“My Name is Shawn Vandiver, Habitat Homeowner for over 2
years now. Before receiving our Habitat home, we were
living in a small, one bedroom apartment. My son
Christopher slept on the couch in the living room. I always
dreamed of being a homeowner, but because of past
mistakes and taking the wrong road, I thought that dream
would never be a reality. Working with Habitat on my sweat
equity hours was an amazing experience. It taught me so
much, including selflessness, patience, and gratitude. The
relationships that I made and the people I was able to work
hand and hand with were probably my biggest blessing.
Being able to be a part in building so many families’ dreams
was indescribable. I am a single dad —full time dad and full
time employee. All I want is the best for my son and today,
because of Habitat for Humanity, he has the best room a 13
year old could have, a stable roof over his head, and a
beautiful home to come home to every night. Thank you
Habitat for Humanity for being a vessel of God in answering
one of my prayers! I will be forever grateful!”

Volunteers are the heart of our
organization. They share their time and
talents without any compensation and
continue to give by coming back to build
again and again. They are critical to the
success of our organization as they
comprise more than 95% of the man
power on a build! One such group is a
student organization from West Texas
A&M University--Wine to Water. This
group has been volunteering with
Habitat on a consistent basis since its
inception two years ago. Wine to Water
representative Zack McCasland stated
that "whether it's building homes next
door or drilling water wells across the
world, we rise by lifting others up. Wine
to Water is an organization fully focused
on giving life to people around the
world." Thank you Wine to Water for
your commitment to affordable housing
in our community!

Our 105th home is presented by the Texas Panhandle Builders
Association. Their mission is to "build relationships through
outreach, education and networking to advance the building
industry in the Texas panhandle."
Chartered in 1946 to represent 26 counties in Texas, the Texas
Panhandle Builder Association (TPBA) is the second oldest
association in the state of Texas. The TPBA is a professional, non-
profit organization of home builders, developers, remodelers, and
businesses associated with the building industry. The home will be
featured in the TPBA’s 2016 Parade of Homes event in an effort to
highlight their work in the community and to allow Habitat the
opportunity to showcase their mission to the public.
Through the generous support of the TPBA, the home will belong to
the family of Ba Than and A Pyong. The Than family is originally
from Burma, but due to war, fled to a refugee camp in Thailand.
After living in a makeshift shack of bamboo and having to ration
meals, the family looked to the United States for a new beginning in
2010.
The family of six now has exciting times ahead as they will receive
the keys to their home in June 2016. They look forward to planting
a garden in a backyard of their own. Beyond their new home, the
Than family is grateful to Habitat for teaching them many skills such
as building, painting, how to save money, and how to build credit.
The 1,600 square feet, 5 bedroom and 2 bath home is located
across from Glenwood Park and built to the highest energy
standards.
