Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles
While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at
Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles
may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the
individuals. Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that
genderroles and gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However,
what is most interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner
by which certain aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even
reversed. Based on these observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the
ways in which the social construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was
stated in the introduction, some of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the
ways in which socially constructed gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the
interaction between two small children, a girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located
in the center of the park. The young boy can be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors
that include but are not limited to pushing and shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast,
the young girl behaves in a much more submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by
giggling, smiling and squealing. This example provides

Examples Of Teaching-Learning Based Optimization
CHAPTER 3
TEACHERING LEARNING BASED OPTIMIZATION (TLBO)
3.1 Teaching Learning Based Optimization: An overview
Teaching learning based optimization (TLBO) is a newly introduced by R.V. Rao in NIT surat. It is
an evolutionary optimization algorithm that inspired from teaching learning phenomenon of a
classroom. It is a novel population based algorithm with faster convergence speed without any
algorithm specific parameters. In TLBO each potential problem is treated as a learner with certain
knowledge. The TLBO consist of two phases Teacher phase and Learner phase, in both phases
learner improves their knowledge from teacher (in teacher phase) and also from classmates (in
learner phase).
In section 3.2 Teacher learning based optimization is described, Section 3.3 discusses the Teacher
learning based optimization, Section 3.4 describes the flow of Teacher learning based optimization
with the help of Flow Chart and finally section 3.5 concluded the chapter.

Inspired by the teaching learning process in the classroom. It is a population based evolutionary
computer algorithm that modeled on transferring knowledge in the classroom and use student
result to proceed on global solution. TLBO does not need any specific parameters; it only requires
common controlling parameters like population size and number of generations, so it is called
parameter less optimization algorithm. TLBO is divided into two phases: Teacher Phase and
Learner Phase . In Teacher phase learners gain knowledge from teacher and then Learner also gain
knowledge from their classmates by mutual interaction, group discussion etc. in Learning

How Does African Feather Grass Affect Our Environment
Introduction
African Feather grass (Pennisetum Macrourum / Cenchrus Macrourus) is common in the western
Bay of Plenty, near Opotiki and Ohiwai. African Feather grass is an invasive foreign invader. It is
highly fertile and a very invasive pest. It isn t common in the central plateau of the North Island, but
it still can still be spotted. It invades native farmland which changes most habitats and spreads
easily. This report will look at the questions that identifies this pest s information that could help
mitigate the effects of African Feather grass to stop their damage to our environment.
Solution
The most effective and recommended way to counter African Feather grass is with Haloxyfop 100,
a herbicide used to target most grass weeds including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plant is then eaten by herbivores and omnivores such as hedgehogs, rabbits and sometimes
mice, which in turn, are then eaten by native Moreporks and feral cats and dogs. Then it finishes
off with humans. There are also some extra animals that are on the following diagram.
Question 2: What negative and positive effects do this pest have on our environment?
As a fast seed producer, it ruins native animal s habitats and also invades plant communities;
therefore, the plant species have a negative impact on the environment. Also has the cause of
building up sand and changes the habitats, and eventually grows on rocks. Because of African
Feather grass, there has been a loss dune lakes, wetlands and has a major impact on agriculture.
On the plus side, it is also a fire hazard to rats and mice, which I think is also another way to get
rid of rats and mice. Overall, this pest mostly has a negative impact on the environment.
Question 3: What can I do to get rid of this plant?
Don t attempt to control it when a mature seed is present as this makes the bigger chance of the
risk of the seeds being spread by clothing, animals and so

What to Do After Graduation in Major in Success by Patrick...
There is a majority of university students worldwide who have something in common: they have
no idea what they will do after they graduate. Some students may have several ideas came out,
but they never make them come true. There are plenty of people who have difficulty to know
what they are passionate in, and even they can do but most never have the extraordinary drive
necessary to go for their dreams. At this difficult time, there is a book walked to me, Major in
Success written by Patrick Combs, which is a book that is to help people find their true dream
job and become successful, and also it helped me find the true purpose of studying in university.
This book pointed out that doing what you enjoy propels you to success . It means doing what
you enjoy is the core to find your dream job. If one has a job that pays well but he never get
happiness from it, and instead of fears, tears and no cheers. He also brings their fears from work
to their lives and families and makes these people who are outside of his job feel sad and then,
that will destroy a big and happy environment. This book tells people how to make their dreams
come true. People who follow their dreams are the meaning of living in the world and the way to
get happiness. And everyone has this ability to achieve this goal; what they need to do is only to
possess extraordinary drive. From the book, the author says repeatedly that when people get
graduated, no one cares about your GPA. Patrick Combs said that

Examples Of Leadership Style At Apple
The leadership style at Apple is basically revolves around Tim cook whose managerial style is
democratic as compared to Jobs who had autocratic leadership style. This change in leadership
style at the time of change leads to play strength and focus on advancing cooperation among talent
pool of Apple. Tim s leadershipstyle has motivated individuals to develop conditions where
employees prominently feel motivated to work hard. Thus, this is the only reason when workforce

It is noted that Apple Inc. produces employees who are extremely motivated and who work
affirmed at their job. However, managers within the organisation like Steve Jobs also worked
hard for motivation of his employees in order to establish the situation when all employees feel
inspired to work hard. Apple offers extrinsic and intrinsic rewards for the people on the basis of
their performance, which helps in fulfilling and achieving objectives of organisation (Hill et al.,

Apple suggests reinforcement theory of motivation since it is based on the external environment
and the situation it holds is basically for the individual. The organisation relates to positive
strengthening strategy that enhances the occurrence of preferred performance by satisfying

Theories Of Asset Pricing Behaviour
Introduction The Efficient Markets theory has been a source of much controversy within both the
academic and financial worlds. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where,
given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values
(1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama
then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible
to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and
therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is
meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are
inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies
represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying
asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies:
Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these
effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it
is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the
spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was
proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings

Casablanca Essay
Casablanca: An Unconventional Romance
In Casablanca, the prominent themes of unhappy love and self sacrifice set this romantic
melodrama apart from most in its genre. These themes are best expressed in the interactions of the
three main characters: Victor Laszlo, a heroic political leader; Ilsa Lund, an enigmaticfemme fatale;
and Richard (Rick) Blaine, a seemingly morally ambiguous night club owner. An unusual love
triangle forms with the two men s mutual love for the intermediary woman. Unlike the archetypal
romantic triangle which includes the betrayed husband and the victorious lover, this situation
results in unhappiness and loss for all involved. All three are willing to sacrifice for this love, ...

Ilsa is one of the most enigmatic figures in this story. She is torn between her passionate love for
Rick and her vows of marriage to Victor. She is deluded by her confusing feelings for her
husband, ..she looked up to him, worshipped him, with a feeling she supposed was love. He
opened up for her a whole beautiful world full of knowledge and thoughts and ideals. She loves
him as a heroic father figure. Her inescapable love for Rick causes her to completely surrender
her will to his judgment. She offers to willingly sacrifice herself to him in a loving, but adulterous
relationship. Her shameful decision violates her high ideals, honor, and sacred vows of marriage.
In the end, although Rick s decision brings her great unhappiness, and severs her from the man she
passionately loves, she yields to it and accompanies her husband back into their unfulfilling
relationship.
Rick is the morally ambiguous night club owner, who hides a sentimentality behind a neutral facade.
Rick struggles with his feelings of love for Ilsa and his loyalty and admiration for Victor and his
cause. Rick recognizes how important Victor s work is to the world, and sees that Ilsa is a
necessary part of this mission. Rick admires Victor s selfless devotion to Ilsa, and knows that he
(Victor) is the better man. He tells Ilsa, ...inside of us we both know you belong with Victor.

Massive reefs, the size of greyhound buses, are innumerous surrounding the island. Ocean
currents pulled us as we dove, giving us a scenic tour of the underwater landscapes. But it s not
solely the awesome view of Cozumel that holds a significance to me, It s the experiences i ve
had on the island. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy,
during winter break last year, we decided to spend an entire week in Cozumel doing the Ultimate
Diver Experience as branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I
really bonded there and I think that s definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove
twice a day, every day, and it was spectacular. Though my dad and I have always been close, it
was different for me to see him in a relaxed state, as he s usually busy doing 1000 things at once
back at home. Through that trip we really got closer and got to share such an amazing
experience together. The trip we took wasn t just to get away from the world for a while, it was
also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of my actual birthday was one that I ll always
remember. We decided to take a taxi into town away from the quiet of the resort we were staying
at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled around the city looking for a good place
to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the locals recommended and propped up
our feet to watch the game, the Cowboys were playing! We ordered what i m convinced were the
best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have downed the traditional 18th
birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But from there the night
was not over! My dad had planned something really special. We packed up and headed back to the
resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. I ve always wanted to do one and it
really was incredible. You dive off the both into a pitch

2.3 Monitor and report potential health and safety risks.
As a shift leader I monitor and report any health and safety risks whilst at work. For example I
monitor when in their flats i.e. when moving around, preparing food, to ensure their safety. I also
report to the house manager or manager any type of potential health and safety risks for example; I
recently brought to the manager s attention that a ceiling hoist support pole was out of alignment,
and that it would need rectifying before it could be used again.
2.4 Use risk assessment in relation to health and safety.
Risk assessments are used to identify potential harm to an individual or persons. This identifies
the possibility of a hazards and helps to reduce the possibility of harm, they are put in place to
safeguard individuals. Risk assessments are reviewed and can be added to or changed if necessary
2.5 Demonstrate ways to minimise potential risks and hazards.
Communication and observations, when arriving on shift I will ask if there are any new or recent
adjustments to any risk assessments in place. While on shift I follow policies and procedures and
ensure that others are also aware of their roles and responsibilities regarding health and safety
issues.
2.6 Access additional support or information relating to health and safety.
There are many ways that I can access additional support or information

Understanding Moral Relativism
Hi Class, Ravi Zacharias discuss all truth is relative. He explains, that if you are uncertain about
something, then measure yourself by stability. Dr. Craig provides the example of the student
who writes a paper on moral relativism and receives an F. Then, he argued it was not fair,
learning a valuable lesson. I believe both videos are helpful for understanding moral relativism. I
believe moral relativism is understood based on how the person lives their life and how it reacts
to others. Moral relativism is not based on any morals, but what the person s belief based on their
feelings and even their culture can affect their lives. For instance, a person might believe murdering
is wrong, but if the cultures determined is right? For example,

Sleep Restoration Theory
Nathan Skemp Rawl 12:20 4/21/17 The Function of Sleep Almost every known animal on planet
Earth spends a large portion of its life asleep. Humans who sleep an average of eight hours a night
spend about one third of their lifetime in this unconscious state of mind (Schenck). By logical
reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life
participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the
purpose of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around
the restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the
dreaming theory. Recent research suggests the combination of two theories to accurately represent
the purpose of sleep, the restorative theory and the brain plasticity theory. These theories claim that
quality sleep promotes restoration processes within the body and brain, as well as the physical

Therefore, the brain plasticity theory was created and so widely accepted by experts within
psychology and other respectable related fields of science. However, there are other functions that
occur during sleep that aren t fully explained by the brain plasticity theory, purposes that become
highlighted by the restoration theory. The restoration theory of sleep claims that sleeping is
essential for revitalizing and restoring the physiological processes that keep the body and mind
healthy and properly functioning (Foster). This theory suggests that REM sleep is what allows the
brain and body to heal itself from damaged tissues, diseases, and toxins that may accumulate in the
brain or body during the day. This theory splits the brain into two functions, awake and alert or

Every philosopher begins with the premises from which he bases his entire philosophical theory.
Descartes rejects all the premises and holds innate into question. He withholds all the assumptions
and only believes in things that can be proven. His goal in subjecting everything to methodical
doubt is you don t know it is true until you have the proof. Descartes begins by doubting his own
existence and starts with the premise, I think I am therefore I am . He is not sure whether he exists

Simple ideas are copy of a single direct experience/ impression for example, idea of Mount
Everest. Complex ideas are combination of two or more copies of impressions/ experiences for
example, idea of a golden mountain. You have an idea of gold color and you have an idea about
mountain thus even though nobody has seen a golden mountain but you can have idea about a
golden mountain. According to Hume, you only know what your experience will allow you to
know. You cannot know more than what you can experience; knowledge is dependent and
derivative of experience. He says God is complex idea we don t have any proof about God s
existence or inexistence. This point of view of David Hume is completely different to Descartes
who believes in God s existence. According to David Hume, if we have idea of infinity that means
we must have impression of infinite but we cannot touch or feel infinity thus infinity is not a
simple idea. In order for infinity to be complex idea but we don t have anything that is infinite so
according to Hume, concept of infinity doesn t exist. It is just pseudo idea that we have given name
which has no relation to anything actual.
David Hume makes another distinction regarding object of cognition, anything that is thought
about. All the object of human reason or inquiry may naturally be divided into two kinds, relation
of ideas and matters of fact. David Hume uses the term Matters of fact is the kind of thing

Fahrenheit 451 Book Report Essay
Fahrenheit 451 could not of had a better plot. Not only was the novel thrilling the entire time but
taught us knowledge over ignorance. I think that Fahrenheit 451 was a great book. The plot of
story is Guy Montag starts out as a average fireman who loves doing his job, which is burning
books. He s married and lives a normal lifestyle in an unspecified city in a society where reading
is illegal, and being intellectual is frowned upon. That would be the exposition of the story. On
his way home from work one day, he meets a curious lady named Clarisse, who tells that she
loves reading and nature. Clarisse gave Montag a desire to change society s way of thinking for
the better, and eventually the curiosity spreads to Montag and he begins to steal books. This
would be the rising action. At this moment he questions the ethics of the society he lives in. That
would be the main conflict. His wife and boss eventually find out what he s doing, so firemen
stop in front of the salamanders own house, raid his home, finding and burning down all the
books. Montag kills Beatty with a flamethrower. This would be the climax. Knowing something
like this would happen, Montag flees for his life. Montag follows the directions given to him by
Faber and finds a band of men devoted to the same cause preserving the truth of book. In the end,
Montag is rescued by a community of people, each of whom introduces himself as the title of a
book they ve memorized. That would be the denouement.

The Movement Of The Nazis
This passage clearly exemplified the mindset of many, as the hope they had had for a more
optimistic future was once again crushed under another regime. This was continuously a
problem under occupations of Kiev, government power made promises that were no longer able
to withhold and as a result of this, the would then be forced to endure horrible acts played out
against them and face poor treatment. With the realization that Nazi intentions were not what
they had presented as, many Ukrainians began to support the Soviets yet again in search of
freedom from being under the rule of the Nazis. An example of this explored in Kuznetsov s
novel while discussing the movement of Ukrainians to Germany to work on farms. Ukrainians
were persistently encouraged to migrate to work on German farms, which as actually driving
Ukrainians into slavery. Originally promised freedom and pay, upon their arrival in Germany
Ukrainians were sold off as slaves as described in the following quote: They had been taken to a

looking at their teeth, feeling their muscles, and buying them up at the rate of five or twenty
marks a man. They had to work on the farms from dawn to dusk, were beaten for the slightest

discretion to asses a warning citation in light of a teenager observed to by the officer breaking

The act could by some be that the officer chose a utilitarian stance. The officer at the time was
engaged in removing the angry protestor from the event to allow the event to continue. That
was in fact a part of his duties to maintain order consider the safety of the candidate as it was his
event. The officer may have felt that to engage the individual that threw the elbow would have
allowed the protestor to escape and possibly cause harm to himself or the individual guilty of the
assault. Or perhaps the officer simply felt that the situation best be handled at a later date. All or
none of these considerations could have passed through the officer s mind because he certainly
was aware of the multiple television cameras as well as the cell phone cameras that were in and
around the event. I don t know whether the officer made a good decision I do know there was no
riot and not addition harm to either individual and there was an arrest made after the event and
the guy admitting the assault on camera as well as hinting the possibility for murder. The answer

How important was the Second Reform Act (1867) in...
How important was the Second Reform Act (1867) in Disraeli s emergence as Conservatives
leader? This question focuses on the importance of the Second Reform Act in Disraeli s rise to
the top of the Conservative Party and his emergence as the leader. In order to decide on the
relative importance of the Send Reform Act, I will also consider other factors, which impacted
on Disraeli s emergence, including the 1846 split of the Conservative party and the death of
George Bentinck, Derby s ineffective leadership, Palmerston s death in 1865 and Disraeli s
determination and political skill. The split of the Conservative in 1846 due to the repeal of the
Corn Laws and the following death of Bentinck were important factors in allowing Disraeli... Show

He managed to make this Bill seem radical enough to satisfy the Radicals and other pressure
groups, while allowing some amendments, which appeased the Liberals. This was crucial o
passing the bill since the Conservatives were in a minority. Whilst boosting Disraeli s reputation
and showcasing his political skill, the Second Reform Act also brought Disraeli popularity
among his own MP s. This links to Derby s leadership, because it was after this Act that Derby
recommended Disraeli to Queen Victoria as his successor. Therefore, it was Disraeli s
determination and political skill that passed an act which led to his leadership of the
Conservative Party. There is no doubt that Disraeli possessed a huge amount of political skill
and having assessed all of the factors, I think that this was the most important factor in
explaining his emergence as Conservative leader. Despite his disastrous maiden speech,
Disraeli was a fantastic orator, and this skill was paramount in attacking Peel over the repeal of
the Corn Laws and in cementing his leadership. His determination was proven when he showed
his competence and sound grasp of financial matters in his Budgets of 1858 and 1866,
overcoming his heavy defeat with his 1952 Budget. Disraeli showed his political skill and insight
in recognizing the need for the Party to adopt a more progressive and pro Reform approach, and
he worked hard to convince the backbench members of his party to drop

The Language Came Into My Life
Oct23, 2015:
The Language Came into My Life is an autobiography of the Hellen Keller a woman who lost her
hearing ability and vision when she was an 18 months old baby. The loss of the two very
important senses pushed her into a very critical situation where she had a very limited interaction
and understanding of the world. She had a very small world based on her own perception, where
she had her parents, siblings and some other things, but she was unable to have a name for the
things she could experience. She was unable to get an introduction to the world when she was seven
and her teacher Anne Sullivan came into her life.
Before her introduction to the language, she was bitter, angry and stressed all the time as she said

The main idea of the story is that the language has a great importance in a person s life, whether a
normal person or the one who has lost one or some vital senses. Before the arrival of Anne
Sullivan in the life of Helen Keller, her mood was dark all the time because she was unable to
communicate to her surrounding world. The story is also showing that learning a language for a
deaf and blind person is equally important because in this way they can feel and see the world.
Language unveiled a new world to her where she had an opportunity to learn something new which
ultimately improved her mood, and changed her thoughts about life. For the first time she realized
that everything had a name, and each name give birth to a new thought (Eschholz, Alfred, Clark,
2013)
Helen spent most of her time in learning new things and in the exploration of the world. The
way she spelled doll after getting a doll from her teacher and the way she spelled water when
cold water flowed on her hand was really heart touching. I knew then that w a t e r meant the
wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. (Helen, Keller, 2013, p. 74). Helen
used the power of touch to expand her world and realized that everything in her surroundings has a

Different Kinds Of Pollution

What are the different kinds of pollution? There are so many different kinds of pollution like; air
pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution,
and light pollution, but the most common two we hear about is water pollution, and air pollution
those are the ones we have to figure out how to fix the most because they are causing the most
danger and problems for us. There are a lot of different kinds of pollution, some that most people
probably don t even know exist. Every kind of pollution has an impact on us, the environment and
the animals surrounding us, everyone individually should do what they can to reduce their
pollution habits. Air pollution is when harmful chemicals are put into the air. Most of the air
pollution in the usa is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as; coal, oil, natural gas, and
gasoline. Why do we continue to burn these knowing what it does to the environment? We continue
to burn these harmful chemicals because they bring us electricity and they power our vehicles. To
reduce air pollution we can do a few different kinds of things. We can conserve energy, meaning
remember to turn off lights and other devices when not in use. Use energy efficient light bulbs and
other appliances. Limit driving by carpooling, public transportation, biking, or walking, and Choose
environmentally friendly cleaners only. Water pollutionis when harmful

Robert Irwin s Excerpt From Islamic Art
In Robert Irwin s excerpt from Islamic Art in Context, Irwin outlines why he believes that the
Muslims of this medieval era in Islamic art would have looked at many of the arts, such as
painting, sculpture, and the decorative arts, with distaste. He clarifies what Muslims at the time
believed about the depiction of living things, how that belief evolved, and why; claiming that
the issue of the non representational nature of Islamic art is not as clear cut as people often
assume. As for how this excerpt compares to what was shown in the lectures, there is a similar
lack of living creatures that are depicted in the art. Irwin looks more closely at the line between
what is a depiction of a living creature, however, which was not specifically covered in the class
lectures about Islamic art. The defining line between what is acceptable and what is not in
Islamic art is very blurry, and Irwin explains some of the grey area citing both the Koran and
hadiths, as interpreted by various religious scholars, as well as some other writers that were
known at the time. He starts by citing the Koran, which is a sacred Islamic book written by the
Prophet Muhammed, in where the translation is disputed; it could mean that you are to avoid
paintings, as they are Satan s work, or it could mean to avoid idols, which in context most likely
refers to pagan idols, which he shows an example of a Persian miniature that shows the destroying
of an idol. Hadiths were also used to help illustrate his

The Role Of Judgment In The Film Primal Fear
As I am going to use my skills of Critical Thinking and Errors of Judgment in the movie called
Primal Fear by William Diehl to write a paper. Critical term is to describe forms of learning,
thought, and analysis that go beyond the memorization and recall of information and facts. (http:/
/edglossary.org/critical thinking/). For instance, it is very important for students to analyze
situations, to solve problems, and to make good decisions. An Error of Judgment occur in the
process of sorting out and assessing evidence. For an example, to make decisions. These are the
two important skills I will be using throughout the paper/movie.
This movie exercises the principal of critical thinking when attorney Martin Vail takes on the case
of an alter boy who got accused of brutally murdering murdering the Archbishop of Chicago. Vail...

factor. Which includes when Aaron transforms into a new person, Roy and when Vail finds a
pornographic videotape at Archbishop s apartment of Aaron with his girlfriend, Linda and another
alter boy that Archbishop was filming. This was so profound in the movie because it made Aaron
/Roy look more poor/good guy who needs help/treatments with his conditions. In addition,
Archbishop was bad guy for what he did to Aaron, Linda, and an another alter boy, but everyone
else knew him as a good Archbishop who would never do such things.
No one used critical thinking in this movie, but Vail did separated facts from opinions. Also, he
avoided the errors of logic in this film. If he would ve used the Critical Thinking qualities, then he
would ve looked for the evidence and not just jumped into the conclusion. The qualities he could ve
used are look for unstated assumptions, distinguish between ideas and information, and recognize
decisions. He should ve used these qualities to decide what was right and what was wrong. Also,
this would have helped him to understand the

Main Outline And Argument
Summarization of Main Outline/Argument:
Ellen G White is very clear on her view regarding divorce. She s radically against divorce.
However there is some case when the innocent party can ask for divorce or decide to stay with the
guilty person. I found several arguments regarding divorce on her writing.
вћўMarriage is the contract of life; therefore, spouse has no right to ask for divorce.
вћўWe must view divorce according to God s law.
вћўAdultery is the only ground for divorce.
вћўThe innocent party can decide to stay or marry someone else.
вћўDivorce brings suffering between husband and wife.
вћўIn case of abuse, you can separate with the person but not legally divorce.
вћўThe wife has no right to divorce her unbeliever husband.
вћўScripture don t give enough room for divorce.
Research Conclusion:
My research question was: When it s appropriate for a spouse to ask for divorce? This question
comes in my mind because when I was a Pastor in the Southern Conference in Haiti there is one
of my colleagues get divorce with his wife without the ground of adultery. The wife is the one
who ask for divorce because she said she didn t see herself as a pastor s wife and want to live her
life without any restriction. The executive committee knew about this issue and they decided to
layoff the Pastor, even he has nothing to do regarding this divorce. Since that day, I was curious to
learn about Divorce in Ellen G, White writings. In my research, I found out that Ellen G white is

In 1905, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Rev. L. L. Downing, erected

Let us Cross the River and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well

Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues
such as child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader
that arrived at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old
Dominion, Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and
educational salvation. Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such
themes, however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has
been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He
stated:
The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the
Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern
Church was unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the
Southern Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken
over by the liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the
educational agencies of the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature.

Honoring The Knights Of The Round Table
The word honor and its meaning, hasn t changed much from the medieval times to the present
day. In the medieval times, honor wasn t just a word, but it was a way of life for the knights like
King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Honor was a just one of multiple building
blocks that King Arthur and his knights followed. The word is something that keeps the knight
s humanity intact, but some cases honor can be defined as people become divided depending on
their social states. Within the knights, they are usually held at a higher standard than others. In
the country of Brazil, honor has the same meaning from the medieval times in regards to
respecting others. It is also shown that in Brazil, the community attempts to divide the upper
class families who are considered honorable from the lower class families (Wiki). In the last
week, a tragedy accident happened to a Brazil soccer team who were seeking a Cinderella
ending. With this past tragedy, honor has been show to the team of Chapecoense and the country
of Brazil. The same can be said about the passing of King Arthur and how honor was shown for
someone of importance passing. I have learned a lot of interesting facts that I didn t know about
the medieval times, especially the era of King Arthur. Honor in the era of Arthur is essentially the
same as it is in today s generation. The only difference is that the knights had a code that they were
supposed to follow to be a knight with chivalry. Chivalry was the

One of the distinguishing features of cystic fibrosis is the thick mucus that lines both the airways
and the intestinal tract of affected individuals. In the respiratory tract, this thick mucus is not
removed by the cilia that usually beat and push mucus up into the throat. This thick mucus builds

The Flintstones Gender Stereotypes
Although animated cartoons have long been associated with children s entertainment, many
cartoons suggest they are for adults as well. Ranging from character portrayal to perceived gender
roles, cartoons such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Scooby Doo both reflect societal values
from their time periods as well as perpetuate the developed stereotypes. Comparing the earliest
popular cartoons to more recent productions, shows progress towards a less stereotypical character
portrayal in regards to gender. In North American culture, watching televisionis as much part of
regular life as eating supper. In an age so heavily dependent on technology, newer additions such as
Netflix enable society s massive consumption. In a New York Daily... Show more content on

Daphne is very thin, pale, has long hair, and delicate features. She is always seen in a pink and
purple dress with high heels. As for her position in the cartoon, she is relatively useless to the actual
plot, and instead is there to look pretty and act as a love interest for Fred. Velma, on the other
hand, is of a stockier build, has short hair, and wears thick rimmed glasses. She is seen in a red
and yellow dress with knee socks. Unlike Daphne, Velma has a useful role in the storyline
because of her immense knowledge. Despite having a superior personality, Velma is rarely ever
portrayed as desirable to any man, and is often mocked by other characters for the way she looks
and for her intelligence. Similarly to the female characters, Fred and Shaggy are portrayed as
contrasting characters. Fred is the embodiment of hegemonic masculinity. He is tall, muscular,
popular, brave, and athletic. To contrast this, there is Shaggy who is also tall, but skinny, unkempt,
lazy, and cowardly. Fred s role in the story is to be the group s leader, come up with plans, and be
popular with he female characters. Shaggy, in contrast, is the comedic relief. The representation of
these characters enforces stereotypical opinions on how one should perform their

Allusion Of War In The Butter Battle Book
The Butter Battle Book by Dr.Seuss is a deceptively childish book about a war over what side
one should butter their bread. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold
War will immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with
Dr.Seuss s message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies
what he believes about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his
beliefs about how silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors.
Books like Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop are light hearted, funny, and sometimes
completely weird. The Butter Battle Bookis about two different communities torn apart by one...

During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring
out the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice
little man. Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear
sense of irony. In this line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would,
calmly drop a bomb on the enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the
actual calamity dropping a bomb would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has
the same meaning overall, That was a pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo
has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this, the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a
failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in the book because if he attacked the Zooks his
people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was success in some ways. This irony does the
same as the first, forces the reader to think about the consequences of attacking with retaliation. All
in all Dr.Seuss makes great use of irony to make any reader think about the cause and effects not
only in the book but during the Cold War as

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay
When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and
something or something gets chosen.
* Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which
a story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is
during the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first
paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the
reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this
day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the
story.
Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The
mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery
is just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of
doing the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are
in a content mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important
part of their lives. The type of event that the lottery seems to be is a gathering where they chose to
kill one person by stoning them to death.
The possible reason why the people hesitated to help Mr. summers with the box is that they don t

How Did The Mayans Build Number System
Next to speaking, counting is the greatest achievement created by man. The question of who is
responsible for creating counting and numbers is still unknown today. Historians and researchers
have difficulty pinpointing who should be credited for the creation. Professor Jean de Heinzelin
discovered the earliest proof of counting in the 1950s. During his excavation in a village called
Ishango, located in the Congo, he discovered a bone with lines and patterns carved into it.
Researchers dubbed the finding the Ishango Bone. An article by D. Huylebrouck says that the bone
is about 11,000 years old and was possibly used as a sort of calendar (Huylebrouck). Unfortunately,
not much else is known about it, but historians know much more about later... Show more content

Indian scholars created the Hindu Arabic system around 800 B.C (Carasco). This system grouped
by ten using numbers 0 9. It also used place value. For example in the number 2345, the 2 is in the
thousands place, the 3 is in the hundreds place, the 4 is in the hundreds place, while the 5 is in the
units place. One must read from right to left, to say the word aloud. This is what is currently used
universally. Unlike the other systems previously discussed, this one uses a base 10. Many question
as to why this system uses a base 10. The answer is simply the fact the humans only have ten fingers
to count with, which makes it easy to count and keep track of. Some also wonder how this
numeration system was able to reach so many countries. As one will see the spreading of the system
was like a domino effect. The Handy Math Answer Book explains that the Arabs were among the
first to adopt this counting arrangement from the Indians. India was able to pass on this counting
system through the trade routes of Northern Africa, which caught the attention of Arabs inhabiting
this area ( (Barnes Svarney and Svarney ). Mathematicians, who learned about this new number
system from the Arabs, began publish books that wrote about this easy to use system. The final
turning point occurred during the 16th century. Europeans merchants began to use and spread this
counting system during their trade transactions. Soon other countries

Innovation Vs Traditionalism
I am sure that we have all, at one time or another, noticed that almost any discussion concerning the
merits and demerits of art, if it goes on long enough will come to the qualities of innovation and
traditionalism in regards to aesthetic value. As soon as these two qualities are mentioned, there
comes an inevitable forming up of those who favor innovationand deride tradition and those who
favor tradition and deride innovation. Either side usually admits only enough meritto their
opposition, and limitation of their own view, to make themselves seem reasonable and objective:
but the bulk of their effort goes into savaging their opponentsand extolling the ultimately ascendant
nature of their position. I am inclined to take neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many people, the most damning denunciation they can make of a work of art is that it is, in
some way, stale, antiquated, or outmoded. They will note how this feature has been borrowed,
how that aspect has been done before, and how the entire work lacks freshness, originality, and
creativeness. These sorts of people are not necessarily wrong for saying such things, but they
are wrong for leaving their criticism at that, for it is simply not enough. What is implied in
many of these people s demands for freshness, originality and so on, though they would never
say it explicitly, is a fascination with novelty. A few, if cornered, might defend a taste for
novelty by saying that something, because it is novel, takes their aesthetic experience beyond
where it had been before, and thereby expands their understanding of art and themselves. There
is a grain of truth in this, but a second explanation seems more likely, and far more damning. If
someone displays a taste for art which is novel, it indicates that art which preceded the novelty
possessed only a passing transient value, and art which now seems novel will also, most likely, be
passing and transient, for its only real attraction to this sort of person is that it is new, and, as we
have seen, this will soon pass. However, many of us are inclined to believe that aesthetic values are
something eternal,

Wayne Grudem s Business For The Glory Of God
Like any great researcher, Wayne Grudem began his work in Business for the Glory of God with a
question: Is business basically good or evil? With the influence of colleagues, mentors and students,
Grudem began on a journey to find the answer to the question that has haunted believers for ages
through research and the Bible as his ultimate guide. The conclusion he came to and the claim he
would make proved simple, yet profound: ...many aspects of businessactivity are morally good in
themselves, and that in themselves they bring glory to God though they also have great potential
for misuse and wrongdoing (Grudem 12). With this thesis as a metronome setting the pace for the

really is glorifying to God by design. We don t have to try to justify these actions because they are

How Is Ancient Egypt Different From Our Culture
Did you know that the Egyptians kids were naked untill they were six years old? If you are six
years old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The
Egyptians had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some
examples that were different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men
in working classes wore either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore
straight dresses with one or two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and
by pharaohs. At times Kings and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers.
Another example is the jewelry. Specific materials, colours, and designs were often associated with
certain gods or goddesses or magical qualities of protection. Any changes to these could affect the
spiritual value of the items. Everyone wore jewelry in Ancient Egypt, from poor farmers to wethly
royals. For the wealthy, pieces were made from semi precious ... Show more content on

Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own
hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed
mirrors, hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient
Egyptians wore greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped
perfume on their wigs. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green
paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was
supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a
green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green
paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this
reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore

His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity
Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure revolves
around images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often appears as an object to
be looked at and acted upon, while the male protagonist is usually granted a more active role, both
in terms of his agency in the narrative, and in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is
backed up by elements of two films studied this semester: His Girl Fridayby Howard Hawks (1940)
and Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the
main femalecharacters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have over the females,
and the way that the womans image is used to draw attention to specific aspects of the plot. In both
of these movies, the females take a subordinate and supporting role to the male figures. First, in
His Girl Friday, Hildy is a newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. In the
1940s, it was customary for women to serve their men at home, and Hildy extended that with her
husband to the work place. Every reporter has to answer to the editor, so Walter was Hildy s boss
at home and at work. The movie opens up, and Hildy is returning from a long vacation after the
divorce. She returns to Walter Burns, to inform him that she is now engaged. During that
conversation, we see a glimpse of how their relationship worked. While Hildy is trying to tell
Walter about Bruce, her

In reality of the modern era, there are many fast food outlets worldwide and continues being a

worldwide debate for many years now as there have been campaigns and boycotts against several
fast foodrestaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King and KFC. This essay will go more into
detail about how fast food is one of the main contributors to obesity, people pushing the blame to

Also, fast food is readily available everywhere, and whenever you want regardless of time and

neighbourhoods have disproportionately higher concentrations of fast food outlets. These
industries are successful because they offer consumers a quick, more affordable, convenient and
tasty meal that is mostly high in fat and salt content and low in fiber and calcium (The Heart

such as having a limited menu, minimal service, and inexpensive food served quickly to
customers. Sales are expected to rise as fast food restaurants meet the needs of current consumers
which are convenience, being inexpensive, and having meals served quick. Trends toward longer

Pros And Cons Of Violent Video Games
Position/Argumentative Essay Should teens be able to buy violent video games? No, teens should
not be able to purchase video games that contain violent content. Violent video games in a person s
early years could result in much, much worse things later on in life. Studies show that violent video
games could result in bullying, criminal activity, or in worse cases, suicide. Games that withhold
violent scenes can result in bullying. Children will see what they are doing in their game, and think
that it would be acceptable to do that type of thing in the real world. They may not be going as far
as shooting someone, but they can turn that violence into a smaller aspect of hitting or kicking one

seventeen played some types of video game, and that two thirds of them played action and
adventure games that tend to contain violent or vulgar content. A separate analysis found that more
than half of all video games rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board contained violence,
including more than ninety percent of those rated as appropriate for children ten years or older.
Given how common these games are, it is a small wonder that mental health clinicians often find
themselves fielding questions from parents who are worried about the immense impact of violent
video games on their children. , says the Harvard Mental Health Letter (Violent Video Games and

Strategic Investment Decisions Involving Valuable Business...
Valuation Questions
Question 1:
A strategic option is a valuation approach applied by firms when making strategic investment
decisions involving valuable business opportunities. The approach is premised on the idea of
remedying the shortcomings of DCF analysis model. This approach allows firms to value
investment opportunities by ascertaining on future value benefits that a specific project would
bring to firm, rather than looking at cash flow. Strategic options enable the management to
formulate strategic decisions to inform on future opportunities that would be created through today
s investments. Possible future operations are valued using strategic options, as no cash flow is
analyzed, but rather analysis of opportunity for investing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus, during valuation the firm must undertake strategic mapping on these elements to select real
investment project.
However, strategic option is subject to abuse particularly due to absence of any formal valuation
procedures. This means that strategic option can be highly politicized by the management. In
practice, this valuation approach is myopic and may lead firms to undervaluing the future, and thus,
to under invest by deferring viable investment projects. Also, at times managers may use strategic
options by inputting informal procedures or personal bias by deliberately championing or
defending certain investment opportunities causing overinvestment.
Question 2:
Adjusted Present Value (APV) approach is an income based valuation method employed as a
variant to DCF tool, but does not use any WACC calculation. By using APV method, one can
ascertain enterprise value by separating out as well as accounting for tax attributes of debts
/borrowing and inherent incremental bankruptcy risk associated with additional debt. During
valuation, the APV approach measures a firm s enterprise value (EV) as the value of a company
devoid of debt ( unlevered enterprise), plus prevent value of tax savings from company s debt.
Specifically, APV valuation estimates unleveraged cost of equity most often using CAPM
approach, expected cash flow of an

The Characteristics Of Artificial Intelligence
One must truly understand what artificial intelligence is in order to assess its usefulness in society.
In the article Artificial Intelligence by Paul Norvig, it states The field of artificial intelligence (AI)
is the science and engineering of machines that act intelligently. (Herzfeld 509). So, what does
Norvig mean when these machines act intelligently? This means that Artificial Intelligencemimics
human intelligence as if it had its own consciousness. Consider this, whenever you perform a
task, for example, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, programmers who
design these Artificial Intelligent machines go through the logical process we do as humans.
So, if someone had a red cube and was looking for its container, one would go through a logical
chronological process. First, one would define the color of the object, red. Then, one would find
out what type of object he or she is holding, cube. Finally, in order to complete the task, sorting
colored objects into their matching containers, one would identify the container that was for red
cubes. This is an example of the logical process regarding Artificial Intelligence. Artificial
Intelligence is difficult to define. There are so many areas in which intelligent machines could
benefit life, a single definition wouldn t fully encompass its capabilities. Noreen L. Herzfeld,
Professor of Theology and Computer Science at College of Saint Benedict, provides an interesting
perspective on what Artificial

The Scientific revolution and The Enlightenment period overlapped by a hundred years and were

One of his oppositions was Thomas Hobbes who argued that people needed authoritarian rule and

Visual arts took on the rococo style during the Enlightenment period. Gardens of the rococo type
(which were popular amongst the leisured elite) imitated those of Chinese gardens of the far east.
Rose and pastel colors were popular throughout the era in paintings and decorations. Jean Honore
Fragonard was considered to be the highlight of all rococo artists, he created flirtatious and highly

amazing pieces of work such as the Arch of Triumph in Paris (at the end of the period). Leonardo s
contribution reflects an excellent example of art and how it was affected by the scientific

was recognized as an extraordinary artist already from the Renaissance. When scholars turned to his

invested heavily in the notion of scientific naturalism , which was partially supported by the
artist s professed emphasis on direct observation. Such a focus relegated to the background

Agatha Christie was a writer of all genres but her most influential and remembered book was a

  • 2. Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the individuals. Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that genderroles and gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However, what is most interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner by which certain aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even reversed. Based on these observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the ways in which the social construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was stated in the introduction, some of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the ways in which socially constructed gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the interaction between two small children, a girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located in the center of the park. The young boy can be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors that include but are not limited to pushing and shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast, the young girl behaves in a much more submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by giggling, smiling and squealing. This example provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rao in NIT surat. It is an evolutionary optimization algorithm that inspired from teaching learning phenomenon of a classroom. It is a novel population based algorithm with faster convergence speed without any algorithm specific parameters. In TLBO each potential problem is treated as a learner with certain knowledge. The TLBO consist of two phases Teacher phase and Learner phase, in both phases learner improves their knowledge from teacher (in teacher phase) and also from classmates (in learner phase). In section 3.2 Teacher learning based optimization is described, Section 3.3 discusses the Teacher learning based optimization, Section 3.4 describes the flow of Teacher learning based optimization with the help of Flow Chart and finally section 3.5 concluded the chapter. 3.2 Teaching Learning Based Optimization ... The plant is then eaten by herbivores and omnivores such as hedgehogs, rabbits and sometimes mice, which in turn, are then eaten by native Moreporks and feral cats and dogs. Then it finishes off with humans. There are also some extra animals that are on the following diagram. Question 2: What negative and positive effects do this pest have on our environment? As a fast seed producer, it ruins native animal s habitats and also invades plant communities; therefore, the plant species have a negative impact on the environment. Also has the cause of building up sand and changes the habitats, and eventually grows on rocks. Because of African Feather grass, there has been a loss dune lakes, wetlands and has a major impact on agriculture. On the plus side, it is also a fire hazard to rats and mice, which I think is also another way to get rid of rats and mice. Overall, this pest mostly has a negative impact on the environment. Don t attempt to control it when a mature seed is present as this makes the bigger chance of the risk of the seeds being spread by clothing, animals and so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What to Do After Graduation in Major in Success by Patrick... There is a majority of university students worldwide who have something in common: they have no idea what they will do after they graduate. Some students may have several ideas came out, but they never make them come true. There are plenty of people who have difficulty to know what they are passionate in, and even they can do but most never have the extraordinary drive necessary to go for their dreams. At this difficult time, there is a book walked to me, Major in Success written by Patrick Combs, which is a book that is to help people find their true dream job and become successful, and also it helped me find the true purpose of studying in university. This book pointed out that doing what you enjoy propels you to success . It means doing what you enjoy is the core to find your dream job. If one has a job that pays well but he never get happiness from it, and instead of fears, tears and no cheers. He also brings their fears from work to their lives and families and makes these people who are outside of his job feel sad and then, that will destroy a big and happy environment. This book tells people how to make their dreams come true. People who follow their dreams are the meaning of living in the world and the way to get happiness. And everyone has this ability to achieve this goal; what they need to do is only to possess extraordinary drive. From the book, the author says repeatedly that when people get graduated, no one cares about your GPA. Patrick Combs said that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Theories Of Asset Pricing Behaviour Introduction The Efficient Markets theory has been a source of much controversy within both the academic and financial worlds. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where, given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values (1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies: Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These themes are best expressed in the interactions of the three main characters: Victor Laszlo, a heroic political leader; Ilsa Lund, an enigmaticfemme fatale; and Richard (Rick) Blaine, a seemingly morally ambiguous night club owner. An unusual love triangle forms with the two men s mutual love for the intermediary woman. The small island is only 30 miles long, but is home to some of the most beautiful flora, fauna, scenic landscapes, and beaches on the planet. Cozumel is a favorite tourist destination, but more specifically a favorite within the SCUBA divingcommunity. Cozumelis famed for its vibrant reefs and long stretching drift dives. Drift diving consists of divers entering the water at one location and being pulled by underwater currents many miles from their original location. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy, during winter break last year, we decided to spend an entire week in Cozumel doing the Ultimate Diver Experience as branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I really bonded there and I think that s definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove twice a day, every day, and it was spectacular. Though my dad and I have always been close, it was different for me to see him in a relaxed state, as he s usually busy doing 1000 things at once back at home. Through that trip we really got closer and got to share such an amazing experience together. The trip we took wasn t just to get away from the world for a while, it was also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of my actual birthday was one that I ll always remember. We decided to take a taxi into town away from the quiet of the resort we were staying at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled around the city looking for a good place to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the locals recommended and propped up our feet to watch the game, the Cowboys were playing! We ordered what i m convinced were the best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have downed the traditional 18th birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But from there the night was not over! My dad had planned something really special. We packed up and headed back to the resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. • 13. Sleep Restoration Theory Nathan Skemp Rawl 12:20 4/21/17 The Function of Sleep Almost every known animal on planet Earth spends a large portion of its life asleep. Humans who sleep an average of eight hours a night spend about one third of their lifetime in this unconscious state of mind (Schenck). By logical reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the purpose of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around the restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the dreaming theory. Recent research suggests the combination of two theories to accurately represent the purpose of sleep, the restorative theory and the brain plasticity theory. These theories claim that quality sleep promotes restoration processes within the body and brain, as well as the physical development and growth of the body... His goal in subjecting everything to methodical doubt is you don t know it is true until you have the proof. Descartes begins by doubting his own existence and starts with the premise, I think I am therefore I am . I think that Fahrenheit 451 was a great book. The plot of story is Guy Montag starts out as a average fireman who loves doing his job, which is burning books. He s married and lives a normal lifestyle in an unspecified city in a society where reading is illegal, and being intellectual is frowned upon. That would be the exposition of the story. On his way home from work one day, he meets a curious lady named Clarisse, who tells that she loves reading and nature. Clarisse gave Montag a desire to change society s way of thinking for the better, and eventually the curiosity spreads to Montag and he begins to steal books. This would be the rising action. At this moment he questions the ethics of the society he lives in. That would be the main conflict. His wife and boss eventually find out what he s doing, so firemen stop in front of the salamanders own house, raid his home, finding and burning down all the books. Montag kills Beatty with a flamethrower. This would be the climax. Knowing something like this would happen, Montag flees for his life. Montag follows the directions given to him by Faber and finds a band of men devoted to the same cause preserving the truth of book. In the end, Montag is rescued by a community of people, each of whom introduces himself as the title of a book they ve memorized. That would be the denouement. In order to decide on the relative importance of the Send Reform Act, I will also consider other factors, which impacted on Disraeli s emergence, including the 1846 split of the Conservative party and the death of George Bentinck, Derby s ineffective leadership, Palmerston s death in 1865 and Disraeli s determination and political skill. This links to Derby s leadership, because it was after this Act that Derby recommended Disraeli to Queen Victoria as his successor. Therefore, it was Disraeli s determination and political skill that passed an act which led to his leadership of the Conservative Party. There is no doubt that Disraeli possessed a huge amount of political skill and having assessed all of the factors, I think that this was the most important factor in explaining his emergence as Conservative leader. Despite his disastrous maiden speech, Disraeli was a fantastic orator, and this skill was paramount in attacking Peel over the repeal of the Corn Laws and in cementing his leadership. His determination was proven when he showed his competence and sound grasp of financial matters in his Budgets of 1858 and 1866, overcoming his heavy defeat with his 1952 Budget. For many people, the most damning denunciation they can make of a work of art is that it is, in some way, stale, antiquated, or outmoded. They will note how this feature has been borrowed, how that aspect has been done before, and how the entire work lacks freshness, originality, and creativeness. These sorts of people are not necessarily wrong for saying such things, but they are wrong for leaving their criticism at that, for it is simply not enough. What is implied in many of these people s demands for freshness, originality and so on, though they would never say it explicitly, is a fascination with novelty. A few, if cornered, might defend a taste for novelty by saying that something, because it is novel, takes their aesthetic experience beyond where it had been before, and thereby expands their understanding of art and themselves. There is a grain of truth in this, but a second explanation seems more likely, and far more damning. If someone displays a taste for art which is novel, it indicates that art which preceded the novelty possessed only a passing transient value, and art which now seems novel will also, most likely, be passing and transient, for its only real attraction to this sort of person is that it is new, and, as we have seen, this will soon pass. • 47. His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure revolves around images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often appears as an object to be looked at and acted upon, while the male protagonist is usually granted a more active role, both in terms of his agency in the narrative, and in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is backed up by elements of two films studied this semester: His Girl Fridayby Howard Hawks (1940) and Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the main femalecharacters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have over the females, and the way that the womans image is used to draw attention to specific aspects of the plot. In both of these movies, the females take a subordinate and supporting role to the male figures. First, in His Girl Friday, Hildy is a newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. • 51. The Characteristics Of Artificial Intelligence One must truly understand what artificial intelligence is in order to assess its usefulness in society. In the article Artificial Intelligence by Paul Norvig, it states The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is the science and engineering of machines that act intelligently. (Herzfeld 509). So, what does Norvig mean when these machines act intelligently? This means that Artificial Intelligencemimics human intelligence as if it had its own consciousness. Consider this, whenever you perform a task, for example, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, programmers who design these Artificial Intelligent machines go through the logical process we do as humans. So, if someone had a red cube and was looking for its container, one would go through a logical chronological process. First, one would define the color of the object, red. Then, one would find out what type of object he or she is holding, cube. Finally, in order to complete the task, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, one would identify the container that was for red cubes. This is an example of the logical process regarding Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is difficult to define. There are so many areas in which intelligent machines could benefit life, a single definition wouldn t fully encompass its capabilities. Noreen L.
