LORI MALONEY My project has been focusing on one human service agency which has
impacted the lives of many homeless youths. This organization is Covenant House, whose
main headquarters are in New York (Covenant House, n.d.). My ambition of wanting to
know more about the organization helped me secure an interview with Lori Maloney, the
Senior Vice President at Covenant House. Maloney is an expert in advocacy and program
development which has enabled her to earn a strong position in the organization. To
achieve this, I used the organization’s contact, (954) 5615559, 800-388-3888, and
info@covenanthouse.org, which got me connected to Ms. Maloney. Through intense follow-
up, I secured an interview scheduled on the 2nd of October 2019 at 10.00 am. The semi-
structured interview questions which I prepared using the SurveyMonkey Design guide will
provide insightful information concerning the organization’s mission, program, and
evaluation measures. Interview with Ms. Maloney Fatumata: I am honored to meet you in
person, and I believe that we will share a lot concerning Covenant House and the programs
it offers. By starting with basic information, kindly introduce yourself and the role you play
at the organization. Ms. Maloney: Thank you Fatumata, I am glad that I can be of service in
your school’s project in the quest of wanting to know more about Covenant House.
Fatumata: The agency is well known globally. Do you enjoy offering your services here? Ms.
Maloney: Yes, I do. My service in this organization has helped me see significant
transformations, and this ignites my joy when I see that former homeless youths are doing
well in life. 2 AN INTERVIEW WITH LORI MALONEY Fatumata: What is the mission of
Covenant House? Ms. Maloney: The organization’s mission is to provide supportive services
to homeless youths and showing them unconditional love and safeguarding their safety.
Fatumata: Concerning the leadership at Covenant House, does the agency consider the
employees and volunteers’ feedback? How? Ms. Maloney: Extremely well. Leadership at this
organization encourages stakeholders’ participation in interactive forums. Every employee
and even volunteers are allowed to air their views which are considered in areas like
program planning. Fatumata: A program that has been helpful in educating homeless youths
is the transitional living program. What challenges have you faced so far (if any) when
implementing it? Ms. Maloney: Among the challenges, gaining trust when trying to build a
2. relationship with the youth has been quite a task. Also, encouraging the youths to see their
self-worth takes a lot of effort and time. Fatumata: With this program, what age group does
the agency consider for its targeted population? Ms. Maloney: The organization targets
young adults ranging between 18 to 24 years since this prepares them to become
independent and responsible people after exiting the program. Fatumata: What makes this
program unique when compared with other agencies? 3 AN INTERVIEW WITH LORI
MALONEY Ms. Maloney: I believe that our program is authentic since it focuses on
enhancing strengths and the dreams of the homeless. Fatumata: What outcomes does the
agency plan to achieve in its mission of assisting the homeless? Ms. Maloney: Positive
outcomes such as helping the homeless to secure jobs, permanent housing, and quality
education would promote the agency’s mission. Fatumata: How well does the organization
recognize the accomplishments met after the successful implementation of the program?
Ms. Maloney: Very well. Fatumata: Kindly tell me more about the approaches you use to
analyze the success of the program’s outcomes. Ms. Maloney: When I see the youths are
responding well through measures like increased attendance, enhanced responsibility, and
a high percentage of job acquisition, these illustrate the success of the program. Fatumata:
What is your overall opinion concerning your working experience at the organization? Ms.
Maloney: My working experience is motivated when I see youths succeeding in every step of
their life. 4 AN INTERVIEW WITH LORI MALONEY Reference Covenant House (n.d.). About
