One such example involves one of King's most well–known and successful books; The Shining. In 1974 King visited Colorado on a vacation and
stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. This, along with his recovery from his alcohol addiction inspired the setting for King's third book, The
Shining. The Shining was about a man named Jack Torrance who was a writer and also a recovering alcoholic. After taking a job at as caretaker
during the off season of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, his wife Wendy Torrance, and his son, Danny Torrance move into the hotel as well for the
duration of the job. His son, however, possesses an ability known as "the shining" which allows him to see the events of the Overlook Hotel's
horrific past. Soon after a snowstorm hits, the demonic forces of the hotel cause Jack Torrance to gradually go insane causing him to attempt to

The Shining, by Stephen King, is a classic piece of American literature. Published in 1977, the story focuses on the Torrance family, and their horrific
adventure at the Overlook Hotel. Taking place in 1975 in the mountains of Colorado, the story takes a terrible turn towards death after Jack Torrance,
the father of the family, begins being taken over by the evil spirits that lurk in the hotel, and essentially loses his mind. Jack begins expressing
aggressive behavior and threatens to hurt his family. In the end, he not only threatens, but actually attempts to kill his five–year–old son, Danny, and

a pain. I remember this one quote that said, "If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot"(King 145).
I proceed to think, well shoot, I don't do either of those things. No wonder I don't like writing and I'm not very good at it. Then as I continued through

Stephen King is known to be one of the best horror writers out there. Born in Portland Maine Stephen King was raised by a single mother named
Nellie Ruth. Stephens father Donald Edwin disappeared one night after saying he was stepping out for cigarettes then never return home. So Stephen
never saw his father again and him and his mother were on their own. After the father abandon them they decided to move a settle down in Stratford
Connecticut but would move back to Main when he was eleven. From there Stephen would go on and graduate from Lisbon Falls High School in

Green Mile, a large, African–American man named John Coffey, seems to mirror the life of Jesus Christ, although the story is set in the death row
