4. Critical Thinking Analysis
In our classroom text, the authors Chaffee, McMahon, and Stout highlight four key factors that
we as writers and readers should include in our thoughts. "1. Thinking actively, 2. Thinking
independently, 3. Viewing a situation from different perspectives, 4. Supporting diverse
perspectives with evidence and reasons" (2008). In my early stages of maturity, I was trained to
view our groups and our personal beliefs as being the best choice compared to the other possible
options on the subject matter in question. We did this without even looking at what the other group
was suggesting. The question I should have asked myself was how do I know that our belief is the
best choice to follow? If the subject is a small matter like which candy bar is the best to eat. In that

In most cases as a young person, you just believed that what they told you was true. As we
matured, we started thinking about situations using our own thoughts in work and in personal
life. We still listen and follow instructions when a superior in the workplace explains a situation to
you, in most cases you will probably not question the statement. However, some of us (myself
included) like to express our personal experience in the situation and look to make changes or
possibly even agree with the path that was chosen on the subject. From our assignment, the
question asked which one of the following I would rely on the most to support my opinion, people
of authority, recorded references, observed evidence, or personal experience. Because I can only
chose, one I would select recorded references, only because the information is from experiences. To
add on to the subject, a keyword makes the difference in how a person would select the information
to use. That word is experience, without experience, no one knows what will be the result of the

5. LMU Mission Statement
There seems to be an endless number of reasons why I wish to attend LMU. Whether it be the
eleven to one instructor to student ratio, its exceptionally bright students, or its beautiful campus;
LMU is an institution with an abundance of extraordinary qualities and opportunities. More
specifically, I was drawn to LMU because of its mission. The three points of LMU's mission
statement resonate immensely with me. "The encouragement of learning, the education of the whole
person, and the service of faith and the promotion of justice" are responsibilities that I truly
appreciate. I admire that LMU seeks to encourage learning and educate individuals as a whole. Real
world experience and knowledge cannot be taught in the classroom and LMU strives...show more

Along with the mission statement of LMU, The School of Film and Television makes LMU highly
attractive. It is ranked among the top film schools in the nation every year and classes are taught by
awardâwinning faculty. I am choosing LMU for its Production (Film and Television) major. As
long as I can remember, I have been a filmmaker. I was unusually shy as a child and film became
my way to communicate. Writing and filming gave me the confidence I needed to break out of
my shell and run after life instead of away from it. Because film has been such an integral part of
my life and has blessed me greatly, choosing any profession other than filmmaking would be to
give up who I am. Out of my shyness and anxiety as a child, I found a way to communicate with
the world; I found a new love, I found my passion, I found film. With this, I believe that The
School of Film and Television contains all of the resources that I am looking for. When students
who have a deep passion for filmmaking and telling stories come together, unbelievable
breakthroughs happen. I hope to be part of this. As an aspiring filmmaker, knowing that at LMU I
will learn about all aspects of film excites

6. Effects Of Socialization
Socialization is defined as the "process by which individuals acquire thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors "appropriate" to their positions in society," (Rohall 149). Individuals experience
socialization beginning the day they are born, and throughout most of their lives. It can occur
through everyday observation and interaction at every stage of development, or it can occur more
formally though education and mentors. Socialization is important to how individuals interact in
society and it also plays a part in most aspects of social psychology. An important aspect of
socialization is our agents of socialization. Agents of socialization are the groups in the individuals'
lives that are most influential in teaching the thoughts, feelings, and...show more content...
In a study titled "Racial Socialization and Racial Identity: African American Parents' Messages about
Race as Precursors to Identity," Enrique Neblett looked at the patterns of racial socialization in a
sample of 358 African American adolescents and identified 3 patterns of socialization experiences,
High Positive, Moderate Positive, and Low Frequency (Neblett 189). The study found that a large
portion of children reported that their parents highly emphasized on racial pride as well as taught
them about racial barriers. The remaining children provided information that not all parents convey
messages about race to their children. This shows that some individuals agents of socialization
play a large role in their understanding of their race. In the study, they also state that African
Americans awareness of race makes it possible for them to grapple with the significance of being
African American (Neblett 189). The children that were categorized as having High Positive or
Moderate Positive experiences with socialization are going to be more apt to understand their
socialized position in society. This is important because "a strong ethnic identity is associated with
greater psychological wellâbeing," (Rohall 153). Therefore, children, especially children from
minority groups, who are socialized to have a strong identity and can understand the significance of
being a specific race, are more

8. Synthesis Essay Prompt
Chase Wagers, Synthesis Essay Prompt #1 "I refused to let schooling get in the way of my
education," was famously said by author Mark Twain. Schools are intended to foster personal
growth and ignite a lifelong passion for learning, yet sadly schools have evolved in a way that
promotes conformity at the expense of authentic education. Rather than continuing this broken
system, it is time for a change. Individuality has, for far too long, been pushed to the wayside in our
schools; it is time to allow students and families to make decisions in choosing classes and
scheduling so future goals and aspirations can be met.
Mandatory classes and coursework are two of the most unjust tools used to "promote" conformity in
our schools. I know from firsthand
