This document discusses the components and basic mechanism of an airbag inflation system. It describes how an airbag consists of a flexible envelope that inflates rapidly during a collision to prevent occupants from hitting hard interior objects. The key components that enable this are an accelerometer sensor, airbag control unit, nylon fabric, and inflation device. Upon impact, the sensor triggers the control unit to release gas from the inflation device, causing the nylon bag in the steering wheel or above the glove compartment to inflate within 0.05 seconds and cushion the occupant from impact.

2. Definition
 An airbag is a vehicle safety device. It is
consisting of a flexible envelope
designed to inflate rapidly in an
automobile collision, to prevent vehicle
occupants from striking hard interior
objects such as steering wheels.

3. Why Airbag is needed?
 To avoid serious injuries to the
occupants due to vehicle collision.

 Inflation Device.

5. Basic Mechanism
 A thin nylon bag in the steering
wheel / above glove compartment
inflates in the event of an impact
and prevents the driver/passenger
from hitting the steering
wheel/dashboard.

7. Sensor
 ADXL50 ( Analog Devices).
 It contains a polysilicon surface-
micro machined sensor and signal
conditioning circuitry.

9. Airbags are also designed to protect occupants'
heads, side impact, and in the back seat.

10.  Time taken to complete hole
inflation process is 0.05 sec.
