face while the others looked jollier. Another painting that I observed was a painting by Defendate Ferrari which showed the enthroned Virgin Mary breastfeeding the baby Jesus with Saint John the Evangelist, Catherine of Alexandra, Anthony Abbot, and a saint reading a book. I was attracted to this painting because I would never have thought to have seen a picture of Mary feeding Jesus in that way. • 16. Social Inequality In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal In Battle Royal before the large fight, the party is delighted with a stark nude dancer. Ellison presents the woman in such a way that the reader feels sorry for her just as they do with the narrator. She along with the narrator are both symbols of social inequality experienced before the civil rights movement, where both are abused due to their social niche (the dancer as a woman, and the narrator as an African American). This social inequality is brought forth in an exaggerative way to show that both these things likely occurred in the period, and that they suffer through many other such injustices throughout their normal lives. One of Battle Royal s main purposes was to provide an insight into the pre Civil Rights era (which was the current time for Ellison) and exemplify the human atrocities that occurred. Following her dancing she is quickly rushed upon and tossed her as college boys are tossed at a hazing, causing terror and disgust in her eyes as her soft breasts seemed to flatten against the air and her legs flung wildly as she spun (522). The narrator directly compares this terror felt by the woman being manhandled with the terror he is experiencing in leu of the fight and speech. These two extreme examples show how unfairly and disgracefully both woman and African Americans were seen at the time. Blake puts emphasis on the narrator s diction, syntax, and tone to delineate the narrator s thoughts and feelings that complement his purpose in this poem. The diction in this poem is largely neutral, if not informal. Blake uses common vocabulary; however, he refrains from slang and colloquial diction. The narrator s language is strong, yet it is also lyrical as it was fit to be adapted into an anthem called Jerusalem by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916 (Dibble). The poem is written in first person, and there is no alternate dialogue. The narrator s diction is in a language that can be understood by the common Englishman. • 22. Diction In William Shakespeare s Redondo Night Diction Far below, Louie was still ensnared in the plane, writhing in the wires. He looked up and saw a body, drifting passively. The plane coursed down, and the world fled away above. Louie felt his ears pop, and vaguely recollected that at the swimming pool at Redondo Beach, his ears would pop at twenty feet. Darkness enfolded him, and the water pressure bore in with greater and greater intensity. He struggled uselessly. He thought: Hopeless. (Page 120) I selected this passage because when I read it, it seemed to make the story stop for a second and helped emotionally paint a picture of what louis was feeling based on the word choice used. This particulate passage let me recognize Louie thoughts and feelings about the situation Louis was in. I would characterize the words in this passage to thoroughly create a sudden desolate and gloomy mood for example when the author used words like ensnared, writhing, uselessly, and hopeless I instantly thought of Louie being alone and with nothing left to do but give up and let death come upon him. The author effects the reader by trying to help set the tone and mood of the story to better understand what s going on. Imagery Slowly, his thoughts quieted and his eyes settled. He was in a wooden cell, about the length of a man and not much wider than his shoulders. Over his head was a thatched roof, about seven feet up. The only window was a hole, about a foot square, in the door. The floor was strewn with gravel, dirt, and wiggling maggots, and the room hummed with flies and mosquitos, already beginning to swarm onto him. There was a hole in the floor with a latrine bucket below it the air hung hot and still, oppressive with the stench of human waste. (page 174) I chose this passage because it helped ignite the setting of the story by incorporating what Louie was seeing, smelling, and physically feeling for example when describing the smell the author describes it as the stench of human waste . Based on the descriptions in each sentence I was able to visualize the small cell Louie was in. The author tries to make us feel as if we were experiencing the event ourselves. • 28. Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative care requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to promote change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the varying patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having high PNRs may lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al., 2012; Karavasiliadou Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in areas such as the emergency room. To initiate this change, a task force would have to be established to use current data and research as evidence to propose the change, implement the change and evaluate its effectiveness. This process serves as a guideline to access, combine, and implement research into nursing practice. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be summarized as the practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012). • 29. Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca In 1930s Spain, the ritual of marriage became highly controversial as the 1931 Constitution allowed for divorce to be legal. This caused debate between older and younger generations. The elders of society still had their beliefs deeply rooted in the views of the Catholic Church , which did not allow for divorce. Nonetheless, the younger generation was more prone to giving into desire and therefore was more open to the idea. The play Blood Wedding by Federico Garcia Lorca insinuates the strong importance of ritual in the 1930s. Due to this, in the play, ritual is revered and ironclad while desire is shunned. Forests have been known in plays to be a place of surrealism. Leonardo and Bride get married in the forest as their ability to be together is like a dream come true for them and it would not be possible anywhere else. In any other place, ritual would have had more precedence and strength because society endorses it due to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. All in all, desire is not imperative to society in the play and in that time period. Blood Wedding portrays ritual excessively; even the title Wedding is a religious sacrament. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Lorca encompasses ritual into the hunting down of Leonardo and Bride. As soon as everyone learns that the two are gone, Mother dispatches people to go look for them and says, It s come again: the hour of blood (p. 44). But some people dream about basic human rights such as dignity, freedom, liberty, equal rights, and access to education. Socio economic and political conditions sometimes put people in dire situations where they do not have access to such fundamental human needs. For such people, achieving their dreams is especially important, as the shattering of their dreams may lead to the shattering of their lives altogether. One can think of numerous such people, but one glaring example is the case of undocumented students in the United States who dream about equal rights and access to higher education. These students struggle with a lot of problems in their lives and some of those problems are beyond their control. It is important therefore that the government and the public build mechanisms that would allow the dreams of these students come into realization. It is important to keep in mind that the decision for undocumented children to be in the United States was not their own. • 33. The Central Park Five Summary The documentary we had to watch for this week s discussion called The Central Park Five directed by Ken Burns was eye opening. The movie was about five black and Latino teenagers aged 14 to 16 of being falsely convicted of attacking and raping a 28 year old white woman in the central park, New York in 1989. There was lots of miscarriage of justice that occurred in this movie that caught me by surprise and disappointment me. If this was a woman from Harlem or another poor city, this would not have been such a big case. In the movie, they talk about the woman being raped and thrown off the balcony and no one had any issue with that. It was not even public headlines in most newspapers, not fair how some stories get more popularity over others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They lied to the 5 teens saying, the other in the group is telling them they did the crime and if they admit it they can walk out a free man. Manipulating and pressuring the teens to do something or say something they want to hear is a terrible persona. That is a tough situation for a teen to be in; they are not used to being locked up for days and being interrogated by the police. In their head, they thought the only way to get out was by saying something the prosecutor and detective wanted to hear, which untimely ended up hurting them the most in the trial. I was disappointed in the fact that the teens were convicted before the trail, I feel as once they walked into the police department the law enforcement team knew they were going to pin this crime on the teens by any means. This would have been easy for the public to believe because of the color of their skin and easy to see them as violent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It ensures the active presence of past experiences, which, deposited in each organism in the form of schemes of perception, thought and action, tend to guarantee the correctness of practices and their constancy over time, more reliably than all formal rules and explicit norms. In fact, an example of this shift in priorities is seen and discussed most commonly within delinquency in relation to gangs specifically. Recently, within my juvenile delinquency course we discussed the motivations youth have today for participating in gang life. Throughout the play the reader sees how Willy Loman struggles to achieve something, which is beyond his capability. He has a dream, the American dream of success and accomplishment. And yet, he is not able to ever thrive because his idea of how to succeed is wrong. The times have changed, the play is set in the period of an economic boom and increasing desire for material goods in America and the Loman family is now living in a capitalist society, however, Willy seems not to have realised that things have changed. Howard therefore simply sees the relationship as diplomatic and business like and understands that Willy is not able to pull his own weight anymore. Yet for Willy this is all about loyalty gratitude and comradeship, because he was in the firm when Howard s father used to carry him in his arms . Willy perceives his relationship with his boss as being far closer, than it really is. All Howard has to say to Willy, however, is that business is business . This a good example of Willy s misunderstanding of the co operative and benevolent nature of capitalism and his inadequacy to put aside feelings and emotions, which should not interfere with the business. Loman has been unable to learn that business ethics, the morality of his work community oppose the traditions he assumed were still in action: the personal ethics of honour. Willy also has his own, distinct perception of success. For him it is all about money and being well liked . That is how he saw Dave Singleman and assumed this was a perfect ideal of success, which he, himself, could achieve becoming a salesman. He imagines that pursuing the same career in the same merchandise field, he will be just like Dave Singleman: Without ever leaving his room, at the age of eighty four, make his living . • 37. Accounting Paper Introduction In recent decades, the global economy has undergone a rapid transformation, from an economy driven by traditional hard assets plants, warehouses and the like , to an economy driven by patents, software, intellectual property, and brands. These items fall into a category that has become hugely important in the world of financial reporting, intangible assets . Increasingly, the value of a firm is derived not from its tangible assets such as stock, property, plant and equipment but by its knowledge capital, its employees, even by its business processes. As Baruch Lev notes in 2001: Pfizer s value comes from its discovery activities (drug development, patents, trademarks), and from an unusually effective sale force ... The decline in the usefulness of accounting is a result of the difficulties in measuring an internally developed intangible asset, firstly how does one assign a value to knowledge capital, secondly, what is the fair value of this capital if no exchange has taken place? In the interest of conservatism and reliability, regulators require all investments in R amp;D to be immediately expensed. This creates a problem since the benefits of this research are not realized until a later period, thus the concept of matching goes out the window. This increased expenditure resulting from R amp;D expenditure distorts earnings on the income statement. In the event of a merger or an acquisition (M amp;A), in accordance with APB Opinion 17, any excess amount paid over the book value for a firm would be listed under the catch all term goodwill which was amortized over 40 years. As a result of these regulation standards, the gap between the market value of technology firms and their book value became ever larger. Efforts to Improve Financial Reporting The dangers of this ineffective accounting for intangibles were brought into a stark light in 2001 following the collapse of energy giant Enron, which once had been widely considered to be one of ...
