Mobile Marketing 101 for Small Business - May 2014. Presentation by Dolphin Browser (http://dolphin.com/) at San Francisco Small Business Week (http://www.sfsmallbusinessweek.com/).
Smartphones have evolved greatly since their introduction in 1993. They now offer full computing and internet capabilities comparable to laptops. While smartphones provide advantages like constant connectivity and access to educational tools, they can also enable anti-social behaviors if overused and pose security risks. Research shows smartphones are widely used in South African businesses but can blur work-life boundaries if not managed properly. Overall, smartphones permeate many aspects of modern life and can have either positive or negative impacts depending on how they are used.

Top Seven Risks of Enterprise Mobility - How to protect your businessSymantec
Learn about the top risks associated with mobile devices in the enterprise environment and the steps you can take to mitigate these risks and protect your business
Mobile provides unique benefits for recruiting including being a permanently connected device that is always carried and enables location-based services and augmented reality. It has replaced the traditional web very quickly and grown over 2000% in two years. Companies must improve their services through mobile to attract more users and candidates, as candidates now expect mobile search, application status updates, location-based services, and easy application on their mobile devices. Mobile access can no longer be ignored by any industry or business that wants to remain competitive.
Mobile technology allows users to access information and communicate from anywhere through portable electronic devices. Common forms of mobile technology include smartphones, laptops, netbooks and iPads. While mobile technology provides benefits like improved communication and opportunities for education, it also poses perils such as users being constantly available and the potential for a lack of work-life balance. Both businesses and individuals must establish policies to manage interruptions and distractions from mobile devices in order to maximize productivity and minimize security risks.

Burson-Marsteller and Proof Integrated Communications report: The State of Mo...rsimiele
Mobile communications are fundamentally changing how businesses interact with consumers. Mobile phone use, especially smartphones, is growing exponentially faster than previous technologies. While U.S. businesses have been slow to capitalize on mobile opportunities, possibilities for interacting with customers via mobile go beyond just content delivery and transactions to more innovative approaches like location-based targeting and QR codes. The first step for businesses is optimizing digital content for mobile, but ultimately mobile is about transforming real-time, location-based interactions.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
