THE NET (con)
 Targeted population is engaged equitably.
 Members may b sent a letter, invitation
etc.
 Homogeneous Target Audience
 approached with a single undifferentiated
pitch.
 Demographic-psychographic similarities
among members of the target audience.

 In a MOSQUE with a Radical imam
 Ideal Location:
Northwest Pakistan.
2) The Funnel
The Funnel (con)
 A recruiter may use an incremental or
phased, approach.
 Target requires a significant
transformation in identity and motivation.
 Setting milestones such as hazing rituals
and group identity-building exercises.

 Demonstrate of recruiters knowledge of
radical Islam.
 Violence

 Some dysfunctionality in family system (i.e.,
family and kin community exert ‘‘weak gravity’’)
 Some dependent personality tendencies (e.g.,
suggestibility, low tolerance for ambiguity)

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeJ) blamed for the
November 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed
166 people.
