Napoleon Bonaparte As A French Revolution
Started from a mere soldier, Napoleon Bonaparte was able to ascend the throne of an Emperor.
Frequently at war, he schemed and maneuvered his way through politics to be at the top of France.
This brings up the question of what made him want to be the Emperor of France. Napoleon
Bonaparte was a man that genuinely understood his own motives and ambitions. He was able to
foster the motive of saving Francefrom the bloody French Revolutionand ambition of gaining
power by utilizing revolutionary ideas combined with his own to accumulate power and stability of
imperial rule. This occurred due to being a product of the enlightenment, power hungry personality,
ego, and use of manipulation. Firstly, Napoleon was a product of the enlightenment era. He
combined French Revolutionary ideals with his own to further his objective in order to stabilize his
rule and gain the favour of the French population. According to Patterns of World History , life,
liberty, equality, social contract, property, representation, nation, popular sovereignty, and
constitution are the product of French ideals.[1] Napoleon only used liberty and equality which
were the most popular with the citizens.[2] He described that once Italy had tasted the benefits of a
wise and liberal administration, it would be simply impossible for them to return back to their old
way of life.[3] With the concept of liberty and equality incorporated into the constitution, it was
possible that Napoleon wanted the conquered

Hegemonic Normalcy Definition Essay
In order to adequately define a compound term such as hegemonic normalcy, it may be wise to first
look at the individual definitions of the base words that construct the term. According to the Oxford
Dictionary (2017), the word hegemonic means ruling or dominant in a political or social context;
the first definition of hegemony (of which hegemonic is a derivative) in the Merriam Webster
Dictionary(2017) is preponderant influence or authority over others. Normality (normalcy is the
North American equivalent) is defined by the Oxford Dictionary (2017) as the condition of being
normal; the state of being usual, typical, or expected. The Merriam WebsterDictionary (2017)
defines normalcy as the state or fact of being normal. Taking these definitions into account, a
working definition of hegemonic normalcy becomes apparent. The term can be defined as the
pervasive imposition of norms on society by a dominant class or authority. Of course, norms in a

People with impairments could no longer participate in the mainstream economy and had the
option of either being fixed by medical professionals or remaining ostracized. Basically, if an
individual did not fit the norm, they could not be part of mainstream society. This basic formula is
still relevant today due to the same hegemonic forces being at work since the industrial revolution.
Prior to industrialization, the concept of the ideal body existed in Western culture (Davis, 2017, p.
2). This ideal body was something to admire or even strive for, but no one was expected to actually
attain it. During the industrial revolution, as the standardization of the body was taking place, the
concept of the ideal was replaced with the concept of the

Applying Alfred Adler s Personality Theory to George W...
When choosing a famous person on which to do my research proposal on I decided on one of
my favorite presidents in my time. George W. Bush seemed to be the most real president we
have had in office since the 90 s. Next, I chose Adler s theory to apply to Bush do to the fact that
is the theorist that most closely applied to Bush s life. Let s start with some back ground about
George W. Bushand then apply Adler s theory. George W Bush was born on July 6, 1946. He was
born in New Haven Connecticut where his father was attending Yale University. George s father had
served in World War II as a Navy pilot ; he was using his GI bill like many other veterans to get
back into the flow of civilian life. (Wade, 1999) After his father... Show more content on

He became governor of Texas in 1994. In 1999 first governor to re elected for a four year term. He
became the 43rd president of the United States on January 20, 2001. (Wade, 1999)
Now on to how Alder applies to George W Bush s life. First let s start with the where bush stands
in his family constellation. He is the first born of six children. (Wade, 1999) According to Adler
prediction the first child is the problem child. First born children are achievement orientated and
feel entitled to rank. Since they were born first they always prefer to be on top. (Frager Fadiman,
2013)According to research done parents are more anxious with their first born and therefore
push them harder then any of their other children. Research also shows that many first born s
are type A personalities. (Frager Fadiman, 2013) He tried hard all his life to stay on top in his
parents eyes. George has always been an achiever. When he was young he attended Camp
Longhorn in the Texas Hill Country. (Wade, 1999) Even at Camp he received the highest honor
by receiving the Campfire Lighter Award. You can only receive it once and you receive it by
being an outstanding camper. (Wade, 1999)Since his was young George has followed in his father
s footsteps. He chose the same prep school his father, Phillips Academy in Massachusetts. Both him
and his father attended Yale University. (Wade, 1999) He later attended Harvard to get his masters

Conformity In Today s Society
Everybody strives to survive and has a will to stay alive. This is easily achieved by attaining the
basic necessities for survival; water, food, and shelter. In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games,
individuals have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into
their possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The
Capitol uses totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single
person s life. This system brings survival to a completely new level in this society: conformity.
Suzanne Collinsutilizes her novel s characters, along with their wills to survive, to convey that
conformity is key to survival, even in the real world. To conform... Show more content on

Not conforming to society s expectations, or even just standing out in any manner, can affect an
individual and how they are treated by others. They can be seen as an outsider and could
potentially be treated in such a way that could impact them negatively, hindering their survival.
Within a group of adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is
exemplified by constant criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in
order to survive in the world today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to
be happy in the long run. This is extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years
ago, as the modern age is extremely individualized. Everybody is encouraged to be themselves, but
within a set boundary of norms, which is ironic. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an
entertaining work of fiction, yet it unveils truths pertaining to society today. Survival in terms of
staying alive is typically not an issue in our world, but survival in terms of being socially accepted
is. Suzanne Collins beliefs on conformity and survival explain that former is impossible without the
latter. Survival cannot be achieved without conforming to any degree, as depicted by the Capitol s
totalitarianism and the importance of sponsors in The Hunger Games. Be yourself, just not too

The Quiet Kill Thesis
Quiet Kill The difficulty is to express them without squandering a quire of paper on an idea that
ought to be reduced to one glittering paragraph. We Americans love our prepositional phrases,
such as: Out of sight, off the charts, in the groove, on the ball, up the creek, down the tubes, in
the dumper, out the yin yang, off the wall, around the bend, below the belt, under the weather,
and of course under the table. When will Jesus bring the pork chops? The phone sounded again.
He picked it up and said. Hello? A man said with a deep voice, We got your love life and want a

Creative Writting on Personal Diseases
Susan is a young professional who just had her personal genome sequenced. She now knows she
carries the gene for Huntington s disease. She is agonizing over the decision about sharing this
information with others. She doesn t know what to do or who to tell. So she goes to a doctor to
get his opinion on if it would be right or not to let her family or boyfriend know. While she is
waiting in the waiting room she is imagining how her life would be if she had Huntington s disease.
What type of burden she would be on peoples their opinions about her. Her family would not be
able to leave because they would constantly have to take care of her whether that be her hopefully
husband or another family member. When she goes to any event in public she will make a scene or
outburst and how they all will judge her about her condition. Susan starts to hypervinalate in the
waiting room as all these scenarios run uncontroably through her head. Finally the doctorwalks in
and she focuses back in on reality. She explains the situation to the doctor that she found out she
carries the gene for Huntington s disease and she doesn t know who to tell. The doctor explains
what he would do and gives her recommendations. For her parents she shouldn t tell them because
they will not be able to do anything about it or they may be dead by the time she starts
experiencing it extremely. It would just but unnecessary stress put on her parents worrying about

Asset and Builders Square
Kmart Inc. and Builders Square Case
1. What happens if Kmart s managers decide NOT to accept the Leonard Green offer?
If Kmarts managers decide not to accept the offer they become limited in their options:
в—Џ They can continue to wait for a better bid, but they have struggled to get any one interested
in their company as it is. If they decide to turn down Green, but end up not securing another buyer,
they would be forced to return to Green who could offer a much lower bid because Kmart would
now be left out of options.
в—Џ It was also projected that Builders Square only had enough cash and working capital to
continue its operations for one more year without any other changes. So their other option is to try

only on the cash received, but also the credit worthiness and skill of the buyer. If the newly
merged company fails, Kmart would be in a much worse position to pay off the debt then if they
had just ran a nonprofitable Builders Square.
5. Leonard Green has put together some projections on the Builders Square/Hech combo. Assess
those projections in light of your industry analysis.
в—Џ According to exhibit 1 the Home Improvement market has been growing at a steady pace of
about 3.5% for the past 5 years. A lot of this growth steams from the do it yourself consumer
market which is the primary target for the Builders Square and Hechinger Co. merger. Although
Home Depot and Lowe s dominate the bulk of the home improvement market, only 6% of Home
Depot s sales come from building materials and related products compared to the combined 3.4%
for Builder s Square and Hechinger Co. As seen in exhibit 10, the Combined Projections for
Proposed Builders Square Hechinger Merger, Green projects an increased gross profit margin as
well as EBITDA assuming a 2% growth rate for the combined firm. Their profits do struggle in the
beginning due to an increasing amount of revenues lost to competitors along with their high count
of closing stores. After year 3 the effects of competitor openings and store closings levels off with
only a 1% change simulating what appears to be the end

Charter School Vs. Public Schools
Students Success
Why choose to go to Charter School rather than public school? Charter schools are public school of
choice, meaning families choose for their children. Federal legislation provides grants to help
charters to manage start up costs. They create better educational opportunities for the students
therefore they have higher expectations in teaching. Charter Schools and zoned (public) schools are
tuition free but unfortunately not everyone can get in to Charter school, since it works by lottery.
Everyone has the opportunity to apply and has a choice to attend Charlet School if the students are
lucky enough to get in. Charter schools are more effective for three reasons: they have higher
graduation rates, teachers are more prepared and devoted to their students, and teachers take a
greater responsibility for their students as they compete against Zoned Schools.
How important is it for a student to graduate? Isn t it a waste of time going to school for twelve
years and wasting all the government money and still not receive a diploma? That is why students
need to work harder to earn it and Charter schools are the ones that offer students to become more
educated. Joffee states, Charter schools have higher API scores and graduation rates than traditional
schools: Academically, comparing LAUSD Alliance charter high schools to LAUSD traditional
high schools located in the same neighborhoods, we found the Alliance schools have decisively
higher API scores, 762 vs.

Not everyone who is overly hyperactive, inattentive, or impulsive has an attention disorder. If most
people occasionally do all of these things than how do specialists assess whether a person has
ADHD? Specialists consider several critical questions to find an answer. Do these symptoms
occur more often than in other people the same age? Are they a continuous problem? Do the
behaviors occur in several settings or only in one specific place like the playground or office? The
person s pattern of behavior is compared to a set of criteria in a reference book called the

The Fundamental Principle Of Concept Of Parsimony
The most fundamental principle of behaviourism is the concept of parsimony. The law of
parsimony, which can be known in other variations as the (Occam s Razor or Morgan s canon )
defines that explanations should In fact account for the greatest number of facts or observations,
with the fewest number of principles or assumptions. (Underwood, 1957) When studying
behaviourism, the Key concepts found are the stimulus and response also known as the (S R)
equation. This involves classical and operant conditioning. These stimuli s allow the greatest
possibility to manipulate independent variables in order to study the dependent variable. The
measurable change in environment means that any event or situation may have some subsequent
changes in behaviour to reinforce learning. Theorist John Broadus Watson (1913) was the first
behaviourist to coin the ideas around behaviourism. He used contiguity to explain ideas and said
that practice could strengthen ones learning. His approach to behaviourism was very
parsimonious, using only a strict few simples to explain a variety of phenomena, e.g. The Little
Albert experiment . The idea round the experiment was that by pairing a white rat (CS) with a
loud bang (UCS) one could induce fear (UCR) which is known as classical conditioning. With
these observable events Watson s was able to influence many theorists and their contributions to
behaviourism. Firstly I refer to Skinner s work on

adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in
learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure)

.Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning,
stage for basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely
follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates
other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning
stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing,
that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s
problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut
and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new
behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s
repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and
action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic, active learning, problem finding, and
problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the form of a written report but

The Dispute Over Agricultural Trade Liberalization Between...
In 2002, a dispute over agricultural trade liberalization between the United States and Brazil arose.
Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO)
Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated
WTO trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for
Brazil, the World Trade Organizationagreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive
measures against the United States(Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil
decided to impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to
limit the damage that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make
a smart move. As a matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than
removing the subsidies. Over 150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in
2010 so that Brazil do not impose punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros
and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers. In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it
gives the US an important industry and helps the regulations. However, subsidizing US farmers has
some consequences. The cons argue that subsidies provided to US agricultural producers create
inefficiency in the global economy (unit 7). Also, according to economists, subsidizing stands in

Health And Safety Performance Through Integration Of...
Various issues affecting health and safety have characterized the construction industry. The
industry is considered as one of the high risk areas of operation both in developed and developing
nations. As such, various efforts have been introduced to help address this problem appropriately.
This paper undertakes a literature review in the issue of health and safetysystems characterizing
construction firms and the diverse management systems they are adopting to facilitate to help them
meet OHSAS 18001 certification standards. It shows that since construction firms have a major
influence on gross domestic product and employment in countries, there is a need to ensure that the
firms operating in this industry meet the health and safety standards needed. The paper embarks a
methodology for measuring the health and safety performance through integration of integrated
management system and the role of initial safety review in allowing firms to follow the
regulations, policies, and standards of operation, which in turn boost their compliance with OHS.
Furthermore, it recommends organizations, such as ABC Company to devise ways of inspecting
results and measuring performance of H S and OHSAS 18001 to ensure that companies realize
increased competitiveness in the marketplace. HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT

Refution Of The Trinity Doctrine By T. Chandler
In spite of a few shortcomings, Chandler s book is well written and easy to understand. He shows
that the Trinity Doctrine is related to Gnostic heresies that the Church condemns. Like most of the
Gnostic heresies, the Trinity Doctrine developed from Greek philosophy and Egyptian paganism,
especially Hermeticism. The notion of Christ as Godhas its origins in Gnosticism instead of the
New Testament. Thus, he shows that the TrinityDoctrine is essentially a Gnostic creed.
He gives a good history of the development of the Trinity Doctrine and shows that the Emperors of
Rome force Nicene Creed and the others Creeds related to the Trinity Doctrine on the Church. Thus,
the Creed of the Trinity Doctrine was more political than theological. Moreover, the ante Nicene
Fathers were not trinitarians in the sense of the Trinity Doctrine; they were unitarians. ... Show more

Moreover, he discusses several verses that refute the Trinity Doctrine by showing that Jesusis a
man, as opposed to the God man, and subordinate to God, i.e., not coequal with the Father.
Additionally, he discusses the concept of the pre existing Christ, which he concludes is false, and

Mt Adams Is The Second Largest Volcano
Introduction Simultaneously, Mt Adams is the second highest mountain and the most under
looked volcano in Washington State. In terms of volume, Mt. Adams is the second largest
volcano (behind Mt. Shasta) in the Cascade Range (Alt Hyndman 1984). Since it has been
relatively quiet for the past couple millennia, it does not receive as much attention as it s
counterparts and draws very few tourists due to it s remote setting (Hill 2004). Prior to recent
research, not much was known regarding Mt. Adam s eruptive history, frequency or how
explosive previous eruptions have been. (Hildreth Lanphere 1994). In this paper, I will discuss the
geography, history, geology, and hazards of Mt. Adams and it s surrounding area; focusing heavily
on its geology and geologic hazards. 2 пїјпїјFigure 2: Mt. Adams from the east (USGS 2013).
History In the early 1800 s, the Lewis and Clark Expedition noted seeing Mt. Adams, which they
initially mistook as Mount St. Helens. At this time, Mt. St. Helens had already been discovered
and given its name. This was the first documented sighting of the stratovolcano by European
explorers (USGS 2013). Mt. Adams got its name in a moderately shameful way. In the mid 1800
s, there was a plan to name the volcanoes in the Cascade Range after United States presidents. In
honor of President John Adams, a mapmaker named Mt. Adams by mistake, as the name was
originally meant for what is now today Mt. Hood. To make matters worst, Mt. Adams was not
originally included

Amita Baviskar s In The Belly Of The River
Amita Baviskar wrote the book In the belly of the river and the book talks about the opposition
by a tribal community to the certain kind of act done by the Government. Those people are
basically from the Bhilala tribes of a village named Anjanvara which is located in the Jhabua
district of Madhya Pradeshof western India. The Bhilala tribe was basically opposing the
construction of Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River. Through the book Amita Baviskar is
trying to bring a critical conscious about the environment issues among the readers of the book.
Through the book she emphasizes the society s existing knowledge and understanding towards the
development and also she talks about the issues and the conflicts that emerge from the
development. Amita Baviskar in her book is trying to show the lives of the Bhilala tribes who
have the fear to get displaced from the construction of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river.

Persuasive Essay On The Driving Age
Do you really wanna be locked up at your house until you re 18 just because you can t drive yet.
The driving age should not be raised it should stay at 16, teens that are sixteen years old should
be able to start driving. The first time behind the wheel, with no parents, just you and the car. Of
course, kids will have to be more careful, and more responsible while driving. The reasons why I
say that the driving age shouldn t change is because kids in high school are in sports or in after
school activities and parents may not be able to pick or drop them off, they can help their parents
with errands, and lastly, kids are working at that age.
Teens in high school are in sports or in after school activities. Having the kids to wait for the
parents to come and pick them up to go drop them off may be a pain cause the kids will be late
to practice. In our school, there are many after school activities such as tutoring, sports, clubs
and other events. If students were unable to drive, then most of the after school activities would
be unsuccessful. This student is talking about how being late to an activity or a sport will affect
you from playing or even joining a club. This really affects the students because they have after
school activities, work, games, meetings, and on top of that they get hours and hours of
homework. When being late to a game, or even work you re pretty much going to have to spend
extra time for being late or maybe not even showing up cause your parents didn t pick you up on
time. They can help their parents with errands.
Teens being able to help their parents with errands would be a lot more helpful. When parents
are not able to pick up someone or go get something from the store their kids could do that for
them. With their driving license students can at least run their small errands like paying a visit to
the library for research or going to the store to get something, even the small thing has a big
influence on us. Even the kids could go and do errands that they need to do, having them drive
would be so much better. Don t want constantly use their parents as a taxi While the kids having to
go somewhere they will be asking their parents to take them somewhere every

Blood As An Image In Macbeth Essay
Shakespeare uses the symbol of blood in MacBeth to represent treason, guilt, murder and death.
These ideas are constant throughout the book. There are many examples of blood representing
these three ideas in the book.
Blood is mentioned throughout the play and mainly in reference to murder or treason. The first
reference to blood is in MacBeth s soliloquy in Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 33 61, when Macbeth sees
the bloody dagger floating in the air before him. Also in this soliloquy on line 46 he sees quot;on
thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood quot;, this means that there is blood on the handle and spots
of blood on the handle. This is implying that the dagger was viciously and maliciously used on
someone. Shakespeare most likely put this in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, blood is being used to describe treason, murder and death.
Act 5, Scene 1 is the famous sleepwalking scene. While Lady MacBeth is sleepwalking she makes
many references to the evil deeds that Macbeth and herself have committed, most of which include
references to blood. In Act 5, Scene 1, Line 31, She goes through the motions of washing her hands
saying quot;Out damned spot! Out, I say quot; in reference to the blood that stained her hands after
smearing it all over the servants after assisting MacBeth in the treasonous murder of MacBeth.
This also represents her guilt of the murder. In Act 5, Scene 1, Line 38 she makes another
reference to the guilt saying, quot; What, will these hands ne er be clean? quot; The last reference
she makes to the blood being on her hands representing her guilt is in Act 5, Scene 1, Lines 44 45,
quot;Here s the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this hand. quot;
All these references are to murder, death, treason, and guilt.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare effectively conveys theme of death, murder, treason, and guilt
through the symbol of blood. Normally, the word blood makes us think about injury and being an
essential part of life. The symbol of blood was

Grandpa to play BINGO. Pop would take us kids, plus our cousin Douglas, and my best friend
Jessica, out to go eat and to the mall every weekend. His stories were so amazing to hear. I loved
when he would tell us about something he experienced as he was growing up. One story I
remember is about him and his twin brother Carol. As kids they would go into the cow fields and
pick up the baby cows and run with them. They thought it was so funny when the momma cows
would start running after them. He would tell us about how it was like before TV, before,
internet, before all of technology. Not only did he have stories for days, he was a very smart man
also. He could do math in his head like a genius. Of course he learned how to do math before there

Chef girlardee has been my grandparents nickname for me since I knew how to use a knife.
After school, I would walk in the door and instantly be able to make out exactly what was
cooking. As soon as I could make it out, I would rush up the small set of steps into the kitchen to
see what I could help my Mamaw with. Even if it was a simple mealthat could be prepared in ten
minutes, she always let me help with something. This happened almost every day from first to
fourth grade. Now at that time my skills were fairly limited I could peel potatoes, stir, mix, and
go downstairs to get anything from the pantry she needed. Looking back, I know I wasn t doing
much but she still always told me how helpful and sweet I was for helping. Spend that time with

Chesnutt s Evolving Treatment of the Color Line Through Naturalism in A Matter of Principle and
The House Behind the Cedar s
Charles W. Chesnutt, a well educated mulatto man, lived his life on the color line. Chesnutt s skin
was very light and was sometimes mistaken for a white man. Chesnutt chose to identify himself as
a black man, but in his works, his characters move back and forth across the color line and struggle
with the world they exist in. The Wife of His Youth and Other Storiesof the Color Line was
published one year before The House Behind the Cedars and included the short story, A Matter of
Principle, where Chesnutt clearly begins to explore what options are available to a mulatto man and

They educate themselves, gain wealth and prominence in their surroundings, emulate and

an exclusive mulatto circle that aspires to be white. Despite John and Mr. Clayton s feelings that
they have been denied their birthright and their inclinations towards being white, the powers that
be do not allow their acceptance into white society. A key component of literary naturalism is the
idea that the world is a greater force than man and will make man s determination to exert free will
and change his environment futile. No matter their passion to be seen as white, by heredity they are
black.
Rena, a mulatto woman, does not feel that she has been denied anything, yet she craves
opportunity. Her goals include a refined education, the ability to own nice things and move among
prestigious circles, and to begin a family that is honest and loving. Her philosophies distinguish her
from John and Clayton. Rena takes the character of Clayton to the next step. Rena values all
people, no matter what race formulates their blood. For Rena, advancement should come based on
hard work and ethics, not based on race or deception.
Having achieved an education and amassed wealth, the gap between John and Clayton and their
respective black communities naturally widened, but each man

Developing Two Bioanalytical Sensing Platforms Essay
The aim of this project is to develop two bioanalytical sensing platforms as a means to study
phenomena in organized 3D cellular microenvironments that appropriately model key aspects of
biological habitats. Three important questions, listed below, will be addressed during this project,
which we discuss in detail in Sections 3.1 3.3.
(1)Can we determine concentrations of cellular biogenic species (NO, H2O2) in organized
microcommunities using T CUAs?
(2)Can we monitor proximity dependent cellular behavior in dynamic microcolonies?
(3)Can we perform real time analyses of cellular behavior in response to in vivo environments?
3.1 T CUAs for Electrochemical Detection of Cellularly Derived Biogenic Species in Organized 3D
Microenvironments.
The complex environments in which cells interact can have diverse cellular populations and be
susceptible to changes that influence cellular survival, division, differentiation, death and virulence.
Such dynamic responses are often mediated, at least in part, by changes in the concentration of
biogenic signaling molecules. Hence, detection of these chemical species is key to understanding
cellular communication. Using T CUAs as electrochemical sensors in tandem with Вµ3DP cell
cultures, we will electrochemically detect two signaling molecules, NO and H2O2, directly from
macrophages and S. gordonii cells, respectively.
Macrophages are immunological (eukaryotic) cells that respond to bacterial infections within in an
organism by secreting

Polar Bear Challenges
Polar bear is the largest land carnivore in the world, it is an animal native to the Arctic. They live
without definite residence but migrate across the ice and through the seas from Russia to Alaska,
Canada to Greenland and onto the Svalbard archipelago. Adequate food and energy are the key for
polar bear to survival in the harsh arctic environment. In recent years, however, the polar bears have
faced enormous challenges in arctic, where they have no natural enemy. It is well known that the
normal temperature of human body is around 36.5 degree centigrade, sometimes, sudden illness
causes a rise in body temperature. Every sudden increase in temperature of human body is a threat
to human health. The same is happening with the global climate system. On the surface, the
temperature is just a fraction of degree centigrade but the air temperature can be changed very
severe during a certain period and it also causes a chain reaction of weather and climate. The
Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that since the industrial revolution, the
average temperatures of Earthsurface has risen by 0.6 degree centigrade (Lisa V. Alexander).
Moreover, the rise in temperature is concentrated in recent decades, there has been an upward trend
of about 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade. Global warminghas already affecting the Earth s

As you can see, it is a tubelike structure made of muscle and lined with mucous membrane. The
pharynx functions as part of the respiratory and digestive system because it is located behind the
nasal cavities and the mouth. It is the structure that we refer to as the throat. It is about twelve and a
half centimeters long and consists of three parts; the nasopharynx, oropharynx and the
laryngopharynx. (Anatomy.tv, n.d.) The esophagus branches off of the pharynx which carries food
to the stomach. Swallowing takes place in the pharynx partly as a reflex and partly under voluntary
control. The tongue and soft palate pushes food into the pharynx, which closes off the trachea. The
food then enters the esophagus. The esophagus is a muscular tube extending from the pharynx to
the stomach. . (Mohan, 2010). It is about 25 centimeters long. The production of mucus by glands
in the mucosal lining as you can see lubricates the tube to permit easier passage of food moving
toward the stomach. (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). Food is pushed through the esophagus and into the
stomach by a series of contractions called peristalsis. The lower esophageal sphincter is just before
the opening to the stomach. It opens to let food pass into the stomach and closes to keep it there.

My patient, Barbara Green, has a daughter named Ivy. Ivy has come to me with concerns that her
mother has not been taking any of her medication to treat her diabetes and heart disease. She
says that if she does not prompt her mother to take the medication, she will forget to take it for

worrisome. I am going to do some research on Alzheimer s and dementia, and see if Barbara
could be developing either or both of these illnesses. I will analyze the symptoms, compare my
findings to my patients symptoms, and produce a diagnosis and treatment for my patient. I will

and Alzheimer s falls under that disease. Majority of the people that suffer from dementia also
suffer with symptoms of Alzheimer s. In fact about 25 million people and counting are affected by
it (Chong, 2005). The other common forms of dementia include Lewy Body, Frontotemporal Lobar

Nothing can be more frustrating for a person to go to a shop only to realize that the item they
wanted is out of stock and might be restocked at a vague date. This not only makes you
unreasonably angry, but it also means that you have to keep taking time out to check if they have
got the item you want. Online stores eliminate the chances of this happening by placing out of
stock signs next to the product.

Ap Euro Dbq Absolute Monarchies
The 16th and 17th centuries were a powerful time for European monarchies. Absolutism had taken
hold, allowing Kings to have powerful rules over their states. This was due to the absolute
monarchies that had taken hold and the belief in a divine right that kept them there. This allowed
the countries under the rule of powerful monarchs to thrive and prosper. Absolute monarchies and
the belief in a divine right to rule made absolutism a period of prosperity in 16th and 17th century
Europe. Absolute monarchies helped to make Europe prosperous during this period. This type of
government gave the king complete power over his state, leaving the people of the state with little
to no influence in the government. This helped to control and keep peace within the country. In
The Prince, by Machiavelli, it is stated that, ... fear is accompanied by the dread of punishment,
which never relaxes (Document A). A leader that provoked fear of punishment in his people was,
in turn, a strong and powerful leader. The fear of breaking the laws and rules of the state kept the

Response To Bring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby
Response to Bring Back Flogging 1.Jeff Jacoby is a writer for The Boston Globe and was first
to receive the Breindal Prize in 1999. However, I agree that we should bring back flogging for
only the misdemeanor cases and cutting down cost in prisons. Summary To Bring Back Flogging
2.In Bring Back Flogging, Jeff Jacoby states that there are too many people being incarcerated and
instead the use of corporal punishment should come back. Mr. Jacoby states that with the use of
corporal punishment, such as flogging or paddling, there would be a lot more space in prisons and
less criminals overall. The author is afraid that without a good punishing system nobody would
learn from their mistakes and they would just keep repeating them. Jeff... Show more content on

Jacoby claims that America uses too many crimes for someone to go to prison, Commit murder;
go to prison. Sell cocaine; go to prison. Kite checks; go to prison. (Jacoby, 1997, P. 1) There is a
lot more people, with misdemeanor cases, that does not need to be in prison and that it cost a
lot of money for prisons to tend for an inmate. In 1997 Jacoby states that, the price of keeping
criminals in cages is appalling a common estimate is $30,000 per inmate per year. (Jacoby,
1997, P. 2) However; in the year 2012, CBS NEWS reported In states like Connecticut,
Washington state, New York, it s anywhere from $50,000 to $60,000. (CBS NEWS, 2012) Over
the past 25 years the cost to keep just one inmate has more than doubled. It is sure to go up within
the next ten to fifteen years too. Finally, Jacoby talks about the horrors of what actually happens
in prison. 5.In prison there are horrors people should be aware of. Jacoby states, in 1994 that more
than 200,000 prison inmates are raped each year, usually to the indifference of the guards. (Jacoby,
1997, P. 2) A lot of the seventeen year olds and up that go to prison with lesser charges shouldn t
have to deal with this psychological trauma and should rather want to go through corporal

The Taiping Rebellion And The French Revolution
Throughout history, rebellions and revolutions shaped societies and created better conditions for
the people of those societies. The Taiping Rebellion and the French Revolution successfully shaped
their societies by means of political and social reforms. They were both influenced to later achieve
their unique successes because of a multitude of pushing factors, such as the existing social and
political conditions of Chinaand France. Natural disasters, breaking away from tradition, and China
s loss in the Opium War contributed to the ideology of the Taiping Rebellion; to restore China to its
previous greatness and overthrowing the government. Likewise in France the conditions were not
any better. Hunger and poverty were rampant in the cities of France. Bankruptcy and a corrupt
government only made things worst. These conditions set the foundation for the ideology of the
French Revolution; acquiring liberty, equality, and fraternity. Together, each of these societies found
their successes in different ways. France created major changes in the government and legal system
which were more immediate and apparent than in China, where they achieved successes that took
longer to become apparent, and is viewed as more effective in a long term point of view. Previous
political conditions played major roles, as it fueled the need for change within these communities.
In China, the Ch ing Dynasty caused unrest within the society, as people thought that they corrupted

Environmental Influences On Soccer
The people of the United States have been increasingly interested in soccer, both in terms of
viewing and playing respectively. This rapid growth is not just related to soccer though, people
s background and environmental influences have also played a large role. I wish to explore how
these factors affect attitudes towards activities such as soccer. There are many things that go into
affecting the way that Americans receive soccer. The idea that the game itself is a foreign game,
that it wasn t created here by Americans, is something that some people use to put it into a
negative light. That is a polarizing perspective, because for other people, they take a liking to the
game because of the fact that it is something different, and that if they themselves are from a
different part of the world, this is something that is more comfortable for them to take an interest
in. It s almost as if the two of you have something in common, and even something as subtle as that
is why many people pique their interest in the game. Some people who claim to be truly American
are quick to judge things that are not deemed American under their own definitions of what makes
something American. Meanwhile, if you look at America itself, the whole basis of it was that it
was a magnificent melting pot of many different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Little Mermaid Analysis
Fairy tales often resemble what culture was like during the time in which they were written. They
tell us the story of women s struggle and survival throughout history, in societies with rules dictated
by men. Whether it be surviving the torment of a wicked stepmother or the consequences of just
being curious, one issue stays the same, the longing to escape the expectations that social norms
impose is evident with just about any story. In this paper, I will compare the similarities and
differences, and show a strong relationship between Hans Christian Anderson s, The Little Mermaid
and the movie Boyz n the Hood, written and directed by John Singleton.
The Little Mermaid, is a historical fairy tale written in the year 1836. During this time in history,
women were expected to live a certain way. The ideal woman was submissive; her job was to be
a meek, obedient, loving wife who was totally subservient to the men around her (Citation 1).
This is clearly the case in this story in many instances from beginning to end. The little mermaid
is expected to abide the rules of the sea. She is expected to follow the path of her sisters who are
content with living under the sea and is to live in her own little plot in the garden just like
everyone else, but she wasn t like the rest of her fellow mermaids. She had always had an
infatuation with the surface, always longing for her 15th birthday when she would be able to rise
to the surface and see the world of humans. Once she laid eyes on the human world and the
handsome young prince, her desire to break free from the social norm consumed her every thought.
Boyz in the Hood, is a racially charged look into the life of black males in the ghettos of California.
It took place in a time where racism was alive and well, and drug laws like the 1 100 crack/powder
disparity were being passed targeting black people disproportionally. Many cases of police
brutality and even mobs attacking and murdering black men made the headlines in the 1980s. This
movie, much like The Little Mermaid, is about the struggle of two males who are trying to break
free from the social norms imposed by society. The protagonist in this movie, Tre, moves to South
Central, Los Angeles to live

To Kill A Mockingbird Book Vs Movie Essay
When a novel is turned into a movie, the movie director usually to changes or cuts certain scenes.
The To kill a Mockingbird movie wasn t able to elaborate on certain characters that Harper Lee
wrote about. Why did the movie extract what scenes they did? The book is revolved around the
children Scout, Jem, and Dill to a certain extent. The movie focused on big name actor actor
Gregory Peckwho played Atticus. In order to make more money, the movie conveyed Atticus as
the focal point . Because of this, Scout had few lines. The beginning of the book starts out kind
of slow and allows the reader to get accustomed to each character. The movie skips through most
of that in order to hook the viewers in. For example, the movie shows Scout rolling in the tire
without even telling the backstory of the Radley s and telling you who Boo is. The movie cut
the scenes with the fire at Miss. Maudie s house, and the incident with Ms. Dubose and Jem. The
movie didn t really mention Boo as much as I was expecting it to. These changes were most
likely made because the director chose to have the movie revolve around the trial. Atticus says it is
a sin to kill a mockingbirdat the diner table. The books says this after the children receive airsoft
rifles. The children never receive airsoft rifles in the movie. Therefore, the director was forced to
work this important line in another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scout is in her ham costume and they way it looks takes some intensity out of the situation. The
scene also doesn t show Boo is the one that saved them. This makes the reveal that happens more
powerful. After the reveal happens Atticus leaves his kids in a room with Boo radley. This might
show how thankful Atticus is or how good a person Boo is, but it honestly just makes Atticus look
like he isn t the best father and that the business he is going to take care of is more important than

Complementary and Alternative Medicine in New Zealand
How do people from the general population decide to use complementary and alternative medicine
(CAM) in New Zealand?
Complementary and alternative medicine is a broad domain of healing resources and techniques
that encompass all health systems, modalities, and practices and their accompanying theories and
beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society
or culture in a given historical period. CAM includes all such practices and ideas self defined by
their users as preventing or treating illness or promoting well being (O Connor, Calabrese,
Cardena, 1997). This definition is used by the New Zealand health system as advised by the
Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health (MACCAH) (2004).
New Zealand is lacking CAM research with the results of the 2013 National Census not yet
available. The last National Census figures on CAM were conducted between 2006 and 2007 and
reveal little about the social and psychological dynamics that motivate clients to use CAM
(Ministry of Health, 2008). How could I explore this process? My first choice is for grounded theory
methodology based on the interpretive paradigm.
Interpretive research focuses on how meanings are constructed and maintained by individuals and
groups within different social and historical contexts. As Rubin and Rubin (2012) suggest,
qualitative interviewers examine the complexity of the real world by exploring multiple

Department 19 Villains
Essay English
Through the study of the three texts; Department 19 by Will Hill, Macbeth the play and The
Social Network by David Fincher, it is evident that literary villains are archetypes that often
represent the evil side of human nature. One may argue that each villain has certain traits that
allow the reader to be drawn to the terror and horror of their deeds yet also allow readers to reflect
upon the society that has created such individuals. Authors stray their villains from the stereotype
to keep the modern audience engaged.
Often the physical appearance can define the villain, as it can be the most appealing and revealing
area of any individual at first glance. In Department 19, Will Hill uses the characteristics of ... Show

Alexandru s villainy is almost entirely reliant on his behaviour. Marie squeezed her eyes shut as
Anderson let out a scream, a high pitched howl..He was smiling at her... something red flew away
into the shadow Hill uses horror imagery, to depict the intimidating personality of Alexandru, he
willingly tears out the tongue of his servant, without dismay. Alexandru is well educated this can
be seen in his manner when speaking; We haven t been introduced, it said, favouring her with a
dazzling smile of sharp white teeth. My name is Alexandru Rusmanov and you, of course, are
Marie Carpenter by creating a polished superficial exterior it often allows for the deception to be
hidden and creates dramatic irony as the audience knows Hill has portrayed him with duality traits.
As demonstrated in these texts there are different ways that villains can be represented. In the post
modern age often the role of villain is not as clear cut and the morality and ethical outcomes of the
characters actions are represented as ambiguous. In a text such as The Social Network by David
Fincher many relationships inverse and promises are broken. Finch almost leaves it for the audience
to decide on the true villain. Authors use deception and machiavellianism to successfully integrate
the villain into the theme and provide additional dimensions. In the Social Network, Mark

Purpose Of Government
To adequately explain the purpose of government, we must first understand what government is.
Humans learned early on the importance of needing an organized set of rules to govern over one
another. Whether it was a dictatorship, a monarchy, or even a democracy, history has provided us
with many examples of various structures dating back to some of the earliest known civilizations.
The one thing they all held in common is that they embraced a system, also known as a social
contract to create and enforce laws for those living within their lands. What most interesting is all
the influences our founding fathers drew upon when creating the American governmental system.
So that leads us to the next question of inevitability. Inevitable means something is certain to
happen or unavoidable. It can be argued that our society could function without a government
structure in place. We have seen main stream media and reality television attempt to demonstrate
this in programs such as Utopia created by Fox. However, what happened and will always happen
is the formation of a natural hierarchy. With those with necessary desirable skills put above others
in a pecking order. In addition, the size of the group does not matter, whether its 10 or 10,000
people, someone will undoubtedly step forward. Preventing anarchy and chaos from prevailing.
Now, not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, it is never easy to change attitudes, especially when we are attempting to change them
around an entity that is so mistrusted. Yet, there is a correlation between the overall state of the
nation and the general satisfaction of its citizens. People are generally happier today than they
were ten years ago because gas prices are down, the stock market is performing better and the job
market is stronger as well. Unfortunately, however these indicators alone are not enough to restore
full confidence in our government or its leaders on any

Why The Foster System Is Ineffective
Why the Foster System is Ineffective Is the foster system really a good place for any person?
Most adolescents would have to deal with other adolescents always starting fights, degrading
you, and stealing your belongings. Adolescents in the foster care system turn to crime, have to
deal with depression, and deal with having no one to really trust. When I was in the system, I
was stabbed, I was shot, and constantly bullied; I hated each day of being in the foster system. I
saw everyday as a struggle with no one to turn to. The only peace I had was to read a book and
immerse myself into a make believe world. I believe the foster system is ineffective because
children in the foster system struggle through their experiences of group homes and foster homes.
First of all, children in the foster system have no one to turn to that they can truly trust. Most
children in the foster system do not trust many people because of the fact that many see that their
own parents ended leaving them. Some adolescents in the foster system saw therapists and social
workers as just being paid to listen to them and not actually help them with their problems. When I
was eight, I moved into a foster home and the foster parents had their own biological son that was
treated like a little angel, yet I got treated as someone that was unwanted in their home. The foster
parent s son would end up breaking something and blame it on me and when I would tell the foster
parents that it was their son

How Macbeth Changes Essay
Macbeth is the main character in the play and makes a large impact on the entire storyline. He
makes drastic changes; he changes from good to evil. Many things caused this change to happen.
When the story first starts, Macbeth is a very loyal and respected general in King Duncan s army.
In the second scene we meet a Captain reporting from the battlefield, praising Macbeth; For brave
Macbeth well he deserves that name. Till he fac d the slave, Which ne er shook hands, nor bade
farewell to him till he unseam d him from the nave to th chaps and fix d his head upon our
battlement. To which Duncan replies, O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman. This clearly shows that
Macbeth is a ruthless warrior who would stop at nothing to defend his country. He has high
morals and one of his quotes is I dare do all that may become a man ,Who dares do more is none.

to Macduff s home and kill his family. This would show Macduff that he had better watch out,
and it would scare Macduff. Macduff is horrified to his family getting murdered because of his
absence. I believe that before Macbeth murdered king Duncan he would not have decided to kill
innocent women and children. This shows that he made horrible changes to survive. This is also
shown in the novel Lord of the Flies, when Jack first came to island he couldn t bring himself to
kill the pig and even harm the other animals. However, by the end of the book, he personally

The Effect Of Self- Control On Children
An experiment that explores the self control in children. A way to test one s willpower and the
willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into
what Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on
the effect marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to
waiting to have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change
profoundly. The key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because
after all, self control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel
was a psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self
regulation (Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the
mind, and its effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and
identity, and social cognition(Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an
advantage when creating an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable
with what is being studied and the results that come in. With the background of looking at goal
setting and motivation that he has, it gives this experiment more credibility as a whole. The test
was put in place to be made toward kids and their reactions when it comes to having a plate of

  • 2. Napoleon Bonaparte As A French Revolution Started from a mere soldier, Napoleon Bonaparte was able to ascend the throne of an Emperor. Frequently at war, he schemed and maneuvered his way through politics to be at the top of France. This brings up the question of what made him want to be the Emperor of France. Napoleon Bonaparte was a man that genuinely understood his own motives and ambitions. He was able to foster the motive of saving Francefrom the bloody French Revolutionand ambition of gaining power by utilizing revolutionary ideas combined with his own to accumulate power and stability of imperial rule. This occurred due to being a product of the enlightenment, power hungry personality, ego, and use of manipulation. Firstly, Napoleon was a product of the enlightenment era. He combined French Revolutionary ideals with his own to further his objective in order to stabilize his rule and gain the favour of the French population. According to Patterns of World History , life, liberty, equality, social contract, property, representation, nation, popular sovereignty, and constitution are the product of French ideals.[1] Napoleon only used liberty and equality which were the most popular with the citizens.[2] He described that once Italy had tasted the benefits of a wise and liberal administration, it would be simply impossible for them to return back to their old way of life.[3] With the concept of liberty and equality incorporated into the constitution, it was possible that Napoleon wanted the conquered ... • 3. Hegemonic Normalcy Definition Essay In order to adequately define a compound term such as hegemonic normalcy, it may be wise to first look at the individual definitions of the base words that construct the term. According to the Oxford Dictionary (2017), the word hegemonic means ruling or dominant in a political or social context; the first definition of hegemony (of which hegemonic is a derivative) in the Merriam Webster Dictionary(2017) is preponderant influence or authority over others. Normality (normalcy is the North American equivalent) is defined by the Oxford Dictionary (2017) as the condition of being normal; the state of being usual, typical, or expected. The Merriam WebsterDictionary (2017) defines normalcy as the state or fact of being normal. Taking these definitions into account, a working definition of hegemonic normalcy becomes apparent. The term can be defined as the pervasive imposition of norms on society by a dominant class or authority. Of course, norms in a critical disabilitystudies context refer to physical attributes... People with impairments could no longer participate in the mainstream economy and had the option of either being fixed by medical professionals or remaining ostracized. Basically, if an individual did not fit the norm, they could not be part of mainstream society. This basic formula is still relevant today due to the same hegemonic forces being at work since the industrial revolution. Prior to industrialization, the concept of the ideal body existed in Western culture (Davis, 2017, p. 2). This ideal body was something to admire or even strive for, but no one was expected to actually attain it. During the industrial revolution, as the standardization of the body was taking place, the concept of the ideal was replaced with the concept of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Applying Alfred Adler s Personality Theory to George W... When choosing a famous person on which to do my research proposal on I decided on one of my favorite presidents in my time. George W. Bush seemed to be the most real president we have had in office since the 90 s. Next, I chose Adler s theory to apply to Bush do to the fact that is the theorist that most closely applied to Bush s life. Let s start with some back ground about George W. Bushand then apply Adler s theory. George W Bush was born on July 6, 1946. He was born in New Haven Connecticut where his father was attending Yale University. George s father had served in World War II as a Navy pilot ; he was using his GI bill like many other veterans to get back into the flow of civilian life. (Wade, 1999) After his father... He became the 43rd president of the United States on January 20, 2001. (Wade, 1999) Now on to how Alder applies to George W Bush s life. First let s start with the where bush stands in his family constellation. He is the first born of six children. (Wade, 1999) According to Adler prediction the first child is the problem child. First born children are achievement orientated and feel entitled to rank. Since they were born first they always prefer to be on top. (Frager Fadiman, 2013)According to research done parents are more anxious with their first born and therefore push them harder then any of their other children. Research also shows that many first born s are type A personalities. (Frager Fadiman, 2013) He tried hard all his life to stay on top in his parents eyes. George has always been an achiever. When he was young he attended Camp Longhorn in the Texas Hill Country. (Wade, 1999) Even at Camp he received the highest honor by receiving the Campfire Lighter Award. You can only receive it once and you receive it by being an outstanding camper. (Wade, 1999)Since his was young George has followed in his father s footsteps. He chose the same prep school his father, Phillips Academy in Massachusetts. Both him and his father attended Yale University. (Wade, 1999) He later attended Harvard to get his masters ... • 5. Conformity In Today s Society Everybody strives to survive and has a will to stay alive. This is easily achieved by attaining the basic necessities for survival; water, food, and shelter. In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games, individuals have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into their possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The Capitol uses totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single person s life. This system brings survival to a completely new level in this society: conformity. Suzanne Collinsutilizes her novel s characters, along with their wills to survive, to convey that conformity is key to survival, even in the real world. To conform... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not conforming to society s expectations, or even just standing out in any manner, can affect an individual and how they are treated by others. They can be seen as an outsider and could potentially be treated in such a way that could impact them negatively, hindering their survival. Within a group of adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is exemplified by constant criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in order to survive in the world today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to be happy in the long run. This is extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years ago, as the modern age is extremely individualized. Everybody is encouraged to be themselves, but within a set boundary of norms, which is ironic. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an entertaining work of fiction, yet it unveils truths pertaining to society today. Survival in terms of staying alive is typically not an issue in our world, but survival in terms of being socially accepted is. Suzanne Collins beliefs on conformity and survival explain that former is impossible without the latter. Survival cannot be achieved without conforming to any degree, as depicted by the Capitol s totalitarianism and the importance of sponsors in The Hunger Games. Be yourself, just not too ... If Kmarts managers decide not to accept the offer they become limited in their options: в—Џ They can continue to wait for a better bid, but they have struggled to get any one interested in their company as it is. If they decide to turn down Green, but end up not securing another buyer, they would be forced to return to Green who could offer a much lower bid because Kmart would now be left out of options. в—Џ It was also projected that Builders Square only had enough cash and working capital to continue its operations for one more year without any other changes. Leonard Green has put together some projections on the Builders Square/Hech combo. Assess those projections in light of your industry analysis. в—Џ According to exhibit 1 the Home Improvement market has been growing at a steady pace of about 3.5% for the past 5 years. A lot of this growth steams from the do it yourself consumer market which is the primary target for the Builders Square and Hechinger Co. merger. Although Home Depot and Lowe s dominate the bulk of the home improvement market, only 6% of Home Depot s sales come from building materials and related products compared to the combined 3.4% for Builder s Square and Hechinger Co. As seen in exhibit 10, the Combined Projections for Proposed Builders Square Hechinger Merger, Green projects an increased gross profit margin as well as EBITDA assuming a 2% growth rate for the combined firm. • 11. Charter School Vs. Public Schools Students Success Why choose to go to Charter School rather than public school? Charter schools are public school of choice, meaning families choose for their children. Federal legislation provides grants to help charters to manage start up costs. They create better educational opportunities for the students therefore they have higher expectations in teaching. Charter Schools and zoned (public) schools are tuition free but unfortunately not everyone can get in to Charter school, since it works by lottery. Everyone has the opportunity to apply and has a choice to attend Charlet School if the students are lucky enough to get in. Charter schools are more effective for three reasons: they have higher graduation rates, teachers are more prepared and devoted to their students, and teachers take a greater responsibility for their students as they compete against Zoned Schools. How important is it for a student to graduate? Isn t it a waste of time going to school for twelve years and wasting all the government money and still not receive a diploma? That is why students need to work harder to earn it and Charter schools are the ones that offer students to become more educated. Joffee states, Charter schools have higher API scores and graduation rates than traditional schools: Academically, comparing LAUSD Alliance charter high schools to LAUSD traditional high schools located in the same neighborhoods, we found the Alliance schools have decisively higher API scores, 762 vs. ... • 14. The Fundamental Principle Of Concept Of Parsimony The most fundamental principle of behaviourism is the concept of parsimony. The law of parsimony, which can be known in other variations as the (Occam s Razor or Morgan s canon ) defines that explanations should In fact account for the greatest number of facts or observations, with the fewest number of principles or assumptions. (Underwood, 1957) When studying behaviourism, the Key concepts found are the stimulus and response also known as the (S R) equation. This involves classical and operant conditioning. These stimuli s allow the greatest possibility to manipulate independent variables in order to study the dependent variable. The measurable change in environment means that any event or situation may have some subsequent changes in behaviour to reinforce learning. Theorist John Broadus Watson (1913) was the first behaviourist to coin the ideas around behaviourism. He used contiguity to explain ideas and said that practice could strengthen ones learning. His approach to behaviourism was very parsimonious, using only a strict few simples to explain a variety of phenomena, e.g. The Little Albert experiment . The idea round the experiment was that by pairing a white rat (CS) with a loud bang (UCS) one could induce fear (UCR) which is known as classical conditioning. With these observable events Watson s was able to influence many theorists and their contributions to behaviourism. Firstly I refer to Skinner s work on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing, that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and action oriented. • 18. The Dispute Over Agricultural Trade Liberalization Between... In 2002, a dispute over agricultural trade liberalization between the United States and Brazil arose. Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO) Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated WTO trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for Brazil, the World Trade Organizationagreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive measures against the United States(Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil decided to impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to limit the damage that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make a smart move. As a matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than removing the subsidies. Over 150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in 2010 so that Brazil do not impose punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers. In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it gives the US an important industry and helps the regulations. However, subsidizing US farmers has some consequences. The cons argue that subsidies provided to US agricultural producers create inefficiency in the global economy (unit 7). • 19. Health And Safety Performance Through Integration Of... Various issues affecting health and safety have characterized the construction industry. The industry is considered as one of the high risk areas of operation both in developed and developing nations. As such, various efforts have been introduced to help address this problem appropriately. This paper undertakes a literature review in the issue of health and safetysystems characterizing construction firms and the diverse management systems they are adopting to facilitate to help them meet OHSAS 18001 certification standards. It shows that since construction firms have a major influence on gross domestic product and employment in countries, there is a need to ensure that the firms operating in this industry meet the health and safety standards needed. The paper embarks a methodology for measuring the health and safety performance through integration of integrated management system and the role of initial safety review in allowing firms to follow the regulations, policies, and standards of operation, which in turn boost their compliance with OHS. Furthermore, it recommends organizations, such as ABC Company to devise ways of inspecting results and measuring performance of H S and OHSAS 18001 to ensure that companies realize increased competitiveness in the marketplace. • 20. Refution Of The Trinity Doctrine By T. Chandler In spite of a few shortcomings, Chandler s book is well written and easy to understand. He shows that the Trinity Doctrine is related to Gnostic heresies that the Church condemns. Like most of the Gnostic heresies, the Trinity Doctrine developed from Greek philosophy and Egyptian paganism, especially Hermeticism. The notion of Christ as Godhas its origins in Gnosticism instead of the New Testament. Thus, he shows that the TrinityDoctrine is essentially a Gnostic creed. He gives a good history of the development of the Trinity Doctrine and shows that the Emperors of Rome force Nicene Creed and the others Creeds related to the Trinity Doctrine on the Church. Thus, the Creed of the Trinity Doctrine was more political than theological. Moreover, the ante Nicene Fathers were not trinitarians in the sense of the Trinity Doctrine; they were unitarians. ... • 21. Mt Adams Is The Second Largest Volcano Introduction Simultaneously, Mt Adams is the second highest mountain and the most under looked volcano in Washington State. In terms of volume, Mt. Adams is the second largest volcano (behind Mt. Shasta) in the Cascade Range (Alt Hyndman 1984). Since it has been relatively quiet for the past couple millennia, it does not receive as much attention as it s counterparts and draws very few tourists due to it s remote setting (Hill 2004). Prior to recent research, not much was known regarding Mt. Adam s eruptive history, frequency or how explosive previous eruptions have been. (Hildreth Lanphere 1994). In this paper, I will discuss the geography, history, geology, and hazards of Mt. Adams and it s surrounding area; focusing heavily on its geology and geologic hazards. 2 пїјпїјFigure 2: Mt. Adams from the east (USGS 2013). History In the early 1800 s, the Lewis and Clark Expedition noted seeing Mt. Adams, which they initially mistook as Mount St. Helens. At this time, Mt. St. Helens had already been discovered and given its name. This was the first documented sighting of the stratovolcano by European explorers (USGS 2013). Mt. Adams got its name in a moderately shameful way. In the mid 1800 s, there was a plan to name the volcanoes in the Cascade Range after United States presidents. In honor of President John Adams, a mapmaker named Mt. Adams by mistake, as the name was originally meant for what is now today Mt. Hood. To make matters worst, Mt. The driving age should not be raised it should stay at 16, teens that are sixteen years old should be able to start driving. The first time behind the wheel, with no parents, just you and the car. Of course, kids will have to be more careful, and more responsible while driving. The reasons why I say that the driving age shouldn t change is because kids in high school are in sports or in after school activities and parents may not be able to pick or drop them off, they can help their parents with errands, and lastly, kids are working at that age. Teens in high school are in sports or in after school activities. Having the kids to wait for the parents to come and pick them up to go drop them off may be a pain cause the kids will be late to practice. In our school, there are many after school activities such as tutoring, sports, clubs and other events. If students were unable to drive, then most of the after school activities would be unsuccessful. This student is talking about how being late to an activity or a sport will affect you from playing or even joining a club. This really affects the students because they have after school activities, work, games, meetings, and on top of that they get hours and hours of homework. When being late to a game, or even work you re pretty much going to have to spend extra time for being late or maybe not even showing up cause your parents didn t pick you up on time. They can help their parents with errands. Teens being able to help their parents with errands would be a lot more helpful. When parents are not able to pick up someone or go get something from the store their kids could do that for them. With their driving license students can at least run their small errands like paying a visit to the library for research or going to the store to get something, even the small thing has a big influence on us. • 24. Blood As An Image In Macbeth Essay Shakespeare uses the symbol of blood in MacBeth to represent treason, guilt, murder and death. These ideas are constant throughout the book. There are many examples of blood representing these three ideas in the book. Blood is mentioned throughout the play and mainly in reference to murder or treason. The first reference to blood is in MacBeth s soliloquy in Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 33 61, when Macbeth sees the bloody dagger floating in the air before him. Also in this soliloquy on line 46 he sees quot;on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood quot;, this means that there is blood on the handle and spots of blood on the handle. This also represents her guilt of the murder. In Act 5, Scene 1, Line 38 she makes another reference to the guilt saying, quot; What, will these hands ne er be clean? quot; The last reference she makes to the blood being on her hands representing her guilt is in Act 5, Scene 1, Lines 44 45, quot; Here s the smell of the blood still. Developing Two Bioanalytical Sensing Platforms Essay The aim of this project is to develop two bioanalytical sensing platforms as a means to study phenomena in organized 3D cellular microenvironments that appropriately model key aspects of biological habitats. Three important questions, listed below, will be addressed during this project, which we discuss in detail in Sections 3.1 3.3. (1)Can we determine concentrations of cellular biogenic species (NO, H2O2) in organized microcommunities using T CUAs? (2)Can we monitor proximity dependent cellular behavior in dynamic microcolonies? (3)Can we perform real time analyses of cellular behavior in response to in vivo environments? 3.1 T CUAs for Electrochemical Detection of Cellularly Derived Biogenic Species in Organized 3D Microenvironments. The complex environments in which cells interact can have diverse cellular populations and be susceptible to changes that influence cellular survival, division, differentiation, death and virulence. Such dynamic responses are often mediated, at least in part, by changes in the concentration of biogenic signaling molecules. Hence, detection of these chemical species is key to understanding cellular communication. Using T CUAs as electrochemical sensors in tandem with Вµ3DP cell cultures, we will electrochemically detect two signaling molecules, NO and H2O2, directly from macrophages and S. gordonii cells, respectively. It is about twelve and a half centimeters long and consists of three parts; the nasopharynx, oropharynx and the laryngopharynx. (Anatomy.tv, n.d.) The esophagus branches off of the pharynx which carries food to the stomach. Swallowing takes place in the pharynx partly as a reflex and partly under voluntary control. The tongue and soft palate pushes food into the pharynx, which closes off the trachea. The food then enters the esophagus. The esophagus is a muscular tube extending from the pharynx to the stomach. . (Mohan, 2010). It is about 25 centimeters long. The production of mucus by glands in the mucosal lining as you can see lubricates the tube to permit easier passage of food moving toward the stomach. (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). Food is pushed through the esophagus and into the stomach by a series of contractions called peristalsis. The lower esophageal sphincter is just before the opening to the stomach. This was due to the absolute monarchies that had taken hold and the belief in a divine right that kept them there. This allowed the countries under the rule of powerful monarchs to thrive and prosper. Absolute monarchies and the belief in a divine right to rule made absolutism a period of prosperity in 16th and 17th century Europe. However, I agree that we should bring back flogging for only the misdemeanor cases and cutting down cost in prisons. Summary To Bring Back Flogging 2.In Bring Back Flogging, Jeff Jacoby states that there are too many people being incarcerated and instead the use of corporal punishment should come back. Mr. Jacoby states that with the use of corporal punishment, such as flogging or paddling, there would be a lot more space in prisons and less criminals overall. The author is afraid that without a good punishing system nobody would learn from their mistakes and they would just keep repeating them. Jeff... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. The Taiping Rebellion And The French Revolution Throughout history, rebellions and revolutions shaped societies and created better conditions for the people of those societies. The Taiping Rebellion and the French Revolution successfully shaped their societies by means of political and social reforms. They were both influenced to later achieve their unique successes because of a multitude of pushing factors, such as the existing social and political conditions of Chinaand France. Natural disasters, breaking away from tradition, and China s loss in the Opium War contributed to the ideology of the Taiping Rebellion; to restore China to its previous greatness and overthrowing the government. Likewise in France the conditions were not any better. Hunger and poverty were rampant in the cities of France. Bankruptcy and a corrupt government only made things worst. These conditions set the foundation for the ideology of the French Revolution; acquiring liberty, equality, and fraternity. Together, each of these societies found their successes in different ways. France created major changes in the government and legal system which were more immediate and apparent than in China, where they achieved successes that took longer to become apparent, and is viewed as more effective in a long term point of view. Previous political conditions played major roles, as it fueled the need for change within these communities. This rapid growth is not just related to soccer though, people s background and environmental influences have also played a large role. I wish to explore how these factors affect attitudes towards activities such as soccer. There are many things that go into affecting the way that Americans receive soccer. The idea that the game itself is a foreign game, that it wasn t created here by Americans, is something that some people use to put it into a negative light. That is a polarizing perspective, because for other people, they take a liking to the game because of the fact that it is something different, and that if they themselves are from a different part of the world, this is something that is more comfortable for them to take an interest in. It s almost as if the two of you have something in common, and even something as subtle as that is why many people pique their interest in the game. Some people who claim to be truly American are quick to judge things that are not deemed American under their own definitions of what makes something American. • 44. The Little Mermaid Analysis Fairy tales often resemble what culture was like during the time in which they were written. They tell us the story of women s struggle and survival throughout history, in societies with rules dictated by men. Whether it be surviving the torment of a wicked stepmother or the consequences of just being curious, one issue stays the same, the longing to escape the expectations that social norms impose is evident with just about any story. In this paper, I will compare the similarities and differences, and show a strong relationship between Hans Christian Anderson s, The Little Mermaid and the movie Boyz n the Hood, written and directed by John Singleton. The Little Mermaid, is a historical fairy tale written in the year 1836. During this time in history, women were expected to live a certain way. The ideal woman was submissive; her job was to be a meek, obedient, loving wife who was totally subservient to the men around her (Citation 1). This is clearly the case in this story in many instances from beginning to end. The little mermaid is expected to abide the rules of the sea. She is expected to follow the path of her sisters who are content with living under the sea and is to live in her own little plot in the garden just like everyone else, but she wasn t like the rest of her fellow mermaids. She had always had an infatuation with the surface, always longing for her 15th birthday when she would be able to rise to the surface and see the world of humans. Once she laid eyes on the human world and the handsome young prince, her desire to break free from the social norm consumed her every thought. Boyz in the Hood, is a racially charged look into the life of black males in the ghettos of California. It took place in a time where racism was alive and well, and drug laws like the 1 100 crack/powder disparity were being passed targeting black people disproportionally. Many cases of police brutality and even mobs attacking and murdering black men made the headlines in the 1980s. This movie, much like The Little Mermaid, is about the struggle of two males who are trying to break free from the social norms imposed by society. The protagonist in this movie, Tre, moves to South Central, Los Angeles to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The To kill a Mockingbird movie wasn t able to elaborate on certain characters that Harper Lee wrote about. Why did the movie extract what scenes they did? The book is revolved around the children Scout, Jem, and Dill to a certain extent. The movie focused on big name actor actor Gregory Peckwho played Atticus. In order to make more money, the movie conveyed Atticus as the focal point . Because of this, Scout had few lines. The beginning of the book starts out kind of slow and allows the reader to get accustomed to each character. The movie skips through most of that in order to hook the viewers in. For example, the movie shows Scout rolling in the tire without even telling the backstory of the Radley s and telling you who Boo is. The movie cut the scenes with the fire at Miss. Maudie s house, and the incident with Ms. Dubose and Jem. The movie didn t really mention Boo as much as I was expecting it to. These changes were most likely made because the director chose to have the movie revolve around the trial. Atticus says it is a sin to kill a mockingbirdat the diner table. The books says this after the children receive airsoft rifles. The children never receive airsoft rifles in the movie. Therefore, the director was forced to work this important line in another... • 46. Complementary and Alternative Medicine in New Zealand How do people from the general population decide to use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in New Zealand? Complementary and alternative medicine is a broad domain of healing resources and techniques that encompass all health systems, modalities, and practices and their accompanying theories and beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society or culture in a given historical period. CAM includes all such practices and ideas self defined by their users as preventing or treating illness or promoting well being (O Connor, Calabrese, Cardena, 1997). This definition is used by the New Zealand health system as advised by the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Complementary and Alternative Health (MACCAH) (2004). New Zealand is lacking CAM research with the results of the 2013 National Census not yet available. The last National Census figures on CAM were conducted between 2006 and 2007 and reveal little about the social and psychological dynamics that motivate clients to use CAM (Ministry of Health, 2008). How could I explore this process? My first choice is for grounded theory methodology based on the interpretive paradigm. Interpretive research focuses on how meanings are constructed and maintained by individuals and groups within different social and historical contexts. As Rubin and Rubin (2012) suggest, qualitative interviewers examine the complexity of the real world by exploring multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Department 19 Villains Essay English Through the study of the three texts; Department 19 by Will Hill, Macbeth the play and The Social Network by David Fincher, it is evident that literary villains are archetypes that often represent the evil side of human nature. One may argue that each villain has certain traits that allow the reader to be drawn to the terror and horror of their deeds yet also allow readers to reflect upon the society that has created such individuals. Authors stray their villains from the stereotype to keep the modern audience engaged. Often the physical appearance can define the villain, as it can be the most appealing and revealing area of any individual at first glance. In Department 19, Will Hill uses the characteristics of ... My name is Alexandru Rusmanov and you, of course, are Marie Carpenter by creating a polished superficial exterior it often allows for the deception to be hidden and creates dramatic irony as the audience knows Hill has portrayed him with duality traits. As demonstrated in these texts there are different ways that villains can be represented. In the post modern age often the role of villain is not as clear cut and the morality and ethical outcomes of the characters actions are represented as ambiguous. In a text such as The Social Network by David Fincher many relationships inverse and promises are broken. Finch almost leaves it for the audience to decide on the true villain. • 48. Purpose Of Government To adequately explain the purpose of government, we must first understand what government is. Humans learned early on the importance of needing an organized set of rules to govern over one another. Whether it was a dictatorship, a monarchy, or even a democracy, history has provided us with many examples of various structures dating back to some of the earliest known civilizations. The one thing they all held in common is that they embraced a system, also known as a social contract to create and enforce laws for those living within their lands. What most interesting is all the influences our founding fathers drew upon when creating the American governmental system. So that leads us to the next question of inevitability. Inevitable means something is certain to happen or unavoidable. It can be argued that our society could function without a government structure in place. We have seen main stream media and reality television attempt to demonstrate this in programs such as Utopia created by Fox. However, what happened and will always happen is the formation of a natural hierarchy. With those with necessary desirable skills put above others in a pecking order. In addition, the size of the group does not matter, whether its 10 or 10,000 people, someone will undoubtedly step forward. Preventing anarchy and chaos from prevailing. Now, not all ... • 50. Why The Foster System Is Ineffective Why the Foster System is Ineffective Is the foster system really a good place for any person? Most adolescents would have to deal with other adolescents always starting fights, degrading you, and stealing your belongings. Adolescents in the foster care system turn to crime, have to deal with depression, and deal with having no one to really trust. When I was in the system, I was stabbed, I was shot, and constantly bullied; I hated each day of being in the foster system. I saw everyday as a struggle with no one to turn to. The only peace I had was to read a book and immerse myself into a make believe world. I believe the foster system is ineffective because children in the foster system struggle through their experiences of group homes and foster homes. First of all, children in the foster system have no one to turn to that they can truly trust. Most children in the foster system do not trust many people because of the fact that many see that their own parents ended leaving them. Some adolescents in the foster system saw therapists and social workers as just being paid to listen to them and not actually help them with their problems. When I was eight, I moved into a foster home and the foster parents had their own biological son that was treated like a little angel, yet I got treated as someone that was unwanted in their home. A way to test one s willpower and the willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into what Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on the effect marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to waiting to have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change profoundly. The key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because after all, self control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel was a psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self regulation (Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the mind, and its effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and identity, and social cognition(Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an advantage when creating an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable with what is being studied and the results that come in. With the background of looking at goal setting and motivation that he has, it gives this experiment more credibility as a whole.
