Flowers have male stamens that produce pollen and female carpels or pistils that produce ovules. Pollination occurs when pollen travels between flowers, which can happen through animals or wind. Fertilization then takes place as a pollen grain joins with an ovule. The seed grows in the carpel and becomes a small fruit, getting larger until the petals fall and the fruit ripens and opens, releasing seeds that germinate to grow new plants.
