This document discusses alveolar hydatid disease, which is caused by the larval stage of the Echinococcus multilocularis tapeworm. It infects the liver and lungs primarily, causing cysts to develop. Clinical manifestations can include cough, chest pain, fever and dyspnea from intact cysts or expectoration, hemoptysis and anaphylactic shock from ruptured cysts. Diagnosis is difficult and it can be mistaken for lung cancer. Imaging findings on CT and MRI can help identify the cysts and complications like bronchobiliary fistulas.
