• Exchange is the act of giving out goods or
services of equal value in return for another.
• Stock exchange is therefore an act whereby

21. PEOPLE INVOLVED IN STOCK EXCHANGE

• Business at the stock exchange involves selling
parts or all of an enterprise/corporation to many
part owners in order to raise money to finance
that enterprise.
• STOCK is the money raised by corporation or
organization through the sale and distribution of
parts or all of the enterprise to several part
owners.
• One unit of stock is called SHARE.
• SHAREHOLDER/STOCKHOLDER is a person or
organisation that holds some shares of stocks.

• Vote during the election of the Board of
Directors.

potential buyers or potential sellers bidding or
offering specific prices respectively.

1. Raising capital for agricultural business:
Agricultural enterprises can raise money
through offering shares for sale to the general

2. Redistribution of wealth: Investors share in the
profits and wealth of these businesses through
their increased stock prices and dividends

• Export promotion: This is the process of
encouraging the sales of Nigerian produce in
other countries. It was for the purpose of
promoting exportation of produce made in
Nigeria in other countries that the Nigerian
Export Promotion Council was established in
1976 (and formally inaugurated in March,
1977) to encourage the sales of Nigerian
produce outside the country.
• Export is the process of transferring commodity
from one country to another for the purpose of
