Sand casting is a cheap process that can produce many metal parts in various sizes and shapes but results in a poor finish and low tolerance. Die casting produces parts with excellent dimensional accuracy and high production rates but requires costly dies and is limited to smaller, non-ferrous metal parts like gears, camera bodies, and car wheels. Different casting processes each have advantages and disadvantages depending on the required part properties, size, material, and production quantities.
