November update for Dominican Starfish FoundationLouise ZoBell
Dominican Starfish Foundation focuses on 5 different areas of help for the Dominican Republic. Shelter, Food and Clothing, Health and Wellness, Education and Employment.
Kendal A. Daiger is the director of marketing for Spruce Peak Realty in Stowe, Vermont and President of a boutique marketing firm, OneL Marketing. Prior to that, she was leading the sales and marketing at Black Butte Ranch in Sisters, Oregon, where she also served on the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce County Cooperative Marketing Committee, designed to provide insight into marketing opportunities to boost awareness for Sisters County.
Sisters Chamber of Commerce aims to promote various attractions that Sisters County has to offer to its visitors. Sisters County is a magical destination with the town of Sisters lying at the foothills of the Cascade mountain range. The small town is famous for its numerous festivals and exciting activities throughout the year. The annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is the world’s largest quilt show held every second Saturday of July each year. The 2020 edition will take place on 11th July 2020 at Downtown Sisters.
The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is a non-profit organization whose aim is to educate and inspire the public about the art of quilting to benefit schools, community groups, and entire Central Oregon. The show started after the founder, Jean Wells Keenan displayed a dozen quilts made by her students outside her quilt shop on a Saturday in July. Later, more ladies bought their quilts to the show and it eventually becomes an annual event hosted by the East of the Cascades quilt guild.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Your Neighbor
We are proud to feature Habitat homeowner Diane Marshall for our
Fall 2016 newsletter. Diane was happy to share her own experience
saying “I've always wanted to become a homeowner and in 1995, I
decided to contact Habitat hoping I could get into a home. I had a
good experience. I bought a home that was already built so I did my
sweat equity, learning landscaping and painting mostly. Back then,
they did not offer classes to learn about budgeting or anything like
that. A majority of the volunteers on my home were teenagers and
they got the job done!"
Making regular payments, Diane will pay off her home in 2017. She
says, "When I started, I wondered if I would ever be done with my
payments. I would be in my mid-sixties when I finally paid off my
house and it seemed so far away. But I just put it out of my mind,
made my payments (because you have to pay to live anywhere, it
might as well be on your own house!) and started seeing a light at the
end of the tunnel. Now, my dream of owning a home that's fully mine
is almost true. Anyone even considering applying just needs to go for
it! It's the easiest way to get into a home without a huge down pay-
ment and huge payments. The home will be yours eventually! I was
able to make my home my own and I am proud of it. You give and
you will always get back. Take the leap of faith. I am happy and
proud to own my home and to have a place to lay my head at night."

Volunteers comprise more than 95% of the
labor on our homes, which is why groups like
the Atmos Energy Call Center are so
imperative to our success. Not only has the
Atmos Energy Call Center donated a sum of
money they worked to raise throughout the
year, but also gave an entire week of their
time to build Habitat’s 106th
home. "Habitat
for Humanity was selected because we have
done a day build before and our employees
completely enjoyed the day build," said
Shauna Moore, Atmos Customer Operations
Supervisor. "When we went out there, it was
not only the family we were [building] the
home for but also the other families aided by
Habitat for Humanity," said Moore. "They are
a little community; they help each other with
everything. So, we got to meet several
families and it was really inspirational to hear
their stories." Thank you to yet another
inspiring volunteer group—Atmos Energy
Call Center!

Marble
Depot!
Marble Depot, Inc. has been a longstanding partner of Amarillo Habitat for Humanity. In the spring of 2008,
Marble Depot volunteered for the first time at an Amarillo Habitat for Humanity job site. After seeing the
fiberglass inserts and laminate countertops, Owner Paul Davis saw the opportunity to make an impact. Every
Habitat home today, since that build in 2008, has marble and granite throughout the home. Marble Depot
knew they had the ability to add quality and value to the home so they did, at no additional cost to Habitat or
the first time homeowners. The company also started contributing monetary gifts to general operating as well
as serving as presenting sponsors for almost all of Habitat’s special events throughout the years. To say that
Marble Depot has been an integral proponent of Habitat’s work is an understatement; they have been a
driving force toward achieving our mission.
On November 17, Marble Depot, Inc. will be honored at the 2016 Association of Fundraising Professionals
(AFP) National Philanthropy Day Luncheon. They have been named the 2016 Outstanding Small Business/
Corporation for philanthropy. Again, congratulations to our cherished partners—Marble Depot, Inc.!

The Win family—Khin, Christ, and their family received the keys to
their first, self-owned home on Saturday, October 8th. The family
completed more than 1,000 volunteer hours by working on other
families’ homes, working at the Amarillo Habitat for Humanity
ReStore and/or helping with other projects at the nonprofit.
A refugee camp in Thailand was the home for the family when they
decided that there had to be a better way to live. They describe living
in Thailand as "a prison" where they had no freedom, little food and
were unable to work. They knew that America could not only provide
the freedom they so desperately wanted, but also the opportunity to
work and raise a family outside of an oppressive environment.
The Win family’s days are much different now. They are so thankful
to be employed, to have their children enrolled in school, and to
enjoy plenty of food. Amarillo Habitat for Humanity is provided the
first chance to own a home of their own; for that, they say “thank
you!” The Win family is proud owners of a 1,600 sq. ft. home with 5
bedrooms and two bathrooms located across from Glenwood Park.
This home will be shared with Khin and his wife, their 3 children, 1
grandchild, and their parents.
“This will be a 4-generational home—a legacy and place of stability
for this family that has worked so hard to make their dreams a
reality,” says Amarillo Habitat Family Services Director Sarah Curtis.
Welcome Home
Win Family!
