In 2013, GolinHarris celebrated its fifth annual Al's Day, a global community service initiative honoring founder Al Golin, with various volunteer activities across their offices worldwide. Teams engaged in a range of projects, including serving meals to the homeless in Atlanta, supporting children affected by cancer in Bucharest, and preparing schools for the new year in Chicago. The initiative aimed to give back and foster community connections, with each office contributing to local charitable organizations and activities.

This year, GolinHarris celebrated its fifth annual
worldwide community service initiative, Al’s Day. The
day honors founder and chairman Al Golin’s dedication
to community service and is held each year on, or
around, Al’s birthday on June 19.
Offices around the world celebrated Al’s Day by
participating in activities ranging from volunteering at
Café 458 in Atlanta to feed the homeless; to working
with Little People, an international NGO providing care
for children and young people affected by cancer in
Bucharest; to painting murals and helping the Ashburn
Community Elementary School in Chicago prepare
for the new school year; to spending the day with
the kids at Manzil Special Needs School in Dubai;
to volunteering with client Ronald McDonald House
Charities in Shanghai.
We’re happy to share, in the following pages, all of
the ways in which we gave back on Al’s Day to help
communities around the world look forward to a
brighter day and a better year.

Atlanta
The Atlanta office volunteered at Café 458, a
restaurant for the homeless and for those striving
to make positive changes in their lives. During
their hours at the Café, the team helped to prepare
and serve food while getting to know the patrons.

bucharest
In Bucharest, the team worked with “Little People,”
an international NGO providing care for children
and young people affected by cancer. They visited
Fundeni Hospital along with three professional actors
to entertain the young patients with books, games and
toys. After spending a day with the children, several
creators and connectors worked together to write and
share the Little People’s story to raise awareness and
generate donations for the organization.

The Chicago staff celebrated Al’s Day by helping the Ashburn Community
Elementary School prepare for the return of its students and staff in the
new school year. Teams created four reading nooks in the school’s primary
department, filled with donated books. They also designed and painted colorful
murals and helped with various cleaning and organizing projects throughout the
entire school.

During a full-day
volunteer opportunity,
the Dallas team helped
the West Long-Term
Recovery community
rebuild by sorting and
organizing donations
that have flooded their
community since a tragic
plant explosion. The
town of West is still in
need of many supplies,
so for those who couldn’t
attend, the team held a
separate donation drive.

The Dubai team spent Al’s day with the children
at the Manzil Special Needs School in Sharjah, a
private non-profit school, that caters to approximately
38 students. They painted the school’s garden
walls in the g4 colors and spent time playing with
the children.

Through a visit to Ho Chak Neighbourhood Centre,
a care center for the elderly, the Hong Kong office
played games and gave attendees an opportunity to
share their stories. At the end of their visit, the GH
team presented their hosts with a gift containing
goodies such as canola oil, pasta and kiwi fruits.

Our London office spent their Al’s Day at Spitalfields
City Farm, an organization that concentrates on
growing local affordable food for their community.
The team helped with tasks such as painting,
planting and cleaning stables, and learned new
skills around farming and growing.

Los ANgeles
The Los Angeles team helped to keep the L.A.
River clean and beautiful with Friends of L.A. River
Cleanup. The non-profit organization protects and
restores the Los Angeles River and its habitat with
organized volunteer work and educational programs.

MIAMI
The Miami team volunteered with the Friends of the
Miami-Dade Public Library. At the main branch, they
prepared donated books for sorting, delivery and
lending to its many locations.

orange
county
The Orange County team volunteered at Share
Ourselves, a nonprofit organization that provides
food and basic necessities to low-income families.
They stocked shelves and worked the food line while
engaging with the patrons.

shanghai
The Shanghai office visited the Social Organization
Service Center. The team helped children from
migrant families learn how to cook and prepare
nutritious snacks for themselves.

15. 13
singapore
The Singapore office organized a tea party to
raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities
benefitting children at the National University
Hospital. The team sang with the children and
created animal masks and balloon art.

16. 14
sweden
This year, the Stockholm team spent time with
young adults at the Fryshyset Center, the largest
youth center in the world. The day was filled
with games, sweets and laughter.

Washington, D.C.
The D.C. office worked with YearUp, a non-profit
that provides young adults with the skills,
experience and support they need in order to
reach their potential through professional careers
and higher education. Our team conducted mock
interviews and coached program graduates for
meetings with potential employers.
