The Akshaya project, first started in the rural Malappuram district of Kerala, India 2002-03, and now spread all around the state, was the first district-wide e-literacy project in India and one of the largest known Internet Protocol (IP) based wireless networks in the world.

 Akshaya was conceived as a landmark ICT project by the Kerala State
Information Technology Mission(KSITM) to bridge the digital divide and
to bring the benefits of ICT to the entire population of the State.
 The project opens up immense opportunities for women participation at
various levels as entrepreneurs, master trainers, social animators and
finally as trainees etc.

3. Akshaya project's deliverables include:
o Creating & expanding economic opportunities
o Awareness about e-learning, e-transaction, e – governance
o Rural Empowerment of individuals and communities through
enhanced access to information
o Integrating communities through creation of e-networks
o Creating awareness of ICT tools and usage
o Generating e-content useful to the common man in local language
o Generation of service delivery points even in the remotest areas

4.  India's first step in taking ICT to the masses has been rolled-out
in Kerala, named as Akshaya the state's first district-wide e-
literacy project, one of the largest known Internet Protocol (IP)
based wireless networks in the world
