Ivane Javakhishvili was a Georgian writer, historian, and publisher born in 1876. He studied at universities in Petersburg and Berlin. In 1918, he helped found Georgia's first university in Tbilisi and served as its professor and head of the history department. From 1919 to 1926, Javakhishvili was the university's rector. Although forced to step down later, he remained an influential historian until his death in 1940.
