The 15th April was a big
day for us. After designing
our own desk, receiving
generous donations on
Global Giving to fund
them and selecting
schools in our area,
DAKTARI and Tutudesk
campaign delivered over
800 portable desks to the
Oaks village Primary

Staff Party
A wonderfully crazy night where the
volunteers dressed up in uniforms and took
over the kitchen.
Each member of staff was recognised for
their hard work and for their individual
qualities (best dancer, singer, humor…)
All the pictures are on our Facebook Page.
Easter Virtual Gifts
We had a wonderful April which included Easter
Day. Thanks to all who contributed to our
Sponsor a Child and Donate to an Animal

News from camp…
Happy Earth-Day!
On April 22nd, for Earth-Day, children
wrote letters for other children all over
the world, explaining why it’s important to
protect the environment and how YOU can
make a difference.
Release of a Pangolin
One morning, we received a call to alert us that
a Pangolin was trapped in an electric fence. We
rescued him as quick as possible and after 2 days
in the vet we released him in the wild.
5
News from camp…
It was such an amazing
experience to have met this
rare and beautiful
creature.
We wish you all the best Mr
Pangolin, and be careful of
the fences next time!
Build4DAKTARI Campaign!
Our camp is getting bigger, with an office extension, 2 ablution blocks and 3
platforms to install tents on. Thank you so much for the help we already received
through Global Giving, our official partner BUCO and the Hoedspruit Community.
Thanks to your generous donations, we have purchased our first batch of bricks for
the office building. But we still need your help for all the missing materials!

News from camp…
Animal news!
Mongoose Rehabilitation
For 4 years, we raised baby banded mongooses. The cohabitation
was not easy between all of them, we had to separate them into
3 small groups.
But changes have occurred in the last 3 months. We have finally
moved the mongooses, mixed them together and finally they are
living well together. It is really good news to have 10 mongooses,
it means that we can now plan their release into the wild.

Animal arrival…
In May, we’ve had the chance to
welcome new babies. First King
Kong & Leia have had 2 infants,
unfortunately one of them
passed away 2 months later.
Then Yster also became a
mother, with 2 adorable babies.

Children News
During the months of April,
May and June, DAKTARI
received 90 children, to
teach them about the
environment, conservation,
politeness and job
opportunities.
We couldn’t do it without
YOU and all our wonderful
international volunteers, who
come to give lessons and take
care of animals.
A big THANK YOU!

Game Drive at TSHUKUDU
As a reward for the best child
of each week, they
experienced a game drive at
TSHUKUDU Game Lodge. It is
a chance for them to
discover all the beautiful
animals, landscape and
environment all around
them. The children were so
happy and lucky to see lions,
zebras, cheetah…
Thank you TSHUKUDU to have
offered this chance to the
children!
ECO-CLUB
Once a week, between 20 and 40 children
from Ramatau and Maahlamele schools
attend the lessons we host. Our volunteers
also come and participate in the classes,
sharing their experience about working
with animals for example.

24H HOME STAY
Since February, Maakosha has kindly welcomed 20
internationals volunteers from DAKTARI to her house.
During their stay, the volunteers learn
how to cook pap, help to sell fish at the
local market, meet the community
members and wear traditional African
clothing. For them as well as Maakosha,
it is the ultimate cultural exchange and
a great human experience.
We are going to select 2 new families in
the Oaks village to develop this project,
providing extra-income for the locals
and lots of joy for our volunteers.
Please click here for more details.
Solar Cooker
Like we mentioned in the previous newsletter, we have an
environmental project which involves solar cooking. So
far, we cooked rice with 3 local women and we’ll continue
to practice the cooking of vegetables and pap, to help sell
the solar cooker in the market place. To be continued…
